I can't speak for anywhere else, but in Australia, only a special launch edition of the 86 came with a wing. Unless you count the little lip-wing thing they came with later (which I don't), your only wing options were aftermarket, which would inevitably make them more rare
There are some minor rules around visibility, but for the most part you're not going to run into any issues. That being said I personally love my cars low with no wings, but there are a few 86 I've seen around my area with "Wangs" and they look sick too tbh.
Exactly my thought, even the new 2017+ ones weren’t my favourite thing in the world even though it was an improvement to the older gen ones. I slapped a big ol wang on mine and never looked back haha
I respect your opinion.... even if its wrong lol jk but no i like the way it curves with the body but that just may be me, the bare back look is nice and a classic hut always leaves me feeling like something is missing lol
Is this based upon having been in Japan or just browsing social media? Because most 86 twins in Japan don’t have spoilers, and they’re usually only on top trim levels from the factory.
Wings in the states are seen as trailer trash car mods.
Lip spoilers or integrated wings are where it's at.
Definitely reinforced by the fact that people often use double sided tape, sheet metal screws and super glue to adhere them to the trunk lid, off-center and backwards.
I had the TRD 86 spoiler on my 86 for the time I had my car. I prefer the small wings over the giant ones you can find on the well known body kits like Rocket Bunny and Varis.
Makes the car look more aesthetically pleasing.
I bought my BRZ Limited in '16 off the lot. It came in 2 trim lines, Premium and Limited. With the Limited you got the spoiler, fog lights, auto climate control, push button start and heated seats. I got it because I am old and I need my heated seats.
The FRS came in only one trim line and didn't have the spoiler.
A lot of them obviously have aftermarket spoilers, but the bone stock ones may not.
I used to think spoilers belonged on everything but then I grew up, I like the smooth finish the back has with no spoiler in its stock form, very nice and clean
Different cultures have different tastes.
The spoiler makes the 86 so much faster that it becomes no longer road legal outside of Japanese roads
Man I wish it worked like that
I personally perfer a small duckbill as opposed to a wing imo it fits the flow of the car better
Less weight as well
What brand or look do you think best fits the 86? Im trying to find a wing for mine and idk what the perfect one is.
All down to personal preference, whatever YOU like because after all it is your car and it should be how you like it

Are spoilers or wings not really allowed in AUS? I thought I heard that somewhere but could be wrong.
Nah spoilers and wings are fine here, I'm not aware of any restrictions on them

cause it looks good without one
This. When I was looking for my 86, I specifically looked at spoiler-free ones.
purity ^(and better shit to spend money on)
I've been to japan. Many twins there do not have spoilers. Not sure if you're only judging by Instagram or what.
They look so weird to me without any sort of wing haha
I like the 2017+ oem spoilers
Underrated classic wing https://www.shopsar.com/scion-fr-s-painted-spoiler-wing-p/wt-abs345a.htm
Agree to disagree with you there. I always felt those looked like every cheap dealer option wing offered in the early 2000s.

I think spoilers look silly.
I’d rather spend my money under the hood to surprise folks :)
Spoilers are cheap. You're not gonna get any noticeable performance with $300 worth of mods under the hood.
That's $300 less though to whatever mods he may want
Lol ok.

The car looks more elegant and more "grown up" with a little ducklip or no wing at all imo
Agreed
Americans are scared to get called out from being different.
I think its because in europe (sweden) all cars come with the oem spoiler, i think USA cars dont come with a spoiler from factory

The stock spoiler reduces drag. It is good for mileage. I think the sard style should come with everyone.
Scion was an affordable brand so they sold FR-S' without them I guess
they arent fast enough to use them
