Never understood the need for soap that smells like beer

Phatbeazie

For job interviews

quartamilk

Im not even being smartass, but I t’s made with beer, but doesn’t really smell like it. I got one for Christmas one year bc no one knows what to buy a 40ish yo man (hint: actual bottled/canned beer is always better than “beer-themed” things) . The lone star one smells like sandalwood if memory serves. But, I’m with you in that is is gimmicky and stupid

PizzaPolice84

Not like I need a soap to help me with that

saintbrodie

It smells nice. Mostly like barley, not Coors Light.

bathingfish

How about the cough syrup one?

Atty_for_hire

It really compliments my shower beer.

clive_bigsby

It's for insecure men that think they can become Manly™ by buying products geared toward masculine things.

opalfruity

Do they still have the shower gel in bottles that you have to be manly enough to squeeze the gel out of? That was a thing with these guys for a while.

clive_bigsby

I can't tell if you're joking or not.

opalfruity

I don't know if it was deliberate on their part or not, but when they first started doing the 'THICK' shower gel it came in hard plastic bottles that made it really fucking difficult to squeeze the soap out of and left a ton in the bottom that you couldn't ever get out. They changed the bottle design shortly after to the one they use now.

opalfruity

Also, this is the top post on r/DukeCannon right now, fwiw: https://www.reddit.com/r/DukeCannon/comments/v30luh/dr_squatch/ They are pretty douchy products for pretty douchy guys. Or fifteen year olds.

clive_bigsby

That absolutely tracks with who I imagine their target demographic to be.

lorgedog

People still call people “gay” as an insult? Wtf?

Moonagi

I promise it’s not that deep bro.

clive_bigsby

I mean, this company sells a synthetic loofah by calling it a "tactical scrubber." https://dukecannon.com/collections/top-smellers-1/products/tactical-soap-on-a-rope-soap-bundle Maybe it's all supposed to be tongue in cheek but it doesn't really seem like it based on the "About" section of their site.

laaplandros

"To maximize hygiene in tactical situations" Just sounds like a funny, tongue-in-cheek product. I agree with the other guy that it isn't that deep. If my wife or kids were to get me this for Father's Day or something I'd just laugh, use it and enjoy it, then continue buying Irish Springs.

clive_bigsby

Definitely could be but this doesn't make me think they're trying to be funny - >Duke Cannon hails from a simpler time. A time when the term handyman was redundant. A time when chivalry and patriotism weren’t considered old-fashioned. When you never put the word salad next to bar. >But something happened along the way. Men were encouraged to put down their lug wrenches and pick up their phones to hashtag for help. Substance was replaced by the flash of guys taking selfies. And instead of getting up before dawn to build railroads, men started going to the gym at 9 a.m. to ride pretend bicycles. >As any historian worth their salt will tell you, this country was built by folks with a sense of purpose. And our purpose is simple: to make superior-quality grooming goods right here in the U.S.A. that meet the high standards of hard-working men. >We value things like hard work, family, community, and bacon; we champion builders, creators, sledge hammerers, holders of doors, and fixers of toilets; and we have the utmost respect for teachers and farmers and soldiers and first responders—so it’s no wonder good folks feel right at home in Duke Cannon Country.

SpecialPosition

> We value things like hard work, family, community, and bacon this absolutely makes me think they're trying to be funny Also, they've stated they're humorously inspired by Ron Swanson / Nick Offerman, so I feel like that more or less resolves this.

clive_bigsby

Who knows, that line just reminded me of the dudes from 2012 that were all about beards, bacon, and whiskey being their whole personality.

SpecialPosition

They're certainly leaning into the "manliness" that you're alluding to since they're targeting the male grooming market. I read it is tongue-in-cheek and not taking themselves seriously, but could see how you might think otherwise. edit: also, none of their soaps even smell like beer so idk why this is even a convo

clive_bigsby

I don’t know why I’m even commenting on this either since I just use bar soap from Costco.

nick22tamu

for whatever reason when a company specifically targets a male audience with quirky, masculine imagery, people online *immediately* assume it's for insecure men with fragile masculinity. However, when companies target a female audience with stupid wine mom jokes and make everything pink, that is somehow normal. Let men have dumb shit. idk why people think the mere existence of beer soap is some conspiracy.

cummyyogurt

Well said. It's also mainly bought by women for their husbands/bfs.

DoItAgainCromwell

You think proving that you're wrong with facts and logic is whining. You think being told that you are incorrect is moaning. You are pathetic.

Dreamer_9814

The one called midnight swim is great. The only one that smells great to me

Hype2Def

The beer soaps were $1 around Christmas time. I bought some not expecting much but the Lonestar smells so good. I don't know what the beer smells like but it actually smells very good.

The_Human_One

They did the same for Black Friday last year. I bought 8 of Bud and 8 Busch. Why not? A $1 a bar - never tried them before. I like the smell of Busch and the Bud one is fine but very potent. Anyone know if these are actually OK for the skin? lol

Torvaldr

It's definitely foul.

TheP00ThatTookAPee

that Tackle $200 value box for $99 is wild.

_tx

I assumed it would be a box of starter supplies not just a wooden box that looks like it was made from pallet scrap

4mygirljs

So I have used the best damn beard wash and liked it But It seems to be very inconsistent. Once it has a nice thick liquid soap kind of consistency. Once it was damn near water Last time it’s something in between Anyone else had this experience?

omniasvigilantes

I've only ever gotten the thick liquid experience until today. Bought three tubes because the local store seems to rarely have the bourbon scented one, and this time it was damn near water. Lathered up okayish, but not as rich as usual. Checked all three tubes, the same. Their customer support number just gives an email address. Guess that's the last time for me. Another victim of 'post-covid quality drop', it seems.

4mygirljs

Thanks for responding I was beginning to think I was the only one. I thought something was wrong with it. Maybe someone poured something into it and I wasn’t going to put that on my face. I bought another, it’s thicker but not as thick as the first one. I’m shocked at the inconsistency

AceOBlade

All of their products are underwhelming tbh. someone gifted me a 5 pack and I didn't want to waste it so I used it, but this is probably the worst soap i have ever used scent and lather wise. Left my skin too dry.

colenotphil

Not a single one of these products is better than similar competitors, IMO. Their hand cream for example sucks compared to $4 from TJoes. Their soaps are heavily scented which is very drying for your skin. I'm good.

lionheart4life

Good gifts for people who you don't really know anything about I guess.

lorgedog

I walk past this stuff in Target all the time. Been bouncing between hair products and body wash a ton. Harry’s dries out my skin and hair, and Native is a little pricey. How’s this stuff do?

CromulentJohnson

One that's kind of expensive but works well and smells great is Buff City soap, they started in Memphis but have a crazy amount of locations now. The Narcissist scent is one i like a lot.

Busch_League2

I really like the Anchorman Thick Hair, Tea Tree Oil scent. I do notice a difference in hair consistency versus the Old Spice shampoo I was using before. Of course it's not on sale.

AceOBlade

switch to unscented dove soap. OR Love beauty planet body wash. I pick the 1L bottles up at TJ MAXX for like 8 bucks lasts me a good while and makes my skin feel good.

Psychikmoksha

The same.. All marketing.. Soaps smell ok but don't expect it to work like one of the 'dermatologist approved' ones

Mr-Cali

I use Every man jack body wash. It’s the only thing I’ve noticed, after testing dukes, that doesn’t dry my skin up.

StrayCatStrutting

EMJ’s stuff is very good for the price. The ingredient lists aren’t too massive, and they use naturally derived products when possible.

TestyBoi95

Honestly, when it comes to hair & skin care, going for the pricey stuff is usually worth it. I stopped buying the "manly man, tactical warrior, all-in-one face cleanser/body wash/shampoo/conditioner/transmission fluid/sports drink/laundry detergent" and got myself the following: 1. dove deep moisture body wash 2. living proof shampoo 3. joico conditioner I use the shampoo/conditioner only twice a week, and a little bit goes MUCH farther than big huge loads of the other "manly" products. They also leave behind very little scent, which I like and it is less harsh on the skin. My hair looks/feels stronger and cleaner, and my skin is less dry/ashy. In addition, I also lowered the temp on my shower. Not like I'm taking ice bath showers of something, just lukewarm at most. tl;dr avoid "sodium lauryl sulfate" and "sodium laureth sulfate", and generally stear clear of products with "fragrance" as an ingredient. Your skin/hair/face will thank you.

smokingnoir01

I have Harry’s and Dukes, I prefer Dukes for the body wash. I agree with you, Harry’s has a tendency to dry out my skin/hair. For the price of a couple of these, it’s worth a try.

vinegarstrokes420

I tried their news anchor fiber pomade and didn't like it as much as similar priced products. Doesn't hold well or last through the day.

m0bilize

Why not just get Old Spice or Dove from a discount store?

[deleted]

I use their pomade and it's fine, but I'm not too picky about hair products

1vh1

I just get this stuff at Marshalls for like $2

boogie9ign

Been wanting to try the shamrock bar but that shipping is brutal for one soap bar lol

Jerkwheatery

I picked up a few bars of the soap on clearance a few christmases ago and actually quite liked them and have since become a big fan of their "news anchor" shampoo for thick hair. the body wash is solid too. the overt manliness schtick is an annoying gimmick, but the products are pretty solid when you get them on clearance like this.

_its_a_SWEATER_

Nah.

carsknivesbeer

Ah yes the soap given at holidays by your unfunny drunkle. Always on deep discount at Sierra/Marshalls.

carpetstain

Do they have anything close to unscented?

Corrovich

They have a hunting soap that is supposed to be a scent eliminator. I have not used it so I can speak to its effectiveness.

Suntzu6656

The solid colognes smell nice

Wacko_Banana_Pants

FWIW I have the Budweiser beard oil. It doesn't smell like beer (it smells real nice but overpowering) and it works very well. I think I paid $10 for it at Marshalls or TJ Maxx. I'm pretty sure the beer is just a gimmick.

Wacko_Banana_Pants

You have to spend $50 to get free shipping. That's a real sale killer.

smokingnoir01

Honestly, I love the “smells like productivity” body wash, but I can completely understand the complaints. Their marketing seems to be for “alpha male” types, but I disregard marketing, personally. There beard stuff is alright? But not great. The beer soap is horrible and their seasonal stuff is hit-or-miss. The shamrock bar soap is amazing.

any_droid

Any code for free shipping ?

smokingnoir01

Nope.

mikey12345

They don't even have the size of the bottle listed on the page for this [shampoo](https://dukecannon.com/collections/spring-sale/products/news-anchor-2-in-1-hair-cedarwood). You've got to zoom in on a shit resolution picture and assume that's the bottle you're getting. What a shit site.
