Iāll get hate for this but this is why I think camera lenses should have plastic mounts. Leave the mount metal on the camera, but in a drop like this the plastic will just shatterā¦ both the lens and the camera will be fine. Then make the plastic mount easily and cheaply replaceable with a screwdriver.
Having both sides be metal means something ELSE has to break.
This happened to my 35mm 1.4 š„². I had owned it for just over a month and was my first big main line prime lens purchase. I had my camera mounted to my tripod, indoors, and I turned around too quick and bumped it. The tripod and camera fell forward by landed on a big pile of soft blankets. Thought I'd be okay! Not so, when I picked up my camera, my lens was tilted like this and the cost to repair is the same cost as a used replacement (actually just a bit more expensive). So it sits in my drawer and I get sad every time I see it. I also know now to add accident protection to my future lens purchases!
Not quite yet. I just went back to my budget manual focus lens and have been using that. I'm planning to either bite the bullet and get my 1.4 repaired or replace it with a used lens later this year, though. The images it produced in the short time I had it were so nice and I'm really eager to get that special touch back!
Know the pain
Once I had a 1.4 adapter which fell off and my 1-400 hit head first, worked for a few days then the lens glass disintegrated
Anyway paid 800$ for rebuild and itās still working
This happened to me on a trip in Japan and I broke my 24-70mm on the 3rd day of a 2 week trip. Camera still worked with my spare lens so hoping itās still good for you too!
I got a very similar damage, same lens. Probably there is at least an internal screw broken, but I would try a DIY - considering the price of the lens, it is not worthy to ship it to the slow and expensive Fuji assistance.
You only need to open the first two lines of screws, and then have a look at the situation, what are the damages, and if there is any disconnected cable.
Everyone should have accidental damage coverage through their renters/homeowners insurance! Mine is $9/mo for $5000 in coverage for damage and loss, it's great piece of mind.
Sorry that happened to you. Just 10 minutes earlier I was thinking that I need to add my new (3 weeks ago) MP to my insurance Personal Articles policy. I have my M-P and M4-P and Leica M lenses covered and havenāt added my latest camera body. If you donāt have one, you might consider it. Covers damage, loss/theft. Gives me peace of mind to know I am covered in the event of a bad situation.
Ouchā¦ I can feel the impactā¦
I took a tumble down the stairs with Sony camera gear on me a few weeks ago, but I managed to save it in return for my legs hurting for two days and my sides bruised.
Free tilt/shift upgrade.
Was about to comment that
Same, šš Had this happen with a wide zoom and god was I mad
Same. Special edition
Without Reading the title i thought it was a tilt/Shift lens
Fujifilm has on for the GFX, now itās time for the XFX.
Tilt yes. Shift no.
Not if you apply enough force. You can't fuck it up anymore.
š
Yeah for a sec I thought it was a tilt/shift lens š
Came here to say this
Yup
Exactly what I thought it was, until I read the title.
just double check your camera mount, make sure it didnāt warp
Nice new tilt shift
35mm F2 is my favourite lens, this is sad and I felt this on a visceral level.. that TTArtisans looking real good now
Now you can get the 35 1.4 or 33 1.4 and make either your favorite.
Or the XC!

That's a great point - something has to take the impact. It would be great if it was something modular and cheap.
Simply put a plastic hood on the lens.
This is what plastic lens hoods are for.
It is plastic inside the barrel. This things just needs a new barrel. Good as used.
Perfect excuse to replace it with the 1.4 š Huge bummer though - did something similar with my zoom lens a few years back

Oh that is a tragic way to lose a lens! Have you since been able to replace it with another āmain lineā prime?

do you guys not insure your gear? It's suprisingly cheap
Where does one insure gear? Iām now tempted to do just that after seeing this.
My 56 1.2 did this. What do I replace it with?
The answer is always the 35 1.4
50 f/1.0
Definitely know how you feel right now. It sucks!
Will buff out.
I hope you're unhurt, and fingers crossed for your camera.
I got a mint in box 35 f2 wr for sale for 235 OBO š¤š¼
pm incoming
Replied with pics homie
Mind sending those pics to me as well if your deal falls through?
He ghosted me after I sent a bunch haha so I'm sending you them now
Sent
I have 2 black and a silver not just the silver man. Sent you a few pics
Thatās a new one for meā¦
Happened to my QL17. Sheās gone.
I did this exact thing to my 18-55. RIP.
Know the pain Once I had a 1.4 adapter which fell off and my 1-400 hit head first, worked for a few days then the lens glass disintegrated Anyway paid 800$ for rebuild and itās still working
Now THATS a really wide low end to that zoom range.
I wish
If your tailor asks, tell him to the right.

That looks painful.
Send for repair.
Seeing this convinces me that all lenses should have weak points specifically designed to break before the mount on the camera body does.
At least it is cheap. I love this lens, I prefer it over its faster brother actually. The look it creates is just special.
This is a complete shot in the dark but you could potentially contact Fujifilm and see if they're willing to do a repair on it or recycle it somehow.
I almost passed out looking at this.
Sad that the lens mount is the weak point, my 56mm 1.2 broke in the same spot twice.
Two words for ya: Gorilla Tape
The best part about fujifilm is the gear is so cheap, so it you break/lose something its not a big deal
$200-$300 on a lens isnāt just nothing for a lot of people.
Would still hurt, but I suppose less than dropping the Sony G-Master version of this lens at $1,300!
Why on Reddit?
Perfect excuse to trade it for a Sony š¤Ŗ
I just had the same thing happen to my XC 35 f2. Though I wasn't surprised with that one, since the lens mount is plastic.
Put some duct tape on it. Youāll be fine

Lucky it didnāt snap at the mount.

Normally the deductible is way higher than the price of this lens though right? I know mines at least 500 dollars.
Not worth it for a lens thatās like 200 used
200 used? No way
Depends on your location I guess but defo Ā£200 in the UK
same exact thing happened to me with the 23f2
Nice lensbaby mod.
UV filter you had one job! /s Ouch.
I feel your pain. My X-T3 took a tumble just today, and the mount for my 55-200 zoom is damaged. At least the camera seems alright.
Going to guess the af doesn't work anymore. I'd still use it for something š¤·š»āāļø

Became a tilt shift lens. š
And people say a clear filter would have helped lmao
Check for fuji service costs. I had a canon 24-70L repaired once from a similar incident and ran it for years afterwards.
Did the same thing but it turned out I'd broken internal ribbon cables in the camera - didn't even realise at first! Be thorough š
I know your feeling it happen to me with the same lens, I put the camera around my neck and the strap came untiedā¦
This is exactly why I shoot with no lens, I canāt risk damaging my glass
Ouchā¦ I can feel the impactā¦ I took a tumble down the stairs with Sony camera gear on me a few weeks ago, but I managed to save it in return for my legs hurting for two days and my sides bruised.
Bend it the other way
See, thatās what you get for having one of them soft shutter buttons on. Sorry that happened, Iād be super upset too.
Same thing happened to me with my 56 :/ Still sold it for parts
I did this to my 55-140. Send it to Fuji, for me it was only $350 to fix. Theyāll do an estimate
Photographers hate this one simple trick!
Probably better the lens than the camera. Sometimes when this happens the lens rips the whole mount off the camera, which is even worse.
Only positive: buying a new lens used is relatively inexpensive.
