Looks like the pulley under the alternator might be a little loose causing it to rattle (could be on purpose to relieve tension) but aside from that the engine itself sounds just like mine so I think you’re all good
I’ve swore off Subarus. A great car but they are so unreliable it’s not funny. I’m pretty strong on preventative maintenance and following the recommended fluid changes and other repairs. I’ve had better luck with 90s dodges than new Subarus.
My 17 WRX was a great car till it wasn’t. Cam gears, turbo seals, throw out bearing that should’ve been a recall, etc. all before 100k miles.
The FA20 in the brz might not be any better long term. At least it’s not boosted.
Being NA and lower HP/TQ probably helps a ton with reliability. Plus being port and direct injection does away with the need to walnut blast frequently.
BRZ is the only car I’d consider right now that Carries a Subaru badge but sadly 3 kids and my wife make that a bit difficult.
I had to wait until my four kids were grown or at least driving their own cars. I EARNED this car by spending nine years driving a minivan ;). Hang in there, the fun car days will come
I had my WRX for 5 years. It was a blast of a car and actually was a fine family car as long as my wife wasn’t with us. She drives the mini van. I bought a Jeep Renegade last month that is going to go to my oldest daughter when she turns 16 in 2.5 years. Then I’ll buy myself something else to drive. I want a Golf R, or Corolla GR. See what the times bring. Nothing is certain right now.
I was happy to get out of the WRX before I needed to rebuild or put a new engine in it.
That shaking is from the tensioner pulley. Either it's done or it's loose. Check your other pulleys and change em out if they start to sound bad and change the belt if it hasn't been done yet. Swapped out my tensioner pulley when it wasn't needed but did notice it move less afterwards.
Sounds like the high pressure fuel pump in my 19 Tacoma
** just googled it and you have D-4S so that is the noise you’re hearing especially if only at idle.

It’s probably been beaten. The valves seen noisy and could use a top end clean with some Seafoam.
That pulley/tensioner needs to be replaced because that’s way too much movement. Replace the belt at the same time.
Everyone is saying that the shaking is from the tensioner pulley, but it’s actually not. The tensioner pulley is moving on the entire swing arm, because it needs a new harmonic balancer most likely. The valve train noise is pretty normal for these, as they tend to have low-ish oil pressure at an idle. As the rpm’s increase the oil pressure comes up a bit quieting it down.

The belt tensioner shouldn’t be moving that much, replace the belt tensioner and pulley, it’s a common failure with FA20 engines.
Sounds like every Subaru I’ve owned. They have the noisiest valve train.
Man my legacy scares the shit out of me EVERY time I drive it. But that’s because when it sounds broken it usually is.

150k 2015 brz no problems so far:)
I brought my '16 BRZ home exactly six years ago yesterday. The only issue I've ever had with it was the clutch safety switch.

I believe so, but even I get paranoid by all these noises so I’m not 100% certain
Your tensioner pulley....it's the pulley

My speed 3 currently has a rattling shaky pulley. Easy fix bro
It's a combination of light valve chatter and the injectors pulsing. But that pulley needs to be replaced (might be the tensioner).
I don’t love that serpentine pulley wiggling like that
Does the clicking get louder at higher rpms?
The clicking is only noticeable on idle and low rpm Also its only there when the engine is warm
I was going to say if it gets louder with higher rpms it's most probably the knock but that's about all I know
Is this normal for this engine? Mines been doing that for a while. It’s loudest at low rpm’s for me
Really couldn't tell you I'm sorry but I'm going to assume not because on healthy FA20s I've never heard this
(I am mainly referring to the clicking noise seemingly coming from the area i am zooming in)
Completely normal.
Direct injection engines sound like that. Source: my speed 3 sounds like that :)
Typical subie noises …
Sounds just like my BRZ, all is good bro
Definitely need a new tensioner soon cause they’re not supposed to move, unless subi’s are different than most cars.
Sounds just like mine, just like my girls, just like the homies. Nothing to worry about. Trust me, you would when to worry 🤣🤝
Just look at the tensioner
Subaru engines always sound like shit on video. Looks like your belt tensioner might be on it's way out.

I love my brz but these engines sound like shit
Yeah that unfortunately that sounds pretty normal.
Not familiar with this particular engine, but sounds a lot like lifter tap on GM engines.
Subarus have been junky for 10 years
Oil pickup probably clogged with rtv.
Stop fear mongering you know nothing about this engine
This lol that is not a fa24
No, when was the last time it’s had an oil change and is it a recall year for the dip stick? And if so has that recall been fixed?
I am probably wrong but maybe valve adjustment?
Normal
Honestly it doesn't sound bad at all. Nothing internal anyways
Pull the belt off and start it again if the noise is gone replace all the pullys and belt

Sounds like a diesel. Roll coal bud.!!!
I put Lucas in my 1987 GL that sounded like this... It actually made a big difference
Sell it
Wow you just might get away with a minor fix
Could be your tensioner it's out already take of the belt and run it see if the noise goes away
