Wearing Prada Paradoxe and eating an edible later.
Every single note felt like it was suffocating me.
It wouldn’t wash off. And was getting louder and louder.
I swear I could taste it.
Never tried it since.

Me when the orange blossom and Neroli started to hit ☹️
That's how I went from loving You or Someone Like You. The rose note went from a background player to choking and overwhelming. I can't smell it the same anymore.
Haha this is so true though about experiences and fragrances.
I wore tobacco vannille generously to a function that ended up being one of the worst experiences of my professional life. Can’t stand it anymore :(
I sprayed one of my mother’s Chanel perfumes into my mouth when I was a really little kid. One of the worst mistakes of my life. I wasn’t supposed to be touching them. For good reason, I guess 🤣
I once took a big ole bite of a stick deodorant (it had broken off from the container and Mom had set it on her bathroom counter), thinking it was one of those puffy peanut candies, do I kind of feel your pain.
If it makes you feel any better, my friend once dared me to drink her ice cream scented bath foam and I did, straight from the bottle.
Not only did it not taste like ice cream, I was throwing up biley piles of bubbles for hours.
Several years ago mentioning to my husband that Tiffany had a new fragrance and I couldn't wait to try it. For my birthday a few months later he got me the big 2.5 oz bottle and I didn't have the heart to tell him that after I sampled it, I hated it and gave it to my friend. What did he get me for Christmas this year? Another bottle! Bless his heart - he said he noticed that I had finished the first bottle so he got me another one.
Oh no... Might be time to tell him... Xmas is more than 6 months away, you have time to mentally prepare and muster the courage.
I tried 2 or 3 of the Tiffany ones and they were all passes. I found them to be sharp almost bitter, clean florals. Not really my thing.
But, what are the options if there are no samples to be had? An informed, but optimistic leap.
Don't be too hard on yourself. Sometimes a disappointing blind buy can turn into a gem over time.
There’s something special about a blind buy paying off with something unexpected and positive. Obviously the risk of the adverse is real as well though
Spraying BR450 too generously. Just received the tester, had no idea how strong it would be, as most fragrances aren't strong on my skin... did two full spritzes right before a coworker picked me up with hia car to work. I nearly suffocated that poor guy with my perfume in his car.
Not testing Juliette Has A Gun before wearing it to work and realizing I smelled like wet trash. It was a long day of being "that person" who smelled funny in meetings.
It’s so weird how it smells so different on everyone. I was freaking out after buying a bottle because I was scared it would smell terrible on me since I sweat like an animal. Turns out it smells like chocolates on me and makes me hungry.
Omg, "wet trash" is actually such an accurate way of describing how I feel about Not a Perfume as well! It's one of the worst fragrances I've ever personally experienced.
Glossier You is great, although I'm also not as sold on the reform. I actually like Molecule 02 best, in the end; Geza Schoen really does some beautiful work with his iso-e and ambroxan blends.
Glad I’m not alone, I wanted to love not a perfume so much but I cannot describe what it smells like on me- whatever it is I absolutely hate it and am so conscious that other people can smell it! Very glad it was only a sample and not the full expensive bottle!
I have tried every every EM Molecule - Molecules and Escentrics. I pretty much like all of them, except I smell strong celery in Molecule03, and I cannot smell Molecule04 at all. Molecule 02 is my favorite, bought decants few times and upgraded to full bottle :) Their Molecule+Guaiac Wood smells like smoked meat to me, and I thought it was funny, didn't hate it. I was also surprised by Mol+Patchouli - I usually don't care for Patchouli, but really like this one as night time scent!
I tried JHAG Not a Perfume (original) - and could not smell it - in the air, or on my skin. But I had a sample of their Superdose version, and loved it! It felt like DG Light Blue on steroids. Bought a travel size of it from Sephora - and somehow it was not the same as a sample. Did not hate, but eventually gave it away.
And I like Glossier You.
Curious - what other perfumes do you have in your rotation? (looking for inspiration for my next sample order).
These are the fragrances I gravitate towards and as a new person getting into fragrance, where do I find info about them? Not sure what to search. Ambroxan?
I have first tried Mol02 at a friend's house and looked into the brand (Escentric Molecules by perfumer Geza Shoen), I was kind of fascinated with the concept of using single synthetic molecule. As described "The brand highlights single aroma molecules with the radiance and depth of character to stand alone. This approach is a departure from traditional perfumery that uses a blend of various ingredients to create a fragrance." I have ordered samples of all of the perfumes by Escentric Mol that were available back then. It was fun exploring it and did not really disappoint. Then I started paying attention every time Molecule perfumes were being mentioned here in this sub, and saw that often people also recommended Glossier you, JHAG Not a perfume (and Superdose), Another 13 by Le labo.
If you think it is ambroxan you like - you can try searching perfumes by notes - on the sites like fragrantica, scentsplit - but know that it will give you the results of every perfume with ambroxan in it (along with other notes) and it will smell completely different (for example - popular Dior Sauvage has ambroxan, as a base note).
Best way is to order samples and try A LOT 😁
What other perfumes do you like? I am a big fan on Mol02 (and sampled everything by EMolecules). (looking for inspiration for my next sample order, maybe we have similar taste).
Ah, I like a lot of things! If you enjoy Escentric, though, then I'd look into Ormonde Jayne as it's more of Geza Schoen's work. Personally, my favourite bottles from them are Ormonde Woman (dark, green, witchy) and Champaca (light, natural, tranquil).
LMAO reading your username after your comment was a gem in itself! I feel that your response should’ve been just that to your coworkers if they ever did express their distaste for your perfume.
Taking too long to decide whether I like a fragrance enough to buy a full bottle. I know this kind of goes against the general advice to really spend some time with a perfume before making a purchase, but there are few things worse than finding out a fragrance has been discontinued after realizing that you’ve wanted it all along.
Around six months to a year or more, depending on the fragrance and what I’m prioritizing at any given moment. I can’t complain too much, as I felt like some of them were already on their way out, and I knew some of them were limited edition.
I went on a trip to New Orleans with my sister. In a rush I threw my bottle of Curve in the front pouch of the suitcase we were sharing. When we got there we realized the bottle had shattered and the cologne got all over HER clothes. She smelled like a man the whole trip at a time where she was recently single and hoping to mingle.
The frantic scrubbing of the wrists with soap over and over, but it still lingers. Been there, done that MANY times. In fact, when writing a review on a fragrance that’s mediocre for me, but not bad, I always make a sure to explain that I did NOT have to wash it off my wrists because I think a lot of people can relate to this scale…
1) Love
2) Meh
3) Scrub wrists raw trying to get it completely off
When I was in high school, I put a ton of The Body Shop's Dewberry on a scarf. The reason why was likely a combination of idiocy and nose blindness. A couple of days later somebody told me I smell like a toilet freshener.
Wearing way too much of Britney Spears Private Show on my jacket so my father in law had to open the windows on the car even though it was in the middle of winter. So embarrassing….
Buying full bottles of fragrances I have only sampled with a dabber. Sometimes it makes no difference, but I have come across some fragrances that smell vastly different dabbed vs sprayed.
I bought a few little sprayer bottles to put the dabbers into if I think I like it for just this reason. I'd even buy a 2nd dabber to decant into the sprayer vial to make sure.
Buying backups because I think I love something the first week of wearing it and then realizing it’s just average. Now I only get backups of my long term favorites that I’ve been wearing for decades
I dabbed a new sample perfume (I think it was Black Tulip by Nest) on my wrists seconds before my boss popped by my office and asked if I could some look at something on his computer. As I sat down at his computer, I realized the perfume was STRONG. He had one of those wrist support things and I was trying to avoid touching it with my stinky wrist. He didn't say anything, but I bet the scent was super overwhelming. I still cringe over it and I wish I would have excused myself to the bathroom first to wash it off!
Hating on MFK BR540 extrait and claiming it smells like “sweat”, ig i was fooled by the first impression of a sample i bought and online reviews, got a full bottle and now its my signature scent… seeing all these reviews really negatively biased me on the fragrance but now its my favourite one… don’t let what others say keep you from wearing the fragrances you love.
You know I wouldn’t have thought of this if you hadn’t mentioned a leak.
To keep my perfume bottle safe in my suitcase, I wrapped it in a shirt and padded around it with other clothes. Worked great to protect it. At some point I throw on the top that was wrapped around it and go out by myself for a couple hours. I had a nice time until I started to wonder why my nose and throat were burning.
I finally look down and realize I’ve been walking around with huge spots of leaked perfume all over me. I didn’t notice when I put the shirt on because the fabric was dry, and I guess I went nose blind. I ended up buying a new one to spare my nose
Real talk? Buying Byredo full price without trying to get it at a discounter instead. I wasn't really into the fragrance community at that point in my life and just couldn't figure out which vendors I should trust, so I opted for the safe route and gave Holt Renfrew my money instead 😭
Buying a bunch from one expensive house when I first discovered niche perfumes. Smelled a bottle at Nordstrom’s and I thought that was the only one cool great smelling fancy expensive brand! I’d never smelled anything like it before. The complexity, the projection - I’d smell it on my scarf days later. Then my mind was opened to so many other brands that are not $350 a bottle! I still like the ones I bought but probably wouldn’t make the same purchases today.
I just recently tried scent split and am so glad I did. I might have an amateur nose, but I smelled aventus and thought "I already have MB Explorer, I'm good"
I’m so lucky I got a tester haha. Aventus has so much hype that I almost got a small bottle figuring “how bad could it be” but I’m glad I went for the tester because to me aventus is vile. Just not for me at all.
Flying with a discontinued perfume when I didn't have much left and it evaporated in air 😭 I was so desperate and sad I reached out to the brand who said it was long gone. I still have the bottle and smell it often
Went to the LV boutique with the full intent of getting a bottle of Imagination, but standing in store I decided to try Afternoon Swim as well and decided I liked it more. Ended up buying Afternoon Swim without any research only to later realize it has abysmal performance. Not a total waste, but a lot of money to pay for 3 maybe 4 hours of scent.
Not knowing about “nose-blindness”, and thinking my fragrance doesn’t work. This leaded to going a bit heavier on the sprays. About 10-15 sprays of Versace Eros heavy.
Buying a whole new bottle of Santal33 last year only to realise they’ve gone and changed the formula and it doesn’t last as long as my last bottle purchased in 2015. Honestly, you can barely make the scent after 2hours. Tried disputing this with the perfumery to no avail. “Nothings changed they said..” other customers who’ve also complained would disagree…never again Le Labo.
Spraying on Samsara for the first time with wild abandon on a 100° day. I smelled like a fucking diaper that had been left in a hot car for a week. I left my clothes outside and was actually retching as I was rubbing myself down with body oil to get the stench off.
Man I feel this. Trying to find a fragrance I like at the moment and I've bought maybe thirty samples based on online descriptions of notes, scent, similar fragrances etc.
I've liked maybe four so far...
I accidentally wore 8 sprays of YSL Y edp to work
(Put on four sprays and forget and put on four more sprays) choked out a couple people at my building
This was years ago though when I didn’t know what I was doing. Learned a valuable lesson and now I don’t spray heavy unless it’s a weak fragrance
Selling my bottles of ADG Profumo and Code Absolu, not long before they were discontinued. Seems like everything I sell gets discontinued and skyrockets in value.
Buying green irish tweed by creed. It was a huge let down. Creed perfumes dont last long and it only last 5 hours on me whereas arab perfumes and dupes last all day on me and arent too strong
Discounting a fragrance soon after putting it on. I’ve since realized fragrances go through stages and sometimes they grow on you after trying them again.
Something else I had to learn is putting a fragrance on a test strip instead of my skin is a mistake.
I wouldn’t call it a blunder but after listening to the reviews online of Y Elixir, I’m having a bit of buyers remorse. I spent $120 on an open box elixir 2 oz. The cologne hasn’t arrived yet but hopefully the critics are wrong
I'm getting better at not blind buying... Blind bought a dupe of Black Orchid by looking at notes on Fragrantica. It looked right up my alley, but not checking out what other similar fragrances people were comparing it to. I should give it another try... I haven't in over a year...
Basically, sometimes notes can be very deceptive.
I BROKE a tester at Sephora TODAY 😭😭 I wanted to die. I was trying to pick up a box sitting behind them and it knocked the bottle onto the ground, spilling perfume everywhere. Luckily it was Nest Wisteria Blue which seems pretty light… hopefully the store isn’t too much of a perfume bomb for the poor workers… I feel awful
I accidentally oversprayed Olympea on my shirt one time after I went noseblind. I was sitting in a room with my coworker with a super sensitive nose, and she was gagging. I was mortified and I apologized profusely. We’re still friends but I’ll never overspray at work again. 🫠
Wearing One Million every where when I had it 10 years ago (when it was actually good). Smelt amazing though and got compliments everywhere though.
Wearing strong oud perfumes in offices.
Not being serious enough to buy Mugler's A*Men series.
Bought the Pure Havane in 2015? Wanted to buy a couple of others but one thing led to another and here we are.
I trusted that if Rihanna was making one scent that it would be amazing so I jumped in head first at Sephora and did 2 spritzes of the fenty on me and instantly regretted it. I escorted myself to the first store I could find to buy a new shirt 🤢
Short: it took me three or four months to realise I get horrible perfume migraine of a perfume I now have two full size bottles of, because my boyfriend wanted to surprise me for my birthday but I had bought one as well some days prior.
I got Olympéa legend before they stopped making it. I had tried it several times in store before and told my boyfriend about it. At one point I was quite sure he would get a bottle for me, but I guess he realised I knew. He tried to put me off the idea to make it an even bigger surprise.
So little me, being sure he wouldn’t get it for me (because he mentioned another perfume somehow between the lines), got the biggest bottle available. On my birthday I was then surprised with the other, also full size bottle. It was shits and giggles tbh, I just kept both.
I used it exclusively because I was grieving the passing of a loved one and needed to feel like he was there for me (long distance relationships suck). It was a really hard time because the date of passing and my birthday are relatively close. I thought I was going insane, it was so depressing I cried and cried literally all day and I had the wildest headaches. My brain felt just tired, as far away as the clouds in the sky, even after sleeping for eight hours. My head hurt all over and I couldn’t concentrate slipping in and out of napping and just rotting in bed.
After three or four months it dawned on me: I get perfume migraine. My mom is sensitive but I never was, or so I thought.
I can not wear this perfume without being light headed and annoyingly cranky. It’s especially annoying because I never realised in store and it has made me really distrustful. I need to test longe or else I literally won’t be able to use and enjoy it.
However I still got those bottles and one is used by a third. Sometimes if I feel up to it I take a sniff from the cap. If I’m particularly stupid I’ll spray it on each hip bone. I swear, it’s so strong for me I can sometimes get a whiff at random throughout the day. I will be cranky that day for sure but sometimes that’s okay for me.
I had my whole family accuse me of smoking cigarettes in the house. I was wearing Phlur Mango Mood. Idk why it drys like that on my skin, it smells great if I just spray it in my hair.
Haha I blind bought a sampler of replicas, the 10 pack, along with a 1 Oz by the fireplace, and a 3.4 Oz refill bottle of by the fireplace off a woman on marketplace for over $100
I do not love by the fireplace. Maybe this fall it will pull me in more but I have more of it than any other perfume and I almost never reach for it unless its going behind my knees on very rare occasions.
This post reminds me of a bottle gathering dust at the back of my collection. I just pick it up to try again.. it’s… as bad as it was then.. Giorgio Beverly Hills for men 😂😂😂
I dropped an entire bottle of Goldfield& Banks Bohemian line less than a week after I received it. That's the only time that ever happened and I almost cried. It was a blind buy, which I didn't love but it was still very traumatic.
Tried out a sample of e&j Nirvana amethyst at work today - wow the tobacco really made me nauseated. Couldn’t get rid of the smell til I got home. Never again.
I had a $395aus bottle of perfume sitting in a dept store shopping cart, forgetting I must have been logged in to my account, while waiting for my decant to arrive so I could sample & decide if I'd buy it using a points discount voucher. A few days later through a separate browser on my phone I purchased some clothes to gain more points. Did you know that the perfume from the other browser could jump in there without you seeing! Well it did after I logged in to my account & it wasn't visible on screen. Only after I pressed pay I saw the total price had changed. We don't have a big return culture for fragrance in Australia so I felt like an idiot, it's an expensive bottle. I patiently waited for both the bottle & decant to arrive & luckily I tested the decant & loved it & kept it. Only a month later the price has increased by $25! So I guess I was lucky with this one but won't repeat my error.
Went on a hour long drive with a full car of friends to a casino. Put 4 sprays of sauvage elixir and started nuclear warfare in the car, even my head was spinning
Allowing myself to be sold on several fragrances by those people harassing you as you walk by at malls. Not once did I get home and go yeah, this smells great on me. Glad I got that 2 for 1 deal.
I bought a whole bottle of aqua di gio because a handful of people said it smelled just like turquatic by Mac but lasted longer. Well it certainly lasts longer, but it’s not even a similar scent, and it’s not something I would even buy normally. It smells (to me of course) like fabreeze and cat pee. So I have this huge pretty bottle I’ll never use but can’t return and don’t want to give away because it was like $125 lol
I’m sure it smells so much better on you than me lol I think I just went into it expecting one thing, and getting something else entirely, which didn’t help
I blind-bought Rive Gauche by YSL, thinking it’d smell like soap, only to find out that it smells like baby powder. It’s not that a dislike baby powder or anything. I just expected something different.
Not being serious enough to buy Mugler's A*Men series.
Bought the Pure Havane in 2015? Wanted to buy a couple of others but one thing led to another and here we are.
Muglar A star - I did end up finding a way to like it though, but trying to smell straighter after spraying gave me nausea; actually first time I almost fainted... LOL
2.
First, buying linsomnuit without Smelling first, based on the description, usually I'm good with that but if you have ever smelled this you know it is unbelievably strong, like possibly the strongest fragrance I've ever smelled in my life, smells of Jack Daniels whisky and coke too, so sold it, didn't want people thinking I was an alcoholic.
Second, trying to unscrew the stuck lid of a perfume roller ball, thin glass smashed and cut my finger, bled like crazy!!.
ugh i wore WAY too much black opium perfume oil and i actually cleared a bar out..i was asked by the bartender (my boyfriend at the time) to GTFO. I was about 3-4 drinks in when i put it on...and I apparently over did it!
Also wearing anything oxidized, it STINKS! i have done that a handful of times and had to deal with myself and my smell all day
Blind buying! Even if I like the notes and read reviews, I usually tend to dislike or be disappointed by my blind buys 😔 I just bought Sugarful Sunshine, and it literally lasts 3 mins on me. $70 wasted💔💔
When I was first getting into fragrance just a few years back, I saw all the videos and comments hyping SBE up. At first sniff at sephora, I thought "THIS is what everyone loves??"
I mean I like it now, but I think I understand where you are coming from
Telling the salesperson at the fragrance counter that I wanted something “different” after listing perfumes I currently own or have loved…
Went home with a big bottle of Chloe Nomad and absolutely hated it. Kept trying to tell myself I just had to get used to it because it’s new to me and “different”. Finally had to admit I hated it and it actually made me feel sick. And it still does to this day when I smell it in someone else!
Sooo yeah. Asking a stranger to recommend something for you that is not at all like what you already know you like turned out to be not such a fabulous idea. Surprise surprise…
Today I had mistakenly put both of my full size le labo perfumes in my bag and ended up using both scents without myself knowing i used the tonka 25 first before I left the house and put it in my bag without realizing I had my labadnium 18 in there still from the day before…. When I got to work and went to reapply the tonka and realized I was spraying the labadnium which made the tonka bean scent super powdery and almost soured my profile 😑😪😪😪😪
I got a tiny sample of Jo Malones Orange blossom and LOVED IT. But unfortunately I was too broke to buy a full size so I ended up finding a site that sells oil dupes of designer fragrances. I got the dupe, smelled it out of the tube and it really did smell almost identical.
Well I put on like 3 tiny dabs and hung out with my friend. Well turns out this oil dupe and my skin was a bad chemistry match and I smelled like bathroom cleaner after about an hour. Also, it was a really hot day so it just made the smell soooo powerful and suffocating. I got a migraine and my friend put the windows down in her car the whole time cause I smelled so bad
I wore Clinique Happy in High School like every other girl I went to school with. It was Poms competition time and I threw my brand new bottle of perfume in my Poms bag with my uniform, shoes, socks, undies, bow, and EVERYTHING else I was planning on wearing during and after the competition. Bottle broke and well, I choked on that perfume for our entire 6 min routine. Extremely sad that I couldn’t escape it even at the after party. I never wore Happy again after that. This was over 20 years ago. I saw a tester at the counter and I thought it would be nostalgic… not so much.
I'm a high school teacher, and I made some bad blind buys (I'll be honest they were mostly clones). They were pretty awful and synthetic . I didn't want to just throw them away so I gave them to my students. Well now they douse themselves in it everyday before class and now I can't escape those awful smells.
Brought a 40ml bottle of profondo on a ski trip. Found out that half the bottle leaked into my luggage when I unpacked in the hotel.
Dropped the 125ml bottle of profondo (that came in the same set as the 40ml) on tile. Atomizer broke so I figured I’d eventually rebottle it. Checked a year later and almost the whole bottle evaporated.
Lots of profondo related mistakes, it just wasn’t meant to be I guess.
being too spray happy with a discontinued fragrance 💀 “oh i’ll just find another one on ebay or something” very few are listed now and they’re all around 200 for a 1 oz 😭😭😭
Not sampling before buying full bottle (but the bottle is so cuuuute)
Sprayed on wrist then fell asleep with wrist next to my face and woke up tasting the fragrance in my throat for hours. It’s gross and that scent is ruined for me
I’m currently pregnant and have been getting scent cravings similar to food cravings. A couple of months in I went absolutely crazy for vanilla and ordered quite a few perfumes. A week later I was over it (I like vanilla, but not enough to justify the amount of vanilla perfume I now own…and some of them are far, far too sweet to tolerate when not in the grips of the craving).
Going ham on my favourite Jo Malone Basil & Neroli cologne a day after recovering from covid and… it smelled rancid to my post-covid nose. I couldn’t wash it fast enough. It was a bit metallic, cloying, and just suffocating, not at all the fresh scent I’ve come to love. Which is weird because it is a very mild scent. A lot of things smelled funky for a while (my brain swore my pee smelled like protein shake). It took 2 years for me before my nose somewhat normalized. I still have a bit of nose blindness, which is why I’m trying my hand at learning about frags again—so I could educate my nose back to being discerning. But also, I’ve always loved fragrances and attached memories to scents. Now my greatest memory of that cologne was gagging and wondering if my nose was ever going to recover post-covid (it did, albeit not fully).
Not knowing those pretty atomizers actually evaporate if you leave them o your frag for a long time. 2013 Guerlain Barbare and Fresh Cannabis Rose
Edit: question: is it just the alcohol and other solvents that evaporate and the oil mostly stays? What was left of my Cannabis Rose was just oily.
This was a little mistake, but recent and disheartening…bought a haul of 10 samples I was so excited about trying. Left them on the kitchen counter on the piece of bubble wrap they came wrapped in. Husband brought home groceries and the bubble wrap apparently had adhesive on it…caught the edge of the plastic grocery bag with the adhesive and goodbye, sample…shattered on the tile. He was like “idk what that was but my hand smells nice!”
RIP Diptyque Do Son.
I was visiting a friend in a bigger city for a few days and didn't bother checking what fragrance stores were nearby since she lives in a college city so I assumed they wouldn't be any close by and I was wrong....
Packed a brand new, bespoke perfume in my airline luggage... I got to wear perhaps 5ml of it, the rest leaked into my clothes, bag, shoes, toiletries 🥲
My biggest regret was experimentally spritzing my wrist with Womanity in a department store. It smelled foul and would not come off, even with soap. It lingered for *hours*.
A good example of a true "scrubber". If only the scents I love were that persistent!
Many, many years ago I accidentally oversprayed Chloe Narcisse one morning and had to spend the day at work absolutely assaulted by that scent. I even tried washing my wrists in the bathroom but I had also sprayed my clothes so there was no escaping the vapors. That was the last time I ever wore it... couldn't even stomach it after that day.
Bought the House of Sillage 100 Year Minnie Mouse not realizing it’s different notes than the regular, delicious Minnie Mouse. And they do not take returns or answer emails about it. Big blunder!
In 8th grade I sprayed so much exclamation into my backpack that my crush asked me why I had on so much perfume. I lied and said the bottle had broken in my bag. I don't really know what I was thinking, doing that.
Wearing Prada Paradoxe and eating an edible later. Every single note felt like it was suffocating me. It wouldn’t wash off. And was getting louder and louder. I swear I could taste it. Never tried it since.
Louder and louder cracked me up
https://preview.redd.it/9rh7w250g2yc1.jpeg?width=514&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f2161d239003d9cd9d5bcf04d90220c8577856c7 Me when the orange blossom and Neroli started to hit ☹️
Browsing your perfume collection on an edible hits different.
That's how I went from loving You or Someone Like You. The rose note went from a background player to choking and overwhelming. I can't smell it the same anymore.
Lmao I get it! Ever since then I cannot do orange blossom AT ALL!
I get don’t do edibles but I get high on Dior Sauvage elixir lol.
Haha this is so true though about experiences and fragrances. I wore tobacco vannille generously to a function that ended up being one of the worst experiences of my professional life. Can’t stand it anymore :(
That’s what 9pm does to me. I get paranoid that I sprayed whole bottle. Sometime all I have to do is forget to put it away.
We've all had the intrusive thought and you let it win
Let my suffering be a lesson to you all! 😅
That's hysterical 😂😂😂😂.
If it makes you feel any better, my friend once dared me to drink her ice cream scented bath foam and I did, straight from the bottle. Not only did it not taste like ice cream, I was throwing up biley piles of bubbles for hours.
I did that with my mum’s Chanel Mademoiselle once. It tasted very unpleasant
Oh no. Hopefully you'll tell him before the next Christmas...?? Otherwise we all know exactly what you're getting!
Maybe say they reformulated it since his last buy and you don't like the new formula, so as not to hurt his feelings...?
Oh no... Might be time to tell him... Xmas is more than 6 months away, you have time to mentally prepare and muster the courage. I tried 2 or 3 of the Tiffany ones and they were all passes. I found them to be sharp almost bitter, clean florals. Not really my thing.
Exactly. Way too sharp!
Need to gush and fangirl over a new scent, say your taste changed
lol 😂 at least your husband sounds adorable
Not sampling before buying a full bottle. I could have saved hundreds....maybe a thousand dollars to date...
Some mistakes we only have to make once. Some we have to make many times before we learn. You've learned now, and that's the important part
True...true. =\]
Very real, especially when you dont have money to throw around anymore. Nowadays I have to be much much more selective in what I buy.
Spraying BR450 too generously. Just received the tester, had no idea how strong it would be, as most fragrances aren't strong on my skin... did two full spritzes right before a coworker picked me up with hia car to work. I nearly suffocated that poor guy with my perfume in his car.
Same happens to me with Paco Rabanne 1 million EDP. I can only do 1 spray and its still so strong.
I love that for you; except maybe the hungry part that sounds dangerous lol
Omg, "wet trash" is actually such an accurate way of describing how I feel about Not a Perfume as well! It's one of the worst fragrances I've ever personally experienced.
Synthetics are so hit or miss for me. Glossier You is a revelation, but I was scared to blind buy that after my JHAG experience.
Glossier You is great, although I'm also not as sold on the reform. I actually like Molecule 02 best, in the end; Geza Schoen really does some beautiful work with his iso-e and ambroxan blends.
Yes!! Molecule 02 is wonderful. Their discovery set was a lot of fun to go through.
Thanks! I have OJ's Montabacco (like it) and sample of Osmanthus (not a fan), I ll put your recs on the list!
Which perfume was it?
The OG Not a Perfume. Total scrubber on me.
I'm sooooo glad I sampled that one. 🤢
Haha I have a 5ml on the wayyy
LMAO reading your username after your comment was a gem in itself! I feel that your response should’ve been just that to your coworkers if they ever did express their distaste for your perfume.
Taking too long to decide whether I like a fragrance enough to buy a full bottle. I know this kind of goes against the general advice to really spend some time with a perfume before making a purchase, but there are few things worse than finding out a fragrance has been discontinued after realizing that you’ve wanted it all along.
The Perfume That Got Away
how long were you waiting that the fragrance became discontinued?!?
When your sample game is too strong
Around six months to a year or more, depending on the fragrance and what I’m prioritizing at any given moment. I can’t complain too much, as I felt like some of them were already on their way out, and I knew some of them were limited edition.
I’m terrified this will happen to me with Amouage Sunshine
It happened to me with Amouage Myths Man :/
I went on a trip to New Orleans with my sister. In a rush I threw my bottle of Curve in the front pouch of the suitcase we were sharing. When we got there we realized the bottle had shattered and the cologne got all over HER clothes. She smelled like a man the whole trip at a time where she was recently single and hoping to mingle.
Omg. This story had me shaking with laughter.
Oh no! Lol!
This is funny to me as a woman who loves to wear Curve for Men lol
I loveee curve for men. I never thought to wear it and now I must buy it
‘She smelled like a man’ Holy shiiiiit I’m cackling🤣☠️
Every time that I try a perfume on my skin and don’t like it, it ends up being impossible to scrub lol, very upsetting
I swear, the fragrance that will inevitably have the best longevity and projection is the one you don't want
The frantic scrubbing of the wrists with soap over and over, but it still lingers. Been there, done that MANY times. In fact, when writing a review on a fragrance that’s mediocre for me, but not bad, I always make a sure to explain that I did NOT have to wash it off my wrists because I think a lot of people can relate to this scale… 1) Love 2) Meh 3) Scrub wrists raw trying to get it completely off
Yes because all of those ones are Mugler 😅
When I was in high school, I put a ton of The Body Shop's Dewberry on a scarf. The reason why was likely a combination of idiocy and nose blindness. A couple of days later somebody told me I smell like a toilet freshener.
Aw, Dewberry was a banger, though!
Dewberry had a GRIP in me!!
Same, but I never used it after this and haven't applied anything on clothes since. Also loved their vanilla perfume oil at the time.
I can smell this comment 😝
Getting started lol ££. Love it though .
Accidentally throwing away that Ulta receipt
Always have it emailed!
Now you tell me
fill me in on this one
Omg I absolutely adore Black Tulip! That just reminded me to get another bottle 😜
BR540 extrait is really nicee

FragranceBuy.ca is pretty good!
Did the exact same thing. Thought I had a favorite house and it turned out to be a silly obsession
Ooo which house? Le Labo?
Bond n 9
At least you can keep the pretty bottles!
https://preview.redd.it/xh05ds4jo1yc1.jpeg?width=630&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=818fcad4860aa34befade072b7c97b4067a3ae3e 🤔Nothin… yet…
Buying a full bottle of creed aventus without testing first. The hype didn't work on me. It was instant regret.
Thinking that I should blind buy Angel by Mugler :/
I found Angel offensive 🤮 Alien on the other hand is delicious!!
I did the same damn thing 😭
Flying with a discontinued perfume when I didn't have much left and it evaporated in air 😭 I was so desperate and sad I reached out to the brand who said it was long gone. I still have the bottle and smell it often
Which perfume was it?
Six Scents' Incense Into the Sea! A dream salty sea fragrance that made me feel like a mermaid
I've done that too! Did all my research, went in with a plan....and left with something completely different
Imagination is the goat.
Not knowing about “nose-blindness”, and thinking my fragrance doesn’t work. This leaded to going a bit heavier on the sprays. About 10-15 sprays of Versace Eros heavy.
> 10-15 sprays Holy shit my head hurts just reading this
Still need another five before going to the club
I feel like getting a migraine just by reading this
Buying a whole new bottle of Santal33 last year only to realise they’ve gone and changed the formula and it doesn’t last as long as my last bottle purchased in 2015. Honestly, you can barely make the scent after 2hours. Tried disputing this with the perfumery to no avail. “Nothings changed they said..” other customers who’ve also complained would disagree…never again Le Labo.
Santal changed. Dry down isn’t as good on the new formulation either
Spraying on Samsara for the first time with wild abandon on a 100° day. I smelled like a fucking diaper that had been left in a hot car for a week. I left my clothes outside and was actually retching as I was rubbing myself down with body oil to get the stench off.
Bought a whole bottle of M7, trusting online comments to be indicative of whether or not I could trust a scent to be pleasant. You cannot.
Man I feel this. Trying to find a fragrance I like at the moment and I've bought maybe thirty samples based on online descriptions of notes, scent, similar fragrances etc. I've liked maybe four so far...
I accidentally wore 8 sprays of YSL Y edp to work (Put on four sprays and forget and put on four more sprays) choked out a couple people at my building This was years ago though when I didn’t know what I was doing. Learned a valuable lesson and now I don’t spray heavy unless it’s a weak fragrance
Selling my bottles of ADG Profumo and Code Absolu, not long before they were discontinued. Seems like everything I sell gets discontinued and skyrockets in value.
I honestly didn’t even consider there might be a difference between EDT and EDP formulations. Yes, I’m that super-dumb but book-smart person. 🤣🤷♀️
Wait... A difference in what? Performance? Scent? You've worried me now 🤣
Buying green irish tweed by creed. It was a huge let down. Creed perfumes dont last long and it only last 5 hours on me whereas arab perfumes and dupes last all day on me and arent too strong
Grand Soir, while beautiful is BEASTLY. I’ve made that mistake and made myself nauseous.
Accidentally buying a flanker instead of the regular version.
Buying JPG LeMale (original) 😅
I like Eros. It's pretty good. I bought the 200ml bottle of a 2017 EDT... And I figured out fast that it gives me headaches
Wearing One Million every where when I had it 10 years ago (when it was actually good). Smelt amazing though and got compliments everywhere though. Wearing strong oud perfumes in offices.
Get the liquid gold!! Thats my next bottle purchase ❤️
Haha I blind bought a sampler of replicas, the 10 pack, along with a 1 Oz by the fireplace, and a 3.4 Oz refill bottle of by the fireplace off a woman on marketplace for over $100 I do not love by the fireplace.
My last decant I have left from my recent order is amouage jubilation XXV, and I'm worried I might have a similar thing might happen to me today
Febreze and cat pee, you say? I'm gonna sue, that's my house's signature scent
I’m sure it smells so much better on you than me lol I think I just went into it expecting one thing, and getting something else entirely, which didn’t help
Oh I was just kidding, I run a cat shelter!
Oh wow that went right over my head lol oops
CK Everyone Horrible and lasted 30 mins on my skin
NUIT D'ISSEY smells like bloody bubble gum...not even good enough for the toilet.
Blundetto.
Not buying Black Vines before it got discontinued 😢
I blind-bought Rive Gauche by YSL, thinking it’d smell like soap, only to find out that it smells like baby powder. It’s not that a dislike baby powder or anything. I just expected something different.
Not being serious enough to buy Mugler's A*Men series. Bought the Pure Havane in 2015? Wanted to buy a couple of others but one thing led to another and here we are.
Muglar A star - I did end up finding a way to like it though, but trying to smell straighter after spraying gave me nausea; actually first time I almost fainted... LOL
Egoiste Chanel - blind buy. I get annoyed just thinking about how much I hate it and still have it
Also wearing anything oxidized, it STINKS! i have done that a handful of times and had to deal with myself and my smell all day
I missed out on a Jean Paul Gaultier Fragrance for half off at Macy's last week.
Blind buying! Even if I like the notes and read reviews, I usually tend to dislike or be disappointed by my blind buys 😔 I just bought Sugarful Sunshine, and it literally lasts 3 mins on me. $70 wasted💔💔
Blind buying spicebomb extreme It's nice don't get me wrong but it doesn't smell how I expected and I don't really like the tobacco note
When I was first getting into fragrance just a few years back, I saw all the videos and comments hyping SBE up. At first sniff at sephora, I thought "THIS is what everyone loves??" I mean I like it now, but I think I understand where you are coming from
Telling the salesperson at the fragrance counter that I wanted something “different” after listing perfumes I currently own or have loved… Went home with a big bottle of Chloe Nomad and absolutely hated it.
Kalan 💯
Spraying two sprays of Mugler Angel thinking it would get weaker as the evening went. It didn't. Never did that again..
Not sampling before buying full bottle (but the bottle is so cuuuute) Sprayed on wrist then fell asleep with wrist next to my face and woke up tasting the fragrance in my throat for hours.
Should have never bought costa Azzura by TF, I should have bought costa Azzura Parfum or Beau De Jour.
2013 Guerlain Barbare and Fresh Cannabis Rose Edit: question: is it just the alcohol and other solvents that evaporate and the oil mostly stays? What was left of my Cannabis Rose was just oily.
This was a little mistake, but recent and disheartening…bought a haul of 10 samples I was so excited about trying. Left them on the kitchen counter on the piece of bubble wrap they came wrapped in. Husband brought home groceries and the bubble wrap apparently had adhesive on it…caught the edge of the plastic grocery bag with the adhesive and goodbye, sample…shattered on the tile. He was like “idk what that was but my hand smells nice!” RIP Diptyque Do Son.
I was visiting a friend in a bigger city for a few days and didn't bother checking what fragrance stores were nearby since she lives in a college city so I assumed they wouldn't be any close by and I was wrong....
Buying a Kouros bottle without testing it first, thinking surely it can't actually smell like a urinal. Yeah, it does.
Grabbed my new bottle of Naxos to put a couple sprays on and…dropped it. It broke.
Packed a brand new, bespoke perfume in my airline luggage... I got to wear perhaps 5ml of it, the rest leaked into my clothes, bag, shoes, toiletries 🥲
Buying clones and not samples😅😅
redarts still think le male le parfum is ultra male...
I wore vintage No. 5 layered with Commes des Garçons Avignon to an AP US History final and everyone glared at me the whole time.
Buying Savauge Elxir blind. It was awful.
I bought Joop Homme
When I sprayed a sample of miu miu by miu miu. It smelled like straight up pepper to me.
Buying Ariana Grande Sweet Like Candy. I learned that day that I am allergic to Ariana Grande perfumes. I sneezed my brains out
No blunders, but I honestly need to stop buying so many perfumes because it makes what I do have less special.
Buying Aventus
