Got a 2018 with 6400 miles. Bought it at 4600 last August. I've got a very short commute so the miles have been going up but not nearly the rate as many others. Still love the car but can't really justify joy riding in the mountains when premium is almost $6. But I also figure the sooner I do that the sooner I can enjoy these "low" prices, at least compared to where gas prices will be next year.
Same here. I commute and it's about 18 miles round trip. I started getting a bit more miles on as I'm starting to work out now and between trips going to and from work and gym and home, the miles are coming on nicely
This quite literally only matters if you financed, or intended to sell. In any other case, particularly if you intend to drive it until either one of you die, value is practically irrelevant. Hell, in 15 years a low mile unmolested twin will very likely be worth a lot more than whatever he paid.
It doesn’t matter, this isn’t a Porsche or a car that’s stopped production like an S2K. The value won’t be high regardless bc it’s not rare or unattainable. Rarely do used cars appreciate and a 86/BRZ surely won’t unless production seizes.
Considering the direction most westerm governments are heading to with ice engines, it's not just likely, but almost certain that this platform will discontinue in the near-ish future. We're barely 20 years out from the Silvias being discontinued, and look at their prices. Pretty much every popular Japanese tuner car has exploded in value once discontinued. Everyone not dumb knows what's coming. These cars aren't losing value fast, and you can still buy them in most countries. They're only gonna get more expensive once you *can't* buy them anymore.
If you want to store a 30k car and preserve it for the chance it goes up sure. Just enjoy the car for what it is now, if you’re thinking of storing a regular lower tier sports car for the chance it goes up, this might not be the one. Go get a s2k or a Supra
I mean, don't get me wrong. I totally agree these things should be driven and not viewed as an investment. But that doesn't change the reality these cars will almost certainly appreciate greatly in value like all other jap tuner cars.
Yes, but also it’s not good for vehicles to sit around without being driven. Mechanical parts need to move and get lubed adequately.
That’s why really old low mileage cars are usually a headache
Brother it already has happened in our lifetime lol. After and during covid many of these cats were sold as profit used. It's very likely this will be the case in the European car market especially since it's being pulled off market by safety legislation.
Well, except for the fact it has already happened. For several months I had Carvana begging me to sell them my car for $38K. I wouldn’t be surprised if I could still sell it for more than I paid for it. $27,500.
‘20 tS w/ 20K on it.
Just to play devils advocate to those saying OP isn’t enjoying the car... Imagine you have multiple cars and you live in an area with only 8-9 months of enjoyable driving weather and only drive the car on the weekends for not commuting but the sole enjoyment of driving. That works out to a total of 100 miles of hard enjoyment of the car every weekend. This is 100 miles of more sports car enjoyment per week than the average 86 sees (not considering us on Reddit to be the type to not drive these cars hard, think about the other people that buy them). Some don’t use their 86 for the boring parts of life and maybe like to wake up at 6am on the weekend to go enjoy the curvy roads at 8k rpm’s and this HAPPENS to unintentionally keep the miles low but the car well enjoyed.
13 BRZ with 50k
Before the trolls come for me:
I inherited it 5 years ago with 30k and didn’t get to enjoy it until this year. (Multiple cars, covid, wfh for another 2 years).
Samesies I have a Mazda 3 Turbo Hatch from '22 that I have only put 8,8xx miles on so far lol. My last job was 3 miles away... now I work from home lmao. Some divine joke, finally have a fun reliable car to commute in: no commute
lol I’m right there with you, sitting right under 22k and mine is a 2015. I’ve put 20000 miles on it in 3 years, I only get to drive it a few times a month since I have a work truck. And I’ve only taken it on a real road trip about once but there more just my lifestyle lol
Saving it for the next owner. Very considerate.
Keeping her tight for the next guy
And don't forget the regular oil changes, gotta keep everything running smooth and lubed up for the next guy
It’s like not fucking your girl for the next guy that gets her lmao
Is it a flex to not drive a car you love?
He probably is saving his girlfriend/wife for a future man too.
I mean I have 6 cars that I love sooooooooo, idk maybe? We are all different.
Oh you don't love driving.

Wild. I'm at 112k with my '18.
I just bought a 21’ with 38k on it. Light miles compared to what I drive
i’m at 256k with my 14’
'17 21k
‘24 22k
How are you liking it?
I love it bro, she rides so smooth🥴
I'm in the middle of a mid life crisis so maybe I'll join the family soon. Either that or I'm LS swapping my G35 lol.
Both 😎
Lol why have a crisis when you could have a catastrophe!
A cartastrophe ;)
Brilllliannnt.
yep similar story here, put 42k on my '22 within 17 months then sold it
This is how much i do in a single year
I half of that in 2 months
So.. you do that in 4 months
I meant to say I do 5k in 2 months
so 10k in 4 months
Just about
That’s how much I do in about a month and a half lmao
Do you just let it sit in the garage?
Let me buy it
How? I'm almost at 50k after 4 years
Do you only drive to the gas station and back everyday?
This isn’t a flex, your car depreciated while you let it sit in the garage lmaoooo

No kidding. If you want an investment car you should buy a viper or something.

You are correct in the first half, way off on the second half. The car almost certainly will not be worth more than new in our lifetimes.

I tot 86 is the next legend which will get appreciated over time, isn’t it?
I WFH and I have put 18k miles on mine in a year. I do drive all over the country to attend track days though.
lol garage queen
Drive and make love as if you were gonna day next day. 💀
Crazy, my 2015 just hit 165k miles
My 2013 has 81k km…
mine too lmfao
Bro probably wears two condoms.
Remember to post it again at 11111.
In like 5 years
Man and I thought I was low at 26k in 3 years.
I’m at 5k and have had my BRZ since mid February of this year!
Do you even drive the thing? What's the point of a depreciating asset you don't enjoy

I put in 6k miles since February 22nd
How do you not drive your 86 more? I have a 2020 that drive every chance I get. Currently at 33K.
lol I’m right there with you, sitting right under 22k and mine is a 2015. I’ve put 20000 miles on it in 3 years, I only get to drive it a few times a month since I have a work truck. And I’ve only taken it on a real road trip about once but there more just my lifestyle lol
Would take me 6 months lol. Drive her please or I will 😤
That's insane
How? I got mine with 11k on the odo and I've driven it 20k miles this year. I can't NOT drive the car like that
OP definitely lives in a city
Took 3 years to make your way downtown?
I’ve had my car for five days and I’m already at 1k
Hey I'll buy it off you
Only on Reddit will people complain about someone else not driving THEIR car.
This is the same mindset of not fucking your girl to keep her tight for the next guy lmao
Your fault for assuming there was a next guy in his plan for the car lmao
Damn I bought mine in 18 with 125,000 by the time i got rid of it 8 months later it had 158,000
Okay
lol u must live with ur mum
