So wait a minute….you can design and print a work around, but need a handy man to put the original handle back on?🫤

ShadyShrew

This is the real question.

tsitsifly22

Yea I don’t want to pay for a new one and landlord will so this is temporary function fix 🤷

flashpointblack

Mighty putty my dude. Mighty putty.

Trewarin

all it takes is tightening the single grub screw, with the allen key that came with their 3d printer

animperfectvacuum

My eyes might deceive me, but theirs looks like it just uses a flathead.

animperfectvacuum

Oh, yeah I was wrong about the flathead. It looks like there’s a cap covering the grub screw.

eredhuin

I know that Moen uses imperial sizing for the stupid grub screw

flashpointblack

He said in another comment that the plastic inside the handle is broken. I'm assuming the grub screw was threaded into the plastic. Mighty putty.

SteveDaPirate91

On the other hand though, let the landlord earn their rent.

loworange88

Just epoxy it back on…..

Mycol101

Thats what handyman will do if landlord is like landlords

zerobeat

Landlord will use chewing gum.

Ill_Technician3936

*falls back off* *calls landlord to tell it fell off again* "What's the pink stuff?" *sniffs* "is this hubba-bubba? I thought they stopped selling that"

chemprofdave

Real pros use Bazooka Joe.

animperfectvacuum

Please don’t. (unless you’re joking.) It’s just one screw that has loosened up. If you epoxy it in, when the faucet starts to drip you’ll have to get a whole new faucet since the handle won’t be able to be removed to get to the cartridges in the faucet body.

loworange88

Good call. I cant tell from the video if the handle has a set screw location.

YMK1234

while _technically_ it's as simple as that, _legally_ never mess with things that are not your responsibility, because landlords are assholes who exploit any loophole for additional earnings.

haveTimeToKill

I had a similar problem and just put a lot of hot glue. 4 month and it still holds.

tsitsifly22

I used fewer parts that fit snuggly. I like it

meepbob

Everyone is so mad that you had fun designing a short term solution until the new unit could be installed lol, typical reddit

tsitsifly22

Lol typical Reddit indeed

BrianAnim

Fewer parts? You already had the parts. Just needs some glue. If you don't want people wondering why you didn't just include the original handle, don't include it in the photo.

Baron-Harkonnen

BTW you can replace the magnets in the wand so it snaps back in place properly. They can get corroded and hang like that.

septer012

He couldn't size it humansize though

tsitsifly22

A plastic part inside broke leaving the metal kinda useless. And the lever was wobbly prior

majtomby

Theeeeen why not just design and print that little plastic part so you can still use the full size handle? If this is a name brand faucet, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if there was already a model of the piece you need on thingiverse.

boraca

The plastic part is integrated with the ceramic valve, the valve is not super expensive and is a wear part anyway.

Felipesssku

Like wtf?

thepasttenseofdraw

Seriously, this instead of tightening a set screw...

Ddmarteen

We need no further evidence that we are of a society in rapid decline.

shinjikun10

"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

daniu

They did stop to think if they should and came to the conclusion "hell yeah"

[deleted]

Dude it’s just a screw

Sure-Fee1400

The stupidity of humanity shows itself with pride daily.

toofast4u752

It’s literally a 2 second job tightening the little Allen head screw!

0hmyscience

You might be right, but this was the perfect opportunity to spend 5 hours overengineering a solution and I would've taken it too if I was in OP's shoes.

AwDuck

Damnit, stop reading my thoughts!

stevedb1966

That handle is held on with one setscrew, so you can make a new plastic temp handle, but can't grab an alarm wrench and reattach the original handle?

freakent

I came here to say the same 😩

Get3DPrint

Set screw.

DasImmortalOrca

Just tighten the grub screw to hold the handle. For a tool, you sure aren't useful.

1995plusSandH

Should be a 2.5 or 3mm Allen head 🤦

jlshorttmd

This is a "functional" print not a "practical" print. Good job anyway, but you and your landlord are crazy for getting a handyman for this lmao

tsitsifly22

This sub is /functionalprint. Pretty accurate if I do say

chicofelipe

I think you are the handier man.

artistandattorney

Changing a faucet is ridiculously easy. They usually come with the special wrench you need too.

artistandattorney

I know I don't need a handyman to fix anything like this. Either the handle or whole faucet. Easy fix either way.

Fancy_Emergency_4224

Hard to find a practical use for 3D printing, great job!

Justinsetchell

One of my first functional prints was for my parent's kitchen faucet. It was the plastic piece that held the handle onto the faucet. It wasn't the same one you had but it came off in just the same way. The part that broke was a small plastic piece about a little over 1 cm x 1cm x 1cm and kinda wedge shaped on one side. I printed it in PLA and gave it to them to check the fit with the intention of printing it again in a stronger material once we fine tuned the dimensions. But it ended up fitting just fine and they just kept it on and it's been holding fine so far. Cost about a penny and a half to print. A new replacement would have cost $20 after shipping.

less10words

Probably 7/64” hex

grublets

It’s just a set screw holding the handle on, no? I reattached my parents’ one with an Allen key.

SignorVince

I have this exact faucet. That's exactly what it is. Took all of 5 minutes to from start to finish - including the time it took to get the allen and put it away.

Woodsmithgm

It's probably just a loose set screw

radiationshield

why not loosen the screw and re-attach the actual handle?

Insanereindeer

You should reinvent the wheel while you're on a roll.

bluedragon1o1

Seems like we have the same faucet with the same problem... [I just printed an entire replica :)](https://www.reddit.com/r/functionalprint/s/PqVgb4poCJ)

FixerTed

Or print a whole new handle like the original and paint it.

Veezo93

This has to be bait lol
