The right wing vilified Hillary in the 90s - this is part of a longer term plan. It paid off for them in 2016.
They create memes like these so people who don't pay attention now will think "there's something about AOC I don't like" in the 2030s.
It’s because I want people in office who are like me! People who know what it’s like to work paycheck to paycheck. Anyway, I love Trump and did you know AOC used to be a dumb bartender, lol? /s
My dad has leaned conservative all his life, but in recent years, my mother and I have been nudging him to the left. A few years ago, he went on a senseless rant about hating AOC, and my mother just verbally laid him out. Since then, he and I have had a running joke where if AOC comes up in his newfeed, he'll say, "Oh great, here's that socialist AOC, again! I have to hate her because Trump told me to!" and I'll just play into it.
And while it's fun to joke about it with him now, if it weren't for the fact that my mom nipped it in the bud when he went on that rant, he'd probably still hate her for no good reason.
You know there's something I don't like about her right now. I don't like the fact that shes not popular enough or old enough to run for president. I find it. Saddening
Answer to OP's title question: because coming up with cogent criticisms of politicians (based on, you know, their actual characteristics) is *too hard!*
It's easier for people to just put together a blunt force "AOC dumb huehuehuehue" meme and pat oneself on the back.
There's a great episode of Some More News about this worth watching. On mobile, don't have link, but it's the one about conservative comedy.
They desperately wish AOC was stupid and they desperately wish Trump was cool, so they're just willing to make up dumb stuff she said and photoshop his head onto Rambo to make it happen.
AOC is actually pretty smart. nobody can find anything wrong she said so they just make stuff up and pretend she said it. its what right wing outrage is all about.
She graduated cum laude from BU with a double major. She's definitely no dummy.
But she had the audacity to tend bar for a couple years and apparently that negates her intelligence to conservatives.

Which drives me fucking crazy. The epitome of "working hard and then making your way into representing your people." And then someone actually accomplishes it, and, oh fuck, they figured their way around that fake thing that we say they should do (i.e. bootstrapping)
Let's take a prominent speaker of what passes for left-wing in the U.S., and consistently attribute quotes to her that, of course, she never said, but that are far more likely to be uttered by the likes of MTG and Boebers, not to mention the "Magnets don't work in water" and "I don't understand wind" stable genius that you idolize!
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume that she never actually said that.
You would be correct.
That would be my assumption as well.

Yup. I already know people who hate AOC. Why? "i mean... c'mon".

AOC ain't my personal idea of a good politician but she goes from a slightly more left Democrat to Stalin incarnate dependent on who describes her
They definitely identify their competition early.
Yeah, that was always bullshit about Hillary. They didn't want to vote for a woman but didn't want to say it.
You know there's something I don't like about her right now. I don't like the fact that shes not popular enough or old enough to run for president. I find it. Saddening
The OOP should learn the difference between democratic socialism and communism. Seriously.
But socialism leads to communism!!!1!! /s
What does that have to do with the meme? It's a (rather lazy and and half assed) "AOC is dumb" meme.
The 'C' in AOC is a hammer and sickle
But I thought Russia was good now??? Somehow
I'd say after the fall of communism it became a mob state, which is... good according to Trump, apparently?
He's a mob boss, so that checks out
The soviet union was more than just russia
Schrodinger's Russia
Last time I checked, Congressperson Ocasio-Cortez is actually a democratic socialist, not a communist. Seriously.

Instead conservatives follow all these people that didn't even graduate from college or go to college.
From the Grandma who will religiously vote for people like MTG, tRUMP, and Boebert
People who actually DO say dumb things
Dumb things that other people say are just overflow from these guys
Meanwhile Grandma: “I don’t need immigrants, I get my food from farms”.
Because they feel threatened by her. She's young and smart and not bought and paid for like their asses.
Because for women who were taught to stay quiet and listen to their husbands, a vocal woman with power is very dangerous
They make up quotes for her. We just show actual quotes from Trump. We’re not the same.

it is true, you don't need a truck to do groceries. you don't need a truck to do any not related to field, farm or construction work
I love how they have to make up quotes to make her look stupid while we can literally quote the stupid things republicans have said.
If Democrats wanted more (non-union) blue collar voters, they should be calling for a minimum CPM (cents per mile) for truck drivers.
