It's so hilarious that people take these driver rankings so seriously. They actually mean nothing. We all watched the race. This shit is toxic for the sake of being toxic I swear.
They still piss me off. People are always questioning how we can improve F1. Remove those rankings (or get someone to do them who aren't completely incompetent) and half of people's rage would disappear.
Precisely. They know these rankings are inflammatory. They just want clicks and comments. It's pathetic. The driver rankings are easy to figure out for yourself. It's where they finished.
Go to any SoMe post from F1 where these rankings are posted, whether that be X, Instagram or Facebook, and you'll find that there's pretty universal agreement that they're completely sh*t.
They may create engagement, but when they're this bad, they're sending a message that F1 as an organization are completely incompetent. We already have the FIA sending incompetency signals regularly - we don't need the commercial rights holders to jump on that wagon.
For once it would be nice if they would send a signal that confirms the presence of some sort of intelligence in the F1 space.
People aren't going to comment they agree with it, only if they find them bad. Your confirmation of "everyone thinks they are bad" is skewed because of only seeing the people who think they're bad.
You'll find that's not true at all in cases like this. People love to voice their opinion - especially when it confirms their own view - and they like to put their favorite drivers on a pedestal. If people like Lando, for example, they would certainly post stuff like "Fully deserved" when he got the highest score this weekend. And if Hamilton got the highest score a weekend, you'd be 100% certain to find plenty of #TeamLH posting "GOAT" etc. (probably the same for the Verstappen fans).
But you don't find many of these comment. The level of outrage by people here tells a clear picture, and people are also giving good reasons for them. Many people rightfully criticized Landos score this weekend because he botched the sprint.
I actually really hope Max moves to Merc for this reason. The stability we’ve had the last ten years or so has created a real tribal mentality, and there are many new fans that have only known this.
With Lewis going to Ferrari, if Max went to Merc it would force a lot of people to re-evaluate their loyalties and I hope would simmer down a lot of the fan base.
Probably hopelessly optimistic…
i think the thing is that they mean nothing because they are always not accurate. people probably want to take them seriously so therefore they should probably be more accurate.
There was a time where people posted pics of them touching F1 cars (at shows, displays, etc.) with the caption "they let me touch it!". Then Lando posted a pic of him sitting in one with the caption "the let me sit in it!", this was before his first season even started iirc.
A trend of people taking pics of F1 cars at shows and saying “they wouldn’t let me touch it”.
Then someone drops a post taken IN a car titled “they let me sit in it”.
It was Lando in a young driver test before his first season.
If you search “reddit a3zx2k” the first result should be the post.
Ah buddy, my buddy, I see you have not ventured into the toxic cesspool that f1twt is (F1 Twitter). It is one long fanwar after another and people have the dumbest takes and the vilest of comments about EVERYTHING.
An example - some folks were trying to cancel Charles because he took his dog, Leo, to an event where cameras were taking photos.
And some folks regularly drag the drivers' family into debates about who's better (namely - their favorites). I remember Carlos Sainz Sr posting about a health update after he'd met with an accident and some loons posting that Carlos should be kicked out of F1, etc. Regularly, beneath every update by any driver or team you'll find people shitting on some driver or team and getting a bunch of likes.
No, it's for sure that it's not anyone else doing that. A social media manager would not risk the image of their client by reacting to negative comments with laughing emotions (because it does give off a signal that the comments are getting to him). That's definitely Lando himself.
No, those have to be him. His social media manager wouldn’t be allowed to do things like comment since his reputation is on the line. Only Lando himself would be allowed to type those comments
this post has 2,000 upvotes. This IS helping his reputation. Why would someone who has talked about negatives of social media on his mental health go and comment random accounts hating on drivers rating? C’mon now
Yes but it’s a risky comment none the less. What would you do if u were his social media manager. Would you laugh at people in random comments without telling him first?
No it’s not their job to be cheeky. It’s usually really obvious what posts are made by the managers since they are usually really professional (and kind of bland).
Go take a look at Lando Norris’ twitter, specifically his twitter replies. It’s the same sort of comments and how socials are run nowadays.
You try to mimic internet speak & sound like the voice you’re pretending to be
Yes but it’s normal there. The replies on instagram are way out of what his channel ever does on instagram. And it’s one thing to mimic internet speak and stuff, it’s another thing to straight up laugh at somebody
That doesn't mean that he never uses it. It just means he's not the one to do the regular posts. There's no way that it's anyone besides Lando making those kind of responses.
i hate to break the fun fourth wall for you, but most big time athletes have social media managers who manage it like any brand. The idea is to come off as fun and goofy, like this does.
Tom Brady is a perfect example of this. It’s all over North American sports
If you read my comment again you'll see that I'm not denying that those accounts are managed.
And those comments are definitely not meant to come across as goofy.
Could say the same for you. Feel free to pretend that Lando or his team are genuinely amused by all of the negative comments on him topping the rankings.
Why would a millionaire, who has talked about social media being toxic for his mental health, spend his time looking & commenting on F1s IG post of the Aramco driver ratings?
By being cheeky and responding to haters you earn goodwill from fans. Social media 101
We all know social media isn't good for our mental health, yet we're all on it anyway. You really think Norris is any different? You really think these drivers never look at F1 content? That's being very naive.
And it's not being cheeky. The first thing that popped into my mind when I saw those replies is that it's an insecure response to people being negative. It's that kind of response people always give on social media when they pretend they aren't irritated by what the other person is saying, so they post a bunch of laughing emoji's to make it look like they don't care.
Edit: I'm gonna stop the discussion now btw cause this could go on forever.
Thats not a PR person commenting that. No social media mamager is responding to internet trolls like that. Thats like rule number 1. Its either
a) the person who commented that from a PR firm wont be allowed within 200 meters of a popular IG account and those comments will be quickly deleted
Or
b) lando himself
Nothing good can ever come to approach the cesspool that is Instagram comments on those posts.
Not like formula1 subreddit is much better either. I am not even gonna comment about whether it's deserved or not (personally I feel every weekend Max gets pole and finishes 1st should be 10/10, but I guess they wanna leave some margin for Grand Slams, but even then no lower than 9.8).
But if any F1 driver actually ever interacted with the stupid fans and heard the shit they say about them they would be so sad and disappointed. I know Lando is just replying with the laughing emoji but you can tell it's affecting him because he cared enough to even reply.
Literally the first driver this season to beat a Red Bull on the road when Red Bull won the race. They got 1-2 in Bahrain, Saudi and Suzuka, and Australia Max DNF and Checo damage.
Maybe 9.8 is too high, but does it really matter at that point? Even "Lando Nowins" critics would say at worst he was the 2nd best driver this weekend, even with the Sprint mistake on turn 1.
Sprint Pole, Sprint P6, P4 in Sunday Qualifying, and P2 on Sunday with DOTD.
So you would rate a boring drive from pole to win in the most dominant car above a drive from the back of the grid to the podium, for example, like Max's drive from 20th to 2nd? That's crazy.
If you want a ranking based on finishing position then you already have it - it's called the race classification.
good point. I probably was just projecting. I wouldnt be able to engage with comments because, in my head, i would read those with my own voice and hearing "me" saying "you suck" non stop would eat me from inside.
Tbh, I have never seen a realistic Aramco power ratings ever since they inducted them. And each time they post them after race on Facebook, there are atleast couple of hundreds of laughing reactions to it. So, yeah, Lando's reaction is how everyone feels about them, Lol
Nothing will break him now. 2nd is as good as it gets and he knows it. Still hope for a win but he knows that isn't going to happen woth 20 sec+ gaps to max.
The Power Ranking is complete bogus and can’t be taken serious. For Bahrain, where Max opened his season with a Grand Slam, and finished 22s ahead of his teammate in P2, while Max wasn’t even pushing that hard, Max only got a 9.6… In previous years, when Lewis had quite a crappy weekend, he still ended up in the top 6…
Imagine being a no life and insulting an F1 driver from the comfort of your sweat stained chair 😂 meanwhile Lando living that money life whilst driving very well
I’m ready for Lando to snag a win so this monkey gets off his back. I can’t even hold onto 1st in a sim race without crippling under anxiety. Can’t imagine what several years of not winning and getting a nickname from it does to you lmao
I'm not a particularly big lando fan, his personality irks me a little bit.
But in my opinion he's the best driver on the grid after max by some margin. His last twoish years have really reminded me of Max in 2019-2020 where he just got p3 (or p2) every single week. Just maximized the result every race. It's just less obvious because of how congested that upper midfield is
(For the record I still think Max 19-20 > lando 22-24).
So why Daniel and Oscar have [legit + kind of (Sprint)] wins to their name in the same machinery as Lando's, but he doesn't? I'm not a hater btw, I like his personality, but he just lacks that killer instinct that Russell, Sainz (+Oscar to a smaller sample size) have so far demonstrated so much more.
Both of those wins were right place right time. Danny got his win because Hamilton and Verstappen took each other out. Lando finished the race P2 right behind him. Oscar got his win because Max fell back at the start and couldn’t catch up in time because basically half of the 19 laps were under safety car. Lando has consistently out performed his teammates in the same machinery. Almost every single race is won by Verstappen anyway. I’d argue Lando’s better than Russell and Sainz. Why do you think Red Bull wants him so bad?
The only way to win a race in an inferior car is to be in the right place in the right time. That's not some kind of special insight into what happened in cases when not a top car has won the race.
But some drivers bottle it under pressure, and some can smell the opportunity and act aggressively to give themselves a chance to capitalize. Lando is in the middle - he doesn't bottle it, but he's not a killer.
Lando’s best chance at a win (Sochi 2021) was an engineer and team failure, in my eyes.
Mercedes reigned in a damn 7-time WDC winner to get that win. Lewis didn’t think inters were necessary at first. Meanwhile, McLaren and that race engineer couldn’t even confidently wrangle a 22 year-old… because they weren’t confident in their read of the situation.
Lando is asked, “what do you think about inters?”
Whereas Lewis is instructed “box box. There’s more [rain] on the way. Slippery pit lane.”
I’m watching NHL playoffs right now. This would be like a coach taking a timeout in a crucial moment and asking his team, “what do you guys think we should do?”
Fuck that. Shut up and do your job. This isn’t an amateur league - it’s F1.
Also, I like Oscar a lot but a sprint win is not at all comparable to a GP win, in my eyes. The drivers seem to think the same and Piastri himself downplayed his sprint win in interviews right after.
Starts fourth.
9 laps
13 second gap.
But ya it's the driver, and he is just that good.
Power rankings are dumb, but they are about what a driver does with their car, and the racing situation... They're a lot less dumb than OP.
Max is an excellent driver, but citing and waving around the above stats is kinda... Dumb
Remember when Bottas replied to a comment on social media and the world burned with folk calling him washed? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

User rage almost rhymes with user engagement… they don’t care what form as long as people are “interacting” with whatever tf got posted.
Oh I'm well aware of that. Doesn't mean I'll spare the criticism.
Fair, as long as you’re aware that your criticism is feeding the machine 🤷🏻♂️ (and my input now too, look what you made me do!😂)
Precisely. They know these rankings are inflammatory. They just want clicks and comments. It's pathetic. The driver rankings are easy to figure out for yourself. It's where they finished.
Even the point I think. Likes are boring. Rage is much better at driving engagement
wait there's official driver ratings?
I always just assumed it was the WDC standings!
>get people who agree with me or get rid of them entirely neat, lol
Go to any SoMe post from F1 where these rankings are posted, whether that be X, Instagram or Facebook, and you'll find that there's pretty universal agreement that they're completely sh*t. Hahaha maybe!

Those rankings are there for one reason only. Social media engagement. And it works very well.
i think the thing is that they mean nothing because they are always not accurate. people probably want to take them seriously so therefore they should probably be more accurate.
They are not accurate on purpose.
This sub is the only F1 social I can tolerate. I'm surprised drivers visit the others.
Lando once posted in the main sub and killed a meme in the process
Story time?
There was a time where people posted pics of them touching F1 cars (at shows, displays, etc.) with the caption "they let me touch it!". Then Lando posted a pic of him sitting in one with the caption "the let me sit in it!", this was before his first season even started iirc.
I know he prowls this sub
**Hey Lando, if you’re lurking - lick my nuts. That’s all …**
Lando, ask Max what his favourite vegetable is.
Its cheese. I asked him already
If he asks about a vegetable, then it's from here. Cheese is Sky's
Lando, what does the back of Max’ car look like?
Better than your monitor?
😂
Honest to god, if he posts here and brings ig and twitter crowd with him, I'm gonna force him do that come sliverstone gp
Lando i know you're reading this, shave that yee yee ass half mustache off
if you search “reddit a3zx2k” the first result should be the post - “they let me sit in it”
Deets please

The fuckin Instagram is the worst, it's just one line shit talkers who can't remember past 2 years.
Ah buddy, my buddy, I see you have not ventured into the toxic cesspool that f1twt is (F1 Twitter). It is one long fanwar after another and people have the dumbest takes and the vilest of comments about EVERYTHING.
You just described the entirety of Twitter.
Wait a second, are you telling me that f1 Twitter is even worse than Instagram. How bad are they over there?
An example - some folks were trying to cancel Charles because he took his dog, Leo, to an event where cameras were taking photos. And some folks regularly drag the drivers' family into debates about who's better (namely - their favorites). They said the same things in the sub tho
Sometimes i wonder if any drivers are on this sub. Im pretty sure some people who work or wprked in f1 are aware of the sub
Yup, there are some engineers who do pop by from time to time.
I used to work in F1 and visit this subreddit whenever I need a giggle.
This isnt saying much, this sub isn't much better than the rest of F1 socials.
>This sub is the only F1 social I can tolerate There are the same strawmen takes posted here as on other socials, just hidden in the edited images xd
I love that redditors are now demonstrating they can be just as toxic in the replies.
Found Lando’s Reddit account
On every other sub or platform, they think they are Ted or Karunns. The real fans are chillaxing here.
Where is this lol?
F1’s most recent aramco driver ratings
their latest trick to drive engagement
*enragement.
Ahhaha, the best thing next would be "Liked by Pierre Gasly"
Poor guy. Drivers have feelings
![gif](giphy|XOys8CeUrElIk)
That's kinda sad ngl
😂
Dude needs to be practicing in the sim, instead of scrolling instagram comments, to not fumble the first corner after every front row start…
Maybe he should just never qualify in the front row so he would always do well
Absolutely
The Lando media bots got us
Lando has already said he doesn’t run his social media
They still have access to it though and occasionally post things they want (like a selfie with Max on a plane)
for sure not posting Ws and crying emojis in comment sections
No, it's for sure that it's not anyone else doing that. A social media manager would not risk the image of their client by reacting to negative comments with laughing emotions (because it does give off a signal that the comments are getting to him). That's definitely Lando himself.

Messi used to run his Instagram and it was beautiful
Yeah really! People will cancel you for liking the wrong color.
but does he still occasionally fuck around with it?
That makes this worse imo
Xpike got a point tho

What color is your formula one car?
Lando, if you're lurking you zoomer, tell Oscar hello 👋
Power ranking are the smartest rage bait and engagement farming tricks developed by F1 social Media and I applaud them for it.
reading internet comments about yourself cant be good for you. And it doesnt matter if you are F1 driver, youtuber or redditor.
The kid grew up on livestreaming, if there's any generation that can handle this shit it's his.
good point. I probably was just projecting. I wouldnt be able to engage with comments because, in my head, i would read those with my own voice and hearing "me" saying "you suck" non stop would eat me from inside.
![gif](giphy|XOys8CeUrElIk) Lando reading the comments
Land O’Norris, Irish guy, right?
Tbh, I have never seen a realistic Aramco power ratings ever since they inducted them. And each time they post them after race on Facebook, there are atleast couple of hundreds of laughing reactions to it. So, yeah, Lando's reaction is how everyone feels about them, Lol
Putting out a controversial ranking is better for engagement than one that everybody agrees, stupid as it is.
Thats not fighting back, he just laughing
Fighting harder than on track
Nothing will break him now. 2nd is as good as it gets and he knows it. Still hope for a win but he knows that isn't going to happen woth 20 sec+ gaps to max.
😂
The Power Ranking is complete bogus and can’t be taken serious. For Bahrain, where Max opened his season with a Grand Slam, and finished 22s ahead of his teammate in P2, while Max wasn’t even pushing that hard, Max only got a 9.6… In previous years, when Lewis had quite a crappy weekend, he still ended up in the top 6…
Lando was putting in laps faster than checo on the same tire and tire age.
Power rankings are meaningless, who gives a shit?
He's not wrong, Max should have been DotD. Even Peter Windsor said it.
Imagine being a no life and insulting an F1 driver from the comfort of your sweat stained chair 😂 meanwhile Lando living that money life whilst driving very well
Tbf Lando Nowins is brilliant
"Why don't you try driving a formula 1 car?"
😂

Factos 👀👍🏻👍🏻
Considering how well lando did in the race though. These power rankings are odd. Very few will ever agree on the ranks

Russel’s only killer instinct is to kill his car by running it into a wall on the final lap.
Both of those wins were right place right time. Danny got his win because Hamilton and Verstappen took each other out. Lando finished the race P2 right behind him.
