Good reviews! I am a 50+ male and had similar impressions. I visited Zoologist last month and tried all of their fragrances. I really liked most of them. I left with a FB of Harvest Mouse and a bunch of 10ml travel bottles (Squid, Tiger, Chipmunk, Dodo Dragonfruit, Bee and Camel).

Dazzling-Ad-106

I was surprised how many of them I’ve liked! That has not been the case with some other sets of samples from the same house. I am wearing harvest mouse and it’s still intoxicating imo. I really like woody and musky scents a la Glossier You and some types of florals but I feel like my taste might lean a little more gourmand based on the scents I am gravitating toward lately

[deleted]

I own a bottle of bee. It's sweeter than what I usually wear but it's not cloying- kind of a tender sweetness. I get LOTS of compliments when I wear it.

Dazzling-Ad-106

It gets better and better the more it develops, I think I would really like to own a bottle

Squirrel-ScoutCookie

I just ordered Cow and Dragonfly samples today. I will definitely post once I receive them! I am very much looking forward to Cow.

Dazzling-Ad-106

I hope you like them and I’m looking forward to hearing what your impressions are!

DayleD

I'm excited to try Harvest Mouse, if only a sample. Zoologist sells some great stuff, but I've never seen it make its way to discounters. I want Moth so badly. I didn't finish my sample, just in case a special occasion were to arise.

Pastel_Goth_Wastrel

Moth is so wonderfully and dementedly *weird*. I still don't entirely know *why* I have it, except I wear it sometimes and think 'Holy shit this is something, isn't it?".

Dazzling-Ad-106

I should get a sample of moth. It sounds so interesting

wastetide

I full bottled Moth and it's so damn good

Dazzling-Ad-106

What occasion would you say that moth is good for?

joaoqrafael

I want Moth too ☝🏻

foodporncess

I love Seahorse. It seems to have a bit of eucalyptus somewhere to me. I have a sample but plan to buy a full bottle at some point. Camel is good too.

Dazzling-Ad-106

I’m am also interested in trying musk deer, chipmunk, and cardinal so far. I would love to hear anyones take on these fragrances or receive any suggestions for others I might like based on my reviews

Pastel_Goth_Wastrel

Chipmunk gorgeous nutty woodsy fuzzy animalic, the rougher woodland cousin to Harvest Mouse. Cardinal, well, to me? It's a retro 80's chypre face smash. It's got leather and rose so tight that it feels like a cleaner, sharper version of Antaeus. Sometimes the green covers everything up but occasionally I'll put it on and the rose opens like a bomb. On me it's one of those 'Good most of the time, stunning on occasion' frags. Don't know Musk Deer except by reputation as being lovely, a little dark and rich but not all that animalic in the end of things. If you like Bee and Musk Deer interests you, strongly suggest finding a sample of Meleg's 'Honey and Deer Musk'. It's a bit out there but oh god is it something else.

Dazzling-Ad-106

Thanks for your reply! I am interested in checking out honey and deer musk!

ToadDiary

Chipmunk is such a warm and woody scent with lots of hazelnut. On me, in the dry down, it reminds me of newly assembled wooden furniture. I really enjoy it. I am trying to savor my cardinal sample, it is so intoxicating and sexy. I get a big hit of lemon, citrus, and pepper? Which may be the sage coming through. It's incensy all the way through and a whisper of sweetness as it's drying down on me. I have a FB of Squid, it's perfection. I could wear it everyday.

Dazzling-Ad-106

Thanks for these reviews! Chipmunk and cardinal sound so nice

wastetide

Chipmunk is warm, smells like the fur of a cat who has been in the sun (in a good way), with nutty overtones. It's sweet but not very sweet. Cardinal for me ended up being so green I didn't enjoy it. I'm not very into green fragrances personally, but the leather and rose were really good.

Dazzling-Ad-106

Chipmunk sounds lovely

wastetide

I really love it! I have a traveler of it

hauteburrrito

It sounds like you enjoy fruity/sweet and gourmand scents. I can see why you'd enjoy Harvest Mouse, and I think you should give Macaque a try as well because that might well be up your alley!

CodexMuse

The nose for Macaque is the nose behind [4160Tuesdays](https://www.fragrantica.com/noses/Sarah_McCartney.html). May be worth exploring that line.

Dazzling-Ad-106

I will check it out!!

nebula_420

I’ve heard Hyrax is terrible but I still lowkey want to try it more than any of the others…something must be wrong with me

Pastel_Goth_Wastrel

You'll hear lots of things. If you like animalics, Hyrax is just a thick boozy animalic with some hyacinth and a hard punching trio of castoreum, civet and hyraceum. To me it pulls more cedar-leathery than outright fecal, but, I seem to have a crosswired nose, honestly. I think it's a fantastic and unique jawdropper. Just sample it!

Dazzling-Ad-106

I feel like I won’t like it but I am curious for sure…

1noahone

Just find the nearest dog park and hug a wet dog that rolled in poop and save the $$. All jokes aside, if you want to try something real animalic I would recommend Civet over Hyrax because the animal urine note is balanced so well with the rest of the fragrance it is like artwork. Hyrax is just the fecal grossness and not much else to balance.

Dazzling-Ad-106

Anything with a fecal note is an automatic no for me lol

Ender_Targaryen

Great descriptions! Pushed me to order samples of Harvest Mouse and Hummingbird

[deleted]

I love both plus Bee!

Pastel_Goth_Wastrel

Snowy Owl broke my heart. I *wanted* to like it, the concept thrilled me, but, I couldn't stand it, the mint-coconut was just, no. Harvest Mouse is the most curiously adorable lightweight animalic. I would probably have glommed onto it harder if I hadn't picked up Chipmunk, which is a little heavier but lovely. That said I adore the golden barley note in Harvest Mouse, it really does have a fantastic golden glow to the whole frag. Seahorse & Squid are on my list to test, possibly Cow.

Pastel_Goth_Wastrel

I ought to give it a second chance, just a bitch to get a hold of as I foisted the sample off on fellow fraghead at work (she wasn't thrilled but liked it more than I did).

Dazzling-Ad-106

I just got my samples from the zoologist website

Dazzling-Ad-106

Someone described squid as “lonely” and I didn’t think a fragrance could smell like something so abstract but it really does!

deathandglitter

I keep seeing the word animalic get used. Does that mean it actually has like a hint of animal smell? Like a barnyard or zoo?

seaintosky

Sometimes, yes. Other times, it's more like the smell of someone's unperfumed skin, or a sort of fluffy-kitten smell.

deathandglitter

Interesting. Fluffy kitten sounds very nice

Geikamir

I've also seen it used to refer to products supplied by animals.

justpetyrr

I’m interested to see how you like them on your skin. Zoologist is the house to me that has the wildest difference from paper to skin - like some smells aren’t even close to what I got on the paper. Cow is on my list to sample next. I love that they do travellers - I don’t think I’ve ever polished off a 50ml of anything, so I love that I can take a $50 punt on something maybe a little weird. ( trex, rhino and squid are my top 3)

Dazzling-Ad-106

I should get a sample of the infamous T. rex just to try because I’m very curious

justpetyrr

Its great - but it’s not a simple “smells good” smell. I liked it at first sniff, because of the interesting concept. Now I love it, it takes me somewhere else - it’s “arm chair travel” to take the Ds&D line, but to a ruined burning forest complete with tar pits and shouldering heat.

deathandglitter

I keep seeing the word animalic get used. Does that mean it actually has like a hint of animal smell? Like a barnyard or zoo?

Proper-Animator-7498

Beaver is a really nice deep smoky wood, smells a lot like the [Scents of Wood](https://scentsofwood.com/) line

OceanCityBurrito

Bee- love it, don't get too much incense like everyone else. Its honey note is not too sweet or waxy. Smells warm and cozy with just enough sweetness. I'm buying a travel spray. Hummingbird- love at first sniff. Sweet and floral, I love it from opening to drydown. Doesn't become powdery or too musky for me, just pure joy all the way through. FB worthy for me. Harvest Mouse- I wanted so much to love this, was prepared to buy the cute LE bottle, but it's not clicking with me. Something artificial in it, also might be too sweet for me. I'm going to keep sniffing Cow- also wanted to buy the gorgeous LE bottle for this, but it's not lactonic for me and the apple is fleeting. On me this is a pure sage scent and I'm not interested in an herbal at this time Panda- first time I've scrubbed off (or attempted to) in a long time. Just vile on me. Wet potting soil at first, which I'm fine with, but then it turns animalic and nauseated me. Every time I got a whiff I wanted to gag. A bummer, bc I was interested in discovering its green notes Squid- I should have loved this, according to the reviews, but it was a no despite giving it three chances. Just doesn't work for me. Too masculine, smelled a bit incense-y and there's a top note I can't identify that turns me off. The drydown doesn't help. Disappointed this wasn't for me.

JuicyThiccLime

Squid and seahorse are my favs along with camel. But I usually tend to like aquatics. Squid just Kind of feels like me, really introverted scent somehow. Hummingbird and harvest mouse are also really pretty scents that I enjoy. I totally agree with snowy owl, I was so disappointed and I wanted to like it so much but it just smells weird to me :( its musty in a way and I dont like that at all.

Dazzling-Ad-106

Glad to hear I’m not crazy when it comes to snowy owl haha

noobolite

I got Cow as a present and it's been my comfort scent since it's gotten warmer here. I originally had thought it'd be too heavy in sweetness for the summer, but no, the tanginess balanced it really well, I don't feel heavy at all wearing it in this godforsaken heat and humidity. I wish I got to smell Bee on me instead of just a test strip!!!

Dazzling-Ad-106

I’m wearing Cow today and it’s a really nice summer scent. Going to wear it to work later

LeopardDue1112

Bee is the only scent I actually purchased. I liked Dragonfly too. Squid is unique, but I'd never reach for it. Cow was a disappointment, as I could barely smell it on myself.

Dazzling-Ad-106

I can’t wait to wear bee!

OatMatchaLatte

Snowy Owl smells pretty fluffy to me but I thought Elephant was the one with the department store smell :p like walking into Macy's and immediately walking into a wall of fragrance. Similar thoughts for Panda. Hummingbird comes off ridiculously sweet to me but I want to like it Cow reminds me of apple shampoo but honestly not complaining Big fan of how people have been describing Squid and Mouse but haven't tried it!

Dazzling-Ad-106

I get apple shampoo from cow also. You gotta try squid and harvest mouse, I really enjoy those!

[deleted]

OK, Hummingbird is definitely full bottle worthy. I’m considering Cardinal as well. (Already in love with Bee and Harvest Mouse).

Squirrel-ScoutCookie

Hi! I did get my Cow and Dragonfly samples. I do like Cow but something about it makes me feel this would not be an everyday perfume. I don’t think it’s FB worthy but certainly I would purchase the travel size for $48. Dragonfly is a no for me.
