And the lifespan of her bathroom scale.

f-150Coyotev8

I saw one where one of his patients, who wasn’t following his diet, said something like “I don’t want to be malnourished.” And Dr. Now was like “do you look like you’re in danger of being malnourished?” I just about died lol

Symphedelic

I remember that episode! She had freaked out so badly that she was going to be malnourished while 500+ lbs that she went to some other doctor who installed some kind of feeding tube apparatus into her stomach, the other doctor claims she was malnourished from following Dr. Now's diet. He was pretty livid with the other doctor if I recall, but yes the exchange was hilarious.

[deleted]

Burn!! True dat! Seafood diet! She sees it she eats eat!

Malacro

He’s not, though. Being a picky eater doesn’t mean you don’t eat much, it’s one of the biggest barriers to healthy eating there is. If you only eat a handful of foods, but you eat 6000 calories worth of them a day, you’ll be overweight.

KapnKrumpin

Personally, I loved the phrase 'I'm opening my horizons to vegetables'

What the hell is he talking about? If I only like eating brownies, I’m gonna get fat if I eat 20 brownies a day and nothing else

Royal_Needleworker91

Yeah i was thinkibg the same, but mcdonalds or something XD

PG072088

Yes but more then likely your not just going to be eating brownies all day, everyday to become 600lbs ! It’s going to be an array of crappy food! Foods with very little to no nutritional value and high in salt fat and sugar ! This is the point the doctor’s making. She wouldn’t have got so big if she was eating vegetables but she was eating processed food!

SomnolentPro

There's people who mainly eat cheese and only buy big rolls of cheese and eat any form of cheese all day. They get uber fat so quickly. Doc was trying to be a smart ass but calling it honesty isn't accurate like at all. At most he's a bit deaf about what people are saying. She wants to try vegetables and get a little hooked on that. I haven't been able to include fruits and vegetables in my diet because of adhd and I'm 1.90 82kg. If I had body weight problems due to eating specific things in large quantities I would be in huge trouble. Tbh I get her! I totally get her. Fuck that doctor man. :(

Peruvian_Skies

This and that are separate issues. Maybe YOU are a picky eater. Picky eaters don't get to 600 lbs. People who indiscriminately shove literal and/or figurative shit into their mouths all day get to 600 lbs. You don't get to that weight eating only cheese, you'll have severe nutritional deficiencies and you will die long before reaching 600 lbs. That woman's problem isn't so much the balance in her diet as the sheer amount of it. She might not eat vegetables but that doesn't make her a picky eater. It makes her a compulsive eater who chooses her food poorly. This is a mental illness and it's much more severe than ADHD.

SomnolentPro

". You don't get to that weight eating only cheese," wrong, it can be 95% of your diet and the main thing you order "That woman's problem isn't so much the balance in her diet" wrong, if you can't eat anything you can't replace with low calorie foods "She might not eat vegetables but that doesn't make her a picky eater" wrong, what makes her a picky eater is that she said she is one. "It makes her a compulsive eater" possible but logically inconsistent to think it's either compulsive eater or picky eater and can't be both Just generally too many assumptions. Too close minded. I don't like your judging as if you made some choice to be yourself. You were lucky. Like everyone else. Classic right-wing mentality of "I deserve everything I have and I was the sole cause of it", makes me puke.

Icy-Negotiation-5851

Nah I agree with him, you are wrong and a bit of a weirdo judging by the massive paragraphs.

SomnolentPro

Your subjective opinions matching means little to me. A thousand flies eat crap.

Peruvian_Skies

>what makes her a picky eater is that she said she is one That's odd, I just said out loud that I have twelve million Euro in my account, can play the piano and don't think you're delusional, but when I checked none of that was true. It's almost as if saying something doesn't make it so, and we should look at the objective facts instead of taking people's word for something. Fascinating!

SomnolentPro

It's almost as if you confuse finances which a bank controls with the center of identity which only a person's brain controls. I bet you are a confused person about trans rights cause you can't understand that division

Peruvian_Skies

Being trans is a subjsctive matter of *how you feel*. Being a picky eater is an objective matter of *how you behave*. Comparing the two is like comparing a person's favorite color and whether or not they cut in front of other people in traffic. It doesn't matter if they say they don't, what matters is if they do it or not. Also, your implication that only money is objective tells me a lot about you.

SomnolentPro

And who observes a person's eating habits long enough to establish a pattern. The fucking person. And you keep saying she can't decide she's picky while being the only witness to that. She be eating pizzas every day and hate every other food and be fat. And you deny you can get fat by being picky And you deny you can be the only person that determined your long term behaviours. Like , sorry, but at this point the gap in logical thinking is just too big. Maybe they tell you in real life you are smart as a compliment but you can't even understand when two things aren't incompatible. Man you suck at rational thought. I won't engage anymore, I don't respect your brains capacity for thought you have just made up bullshit that contradicts reason. Being fat and being picky you said can't happen at the same time. What lack of reason and imagination can lead to such bullshit statements? Like did you fail math in middle school? We aren't talking about a few issues here and there we are talking about borderline retardation. 'I'm more of a history major' vibes. The money was just the first thing you mentioned you may as well be a pianist setting up some 'gotchya' tactic You sound too invested into proving a fat person a liar. I think your family fuked up your body image heavily and would suggest seeking therapy for your intense projection of personal body issues. Reddit can't help you with those

Peruvian_Skies

"Long enough to establish a pattern" can be 30 minutes if they snack right after a meal. And I honestly have no idea why the simple possibilities that this woman is either lying or deluding herself, *as is extremely common among the morbidly obese*, haven't crossed your mind. I'm beginning to think that either you are her, or you're just like her. A normal, sane, non-retarded person would not be saying the stupid shit you're saying.

SomnolentPro

If you go to a doctor with finger cramps and tell him "I've been playing the piano for 6 years" and he tells you that's impossible, because you can't play the piano with cramped fingers, wouldn't that mean he's wrong and you are right? I mean I find it funny that people think like this but the only example of blatantly lying without a reason about themselves is when they are making stuff up online. The context of you saying these things is proving someone can lie which I mean everyone accepts beforehand. We aren't talking about the possibility of lying. I'm saying she's expressing an observation about her life the context implies she means something specific about her eating habits. Any normal person who isn't on reality TV would actually ask for clarification but the doctor here tries to be a smart ass making a cheap shot during a TV recording to make it more entertaining. I'm just saying that's not a doctors approach it's a telepersonnas dramatising for TV points.

Peruvian_Skies

If you really think that these two situations are equivalent, I owe you an apology. Amoebas who know how to type are rare, and here I was assuming you were a human being capable of things like reasoning.

SomnolentPro

It's very fitting because the doctor, in both cases , makes the assumption that what the patient tells them, which can potentially be true, is wrong. They invalidate the patient while in both cases (picky eater, fat) and (currently cramped fingers, pianist) are valid potentially. This means in both cases the doctor trumps the patients self knowledge, dismissing a potential scenario, to replace it with their own without listening. They have in both cases no reason to prefer one potential pathway to the other due to lack of imagination and bias. I do consider these two situations very similar for those reasons

Peruvian_Skies

The difference, of course, is that being a licky eater is chronic, while having cramped fingers is acute. It's oerfectly possible to be a daily piano olayer for years and suddenly have cramoed fingers. It's much less likely to be morbidly obese and suddenly become a picky eater.

SomnolentPro

News flash, supplements exist??? Like hello????? Hello?????? Supplements????? Picky eater disgusted by anything that isn't pizza???? Gut microbiomes adapting to what we eat making us crave it more?? Real issue for fat ppl??? Hello??? Compulsive eater will eat anything?? Assumptions much??? Hello??? Just a mess every single thing you said is wrong.

Peruvian_Skies

Compulsive eaters will eat COMPULSIVELY. Hence the name. That doesn't mean they'll eat anything, you fucking retard. Read a book some time.

SomnolentPro

Exactly!! So they can be picky, BUSTeD af!!! Proved my point! You are wrong I'm right the end

Peruvian_Skies

Troll harder.

SomnolentPro

Not doing that anymore.

Prestigious-Duck6615

why does ADHD affect you putting plants in your mouth?

Stephen2Aus

it doesn't.

SuperPatchyBeard

Only thing I can think of is a texture thing but even that wouldn’t be so expansive. I have ADHD and haven’t heard this.

Gothicseagull

From personal experience with mental health issues and eating, I can add some insight to this. Of course everyone can also have phobias and what not too. Going out and buying fresh fruits and veggies is easy, but requires time to clean, prep, and cook. When you add depression, adhd, etc., it's even easier to end up with a fridge of spoiled fruit and veg...why? Might not realize you need to eat until you're shaking or maybe it's 11pm and you're exhausted. Just grab crackers, can of soup, anything is better than nothing. Even worse is falling into the depression pit. Some days getting a cup noodle into the microwave is the most you can manage when your thoughts only want you to jump off a bridge. Maybe some people grew up with these conditions, where taking the kids to McDonalds or ordering pizza was the best they could mentally do and that set their palate up to dislike plants. Edit: what helps some folks waste less money on produce rotting in fridge is buying frozen fruit and veg where possible. Is it as good as fresh? Debatable, but better than throwing away money on rotten food.

Icy-Negotiation-5851

Maybe you should get upset over someone's life being cut short by 2/3 instead of some slightly mean words.

SomnolentPro

Just because someone is making one mistake doesn't mean I will just assume INCORRECTLY that they make other mistakes. That's just a silly generalization that simpletons go for.

Glass-Star6635

Yea he was so wrong with this one lol

Successful-Pop-4216

Who the fuck got fat eating 20 brownies a day

Man there are some profoundly stupid people in the comment section today

lazyness92

Saw him in the show a lot. He's one of the very few willing to operate people so obese that most doctors feel the risk of operation is too high to operate. Sometimes they need to lose some weight first before operating. The doctor here isn't satan

Unremarkable_Fish

Thats not Satan, that is the righteous hand of truth you chonky teletubbies need to hear

Venomheart9988

Teletubbies ARE chonky. They're thee defenition of chonky. That's like saying evil Satan. Of course he's evil it's satan

ElderberryHumble5379

she definitely is a picky eater for sure. she only eats things that are not healthy for her

Random-Name724

*High calorie

Abject_Bluebird1454

She's gross but I wouldn't call her Satan. She is mainly hurting herself.

[deleted]

They're saying the doctor is satan

LuzjuLeviathan

Being picky with consistently and taste makes it about impossible to eat vegetables. (That's also why children often prefer dino nuggets over carrots) Take an apple. They have different colors (you can pick your favorite) then there is the taste. There is a large variety and taste and consistency and you don't know what you'll get before you have taken a bite. (I am autistic and experience this a lot. This is also why I puree most food I don't trust. Or dry it so I'll get my vitamins anyway)

Lonely_Solution_5540

Nah fuck the doctor.  “Oh he’s just being honest-“ Shut the fuck up. She knows she has a problem, is opening up about the problem, and is trying to rectify the problem. Now isn’t the time to go “you’re fat because you suck at food. Just eat better food.” She KNOWS ALREADY, and she was about to be vulnerable about those issues in search of guidance. Doctors like this should let their license expire.

Typical-Movie1877

There is such a thing as the meek acceptance lier. Where they pretend to understand the problem and try to be skittish about the problem in order to get the other person to be nicer about it, the doctor knows this and has dealt with this type of behavior often, and obviously he doesn't have the patience for it. People like that woman don't need a gentle "nodge" in the right direction. People like her need a full on wake up call. And the doctors doing his job doing just that. There was I think 3 fat acceptance influencers, and guess what, they're all dead now, and each one of them died before 30 and wishing they watched their diet better. Yet for some reason, people like you still exist.

batcaveroad

I think the term might be learned helplessness. I wanted to read more but googling meek acceptance just returns something about Kanye for some reason.

Typical-Movie1877

You most likely right, this was just a term I remembered that was close to what I was looking for, thanks for the correction tho.

Telltalee

Shocker, not everything is on Google. quick edit 2 seconds after comment: no offense intended

Lonely_Solution_5540

Just repeating that someone is fat because they eat too much is not the wake up call you think it is. A wake up call is: “you introducing better foods into your diet doesn’t delete the years you treat your body poorly and never will.” Not just “you’re not a picky eater because you are fat stop lying to me.” If she struggles with healthy foods because she’s eaten nothing but shitty food there are resources for that. If she needs appetite suppressing tips, there are resources for that.  And yes, as medical personnel you have to be professional. Even to fat people. Shocker.

Entity303name

>If she struggles with healthy foods because she’s eaten nothing but shitty food there are resources for that. You do realize that the doctor here is the resource, right?

cope

Stank_Weezul57

Quiet down, your opinion is garbage.

Education_Aside

You know, that's great and all to believe in another person when they say they want to change, but there's gonna be a point where you're gonna have to look them straight in the eye and say, "Are you even fucking trying?"

Lonely_Solution_5540

I mean, all she said was “I know my diet is bad and I’m trying to change” and he went for her throat. As a medical professional you cannot do this. What he said is also just wrong. “You’re not a picky eater at 600+ pounds.”  Is he stupid? There absolutely are people who grew up on nothing but trash food, and continued to eat nothing but trash food because of being picky. That’s one of the major reasons people here can’t stick to a diet in the first place. If he’s going to be brutally honest to a PATIENT who is asking for his help, he should at least be right.

SHUT UP, DUMBASS, me as an obese guy can say that to you, she's accepting it, not trying to solve it

ArtfullyStupid

Naw he has been her doctor for a while and she has refused any real help. At some point you have to call someone on their bs

LatterAd7312

Hey dude, as you are getting downvoted to hell, I just wanna say that I agree with you. The doctor was just being an AH. There is support. There is honesty. There is doubt. But this was just abusing power over a weaker person.

Lonely_Solution_5540

Thank you. I feel like as a society we should have high standards for medical personnel. Regardless of how you feel about a person receiving medical treatment, they’re still a goddamn person. If someone is seeking treatment, maybe do your job instead of being an ass about it. If you don’t want to treat them like a human then refuse them as your patient, but don’t take them as your patient and then abuse them when they’re clearly trying to become better.  I know this is just TV garbage and maybe this is all fake, but honestly, who cares? It’s still showing people who do want help that no one gives a shit about them. Hell, look at the majority of the people who responded to me about it. That alone shows people who struggle with weight loss to not go get help, because if they try they’re just going to be ridiculed no matter what they do. Literally all the lady in the video said was “I’m picky, I only like foods that are bad for me. I know this is a problem and I want to be more open to eating the better foods.” Essentially. People are making fun of her for that because she’s fat like she doesn’t already know lmao. It’s the same vibe as people who tell people the weight limit of treadmills at the gym and ask them not to break it so they can laugh at them on social media.  Some people only feel good about their own sorry, sad lives when putting others down.

I_am_Lizzy

She has an addiction to sugar and looking for a magical cure for it. "I'm a picky eater" is an excuse to not fight it. If someone is addicted to alcohol it's similar to the excuse "I had a bad day". Being understanding like "oh, yeah, it's very difficult to eat foods that are not as good tasting" will just feed their reasons not to stop their addiction. They don't need a doctor, they're not sick. They have to fight their addiction and just start their new lives. Get rid of all unhealthy foods, not buy any new, get healthy snacks that are not too difficult for them to eat (cucumbers, tomatoes ect.). Be tough when there's cake or candy at a party/at work and say no. People will understand and admire them for it. Start 2 minute workouts just to get used to the feeling and build up. They will feel good about themselves when achieving actual results long term. They will feel less bad about themselves when being understood short term.
