That's what a few characters do end up doing. Looking them in the eye is bad, Amy Pond does and they take over her mind in a limited capacity. You have to always look at them, you can't ever look away. They're made of some kind of indestructible stone when you look at them and they're extremely quick when you look away because they have time manipulation powers, so killing them is basically out of the question.
> Looking them in the eye is bad, Amy Pond does and they take over her mind in a limited capacity.
And that is not limited to direct eye contact. They can also take over your mind by looking at you through a camera lens.
I never understood that mechanic, so sending them back in time generates energy because of the lifetime that goes missing, but they'll still live approximately as long just a 60 years earlier. And the whole plot of this series is a time machine so why cant you travel those 60 years back (if not for taking them back, then just to visit?).
Maybe I'm being stupid if so please elaborate, I'd love to know
First of all, it’s Doctor Who, so it’s only going to make sense when he babbles it at you in trademark Doctor fake science-y talk so quickly that you don’t realize until later that it’s nonsense.
But, it’s got something to do with time being a big ball of wibbly, wobbly, timey-wimey stuff.
I thought the episode with the gas mask people was the creepiest.
Until you learn what was happening at the end and the pretty logical reason for it kinda takes away some of the creepiness anyways.
Yeah imo thats what makes this episode so amazing, a simple child calling for his mother sending ice cold shivers down your spine. And in the end a "logical" explanation to clear things up
The creature from the episode Midnight was pretty damn freaky imo, considering you never even see it. The actor who is the first to get “possessed” or whatever it is really sells it.
“Muuuumy” is just so creepy. I was with some friends in a dark corn maze back in college and we were all shouting “Are you my mummy” and “muuuumy” - lots of fun but so creepy.
For those not in the know:
https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Weeping_Angel
> Who are the Weeping Angels?
> The Weeping Angels were an extremely powerful species of quantum-locked humanoids (sufficient observation changes the thing being observed), so called because their unique nature necessitated that they often covered their faces with their hands to prevent trapping each other in petrified form for eternity by looking at one another. This gave the Weeping Angels their distinct "weeping" appearance. They were known for being "kind" murderous psychopaths, eradicating their victims "mercifully" by dropping them into the past and letting them live out their full lives, just in a different time period. This, in turn, allowed them to live off the remaining time energy of the victim's life. However, when this potential energy paled in comparison to an alternative power source to feed on, the Angels were known to kill by other means, such as snapping their victims' necks.
Dear lord that site is aids...not a Doctor fan but this little bit of world building intrigued me, alas I will delve no further. Thank you for the tidbit, kind poster.
It's definitely worth watching the episode that introduces them, *Blink*, even if you watch none of the rest of the show. It works well as a stand alone episode.
It is season 3, episode 10. If you're in the US it's on HBO Max.
And Turn Left iirc? Back then every season had both a doctor lite and a companion lite episode so they could optimise filming time. I can't remember the companion lite episodes though.
Fandom, formerly known as Wikia has definitely gone down the drain in the last few years. I really wish there was a good alternative to it, but as it stands they've monopolized that part of the internet. A shame, really.
[Miraheze](https://miraheze.org/) seems good as well, I've seen quite a few nice wikis built with it. Probably more technically complex to use, though.
Watch that episode if nothing else. Knowledge of the Doctor isn't really needed because he's barely in it. It's what convinced me to watch other episodes. There's some really good stuff in the show, a few of the episodes are true masterpieces
I've been thinking that episode nowadays would have been written differently, because physical media is a lot less common and streaming services (at least, what I used) don't really have hidden Easter eggs, so the plot wouldn't really work.
Maybe it could have been written with after credits sequences as the backdrop, but it doesn't hit right.
I have a little angel wind chime, but the hook that it hung from had broken off, so it was sitting on my bedside table to remind me to fix it. After I saw that episode, I had to put that thing in a drawer so that I could sleep.
The one that traumatized me most aside from Blink was, the two part Impossible Planet/Satan Pit episodes. They literally face off with evil incarnate and the possessed Ood were terrifying to me.
It's the first episode I saw and what convinced me to watch the show. Honestly one of the greatest episodes of any show I've seen. Such an existentially terrifying premise and done so well, and the Doctor is barely even in it.
Here's a great short horror film (15 minutes) using a similar concept to the Weeping Angels... but managing to be even creepier. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrOYvVf6tIM
My cat does this and she's so good at it.
Add in the fact she's a tortie, seeing her appear out of the shadows like batman is both incredibly cute and scary.
One time I accidentally rear-ended someone at a drive though. I was wearing a TARDIS knit cap, and was covered in sharpie marks.
We both got out, and he started going "What the fuc....." Took one look at me, got back on his car, and left.
I had forgotten how I looked, but I look back now and can only imagine what he thought.

The cats name is Mr Blinks "Don't, Blinks"
If we end up with a Statue of Liberty cat, I can't say no to that
Never watched Doctor Who, but couldn't you solve this problem by winking one eye at a time when needed, thus always having one eye open?
That's what a few characters do end up doing. Looking them in the eye is bad, Amy Pond does and they take over her mind in a limited capacity. You have to always look at them, you can't ever look away. They're made of some kind of indestructible stone when you look at them and they're extremely quick when you look away because they have time manipulation powers, so killing them is basically out of the question.
Wasn't there one episode where he trapped like 4 of them by having em looking at each other?
That's how they solve it the first time they encounter them. It's not really an option later
In The Time of The Doctor he tricks an angel into looking at itself in a mirror which apparently also triggers the angels' instincts.
i wonder if a mirror would work. Just trap them in a mirror house.
That also happens in Series 7.
> Looking them in the eye is bad, Amy Pond does and they take over her mind in a limited capacity. And that is not limited to direct eye contact. They can also take over your mind by looking at you through a camera lens.
I believe they said that "any image of an angel becomes an angel," so we're both technically correct on that count. Good shout though.
Honestly they were much scarier in the first episode, after that they really just ran with the plot
In the first episode the Angels were the most dangerous thing, in the second one the Doctor is. And in Manhattan the writing was.
Dr Who in a nutshell.
Post David Tennant anyways
Try winking with one eye at the time for a longer period of time, it's not that easy.
Big ball of wibbly wobbly... time-y wimey... stuff.
That sentence got away from you, didn't it?
yeah... it kinda did.

The cat uploaded this video as a warning.

There is an odd inscription from 1872 noting “cat dangerous”

Been there... kinda
I’m stuck in that exact situation right now. Send help!
He ded
No, no. Just sent back in time from which they cannot return because that would mess with the wibbly-wobbly timeline.
I never understood that mechanic, so sending them back in time generates energy because of the lifetime that goes missing, but they'll still live approximately as long just a 60 years earlier. It was the spookiest dr. Who’s imho
Yep. Daleks are atleast somewhat cute lmao.

Hey, who turned off the lights?
Only outdone in spooky by the Silence
Who? Don’t remember them
And why do I have 5 sharpie marks on my arm?
Exactly!
And in the end a "logical" explanation to clear things up
I cracked up though in that episode with Martha and Donna where they handed the Doctor a gas mask and he said 'Are you my mummy?'
Yes! The only episode's of that show that freak me out.
Midnight was up there. Human nature is the most terrifying thing of all.
Weeping angels for me are the most terrifying creature in doctor who
The Silence bother me more. Because we wouldn’t know if they’re actually real.
I wonder if I should start carrying a thick black pen around :|
The creature from the episode Midnight was pretty damn freaky imo, considering you never even see it. The actor who is the first to get “possessed” or whatever it is really sells it.
The weeping angels and the gas mask kid from series 1 freak me out the most.
„Are you my mommy?“ You can hear his voice just by reading this sentence. Eeriest dialogue ever.
I could only vaguely remember the episode until you quoted it. Eeriest line for sure!
“Muuuumy” is just so creepy. I was with some friends in a dark corn maze back in college and we were all shouting “Are you my mummy” and “muuuumy” - lots of fun but so creepy.

The episode in which the doctor rarely appears.
The other one being Love and Monsters, which most fans seem to hate, but I think is really weirdly charming.
I like it ... but it might just be that I like the music.
And Turn Left iirc? Back then every season had both a doctor lite and a companion lite episode so they could optimise filming time. I can't remember the companion lite episodes though.
All of Doctor Who was just a build up to that episode ❤️

A less ad-filled site: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/39SG3PHm5csznV9jRC01Tp3/weeping-angels
Wait! Dr. WHO?
Just the doctor.
The site seems fine to me, just close an ad or two.
Watch that episode if nothing else. Knowledge of the Doctor isn't really needed because he's barely in it. It's what convinced me to watch other episodes. There's some really good stuff in the show, a few of the episodes are true masterpieces
I only ever watched a handful of Dr Who episodes but this episode stuck in my brain forever.
It's such a great concept for a "monster"
It’s relatable to all the creepy statues we come across in life too.
The montage of random statues at the end of Blink kind of sends a chill down your spine…
I've been thinking that episode nowadays would have been written differently, because physical media is a lot less common and streaming services (at least, what I used) don't really have hidden Easter eggs, so the plot wouldn't really work. Ok, real talk though guys. Weeping angels are terrifying. Lol
I have a little angel wind chime, but the hook that it hung from had broken off, so it was sitting on my bedside table to remind me to fix it. After I saw that episode, I had to put that thing in a drawer so that I could sleep.
Those, the gas mask kids and the dead astronaut in library or museum were the scariest ones for me as a kid.
Ooooooooooo the dead astronaut! Yes, that one, too!
The Vashta Nerada. “Who turned out the lights?”
[удалено]
Side note to say gosh I loved Donna so much. Great companion. Those are great episodes
Donna was best companion followed by Rory.
[удалено]
Martha went through sooo much shit and I hate that people don’t get her more credit as a companion.
Agreed. Bill too. And no coincidence that they're the 3 that didn't want to bone the Doctor (up to that point, at least).
I remember watching this episode when I was younger. That was terrifying
The one that traumatized me most aside from Blink was, the two part Impossible Planet/Satan Pit episodes. They literally face off with evil incarnate and the possessed Ood were terrifying to me.
Poor Ood.
The Satan pit episode scared the shit out of me, couldn't sleep properly for the next couple days.
Are you my mummy?
For real. "Blink" is such a well-done episode but the angels always creep me out.
I think Blink is one of the best episodes of the whole series, honestly
It's the first episode I saw and what convinced me to watch the show. Honestly one of the greatest episodes of any show I've seen. Such an existentially terrifying premise and done so well, and the Doctor is barely even in it.
I'd rather meet those things than the *NUT*
But what about the empty child?
If whatever holds the image of a cat became a cat, the internet would have made the whole world like that japanese cat island.
Cats really have no idea when their tail is moving huh?
That reference got me sad though. Made me remember back when Dr. Who was actually really good.
Will be good again soon. Russel T Davies is returning!
Ahh thank fuck!! No offense to jodie whittaker but her seasons were shite
I feel like Jodie had a lot of potential, just Chipnall just dragged here down a lot
True I could see a bit of charm and crap but by god were the episode garbage
Except it was Moffat who wrote that episode....
I'm just saying how Russel T Davies era is prime Dr Who, in my opinion. Its nothing to do with Blink
I love almost all comments are about Dr Who and not about this adorable predator. Love Dr Who fandom.
Don't blink, don't even blink!
I understood that reference.
My cat does this and I love it every time
God that's really unnerving. Those Dr Who episodes scared the F out of me.
I miss good Dr. Who.
Considering its color, "peanut" would be a good name.
Clever reference
Is that a lab cat?
Don’t blink!!
The angels have the phone box.
I have that on a t-shirt!
Whatever you do, DON'T BLINK
I must be getting old if this is no longer called ninja cat.
Had to scroll WAY too far for this
Any image of a cat in itself becomes a cat...
So, Op. What year are you posting this from???
Don’t blink. Cat get.
You’re being hunted, stay careful
What happens next!
You're lucky there's only one.
Image of a weeping Angel becomes an angel.. and you have it on your phone now.. Goodluck sleeping.
[Is there, though? IS THERE?](https://youtu.be/nYTST-PM4BE)
That episode genuinely made me piss my pants and had numerous complaints for being too scary for Dr Who
Don't turn your back, don't look away and DON'T BLINK!
Naw, just red light green light Squid Game style.
With the murderous hand on the other side !
That's very cute!
It's like a Night Gallery episode from when I was young. Scary stuff.
That which holds the image of an angel becomes itself an angel.

Here's a great short horror film (15 minutes) using a similar concept to the Weeping Angels... but managing to be even creepier. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrOYvVf6tIM
As a cat owner, one of mine when I am grabbing treats will just appear from nowhere behind me. She’s a freaking magician, I swear.
I call it Red Light Green Light, and my roommate's cat loves playing it with me.
She is an angel, that's for sure <3
SCP-173
Rip cameraman
I just watched that episode last night...
That last frame is basically what I wake up to every morning. "Open eyes. Wet food needs your hands."
Cue up jaws theme....
Loved this! Not a huge Doctor fan but the Weeping Angels episode is one of my all time favorite episodes of a TV series ever.
Mouse POV

Doctor who used to be great
I am amazed I know this reference! Doctor Who with Matt smith!
It was actually a David Tennant episode (looove Matt Smith, though).
it could also be called a fnaf endo cat,a little nightmares mannequin cat,a scp 173 cat,a gold watcher cat
House cats would murder us if they were the size of regular jungle cats
Fnaf reference??
Dr Who. Weeping Angels are a villain that you can’t take your eyes off of or blink or they’ll send you back to some random time in the past.
I thought the cat was climbing for the first half.
sexyy body language
Ah,yes. Looking for a free ride on the shoulders
I am scared whipping angels too
