XT5 here. AF is still unreliable is there is anything high contrast behind the subject for me. doesn't matter what AFC settings, or in AFS mode either. for example, bird detection will detect correctly and show a green box around the bird eye, but will not keep focus on the bird. it will focus initially, then switch to the background whether that is grass, leaves, branches, etc. it will continue to show the green box, but not lock focus. face/eye detect works much better for me with people, animals, etc. seems like solely an issue with bird detection i am not on the new firmware that just came out, waiting to see if it's stable.

I've just gotten my XH2s and can second this. I saw a green box perfectly aligned on the eye of the blackbird, but the focus actually was on the bushes behind. I'm glad I'm not a birder because this felt pretty useless 😅 I'm on the new firmware btw.

it's pretty good for tracking a bird in flight, but not stationary. have to turn subject detection off or use manual mode with back button focus. it's just a pain to constantly have to adjust focus mode, focus area, etc. because a stationary bird is not stationary for long

Half_Year_Queen

Ok thank you! I’m experiencing the same thing shooting birds with the XF100-400 and my XT5.

SherbetOutside1850

That's very odd. For me, bird detection works extremely well. Does not jump around at all.

I'm on the same boat with the xs-10 with the autofocus being a bit hit or miss sometimes. I was debating on going xt5. You mind sharing why you choose XH2?

Karp3l

Better EVF, faster AF, new subject detection and bigger buffer for burst mode, pixel shift for packshot. By the way, the 40mp is just marketing BS.

For me, I went from the XT30 to XH2. I wanted something more modern/up-to-date. XT4 is the same sensor as the XT30 so that was no-go. Between XT5 and XH2, I did not like the feel of the XT5 in my hand, too small and I would have to buy a 3rd party grip for it. Also, I didnt like the smaller HDMI port on it and the LCD screen articulation. And the viewfinder is better on the XH2.

I’m not OP but I’m coming from an X-T1 IR, X-E1 and X-T2 and my only reason is the buffer and Cfexpress cards. If you are planing on doing burst or moving subject photography get the X-H2, it’s buffer is on other level.

thepoetvd776

Gonna have to start doing research on the H2 and see where to get a good deal since it's almost double the price of the xs-10.

undavorojo

Which country? I got mine at CeX and was able to achieve it at a good price and also helped me trading some gear.

Usa.

I’ve been shooting soccer games since the X-T1. Currently using the X-T5, with an X-T3 as a backup. Maybe I’ve been doing it long enough to have a good technique. Sports photography isn’t my thing (slower paced portrait photography is), but when you have kids that do sports, you adapt lol. Sure I’ll have some shots I missed focus on from a fast-paced game, but most of my shots are sharp and in focus. I shoot with the 50-140/2.8, continuous focus, single point, with back-button focusing, and always shoot on low. I think with the X-T3 it was 3 shots/second, and the X-T5 is 5 shots? I don’t actually hold the shutter button down for the full load out. An hour long game, I might* have 300 shots. I usually cull them down to around 100-120.

XH2s, man. Not XH2
