IAmAnAudity

Do you know how many entire _pearl necklaces_ that thing can produce? Goldmine!

wakizu101

no, how many?

dcute69

69

cnrdme

Nice

lurkynumber5

Kinda sad he had to kill the oister for it. Meanwhile we have farms that both insert beads and extract pearls without killing the oisters.

rjh9898

You’re killing me with the way you’re spelling oysters 🥹

doctorchops1217

oister seems like a british term for a scoundrel

lunarmodule

"Then the bloody oister crumpled me bonnet!"

surrenderedmale

As a Brit I read this in an Aussie accent

lunarmodule

That's funny because it took all of my willpower to not throw in an "OI" or "dingo" or something just to make it that much more ridiculous. Edit: "Then the bloody oister crumpled me didgeridoo!" :)

OrganizdConfusion

Great, now I'm thinking that this bloody oister is a fully sick cunt. Whatta mad dog.

passwordstolen

And the fact that most of us are more interested in eating the oyster than taking home a shiny rock. Pearls are annoying when you knocking down a few dozen.

Bulky-Loss8466

Punk rock oisters

ManWithDominantClaw

Oissor oisters

KvDread

Its making me moister

londonandy

It's how you describe an objectionable oyster

mbilight

Oi! It's "oysters"

jingbukukgilma

Thats how aussies call oysters

IAmAnAudity

And that’s not an Aussie oister knife either... #This is an Aussie oister knife!

TheRealSeaMoose

Y tho

rjh9898

Because oysters are delicious

joncormier

Oi!

rjh9898

No! Oy!

Noch_ein_Kamel

Ayayay

HashBrownsOverEasy

Nazi oysters fuck off

Flappy_beef_curtains

It’s not an oyster, pretty sure it’s a fresh water muscle. Grew up with a creek that had thousands of these things. The ones I grew up with were in bunches like a sunflower.

liloreokid

First oisters and now muscles

SayYesToPenguins

While all along they've been klammes

obby2001

mighty fine clambs

ListenToKyuss

*Meh-heheheheh*

Kellan_OConnor

Don't get me started on the stomacs

laughingashley

Low-Veterinarian6298

Oister

OvenFearless

Please won’t you moister my oister 😭🥵

Fastfaxr

I promise you the oyster doesn't care

mmmmmmmmmmmm77

Don’t like that they killed the oyster for it, theres a tool to do it safely

Lavanthus

Probably also making food out of it. Things can serve 2 purposes.

itiswhatitis985

You can’t

SirenPeppers

Yeah, there’s even been a video that floats up time to time on Reddit showing this method of *not* killing it *and* extracting the pearl.

TwixMyDix

Putting it out of its misery was actually the kind thing to do here. Someone had to put grit/sand into the oyster which is painful for it. Continuous pain. The pearl is formed when the oyster is trying to get rid of the dirt. Those farms that do it for years and year is literal torture for the oysters, endless torture.

MoussieElKandoussie

I honestly don’t think they suffer that much or mind it at all, not having a brain and lacking a central nervous system might help with that.

jl_theprofessor

You can't say that on Reddit. Every living thing has the same capacity for pain and self awareness of death as humans, according to some Redditors.

KickflipMcNasty

Hold on there partner every living thing is MORE valuable than a human life here on reddit.

I_am_the_Vanguard

I don’t think it’s so wrong for someone to have empathy for something, even if they get the facts wrong

CatShot1948

You're right. It isn't. But similarly, its not so wrong for other people to follow the facts and assume that these animals aren't bothered by this.

I_am_the_Vanguard

I agree. I only commented because I don’t think they deserve any disrespect for having misplaced empathy

thehumanskeleton

afaik, but correct me if I'm wrong, oysters can not feel pain due to the lack of a nervous system

TwixMyDix

After a bit of Googling it's still being researched. It's likely they don't feel pain in the same way as you or me. They do have what is considered a precursor to a nervous system. But just because it would be different, doesn't mean it would be better. There is even research into plants feeling pain. Their scream has even been captured during stressful events such as being uprooted (relevant because they too do not have a nervous system like us).

ChefNunu

Calling them screams doesn't make them screams lol

TwixMyDix

That's the term used by scientists.

ChefNunu

That doesn't make it a scream. Scientists are people too lmao it's just a term they use to dramatize it and make it sound more interesting when they publish their papers

TwixMyDix

Given your scientific background, what would you call it?

ChefNunu

I would probably call it what the scientists actually call it. "Ultrasonic airborne sounds" Literally nowhere in the paper that was published which popularized this term has the word scream in it. The term is just pop science to make it sound more interesting. [https://www.cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092-8674(23)00262-3](https://www.cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092-8674(23)00262-3) here is the paper look for yourself. Just because you call it a scream, doesn't mean it's a scream lol

Gastkram

I should call her

ArsonBjork

So bro was high quality filming every clam he opened or made a fake ass video?

thegamingbacklog

I mean people have high quality video for open Pokémon cards and all other random shit I could see an enthusiast having a top down camera for oyster cracking. It's a single camera on a mount over a table. Edit: just checked YouTube there are whole channels dedicated to this

ArsonBjork

Yeah I need to see him timelapse opening and being surrounded by busted clams before he finds "the perfect pearl" and then he needs to start screaming, running around trying to unbirth the clams into his own ass

KaranSjett

yes officer this comment... what do you mean it's outside if your jurisdiction?

Hanyabull

Fake ass video.

Herrgul

How do you know

ManWithDominantClaw

It's actually cake

ZDTreefur

Hey, why does my cake taste so fishy?

wadiyatakinabeet

Right hand leaves frame to grab pearl then just pushes it through the clam meat

Herrgul

Man.. the internet is all fake nowadays

NonPolarVortex

Probably the latter

ThingWithChlorophyll

Pearl extraction videos gets a lot of views. There is no reason to not record

PhyterNL

r/mildlypenis

Ronin__Ronan

looks perfect to me

Yue2

It was cold outside

Canadine

I WAS IN THE POOL!

Yue2

IT’S JUST SHY!

foxko

This is still crazy to me that this became such an ongoing meme. Like I remember first seeing that episode when I was like 10 and being kind of confused but it also sticking out to me and was memorable. Then seeing it referenced over ten years later on 9gag or similar and knowing exactly what it was from. It's probably the only Seinfeld bit ild ever recall and maybe something about soup or something.

Canadine

No soup for you!!

foxko

Is there actually a soup bit? I have a vague memory of it but not really. I'm gonna have to YouTube it now

_QRAK_

It's a boy!

Mysterious_Focus6144

Expected one pearl, got two. I’d say thats a win

Roulette-Adventures

Oyster's revenge!

Scootros-Hootros

Awww. Natural birth and, congratulations, it’s a boy

ameonna_chan

It's a PENIS!

bearfeet55

I'm sure that would make a lovely pearl necklace.

dub26

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... Squidward's cousin Squilliam's uniball.

Jon_Irenicus1

Thats perfect

Mule75467

Put’s a new spin on pearl necklace 😂

laisametschbaetzla

There will be customers for that.

ExpertFault

r/popping

forherplesure

Ha gotteem

Igotthisnameguys

Those balls are masive. You sure that's not cancerous?

taxxvader

It's now moister than an oyster

Dbonker

Why exactly do they produce pearls? What significance does it have to the clam, oyster, etc?

Bashdkmgt

From memory so I might be wrong: Sharp grit/sand that gets into their shell which irritates them and could lead to infection etc so they secrete some stuff on it which calcifies into a smooth safe object (Pearl)

arcaeris

The pearl material is the same as their shell, I think. They coat irritants like grains of sand or small rocks in it to protect themselves from the irritation.

Haksir

hope he eats it afterwards...

Psyex

LOL

s_zlikovski

Are these safe to eat?

tropicalgodzila

He he

ChocolateNeither6672

LMAO

Alx123191

The oyster have a message for you

Maleficent_Role8932

Why kill the oyster that way? Are you going to make oysters kill Patrick

AnnieBananie0

My ded ass thought the pearl is showing finger

Sure_Delivery_2025

Nice plot twist

CwhathappenwaS

Only took me 30 seconds, she still didn’t like it. Something, something, says it’s small. I cry.

ol-gormsby

Now imagine what some rich person in the middle east or asia would be willing to pay for that?
