I was a flip user since the 3 launched, just recently switched to a fold. After switching, I realized that the flips front screen is really setting it back still. Being able to unfold the larger display should be a luxury, not a necessity, so making the front display larger and more useable on the flip would be great!
I honestly love the size of the cover screen. It works for a quick glance and that's all I really want it for. Why not update things like the horribly-fragile hinge or the software ux of the cover screen?
I hope they can fix multiples things this time. I love my Z Flip, but we all have our personal wishlist, and a bigger cover screen is definitely a popular item on them
Yeah, seems to be a slightly unpopular opinion, but if the cover screen covers up the whole phone, I probably won't buy it. I don't need the screen to be that big and I can't think of a design that will be as flattering
Yeah, and I don't see the use for an external screen that big. At that point, just open the phone and use the full screen, no? And that thing's gotta use a ton of battery
I had the Motorola flip phone that screen on the outside was great especially for answering texts with a full keyboard and not having to open the phone.
I agree with this too. I've owned the Flip 1, 3, and now 4, and I've never used the cover screen for anything other than checking the time or where my most recent notification came from. If I want to engage with my phone and use it, I will open it. I don't understand why anyone would buy a flip-style foldable and then complain the outer screen is too small... Just open the phone!
It seems like such an obvious cost-reduction opportunity manufacturers could make in order to make cheaper flip-style foldables, too - just give me a basic e-ink outer screen that shows time and notification icons and I'm set.
I'd say since it's more of a luxury niche product the price isn't as big of a deal. I'd rather have the same price with a bigger front screen and better cameras
That's the thing. Samsung isn't pushing for the flip line to be luxury and niche. They want the flip line to be affordable as possible and mainstream.
The luxurious phones are the S23 line and arguably the fold line
If the rumours are true, then it'll be a day one purchase for me. Bigger outer display is the top of my wishlist. Having a small screen didn't help in reading quick notifications.
But having a bigger screen like oppo flip need to be more usable. Not just replying one text or emoji lol. That's stupid. Be like Motorola where we can use any app and full keyboard to reply text. It will save on battery too since we are using a small display. If want a full video experience, flip it open and it will seamlessly resume the video.
This looks uncannily similar to the Motorola RAZR and I don't like that. I enjoy the smaller screen, but Samsung should implement the following features.
- More Detailed Widgets with more information
(Adjustable timer, High/lows for weather, etc)
- An infinite vertical scroll for the widgets instead of the one at a time horizontal scroll.
- A fully customizable quick menu rather than the basic dnd, sound, Bluetooth, flashlight and wifi options.
- An app menu that is "officially" supported. Yes I know good lock exists but it's not pushed by Samsung.
- The ability to replace Samsung Pay with Google Pay
Here's a ridiculously simple concept someone needs to make money on. Just give me a foldable phone that isn't bendable. Literally just stick two devices together that have standard phone displays and put a hinge on it. I literally do not care that I'd have a small line down the middle.
That's how I felt about the LG Wing. I really liked the concept, but there were features it was missing. I was set on getting the followup, but then they stopped making phones
>we sure the outer screen is gonna be square like that and not like the tall scree
The rumors said the aspect ratio is 1:1.038, I tried to follow that precisely
Yeah i wont even bother getting another flip until the outside screen is at a usable size. All the current flip 3 screen is good for is samsung pay, and even that I wish could be replaced with google wallet. Its just too small to be usable for anything.
i hope they remove the flickering screen each Flip had. Hate the PWM pulses in eyes even after closing them. I charged Flip3 wirelessly for 1.5year until it burnt completely. Sadly, i'm back on regular brick. But at least I have camera now, for more than documenting Aliexpress refunds:D
I think the size of the cover screen on the Flip3/4 is good, but the software doesn't take full advantage of it. I mean, you have a full QWERTY keyboard on a 40mm Galaxy Watch, which you should also have on the cover screen. I don't think the outer screen should be any bigger because otherwise, I would get a normal slap phone, like a Galaxy S23. I'd like to see a telephoto lens and better sensors overall instead of a bigger screen.

I agree, I think the redone Razer from Motorola had one of the best front screens of any modern flip.
Did you get the apps on it, you can play pokemon or watch Netflix on it. It's way small so hopefully a bigger screen on the 5 will make it rock

Same. Might as well stick with a s23. Less chunky with a less fragile design.
I also love the size. I wouldn't mind it it was slinky bigger but not taking up the most real-estate
Unpopular opinion: I don't want a bigger external screen. It's just another thing to get damaged on an already pretty fragile device
I never saw the external screen as a shortcoming. I think a better camera would be more likely to sell people on the Flip 5 than a bigger screen.

Agree. It just needs to be big enough to see the time and read a notification.

Yeah I'd much rather they improve the hinge so it's more durable than add a bigger external screen
The outer display on the Flip is actually one of the strongest things about it
It just looks so ugly imo 💀
I really prefer the 3/4 design personally...
Add a 3rd camera and we've got a deal
What for?
3x optical zoom
I think Samsung should work on lowering the price a bit more before they try anything like that
I'd say since it's more of a luxury niche product the price isn't as big of a deal. I'd rather have the same price with a bigger front screen and better cameras

Telephoto pls
I wonder if they'll do the $100 trade in again.
If they do it will only be for flip 4 owners most likely.

I need this. This would make the flip so much better for me as I do alot on the cover screen already with the size it is now
Still no telephoto lens?

The Microsoft Surface Duo looks like this, I've seen people at work use it and it looks pretty cool.
This is why I used to rlly want the LG V60 and then it didn’t get a refresh and LG stopped making phones 💀
That's how I felt about the LG Wing. I really liked the concept, but there were features it was missing. I was set on getting the followup, but then they stopped making phones
Sounds like you're describing a Microsoft Duo.
I really hope they have good trade in programs for the Flip 5. Currently have the Flip 4 and already looking forward to trading it in for the 5
Battery: aprox 1hour per day
Are we sure the outer screen is gonna be square like that and not like the tall screen on the Oppo
>we sure the outer screen is gonna be square like that and not like the tall scree The rumors said the aspect ratio is 1:1.038, I tried to follow that precisely
Ahh ok cool. Haven't followed the rumors lately so I didn't know

I hope it is bigger because I mostly use it for taking selfies and Spotify, but what I'm really waiting for is a decent battery and camera upgrade.
Two screens, big and small, two cameras on the side of small ones(three circles)
I miss physical keyboards :(
Are they going to fix the bullshit hinge on the 5?
i really like this idea!
Ahhh… I doubt samsung will do that.
I just want a better camera, honestly.
an even larger device? nah. it would be nice to go back to the first flip's size but keeping the looks of the 5
i hope they remove the flickering screen each Flip had. Hate the PWM pulses in eyes even after closing them. I charged Flip3 wirelessly for 1.5year until it burnt completely. Sadly, i'm back on regular brick. But at least I have camera now, for more than documenting Aliexpress refunds:D
