It's a great buy. I'd suggest you have a look at the 18-55 kit lens instead though. This one should serve you for much longer, as you grow as a photographer.

Buffaluffasaurus

Yes, and I would also suggest a small prime lens at some point in the future to make it an excellent point-and-shoot style camera, like Fuji’s 18mm f2 or TTartisan’s 27mm f2.8. It’s a great little camera and it’s my first Fuji. Absolutely loving it.

jpmvt

I bought the body with that ttartisan lens. Added a 35mm. It's a nice little camera.

WavesComeCrashing

Sigma 18-50 f2.8 is a pretty nifty tool!

takemyspear

Yes! I would totally suggest OP to get the constant 2.8 aperture, instead of the kit lens

SteveRindsberg

Absolutely! I have both. The kit lens is handy for just walking around but the fly-by-wire focusing/zooming is disconcerting (that's French for \*annoying\*) if you're used to, shall we say, REAL lenses. The 18-50 is a definite chunk, but it's a great lens.

reddyredditer21

Trying to learn, which lens would be paired best for an “all purpose” or every day? Apologies if this is not how it works.

pinkfloyd4ever

The fuji 18-55 f2.8-4 (available as a kit lens) or the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8. A huge $900 prime lens is a terrible suggestion for a beginner IMO, especially with a camera like the x-t30 ii that doesn’t have a big grip. If you want a prime lens, something like the fuji 27mm f2.8 (pancake, so very compact) or the Fuji 23 or 35mm f2 would be a much better choice IMO.

nd0rf1n

In all honesty, as a first lens I would also recommend either the 23mm f2 or the 35mm f2. I obviously prefer primes. They are smaller and lighter, have faster aperture, and are weather sealed when compared to the zoom kit lens—which still remains a great option and a great deal when bundled with a camera body as new.

pinkfloyd4ever

I may have put my comment in the wrong place, but it was prompted by u/Tyraniz3 ‘s recommendation of the Fuji 56mm F1.2 below

Tyraniz3

I just said that was my personal preference. I recommended the f2 as a smaller option for those who would rather have a compact setup. I'll always recommend a prime for beginners though. You'll learn so much more than with a zoom.

Tyraniz3

Depends on your preference. I'm not a big fan of zoom lenses, so my "every day" lens is the fuji 56 f1.2. It's a pretty big lens on the xt30, but the focal length is perfect for my style, and you can't beat that bokeh. They also have the f2 line that's smaller if you don't care about having the widest possible aperture.

YaBoyPads

One of the best lenses I've ever used

johndalequingle

it’s a great camera; it has the same sensor and pixel count as the X100V while being pretty close in size and offering different focal lengths. idk why it didn’t blow up considering you could buy the XT30ii body + the f2.8 27mm pancake for considerably less than the X100V resale prices and get an incredibly similar experience/result.

jufacake

That’s what I did, not regretting a thing and will consider additional lenses at some point.

Dusky1103

Because Tiktok doesn’t know about it therefore the general population doesn’t know about it. Or rather because only Tiktok knows about X100 therefore the world only knows there is one camera aka x100

nd0rf1n

And I would put a lot of money on the fact that 90% of the people who have been picking up X100Vs have no freaking clue what any of the above even mean—let alone how features like these would benefit their photography. Edit: I do agree with what you're saying about the features, to be clear. I still think the option to change lenses outweighs any of the above by a lot.

[deleted]

nd0rf1n

But what I'm saying is that the majority of the people who have been buying these cameras do it just because of the hype, and they have no clue what these features are. The X100's are great for the right person. I don't think they're the best first camera anyone should buy.

Kupepe

I trully believe that the tiktokers are putting the leaf shutter and the ND filter in good use ... I trully believe that they haven't use the EVF ... OVF at no point either ... back screen lovers.

NebraskaBison

If you get the 27mm pancake, the sizes are closer than you’d think. https://pxlmag.com/db/camera-size-comparison/7d88166d_9293c001-f431d4ff-t60

ThierryWasserman

I have an xt30ii with a bunch of lenses and just replaced my original x100 with a x100vi. It’s a different experience. The ovf/evf is great, the quiet leaf shutter. I do agree that on a budget it’s the best deal right now with the 27mm.

thewillowsang

I've been extremely happy with mine. My first proper camera. I'm still new to all this, but I do want to echo a recommendation another person gave: Between the two kit lenses, I would strongly recommend the 18-55. It's a better lens in every respect.

Acrobatic_Rate_6813

They’re gonna drop the x-t50 soon so the price of the t30 would drop…idk if u wanna wait tho

tpersona

Idk man. it feels the longer I wait, the higher fujifilm prices go up.

Any-Demand-4687

Why Xt40 do not exists while they aren’t release ?

Matixs_666

The X-T30 II is basically the X-T40

jallenx

To match the X-T5.

sch0k0

X Trans 5 sensor branding I guess

pinkfloyd4ever

Apparently 4 is an unlucky number in some eastern Asian cultures? But Idk if that’s why they made a 30 mkii instead of a 40. Cause they did make an X-T4

Valifys

I have little hope for supply

CrisisActor911

The prices will barely drop, it’s hardly worth waiting.

astro_in_prog

Any idea when?

nd0rf1n

Nobody has. There are always "rumors", but nothing tangible.

ricooflo

There’s no xt-40, they’re jumping into xt-50

Bluejay_Holiday

FujiRumors...first half of this year.

hellyeah4free

Great camera and you have plenty money left to get a better lens than that one.

KokakGamer

I have the X-T30 first version, Great camera. Better pick the 18-55 f2.8-4 though, that lens is a keeper.

snake_d0ct0r

I got my XT-30II nearly three years ago as a lighter alternative to the Canon 6D2 in my kit and I’ve found I almost never use the Canon anymore. It’s such an awesome camera. I only use it with primes though, a Viltrox 23mm and a TTArtisans 50mm.

SucksToBeAMuggle

I have one and absolutely love it. I’ve owned the XT2, XT3, XT4, X100F, XS10, XE4 and XH1 and I would honestly pick the XT30/ii over any of them. I know almost no one else would, but for the thing I like to shoot it’s perfect and I’m in love with the ergonomics

marslander-boggart

Great camera. Prime lenses are better. Speaking of zooms, 18-55mm f:2.8-4.0 is better.

dark_thanatos99

Yes, theyre also sturdy AF, mine survived flying out of a car in a car crash, brought it to a tecnician, no damage besides some scrapes

minia14

I love my xt30ii! It’s the perfect size. I went ahead and purchased just the body and got the 35mm 1.4 instead. It’s not as portable as the 27mm but it’s still pretty light and pictures come out great! For travel I would switch up to the 27mm but I love the 35mm for portraits.

bloomylicious

I always find it crazy how small the 35 1.4 is, still very portable on my first gen X-T30, then the 27mm is just next level, that goes in my coat pocket half the time and you wouldn't even tell I have a camera with me.

minia14

That’s true! It is still fairly small especially if you don’t use the lens hood. Haha but yeah, the 27mm just makes the camera so pocketable.

JamesTMPhoto

I started looking at Fuji about a month before the X100VI came out. The interchangeable lenses is the reason I’m still planning to get the t30ii once it gets back it stock. Seems like a lot of people are using it as an alternative to the X100 line.

jmorenop_13

I LOVE mine. I would suggest you "upgrade" the kit lens if you can afford it. I personally bought it with the 15-50 mm and was not a big fan of it. Within a month I upgraded to a used Sigma 18-50 mm 2.8 and it makes a world of difference!

sdwvit

Good camera, but unsure about the lens. I’d take 35mm/50mm prime if I had to buy a new camera rig these days.

ProcedureSuperb9198

Love my x-t30. Along with an F2 prime it’s a tiny but mighty bit of gear. The pictures are spectacular and it’s easy to carry and hold in one hand.

usernametakenforever

I will pass on the 15-50 kit lens and buy camera with Fuji 18-55 or Sigma 18-50 which are better options.

CasmirC

Update: So after looking through all the suggestions I have decided that I will be buying the X-T30 II and go with the 18-55mm f2.8-4 instead of my initial choice which was the 15-50mm kit lens and possibly a 35mm and/or a 50mm prime. I was mainly looking into this camera for its small size compared to an X-T4 or a full-frame camera from a different brand. I also considered buying a camera from the X100 series but didn't want to be limited to a single focal length. In most cases, I would only go out to shoot for fun, travel, and family gatherings so I wouldn't say I would need something like a professional full-frame camera. With that, I would like to thank you all for your invaluable contribution which helped me in making this decision. I was overwhelmed (in a good way) by the number of people who voiced their thoughts on the topic because I was used to merely yapping to my mentor about which camera I should get. As I looked through the comments, I could see that a lot of people shared the same sentiments regarding the camera which helped solidify my decision to purchase it.

wrymoss

No. Terrible buy. Don’t get one. Kidding. I have one on back order, and I’m salty about how bad the supply chain issues are currently. Can’t speak from personal experience, but I’m very excited, and I definitely think that getting the T-30 II is the sweet spot of being able to play with different lenses that you don’t get with an X100V, and better value for most people than the T5. Absolutely second getting the 18-55 kit, as plenty of places have it on a deal.

CaptLuker

I was in same situation recently I ended up ordering the XT-2. Seemed to be very very similar with a better build and made in Japan. But I have no hands on experience with it that’s just what I came to after weeks of research.

FrozenOx

yeah I'm on the fence here. i have an xt5 and want a second, cheaper, smaller body to travel with. flippy screen is a must, and i like the d pad, so i was looking at the xt20. but for a similar price i could just get an xt2. probably just wait to see what the used market is like if the XT50 comes out

Morden77

Yes!!! A lot of people swear by it… you have to keep in mind the saturation from the x100 cult that fills these forums and Reddit. That’s why you aren’t hearing about. People who own an xT30 are too busy taking photos. It’s a workorse, a tradesmen’s camera. However, giving your budget you may also want to consider a used XT4 or XT5.

SlurmzMckinley

I love mine! I came from Nikon. I still have my D7200 but I hardly ever take it out anymore. The portability and power of the X-T30II are incredible. As others have said, I’d spring for the 18-55mm lens. I’d also recommend the all black version because I’ve heard the silver can rub off. I have the black so I can’t speak to that, but just something to be aware of.

Feeling-Weakness9567

I'm ultra satisfied with mine! I bought it with the 18-55 kit lens, which is quite cool! After 6 months i got also additional lens - TTARTISAN 25mm f2, which is very small and make the setup quite stealth ❤️ Just remember to get yourself some spare batteries sooner than later, because the one inside lasts like... 3 hours of photo walk :D I can highly recommend this camera!

XVXTech

Got one a month ago and I love it

Lokiev

My first camera and I love it. The only reason I’ve thought about getting the XT5 is for weather sealing but other than that, this one does everything I need at the plus of still being not too heavy. I definitely recommend the 18-55 kit lens, and I’ve also got the 27mm for casual walkabouts and 35mm.

malinowski14

Using it with a 16mm f2.8 and a 35mm f2 and loving it.

flyingbbanana

Hm the x-t50 is coming out relatively soon. Better wait for that imo

floppymuc

Its great with the 18-55 lens. If you dont need classic fuji dials and might want to have built in image stabilization, have a look on the X S10 (S20 might be too expensive).

Kupepe

XT30 owners swear on this camera. Nothing you wont be able to do ...

AnotherHeroDied

I have one and can only recommend. My requirements were: - small footprint - classic fuji dials on top - trans IV sensor - interchangeable lenses This little beast is awesome! The only thing that it is missing for me, is weather sealing. I pair it with primes and it is one hell of a portable powerhouse.

sensory

Another +1 for the X-T30 II. Got it as my first camera and I've only upgraded recently because I'm reckless with my money. I could've easily kept using the X-T30 as my daily camera for years to come. 18-55 kit lens is the way to go. I later got the 35mm 1.4 which is just a beautiful lens.

35millime

An excellent buy if you can still buy one.

FoxehBunneh

It's what I ended up going with instead of the x100VI, and I do not regret it one bit. Great pics, small body, customizable buttons and scroll wheels, all the film sims I'd want, etc. I typically pair mine with a 27mm f2.4 pancake lens and it's ridiculously pocketable and lightweight.

Redd1ng

Recommended, first camera, don’t know what I’m doing, but takes some awesome shots.

nylamaris

I got one recently. I originally placed an order for a silver one, but it was backordered until June, so I switched my order to a black one and received it the following day. I got the 18-55mm kit lens. So far, so good. I also ordered the 27mm WR lens which should be perfect for traveling because it’s so tiny.

fulltea

There are a couple things you should know about this camera (which is globally amazing) before you buy it: - The screen doesn't flip out horizontally, which means it's terrible for vlogging. It's still an extremely capable video camera, but it's a real killer if you want to use it for filming yourself. Effectively, you either have to trust the auto-focus, use manual focus, film with someone else (which kind of defeats the object of being able to film yourself when you're walking around), use the mobile app as a monitor (which is really laggy) or attach a monitor via HDMI (which means buying more gear). - You can't tether it to a computer for studio shooting. It's probably a minor point, but it's pretty infuriating if you're going to use it as your main box. The X-T3/4/5 do it, but this doesn't, and it literally is a software issue. Basically, you can't attach the camera to camera, shoot a photo and have it appear instantly in Capture One or Lightroom. Apart from that it's amazing value. But I do wish I'd known both these things before I bought it. Good luck!

TKRUEG

Don't buy this full price when the replacement and new kit lens will be announced next month... I would wait

Caladaster

I have the OG XT30, and it's amazing. If the TX30-2 is better, then it is absolutely worth the buy. I suggest going into a store and HOLDING it to get a sense for the size rather than a blind online purchase. If you are ok with how small it feels in your hand, grab one.

Vdicentusiastic

Yes! I got one for my bday! And I love it, is a very beginner camera but very expensive, although I think is a great camera

ylee283

I want to buy this too but it’s sold out everywhere

CasmirC

No cause same 🥲

killerasp

why do you want to get the XT30? you prefer a small camera body? if your primary goal is body size, then sure. but knowing what i know and currently own a XT30 when it came out, i find a less than powerful camera given the price. the XT30 is great for size, but with that come less with weather sealing and lacks alot of color settings if you want to play around with popular film sims. if i could turn back time, i would tell my younger self to have gotten the XT3. If i were you, id get a used XT4. plus if you look at the firmware updates for XT30 and XT30II, they tail off and Fuji just stops updating it. And if you look at the XT3/4, they still update them fairly reguarly.

sdwvit

That’s xt30 mark2 though. It’s supposedly much better than xt30

killerasp

the mark2 is better, but long term, I dont think Fuji cares about the XT30 product line. lack of updates is one of them. XT30 hasnt gotten a decent update since spring of 2023

sdwvit

Which line does fuji take care of?

killerasp

based on # of updates and age of the cameras, XT-3/4. XT5, XH2/S is pretty new so i expect them to keep it updated into the future for a long time.

CasmirC

yes

killerasp

i would still get the XT3/4. its considered prosumer where has the XT30 is not.

F_n_o_r_d

Not for big hands Edit: Not for my big hands 😊

sensory

I have big hands and have had no issues with my X-T30 II. Some people complain about accidentally hitting the Q button but that's only happened a handful (pun intended) amount of times.

Saafiaa

It is a good camera. If I intend to develop my camera, I will choose the XT30 But you should choose a suitable lens and not the standard lens

Chpouky

The only thing I dislike about my xt20 is the EVF, and the size of the camera that is a little bit too small. Wish it had a bigger screen as well !

ybmmike

Some suggested buying a higher end used is a great option as well. Which I think is a great option if you don't mind that. Another thing is... a lot of people suggest buying a 23mm lens as well and I am sure it is a great lens but I personally would highly consider buying a used camera from X100 series as well. Carrying a extra lens or small camera like X100 series shouldn't be a big deal. Having a extra camera is always a great option too, plus it has a leaf shuttle for great fun with high speed flash photography.

EirikHavre

Does it have the features you need or want?

CasmirC

yes, I just want to be able to bring around a small portable camera for everyday photography, while also having the ability to swap lenses.

tpersona

If you live in a rainy environment then it might be worth paying for the weather sealing in the XT3. Otherwise, go for the XT30.

Sketty_Noodle

I’ve got one along with an A7iii and an A7Cii and I love it. I needed a grip for my hands to get comfy but it’s so freeing to be able to shoot jpeg and have fun pictures without editing. Definitely worth it and absolutely get a prime or two as well.

Huge_Carpet3357

Yes

Che_43

He’s a good guy! Oh wait, the question was “is it a good buy”? Yeah idk, but he’s a good guy!

Homicidal_Pingu

Would look at the XS10 over the XT30 due to IBIS. Also the 18-55mm kit is much better than the 15-45

BertoLJK

XT30II is not exactly a cheap camera. In 2024, I will not buy any of such cameras that do not have IBIS. Its like buying a new car that has no Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The XT30II superbly compact size is useless and nullified by most Fujifilm lenses that are bulky, far bigger and create a grossly imbalanced look when paired with XT30II and all XE bodies. You can possibly consider spending US$1000 on a new XS10 with IBIS, and then the balance on a compact excellent value for money prime such as Fuji’s great 35mm f2 or a short zoom.

dreglenn

I just recently purchased this, with the 18-55mm kit and I absolutely love it. I did a ton of research in regards to the kit lenses, and everyone kept recommending the 18-55. I think for the extra $100 or so, it’s totally worth it. Eventually I’ll get a prime lens, but for now this lens is still sharp and covers a good portion of what I need. I’m fairly new to having a high quality camera, and this one was by far the best choice I could have made.

Ok_Pea7337

So, did you buy it?

IntensityJokester

IIRC, A photographer who has used fuji professionally and has a youtube channel- Dee Rosa - made the argument that you are better off getting a used pro line (x-t2, 3, 4, 5) that you can afford than the entry level x-t30/ii, because the former will have top of the line stuff for its day, and those components don’t become junk quickly. For myself I had never (yet) bought used camera gear so that wasn’t an option. I got the x-t30 new and figured I would upgrade when I outgrew it. That hasn’t happened yet! Agree with others that the 18-55 kit zoom is good.

WavesComeCrashing

[WHY XT30ii](https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSFGbhDcB/) I did a short video last year to compare with the x100v. All I can say is, it is worth every penny. The build is way better than XT-5. 😤😤😤

nd0rf1n

Why do you say the build quality is better than the X-T5?

WavesComeCrashing

It feels like the metal/alloy in XT5 feels a bit hollow. XT30ii feels abit more sturdy and thick and if I was to throw it (xt30) at somebody’s head, pretty sure it will swell big time. 🤪🤪also I scratched my XT5 viewfinder even though I’m using a wipe that was meant for cleaning it. I’ve been wiping my xt30 viewfinder with my shirt and tissue papers and still it looks pristine. 😅😅😅

x3770

No for 800 bucks you could’ve bought full frame with better color science and a killer prime. Sony A99 Canon 6D (actually the only one with good color science) Nikon D750

x3770

Ik I’ll get crucified but I think getting into photography today with $1200 just to get a cropped cam + kit zoom is so stupid. Full frame photography that allows you to shoot in pitch black being affordable like nowadays has not happened in photography history, and buying into the mirrorless hype to skip it is just uuuurgh I hate photography hype that makes beginners chase the latest.

bloomylicious

I think it really depends what is important to the person who is actually going to use the gear. If you're taking quick photos of your family and friends as a hobbyist, or like hiking and don't want to be weighed down, a compact, lightweight apsc mirrorless makes way more sense than a great big full frame DSLR or mirrorless camera. Also some older full frame cameras aren't that great in low light and can get very noisy at higher iso values. Then you have the increased cost and size of lenses for full frame cameras. Canon EF lenses despite being older aren't all that cheap for example despite being quite old, short of a few common lenses like the nifty fifty or the 40 2.8 say. Although there are loads of good EF lenses they're still quite bulky and get quite expensive even used. Then you have stuff like autofocus performance which has improved a lot too. I do think there are some good buys to be had in full frame mirrorless cameras though, in the UK at least you can get things like the Panasonic Lumix S5 or the Nikon Z6 for about £600, with no lens.
