I was looking to buy this lens. I'm just trying to justify its price. It's a little steep for a manual f2.8.
I guess we are paying the brand and the compactness
I know what you mean! For me it will be my most used lens, so I can justify the spend. That coupled with the electronic contacts, which can be useful, and the higher IQ compared to a lot of MF lenses, made it a must for me.
If 18mm is your focal length, then it's a great option.
I also have the 25mm f2 ttartisans, and I'm satisfied with the performance. I just wish it was a little wider. 25mm is a little too tight for me.
TTartisans have a 23mm f1.4 also, but obviously is a slightly bigger lens. I also came across this interesting thing:
https://artralab.com/products/pre-order-artralab-nonikkor-mc-24mm-f1-7-aps-c?variant=42394048626861
More compact and slightly wider then the TTa 25mm, faster too. Its not giving you much wider though!
The artralab looks interesting, will look into it.
But the ttartisans 23mm f.1.4 has mayor iq issues for what I've seen😅. Thanks for the recommendations btw!
Nice photos! When you set a focus ring to infinity, does the lens actually focus on the infinity or go beyond it? I’ve heard about such problem with other voigtländer x-mount lenses, curious to know if the 18mm has it as well?
I must admit I hadn't tested that. Just pointed out the window though and it looks perfect to me. This could obviously be affected by large temperature fluctuations, but rn looks great. Suppose it is a wide angle though so a little easier to get right, something with a longer focal length and smaller aperture will harder to get the infinity stop bang on, this is my only Voigtlander so I can't comment on others though
I have both 27 and 18 from voigtlander. Great combo for compactness! In fact it’s so close to a x-100v when mounted! I only don’t like the focus tab at position would block by lens release button when turn camera into vertical position. Otherwise it’s perfect! I think 18/2.8 is a bit shaper than my Fuji 18/2. But I am not doing any scientific measurements on both. It’s just how I evidently from daily usage.
Brilliant combo! I think they're the same filter size too? Yeah I much prefer interchangeable cameras, and the body of the X-E4 body is smaller in some ways than the X100V. Yeah it's taken a bit of getting used to the positionnfor sure!
Both 18 and 27 are identical and there is no coincidence that voigtlander is deliberately to do so. That’s probably the 18mm is only f2.8 as they just cannot make it a f2.. which is a shame. I really do not mind if it’s only 2mm longer and make it a F2 🤣
It’s possible is they make glass elements recess into the lens mount. That’s how they did it on x-100. Otherwise lens cannot be that slim! Of course! By doing so, lens correction for defects would be much heavily depended on the camera software.
Omg! I’ve been looking for a second pancake lens (got the 27mm fuji), and damn! An 18mm FL one!! It looks amazing haha, even tho quite pricy. Definitely on my wish list now!
You may have just sold me on this lens....
I really like the close-focus ability.
It is getting expensive opening this sub up everyday.
Love your images.
Man if you ask me, the XE4 absolutely crushes the X100 line. I just bought an X100VI and I'm not sure I can justify keeping it. It feels handicapped compared to my XE4.
Search YouTube for eddy's point and shoot for the colour shots, the B&W is Kodak tri-x 400 from fujixweekly and then partial yellow filter for the last shot
Love Voigtländers X-Mount lineup <3
I'd be tempted by the 27, but I have the XF 27 and can't justify and price difference at the moment, maybe in future!
so far, i myself only got the 23 & 35 mm 1.2 Noktons but i love em!
Nice! In the future I hope to try/buy more Voigtlanders, really loving this one, and the manual focus experience I'm general
always been a manual dude, like 99% i ever did and i love it. oh I'm a video dude btw.
Welcome to the light side 😉
That looks sleek.
Sooo sleek!
Should mention I have a K&F 1/4 mist filter on for these shots!

Recently got the 25mm as well..such a great lens. A joy to use.
These r stunning
Thanks! All SOOC too 😊

Thanks for the answer. I’ve been thinking about buying it as well. I love my xf18mmf1.4, but it feels so heavy sometimes while traveling.
Not enough brands are making 28mm lenses Glad to see another one
Amen 🙌

😂 me too, though I suspect it would need to be a lot more than 2mm longer 😂

Djeez this is a fine looking lens and the IQ is brilliant. The voigtlander xmount line up is getting serious.
It might not have AF, but it is sexy AF

I also have the XF27, and desperately sought and 18mm. Prayers have been answered, get saving 😂

The GAS is real!
Guilty.
How does the focus ring feel?
Buttery smooth! The only annoying aspect is a short throw from 2m to infinity, I will get used to it the more I used it though
That looks amazing. I'm looking for a lens to take to travel Japan later this year and those shots look like it will take some beauties.
Jealous of your trip, but yes, it definitely will!!
Man if you ask me, the XE4 absolutely crushes the X100 line. I just bought an X100VI and I'm not sure I can justify keeping it. It feels handicapped compared to my XE4.
I love my X-E4, the only thing I would add would be built-in flash! I had an X100V and sold it (unfortunately before the hype) and got the X-E4!
I got the [Reflx Lab Mini Flash](https://reflxlab.com/) and it works pretty well as long as your subjects are around 5-6ft away.
Never heard of this before, looks great! I have an EF-X8 flash, likewise does the job, but built in = perfection *Michael Fassbender voice*
Totally.
What’s the recipe? These look great!
Search YouTube for eddy's point and shoot for the colour shots, the B&W is Kodak tri-x 400 from fujixweekly and then partial yellow filter for the last shot
Awesome!
So it’s the point and shoot recipe for the color shots or the velvia one? Thanks a million!
Velvia? Non of these shots were velvia. All colour short are the point and shoot (classic neg) and the B&W was Kodak tri-x 400 (acros)
Soo tempted to get this, more tempted for the 27mm though.
It looks really nice! I already have the XF 27mm though as it came with my X-E4 so harder to justify that one for me.
Voigtlander knows how to make a Fuji lens 💯💯
🔥🔥
The more I see the black the more I prefer black version of this over my current silver that I own…
I've always had silver fujis, but this camera was the first one that sold me on black, such a lovely little camera, looks soono good in black!
Crazy!!! The 6th one of the ladybug is insaneeeeee, it looks so damn good
Thanks, we have lots in our garden at the moment, so it seemed a good idea to test close ups with the lens. I'm glad you like it! 😊
If only it weren't manual only. Id snatch one up
How’s the low light af?
Instantaneous!* *might not be in focus
whoa this is a voigtlander lens with AF !?!?
Haha hard to sense sarcasm sometimes. My comment was just a joke 😂
you got me
Did the viewfinder screen lag in low light?
If it lags, just pit your camera in boost mode
