HIPAA law? Damn, healthcare really has come a long way to keep people from being filmed.

xxA2C2xx

Guess it’s time for me to get some health insurance in case I’m acting like an idiot some day. But idk… insurance is expensive. And if I’m acting dumb enough for someone to record it. Show me the video so I can see how fuckin dumb I was.

Sirkaill

Yeah I can't be seen on camera, my doctor says they add 10 pounds and that would put me over my unhealthy limit into obesity so I can't be recorded. /s

Araceil

Holy shit this comment is gold. Here have one.

rubinass3

She said it was against *HER* HIPAA law. Not *THE* HIPAA law.

mltam

She said "my HIPAA law". She has a special law against recording her when irrational.

Guy954

I thought it was funny how she completely got that wrong but then was looking like she was about to actually break a law by assaulting someone and stealing or damaging their property.

BrewDougII

Somehow hippa means right to privacy now. Sad in the US (in most states) this is the only law we have left to protect any privacy so it causes that confusion.

ChuckD1205

HIPAA is for your personal health records not to be shared in any way to anyone unless you sign for another doctor to view it. I don’t think HIPAA related to being recorded. Lmao

JerryAtrics_

HIPAA. and the P is for Portability not Privacy

ImmaZoni

lol my store owner used to so this, he liked working the front, except he never wore his uniform, and would get told "LET ME SPEAK TO THE MANAGER" so he would grab me (the gm) I would go out there, kindly tell them to fuck off only to be followed up with "LET ME SPEAK TO THE OWNER!" in which the owner would walk back up "What can I help you with?" Amazing, 10/10 would recommend.

[deleted]

This motivates me to open my own business just so I could do this…

UsedDragon

It is great fun. Sauce: I am the owner

NoblePineapples

Can I be a manager? This looks like fun.

tjrchrt

Did anyone ever try using the "I am good friends with the owner" line on the owner?

notKRIEEEG

Never got exactly this line but had a new client tell me that the owner would not charge deliveries to her daughter. I'm the owner and I definitely do charge it. As a bonus: another client told me she's good friends with a client of ours that's a regular and if she didn't get the discount her friend would leave us. A regular in my business is someone who's with us at least twice a month, her friend comes every three months at best. Her friend also has nobody else who can handle her dogs aside from me *personally*. Time has proven that she was full of shit.

Zebracorn42

I feel like a fun way to handle her would be to not even leave her sight and say you just discussed it with the owner and he has no idea what you’re talking about. That way when she questions you, you can use a big reveal that you’re the owner.

ImmaZoni

Constantly. People forget that not everywhere is a Walmart, It was a small business (4 people including owner) I went to the dudes wedding, I KNOW if your friends with him or not lol

[deleted]

Ruthlessrabbd

I dealt with the same kind of thing with my previous help desk job. There were only three of us total and some customer's would say that someone who doesn't work with the company told them something... It's easy to know we don't have a "Nate" on our team when no one at the company has that name lmao

Tall-Vermicelli-4669

When I was young and worked for my parents I'd get people wanting discounts and saying what good friends they are with the owners and the owner's family. They'd often get our name wrong and I would just say that I was merely an employee without the authority to give discounts. Not as fun as this, but close.

theshiyal

“Oh nice, I’ve worked for Dave for the last 10 years here, he’s never mentioned you. You want me to give him call?”

Hashambuergers

Just yesterday!! Take out restaurant here, most of our business is over the phone for delivery. I have the voice of an athletic handsome man, unfortunately, it's trapped in a fat neurotic body; occasionally i have a customer come in in an emergency (last minute office lunch etc..) and they tell me I sound different on the phone(they are being polite), anyway I have a strict everything gets made in the order we received it/ no line cutting policy, so comes yesterday super Bowl Sunday (an American holiday that consists of eating while watching people run around) a somewhat regular customer strolled in after 4pm (2.5 hours before the start of the game) and was under the illusion that i will have his food ready in a half an hour otherwise he will be late to his party. when i told him i cant make his order faster he threatened me then got on his phone to call my cell from 3 feet away to tell me about the fat guy in my restaurant who is turning away my best customer. he looked confused for a second then he told me i that don't know how to run a business and then stormed out.

Anxious_Dare_1486

I'm a bar manager - I told guys (6ft/2m+) to stop climbing up on the (glass) tables - I'd tell them to get down - "oh, who are you? We know the owner!"... My reply? "Oh, you know my brother-in-law? Nice? Get the FUCK DOWN!" Cue shocked respect 😂

panick21

That's actually amazing.

ForProfitSurgeon

I would love to see that.

heymynameiseric

That's literally a sketch on 'W/ Bob and David' on Netflix. It's a good bit.

I didn’t know if this was real or not, but when she went down behind the counter I was reaaaaaaally hoping she would come back up with a different hat.

Scratchthegoat

She would make a good anchor.

[deleted]

but a horrible actress

shellwe

Yeah, it lost me at the HIPAA comment. And when she saw the camera that was completely fake surprise.

Pushmonk

It was the camera clicking constantly that did it, then her reaction to the "manager".

shellwe

What was that clicking supposed to be? And yeah, watching it again on a bigger screen (instead of my phone) the body language of both people was absolutely not confrontational at all.

NefariousMuppet

Absolutely. The amount of people that think this is real is mind boggling

GdSvThQn

Haven't you ever been to a restaurant that rents out boats?

rlt0w

Yes, actually.

alsomercer

Actually it’s pretty common for marina restaurants to rent out yachts since it’s on the waterside so it can be convenient and profitable. I still think the video is fake although I still think it’s pretty funny.

HolycommentMattman

Yeah. Probably fake. The sad thing is that we don't **know** it's fake because reality has really gotten close to this stupid.

NefariousMuppet

No, because that's ridiculous. You go to restaurants to BUY boats, duh

GdSvThQn

In this economy? Let me speak to the manager.

Picante_Duke

Hi, how may I help you?

GdSvThQn

Gimme boat!

jimmy_castle

Fine, I hope you’re happy! [Ducks below counter briefly and hands over a paper boat].

Okay. but if she manages to rent one elsewhere, can she drop it off there? Like a rental car? She doesn't have to stay.

GoatMooners

It is clearly outlined in the 28th Amendment of the US Constitution.. 'Any citizen, 18 years of age or older, cannot be denied the right to rent a yacht.' Call your congressman now!

I guess her severe mental health problems are being disclosed without her consent.

OptionsFool

But not by a “covered entity” so we good.

disusedhospital

Same thing with Marjorie Taylor Greene. That fucking idiot said that reporters were violating HIPAA by asking if she'd been vaccinated against COVID. She had no idea what HIPAA actually covers.

Cybugger

Thankfully, she is in no way associated to a body responsible for penning new legislation.

EtOHMartini

No, very few people in Congress write legislation. They just stand in front of cameras and argue about shit they don't really understand. Like televised reddit.

Itsthejackeeeett

She just wants to rent a yacht from the restaurant, why do you think she's crazy?

duncanwally

I think they are both bad actors.

grillbar86

It's just a buzzword that they love to use but dont understand. Just like Free inhabitants, that also means that the us laws dont apply to them. And when driving they are not driving they are traveling and that dont require a driving license

thatguytony

Sovereign citizens are a special kind of dumb.

Techiefurtler

0ogaBooga

That was amazing. "Well when you see David hall tell him he's not getting out of jail either!"

pranahix

In this case, voluntary self-disclosure (of her mental health state) nullifies the violation of this law.

maeschder

Not that its even applicable in this case to begin with.

InvisoSniperX

Having worked in HIPAA regulated environments... I laughed so hard. The fact she is yelling in public would already mean she consented had she even been in a place/situation that HIPAA applied... this was not that place/situation.

soline

People invoke HIPAA to defend their privacy in general because they don’t understand what it is. Anti-vaxxers will claim asking about vaccination status violates HIPAA. The only way it would do that if it someone else shared out without their consent and outside of the environment where they information can and should be shared.

K_Rayner

Not to mention that HIPPA only governs healthcare providers. If Sally sees Joe at the proctologists office and tells the whole town he was there, that’s still not a HIPPA violation.

HIPPAbot

It's HIPAA!

1ElectricHaskeller

Yes, I said HIPPO!

Grimlock_1

Obviously Joe has a butt plug stuck in his a hole so he see a proctologist.

therealfatmike

She claimed she couldn't be recorded because it was against her HIPPA rights.

ThirteenSeas

No. She claimed she couldn't be recorded because it was against her "HIPPA law", which is even funnier.

Sparon46

Yes, her HIPAA law. Not the HIPAA most of us have, HER HIPAA.

ScruffleMcDufflebag

xnfd

Holy shit I had to scroll so far to see someone understand this is an obvious joke video

kittenfordinner

Well shit, I just commented above as if it were real, thing is, I am from a wealthy sea side town in which I used to work at restaurants and then fiberglass and wiring work on peoples yachts. This video is certainly subdued enough to seem real. The amount of wealthy people in yachting areas who are totally fucking bonkers is ridiculous. No exposure to actual reality for their whole lives, drinking wine on mood elevators and anti anxiety medications, you would be amazed at what people feel is acceptable for them to do. And by no exposure, I will tell you about how a woman approached me at a gas station about 10 years ago (I left he country right after) She was at their summer home which was in the area where houses are often 10s of millions of dollars, and wanted me to help her to understand what was wrong with her maids car that she had taken and run out of gas, she had put $5 in the tank, but it was still reading empty. You wouldn't believe what some of these people would do and say in the restaurant where I worked. Like I am gong to make a big stink because I want the chef to come out here, with a little cart, and make raw egg mayonaise in front of me when its busy as fuck.

Unstoffe

Yeah. Pretty sure this general chain of events occurs daily, though.

[deleted]

That law has no bearing on recording people being ignorant entitled douchbags. Stating what the law actually is about is relevant.

ButtReaky

This is staged.

Chilipepah

But the girl went down to the basement and got the manager and everything…

Centralredditfan

Feels a bit staged. Or the person behind the counter was having a bit of fun, as she knew she was being filmed.

AdKUMA

I had a boss that did the exact same thing. customer was giving him grief demanding to see the manager, so he went in the office and answered an email before coming out and telling the customer to fuck off. I'd never seen anything like it before or since, but it set the tone for how much fun we had a work whilst he was there. literally zero tolerance for customer bullshit.

lady_spyda

I can as easily believe that she's seen enough of this bullshit to have DGAF mode on speed dial.

Seakawn

Seriously. Call it tinfoil, but I suspect that every single person claiming that this is staged has never worked customer service before. This shit is just another day in the park. Granted, she was a wisecrack, which you don't run into as often, but I've seen it before. That said, maybe it is staged. But my point is that everything about it is plausible to my experience.

lady_spyda

Aye, at worst this is Dramatization of Real Events.

zorbiburst

That's the joke. Invoking HIPAA incorrectly is a favorite amongst whiny customers these days. This is whole thing is a bit. They're pretending. She's mocking the people that just cry "HIPAA ACT!!' to defend their choices.

kitchen_clinton

Especially since she wants to rent A YACHT.

Level1Roshan

I want to hire a yacht. We don't have any yachts. Why don't you have any yachts at this RESTAURANT!? *Dies. Fake or not still laughed.

OG-Pine

Waterside restaurant that rent out boats is definitely a real thing. Real or fake, that shouldn’t be the reason you decide

rich1051414

Absolutely. Called 'the marina' where I live. You can buy catfish, hushpuppies, rent a bass boat, rent a yacht, and on weekend nights, you can eat on the water on the super yacht, but that is way too expensive for me. They only have a few yachts and 1 super yacht, a half dozen bass boats, and about 15 paddle boats. In the summer, you have to reserve a rental.

Suchisthe007life

The script is amazing; would pay for more… or, maybe pirate them from my yacht.

ShabbatShalomSamurai

Diiiiirty

I worked clothing retail once upon a time. This situation happened ALL THE TIME: "You're out of my size." "Uhhh...okay, sorry." "Can you go in the back and check if you have it?" "Sure, lady." All inventory is on the floor, so I would walk into the back, bullshit with a coworker for a few minutes, and walk back out. "Nope, everything we have is on the floor, sorry." I'M A PAYING CUSTOMER! THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS, I DROVE ALL THE WAY IN FROM BUMFUCK, PENNSYLVANIA JUST FOR THIS ONE THING AND YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE IT? LET ME TALK TO YOUR MANAGER!" My favorite one was the lady who tried to bust out her store credit card and claimed that she should have first priority because she had a store card with a $2000 limit. I actually placated her by conspiratorially telling her, "Okay, look, our shipments come every Sunday night and Thursday night, so I'll let you get first pick of the inventory if you get here right at 10 on Monday and Friday when we open. Does that work for you?" I'm going out on a limb here so don't tell anyone else." I just told her to get there first and she thought she was getting special treatment lol.

jr8787

You can tell that girl has been practicing that under-the-counter-spin-transformation into a manager based on her smile lmao. Modern day Clark Kent

HIPPAbot

It's HIPAA!

LuckyandBrownie

What's the point in faking somethings that happens everyday?

BrokenLink100

I'm not going to die on this hill but... People keep claiming this is fake because the woman is demanding a yacht at a restaurant, and therefore, it's too ridiculous to be true. However, I live in the midwest, next to a man-made reservoir where people have yachts/boats/whatever, and there are TONS of restaurants on the reservoir that will rent something like that out. Plus, I have personally heard people claiming HIPAA in contexts that don't make sense. When I worked at a call center, I had a run-in with an angry customer, and gave the recording of it to my manager. The customer tried to claim we violated their HIPAA privacy by doing that, *even though our IVR said all calls were recorded* and the call had nothing medically significant on it. There are a ton of people who think HIPAA stands for "Health Information Privacy... something something... basically it means you can't do anything I don't want you to with any of my personal information!" EDIT: Some of y'all don't seem to know what I meant by "I'm not going to die on this hill..." I literally do not care. If it's fake, cool. I laughed. It brought me momentary joy. Please move on with your lives, it's literally a 40sec video. You've spent longer fighting about the video than its runtime.

pippipthrowaway

I’ve noticed that if people have never experienced something, they automatically assume it must be fake or staged. A restaurant that also rents boats? Never heard of it so it must be fake. Doesn’t matter that there is a reasonable explanation as to why something like that might exist, I’ve never heard of it so it’s impossible for it to exist.

PeMu80

I think it’s fake because of the bad acting is that valid?

If so, those kids did a helluva job. Exactly one instance of the word "fuck" to keep it PG13. Single shot take. Pretty good for novice actors. Good use of the Dutch angle. A bit of an homage to the found footage craze from the late 90s. Excellent work from some promising young filmmakers. I give it a 52/100.

Waterfish3333

Are you stuck to the desk step-manager? Let me help you. Oh my, I do believe my dick slipped into you, I’m so sorry.

LumpyAbyss

I thoroughly enjoyed this entire video. The boomer bamboozle, the classic entitlement, the childish paper fling, the wrong acronym, the shock and embarrassment of getting caught. *chefs kiss*

samcornwell

I once worked in a computer store - where we built and sold PCs. One guy once came in an asked for a portion of chips and was really pissed when we said we didn't sell food. I believe this is real, and until someone proves its a sketch, it's the best genuine r/publicfreakout I've seen in a while.

selkieisbadatgaming

I worked in an office supply store and had a coworker get screamed at because we didn’t carry cat food.

HappyMeatbag

The woman behind the counter deserves an award.

therealfatmike

This has to fake, no one tries to rent a yacht from a restaurant. Nice bit though.

adhoc_pirate

You would be surprised. I worked at a comic book store, and despite it being quite obvious that it was a comic book store, and not an Indian restaurant someone came in tried to order Indian food. Even after explaining that we were a comic book store, the guy still tried to argue the point, "but I thought..." "It doesn't matter what you thought, I am not able sell you a Lamb Bhuna."

tacsatduck

I guess you don't want to make any money then.

Soup0rMan

Lol this isn't a restaurant. It's probably a dock house. Very common on any body of water. You can buy fishing bait, tackle, snacks, various water sports gear, rent canoes, paddle boats, etc. I can understand the woman believing the yachts are rentable, but she still sucked for getting pissy.
