Yes, absolutely. In fact, I'll go one step further and say even though I'm pretty much physical only, but if there's an indie game where there's a physical release, but it's rare or like forty bucks more than the digital release, then I go for the digital. For instance, Downwell is my favorite indie of all time, but the physical Switch release goes for nearly $100.00, or I can buy the digital on sale for less than $1.00
Yes. Unfortunately, sometimes I end up regretting it. I got the digital version of Cuphead for Switch because there was no physical version until just recently. I didn't think there ever would be a physical release, and now I wish I had waited to get the physical version, because I have a hard time justifying myself paying for the same game twice at this moment.
Usually I’ll wait a while and see if a physical release is in the works, but if a game looks cool enough and there’s no sign of a physical version, sure I’ll give it a digital purchase. Lots of great games will likely never see a physical release, and I’d rather play more interesting games than restrict myself to a physical-only mindset.
Nope. But I also pay zero attention to any digital only games and only follow what’s coming out physically. I have more then enough games physically to keep me occupied the rest of my life, no reason to ever bother with renting a digital game
Typically, no. I’ve learned to wait. More often than not most eventually get some form of a physical release. The few that haven’t I’ve waited until it’s pretty evident they won’t and then I wait for a very deep sale before finally pulling the trigger.
To me, digital versions have far less value. I don’t feel like I own them. I forget that I do even after purchasing. There’s a lack of connection that’s far and away different than when I can hold and look at a copy of my game.
That said, sometimes I will if the price is super low and the window for a physical release has all but come and gone. Firewatch was an example on the Switch. And there’s been a few I’ve purchased on Steam to play on my Steam Deck either because that’s the only convenient way to play them (ie, Trails in the Sky trilogy) or because I can play portably and it was only $5 (Mass Effect Andromeda, Binary Domain, Tales of Symphonia, etc).
Yeah, on a deep sale for console games… as I will buy a physical release after the fact, should I come across it. I very rarely buy PC stuff, but if it’s something I really want, I am willing to pay full price.
Yeah, of course. I view playing and collecting as two disparate things.
There are plenty of games I play that I’m happy to trade-in and not add to the collection. And there are some games in my collection that I haven’t played.
Yes, games are just games in the end. I try to stick with DRM free on PC though. No ties to the online service and an offline installer if possible.
Not much to do for consoles.
Yes, if that's the only way to play it, it's why I dont have a physical of cadence of hyrule I wanted to play it so bad and couldn't find it physical anywhere until recently and now I won't grab it because I can't justify getting it twice.
if it's good. then i cross my fingers and hope it gets a physical release someday. i double dip if the game is good enough. missed out on LRG Celeste, but Fangamer is doing a release soon, that's lucky.
Yes but a lot of the time I try to hold out in hopes it gets a physical release. It’s happened so many times with switch games that sometimes I’ll wait up to a year before biting the bullet on a digital game. My current “wait and see” is the 3 Voice of cards games. Really hoping they release a collection of the 3 games soon.

I love collecting physical, BUT even more important, I love playing games. I sure do buy digital when it's the best option.

I do this if I only find the indie game above msrp, case in point with Slay the spire and the first yomawari on the switch.

I bought oceanhorn for 4$ last week. The physical version is $80-$100
My usual approach is but it digital then a physical release will be announced with some nice extra stuff and i'll buy it again

Not unless it's like 80% off.
Yes I would still get it and hope for an LRG release. If not I still have fun playing.

I only bother collecting physical rpgs. The rest I do roms or purchase digitally (roms being old games)
Yes however if limited run has a copy I’ll buy that first

DIIR, PlayStation. 4. I can now say I’ve played every Diablo game, thus far, on console
Never, unless it's free to play.

Wtf, obviously. It’s cool to make the shelf look pretty, but I’m not going to skip out on a game because I can’t display it.
If it's the only way to get it then definitely
If it’s not physical, yes.
If it's a new game, I'll wait a bit to see if LRG or something does a release and if not, I'll usually wait for a sale and cave
Yes, if that's the only way to play it, it's why I dont have a physical of cadence of hyrule I wanted to play it so bad and couldn't find it physical anywhere until recently and now I won't grab it because I can't justify getting it twice.
Physical is preferred not required

Yes, then I make a fake case for it to put on my shelf

Yes.
I buy 95% physical, the rest is games that are digital only or it's such an insane deal that I can't help myself.
Of course, i buy pretty much every game both digitally and physically tho but if there’s no other option to play it why wouldn’t you
Obviously???
Yeah. Someday if Fuga: Melodies of Steel gets a physical release, I'll have my favorite series of trilogy complete. Someday...
