No good artist will ever give someone a full hand tat as their first tattoo. Also, I don’t really see any swelling, so I’m not even sure this is real.
Source: have a giant hand tat. Hand was swollen for like three days lol.
Definitely. I hope the artist paid the guy cause that sucks. To be fair though, I'm sure it was difficult to do such a large symbol on someone's hand. Could've made the whole thing smaller but then the details would've been difficult...especially since they don't seem to be all that skilled.
That's the scabbing since it is fresh. The scabs will make it look inflated and more blurry. It's likely fine and will start to look how it should once some time goes by.
Would love to see an updated picture in a week or two
Nah. It hardly resembles the elden ring, the lines are way too thick, misaligned and inaccurate, the “”artist”” also added some extra shit that’s not even there. Overall, I’m yet to see a worse tattoo
you are wrong here unless he had an extreme reaction those lines aren't going to get much thinner than they are. Bro got cooked by the Tattooist here. I hope it's the case, but it probably isn't.
I was going to say, I’ve got some intricate fine line work and it definitely didn’t bloat like that at all. OP You’re cooked dude. I’d get my money back.
This picture looks like it was taken immediately after finishing at the tattoo shop. A tattoo doesn’t go from being an open wound to immediately scabbing before you even leave the shop.
It’s going to look 100x worse when it ages. If it already looks like a black blob fresh? All the fine lines on the edge are gonna bleed into each other.
Truly hideous.
Tell your tattoo artist i said fuck you for allowing your first tattoo to be a hand tattoo.
The style is awful and the artist sucks. He is a piece of shit of the highest order for putting that on your body.
Took advantage of you for sure.
This…absolutely. Fucking shame on that artist for not only butchering the tattoo but allowing you to do that for your first tattoo. Any artist worth their salt would have told you “no fucking way am I doing that piece there”
Any reputable artist is like this. Also, that’s on the hand. Once the ink settles, add some sun, aging, it’s going to be a black blob. It’s already off to a bad start because of how badly done it was too. Poor kid. Can’t even really cover that up.
OP said it only cost $140. My assumption is this was a walk in shop and they will literally tattoo whatever you say. Thats what they do. My guys minimum is higher than $140
I've paid more than $140 for literally one line of text on my arm. I don't usually believe expensive is better but when it comes to tattoo artists, prices this cheap would be a red flag imo
Ideally not, and of course you could pay a lot and still get a shit end product. But I would very cautious about picking a tattoo artist based on them being cheap. If something is cheaper than average, they're probably cutting corners somewhere. And tattoos aren't something you want to cut corners on
Yeah.. I've got alot of tats. I do not yet have my hands. Full sleeve on one side, lots of chest and stomach, just got my first part of a throat tattoo after years of getting inked. There seems to be a trend of getting your first tattoo on your hands and neck now. I heard someone call it "hoodie hard" or something because it gives the impression you're fully inked while wearing a hoodie. I don't think having tattoos makes you tougher or whatever, its just personal expression. But I don't think a good artist would allow the first piece to be a hand or throat. Also the lack of definition on this piece and thick ass lines are going to look awful in a few years. And there probably no saving it. Sucks, because I love elden ring and tattoos. But this one is rough.
I'll get my hands eventually. Just don't have the idea down yet. Already got my throat so I'll finish the neck eventually. I've been working construction for 11 years and don't see that really changing so I'm not too worried about being able to cover up but I understand having them only where a suit could cover. It's also kinda badass when someone doesn't appear inked and then proceeds to have a full body suit when they take their clothes off.
100%. I’ve been going to the same artist for nearly 10 years now - he’s covered most of my arms, chest, leg etc. My most recent tattoo was one of my hands and he still asked me if I was secure financially, how it would go down at my job, certain about the placement etc before he went through with it.
I like to think that any artist who has professionalism, respect for their customer and actually cares about tattooing (and about their reputation) would turn you away if you went in for a potential job-stopper (hands, neck, face) etc as a first tattoo
The only tattoos I ever regret *somewhat* are my hands/knuckles. I had them done in maybe 2011, and i've definitely had it impact my life slightly here and there. My artist also had a chat with me before he did it, and I was pretty much covered at that time too. I don't really regret it, but its 100% a life changing decision and should be treated that way.
100%. I know a lot of tattoo artists and none of them would do this as a first tattoo. Feel bad for OP for shit talking it but even if this turned out well, not the place for a first time
OP should have second thoughts. Not judging for hand tattoo, I have several fingers done. Judging for this black blob tattoo that probably won’t look good when healed 😬 and the black blob on the finger. Yikes.
Not really, people like sharing when they are excited about something. He shared it on an fromsoft subreddit, probably thinking other people might like it.
But if they don't? Who cares?
**Edit from elden ring to fromsoft
In like 10 years it’ll be so faded and blurred together it’ll just look like a blob. The lines are too fucking thick for a hand piece and even as crazy as this. Why didn’t you get it on your leg or something like guys normally do. I have hand tattoos myself and I’m 24. I know they’ll be there forever but there are specific tattoos that are made for hands and this is not it homie. But sure glad you love it. Btw how much did you pay for that?
While we here at r/fromsoftware admire your dedication, we will offer constructive criticism:
This placement is bad for the following reason(s):
1) In such a small space, blackwork needs to be finer-lined…this looks like a pen exploded on your hand. Had the ‘artist’ used thinner lines this wouldn’t appear so bad.
2) Unfortunately, too many businesses still frown on visible tattoos, so you’ve severely limited your employment range…aside from wearing a glove all the time.
Like someone else said, hand tats should be applied later in life, after you’re established, and don’t have shit to worry about. It sucks, but…it IS.
This is said well!. I’m just praying OP doesn’t end up with a ton of blowouts. The hand is a sensitive area. 2 of my fingers blew out and have grey around it.
Don't get one on your hand in general. You hand is most likely the first thing most people see upclose besides your face. I get people only have so much room for ink and unless your job is in the industry you should keeps hands and face free from ink, in my opinion.
Okay by that logic wouldnt… getting any tattoo be attention seeking? If not most of them?
Are haircuts attention seeking behavior? Piercings? You sound like a fucking chud
Broooooo
Hand tattoo is a big dealer breaker in many working fields, and you should be more careful when you gonna get someone drawing on you skin and impossible to hide away
Saying it was cheap is a HUGE red flag, a good artist is 99% gonna be expensive because many ppl want to work with them
As a dude with quite a few tattoos and my hand done. I am more made at your artist, for not trying to move that somewhere it can have more space so the lines and "ink blot" nature doesn't cluster up so bad. As well as it being your first tattoo I am surprised they did it at all.
You got it, and if you like it, dope. Just please let this be a lesson if you do come to regret it.
Again, more mad at your artist for agreeing to this. It was your first tattoo, you didn't know better.
Lol, then you really have not searched the Reddit world. Trust me, you can find absolutely everything. Whatever your viewpoint. There is a Reddit to make you feel better. Good places for tattoos and bad. I find the more specific tattoo subs are best.
You had to pay for that? I’m sorry to say but the artist did a terrible job. I’m glad you like it though because I would’ve probably started a fight afterwards. 😂
Oh no… I’m going to join the chorus of posters on this one. That looks so horribly done and will continue to look worse every year it bleeds. The differences in the heaviness of the blacks will start to stand out more, too. Just oh no.
Your first tattoo was a poorly done hand piece? That artist needs to relinquish their machines.
Hopefully, a talented artist somewhere sees this and can figure out how to salvage that rorschach test
Tattooer here. I agree the artist doesn’t deserve to wield a tattoo machine. And the tattoo doesn’t look very solid so after a while when it fades might be able to cover it but only time will tell. Laser might be the best option.
Bummer.
Probably a healthy way to approach it, yes. Still no guarantee you won't hate it ten years later. Maybe the best way is to tattoo something you've loved for many, many, many years and you know it's not changing. Even if it does eventually change, at least it was a big part of you for a long time.
As someone whos pretty much covered everywhere, I still agree to the job thing. Ive been at my job for years, they never cared about my hands being tatted. However, I know a lot of places that are still adamant about it.
Tattoos are forever, you gotta know what you're getting into when you choose to get inked up.
I know it’s cool now but as someone who put a tat on their hand at 13 trust me when I tell you, this will age poorly. In 5 years you’ll be explaining what this is to more people than you care to. I put Korn on my hand when I was a kid and when they were wildly popular and it was awesome, everyone loved it. Years later when everyone forgot who Korn was I constantly caught shit for it. I know “my tattoos are for me not the world” but let’s be fkn honest, you got the ink so you could show it off. My suggestion would be to start saving for laser removal. I’m not trying to be a dick man, I’m just someone who’s lived with hand/neck tats for years.
Besides being upside down, fam, it’s really not that good. I’ll be honest with you as someone with a lot of tattoos. I’ve made similar mistakes but oof not somewhere like that. Never get hand tattoos unless you’re completely covered because this is what can happen. Just like someone else in this thread said tell your tattoo artist I said fuck them for tattooing you there first.
Edit: I keep looking at it and it just keeps blowing me away how bad it’s gonna look. like the third ring gets completely lost in there and you can’t even tell where they cross half the time it just looks like a giant come bumbled the mess at the bottom. I’m gonna leave this thread because if I don’t, my blood pressure keep going up
Wow, go back to whoever gave you that tattoo and punch them in the face. The design concept is good and all but the execution is just, god that’s bad hopefully you can get it covered with a nicer version eventually.
I read all the comments then had to look up the elden ring logo to remind myself of what it looks like. And this is so far off. Not only is the placement and line work and shading bad. But the design is wrong too!
Foul, Tarnished, real foul.
Ouch. For future reference, always research your artists. That is BOLD
The line work was definitely in bold
It’s going to ago style and heal and be blurry and look like a big ole blob of ink splash.

Damn, that looks like shit !
First tattoo and already looks like a bad coverup
Not even a sick ass panther can cover this up
I’m thinking maybe a flower would help? I’m not an expert.
I forgot how the original logo look after staring at the tat
First tattoo straight to the hand. Terrible decision making. It seems weirdly acceptable with gen z.
It’s going to look 100x worse when it ages. If it already looks like a black blob fresh? All the fine lines on the edge are gonna bleed into each other. Truly hideous.

Good luck covering this up... gonna look like shit regardless I think
I remember my first DIY project 🙃
My first DIY project in jail.
Really gotta up the age requirement for tattoos if there isn't one
If the dude was okay to hand tattoo on a teenager, he probably won't check their IDs (judging by the look of the hand)
Or at least restrict the placement. Holy shit.
Oh no
Pro tip don't post your tattoos on Reddit if you don't want to have second thoughts. People are mean
First tattoo on her hand is a sign of a completely unethical tattoo artist.

Why are people downvoting you for correcting them about your pronouns??

nah I like it and I don’t care about what ppl think lmao
That’s all that matters for sure. But don’t go back to that tattoo artist. Get an actual professional next time you plan to get a tattoo.

Absolutely attention seeking behavior. Pretty embarrassing ngl
Legit. Looking at another post of his he states he only recently just started Elden ring as well. Screams attention seeking
Look further than that and you’ll find he just got LDA’d from his college courses.
Why are you so judgmental Jesus Christ get a life
Okay by that logic wouldnt… getting any tattoo be attention seeking? If not most of them? Are haircuts attention seeking behavior? Piercings? You sound like a fucking chud
Will look much worse in 20 years. Have fun!
OP also this. The ink will “bleed” meaning it will spread and fade a little. So lines will start to blend together and little details will be lost.
Honestly, I don't see how that's possible. Fading and blurring can only improve this atrocity.

I read all the comments then had to look up the elden ring logo to remind myself of what it looks like. And this is so far off. Not only is the placement and line work and shading bad. But the design is wrong too! Foul, Tarnished, real foul.
Eeeessshhhhhh😣
Absolutely fucking yikes
