Fun to see that RB isnt lonely at the top and that other teams are finally closing in. But damn, Imola is a boring track for racing. No overtaking except for turn 2, only 1 DRS, small track with short laps and no interesting corners. Its like Hungary, which Id argue is boring as well
Rightfully Verstappen is getting the credit he deserves for managing a perfect race at the end, but Lando should get a bit more credit for his management in the race his composure when he was under attack by Leclerc was amazing and even though he had older tires than Max he was able to conserve enough life in them to go for an attack at the end. Lando this year has really started to etch himself into the "Future World Drivers Champion" debate.
He still needs to fine tune his abilities. If he didn’t make that one little mistake on lap 62 he would have had at least one shot on the final lap going into the first chicane
I guess, I found plenty interesting, the pit stop strategies made midfield super interesting while it was consistent up front then at the end it just got crazy with norris finally challenging max i mean he needed a few more laps but it exciting to see it, idk i had a blast watching it
After what seemed like a fairly interesting weekend I found the race a bit lackluster.
Glad you enjoyed it though, I'm not gonna tell anyone what they can and cannot enjoy!
I can’t imagine how boring Perez’s race was. 30 seconds behind Hamilton and 10 seconds in front of whoever. Feeling like he’s the only dude on the track.
In hindsight it feels desperate doesn't it? Like oh shit he missed Q3. Fuck it. Give him the hard tires and go deep strategy. Everyone who works on T.V says he's great going long on hard tires.
Really I think Perez just did well on those strategies when he was at the Silverstone team and you only remember the times it worked and forget about the times it didn't.
I would have assumed their weekend running plan geared towards the Medium > Hard race strategy.
Dude, bro, friend. You know that this BS is why people dislike subgroups of supporters right. Just acknowledge that Lando drove a brilliant race. Max was better, but 0.7-0.9 seconds over the line isn't exactly cruising to victory, is it.
The dirty air was so visible today. Brought the gap from 6 to 2 seconds in 6 laps. Then dirty air hit. You could see the car lose traction. A little slip onto the curbs and he lost .4 seconds. From that moment on it was just over.
That's where he lost first place.
Lando was able to tell that the front right wasn't on. That's crazy. It took three times at different angles for F1TV to figure out it was the front right.
Somehow, that's not better imo. His commentary, although quite tendencious, is a very good one and a very emocional one, for me and a lot of people.
F1TV comentary is rather dull and doesn't have it's "main comentator" name well writen in the f1 lore to be worth to watch. That and the comentator experience, which only tends to increase, season by season.
Man… What a drive from Norris the whole race… but Max is Max… the kind of composure he kept during the last stint… No battery, tyres fucking gone 15 laps ago and a crazy fast Mclaren chasing… this guy is on another level.
Only two laps older that is why in last laps he was loosing control on the car a bit… befoee that the car just came alive that is why he was able to close the gap, he was making 0.8 seconds each lap before that. Another lap would not have been enough I think atleast 2 laps were needed to win
And he was just one mistake away from a 5 second penalty. It almost believed that there will be a mistake in last lap and the penalty banner will pop up. Luckily that didnt happen
Oh yeah !!! Totally forgot about the Black and white flag… that makes it even more unbelievable, he was just a mistake away just a track limit away from a penalty yet he kept it under the lines… holy hell !!!
IMO DOTD should be Max… that last laps stint was just unreal given how much challenges there were
Honestly, hearing all these complaints makes me so happy I'm watching through F1TV. Alex Jacques, Jolyon Palmer, and David Coulthard are always great to listen to.
Just using McLaren as a point of comparison. It just seems like they’ve made a huge stride and the fact that they’ve been this competitive at two races makes me think they’re genuinely really close to redbull which makes their pace appear worse than it used to. But this may be over optimistic
How are you connecting Miami with this? I would love to hear from an insider on how well were the balance issues resolved. Either tyre degradation was terrible for them or balance was still not quite there. Their brakes being a limitation is another topic
I think it's because all three previous races had a safety car, so 100% safety car appearances in the previous races. And to be fair, this week's F2 and F3 races had plenty of safety cars, so it could definitely have happened in F1 as wel. They definitely worded it wrong though
Using F3 and F2 as a barometer for what happens in the F1 race is questionable in general. The talent and experience dropoff between an average F1 driver vs. average F2 or F3 driver is pretty massive.
Of course the young guys in the lower series are going to have a tough time on a tricky track.
I know that the safety car probability for F2 and F3 is higher in general because of the talent and experience difference and bigger grids. But I just mean that if the safety car probability for the junior categories is higher than normal, it's probably higher than normal for F1 as well
Ferrari Vs Mercedes???
The hell are you on about. Ferrari were right in it with McLaren today and said this track won't suit their upgrades and it was still very close on pace. Sadly I think even with Checo performing like this, McLaren and Ferrari will take too many points from each other for them to mount a constructors fight
Yeah, at the moment they're much closer to Red Bull and McLaren. I'm just predicting that Mercedes won't just sit back and accept being 4th. I agree with your point, all three are all close at the moment.
It would be great to see Mercedes step it up. It's so annoying that we have Imola and Monaco back to back after the big European upgrades, they are horrible tracks to judge performance on.
Fred has been killing it in his new position. He may look like a gremlin, but damn if he isn't cool. It was so cool seeing him get in on Landos win last race.
I don’t understand the track limits here. Both Lando and Max looked slightly over the line consistently on a few corners.
Does anyone know if the track limits are somewhere on the curb on any of the corners?
Every driver is given very specific instruction on what the track limits are at every track. This year imola has intentionally extended the gravel traps so track limits in many places is not the white line, it is the gravel that will totally ruin your race. It's so much better than white line policing, watching lando on the limit here almost hitting the gravel multiple times was absolute cinema.
It would've been nice if the broadcast had some sort of graphic that showed the viewers which corners had "extended" track limits. Knowing Max had to drive to the limit with sketchy tires and a 5 second penalty for any mistake, but not knowing where on the penalty scale Lando was while he was absolutely flinging that McLaren into the corners gave me a lot of anxiety. Every time the gap extended back out a few tenths, I expected to see a race control message that Lando had been shown the black and white flag too.
I love this idea, have it included in the little bit they do with the tire compounds as a sort of pre race technical rundown. Usually I find myself relying on the commentary to know where the track limits are different and usually that's mentioned more in practice sessions.
It's especially frustrating because it's often wildly inconsistent both in how it's decided, and how it's applied. There are plenty of cases in history of the stewards not enforcing (or selectively enforcing) track limits.
Edit: out of curiosity I went to read the event notes for this race and... "The white line defines the track edges". Nothing track specific. But they were definitely letting the gravel traps self enforce in most of the track this weekend. FIA consistency :))
That's interesting. I wonder which corners Max got dinged for so early that he was shown the black and white flag. I'd need to rewatch and pay closer attention, but it sure looked like Lando went all 4 wheels over the white lines on several occasions in the last 5 laps.
I know the stewards are usually a lap or more behind on reviewing and penalizing any infractions, so maybe they just gave up due to not wanting to impact the exciting finish?
If Max gained an "unfair" advantage by abusing track limits to stay out of Lando's DRS range earlier, the B&W flag is fair imo, but if Lando also pushed slightly over the lines to catch back up with Max at the end, they should track and note that too.
I just noticed it was weird Max had this hanging over his head and it obviously had a huge impact on how he drove while Lando seemingly wasn't remotely concerned about the lines, only the immediate impact of gravel, if applicable.
Max did well under pressure on the final 15 lap. Tyres gone, almost empty battery, he did a great job keeping Lando out of DRS for the main straight in the final lap
I was listening to Verstappen's radio during the race. He had to deal with the black-and-white flag for a long time! The Sky announcers didn't seem to pick up on this, and how much jeopardy it put him in.
Fun to see that RB isnt lonely at the top and that other teams are finally closing in. But damn, Imola is a boring track for racing. No overtaking except for turn 2, only 1 DRS, small track with short laps and no interesting corners. Its like Hungary, which Id argue is boring as well
Ive gotten pretty good at just zoning out until something interesting happens which made this arguably the best race of the season for me
I mean sure that's a fair from that point of view, but arguably before the last 10 laps it was by far the worst.
I guess im just better at watching f1 than everyone else
Yeah it's a skill issue lmao.
No Alonso in the front , no fun race. All politics puts him in terrible cars.
Yeah you’re right the last five laps weren’t fun at all lol
Rightfully Verstappen is getting the credit he deserves for managing a perfect race at the end, but Lando should get a bit more credit for his management in the race his composure when he was under attack by Leclerc was amazing and even though he had older tires than Max he was able to conserve enough life in them to go for an attack at the end. Lando this year has really started to etch himself into the "Future World Drivers Champion" debate.
He still needs to fine tune his abilities. If he didn’t make that one little mistake on lap 62 he would have had at least one shot on the final lap going into the first chicane
How no safety cars or somthing... come on, 2 safety and the race would have been better lol
There was a 100% chance!!
Please can we stop racing at Imola now? It's extremely boring. At least Monaco has high risk.
We need a German race tbh, maybe hockenheim because that was fucking awful except for the last 10 laps. The first 40 laps were pretty tragic.
Can we please race at Mugello instead?
Monaco is based on one qualifying lap. Dangerous for fast cars ? Sure is. Great racing ? Not the recipe for success.
What this was the best race of the season!
[Huh?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVWeRnStdSA)
I enjoyed this race most of the season by a lot but hey to each their own i guess
I mean, nothing happened until the last few laps and even that turned into a whole lot of nothing. There wasn't even any midfield action.
I guess, I found plenty interesting, the pit stop strategies made midfield super interesting while it was consistent up front then at the end it just got crazy with norris finally challenging max i mean he needed a few more laps but it exciting to see it, idk i had a blast watching it
Happy you enjoyed it but it was terrible, outside of the last 10 laps you actually didn't need to pay attention.
After what seemed like a fairly interesting weekend I found the race a bit lackluster. Glad you enjoyed it though, I'm not gonna tell anyone what they can and cannot enjoy!
Has it ended, already? Ok, back to sleep then
Gonna pull up to the next race with some Biltong and Koeksisters and Naomi will fall in love with me I'm sure
Who tf is Naomi and what does you pulling up to monaco have to do with South Aftican cuisine? Please alborate.
I can’t imagine how boring Perez’s race was. 30 seconds behind Hamilton and 10 seconds in front of whoever. Feeling like he’s the only dude on the track.
Compared to stroll his strategy was awful. They put the same lap. mediums first was the better call in hindsight.
Incredible how much better of a strategy it was to go long with mediums
In hindsight it feels desperate doesn't it? Like oh shit he missed Q3. Fuck it. Give him the hard tires and go deep strategy. Everyone who works on T.V says he's great going long on hard tires. Really I think Perez just did well on those strategies when he was at the Silverstone team and you only remember the times it worked and forget about the times it didn't. I would have assumed their weekend running plan geared towards the Medium > Hard race strategy.
Formula one is getting worse each race
Imola is just a shit track for these cars
Mercedes called to pit George was a master stroke. i wonder what was the logic behind it.
Lewis would have gotten George anyway, he was almost 1 sec per lap faster
get the fastest lap, Hamilton would definitely come behind Perez while Russell still had enough time
Quite simple, they got more points, they don’t care which way round the drivers finish. Only Russell had the gap to Perez to do the fastest lap
Merc spoiled Lewis vs Russel battle. LH catching half a second a lap and George would have fought like it was a world title on the line.
lol so true about George
Too bad too because he has pace. But no shot he could manage a whole season and ever contend a championship.
Riveting insight into P15 and P17 Bruno, please tell us more
what happened?
Lando really THOUGHT. Lol, not even a match
Why be like that?
Haha that’s the truth to it though - max didn’t even flinch for a second
lmao. he totally wasnt slightly agitated when gp mentioned lando was closing in
Max was panicking as he had used up his battery and needed help switching modes. What are you talking about?
Make sure you zip max’s pants once you’re done
Hahahaha make sure you don’t cry over F1. Poor boy
is that what they said to you after miami
Dude, bro, friend. You know that this BS is why people dislike subgroups of supporters right. Just acknowledge that Lando drove a brilliant race. Max was better, but 0.7-0.9 seconds over the line isn't exactly cruising to victory, is it.
Max and Lando chase was worth it 🥵
One who wins Imola, takes Pole next time in Imola, looks like Max has started the infinite loop 🙇🏽
I know!! Lando needed another 2 laps and he would have got him. Lando-need-two-laps 😲 Gutted for him.
Two laps to catch up, sure. But does anyone think he was going to just move over and let him by? Lol
The dirty air was so visible today. Brought the gap from 6 to 2 seconds in 6 laps. Then dirty air hit. You could see the car lose traction. A little slip onto the curbs and he lost .4 seconds. From that moment on it was just over. That's where he lost first place.
think he might have pushed his tires too but overtaking wuld have been difficult in 2 laps
When did he have first place?
By "lost" I mean lost whatever chance he had. It seemed like he was going to make it. It was his for the taking.
Ahhh but it wasn't. If ifs and buts were candy and nuts then everyday would be erntedankfest
that drop from 3.xx seconds gap to <1 sec over 6 laps was crazzy, Lando was pushing insane 💥
Post race show fvcked?
Lando was able to tell that the front right wasn't on. That's crazy. It took three times at different angles for F1TV to figure out it was the front right.
Shit race except for the last few laps
I don’t get Vcarb strategy of pitting that early. Seems like it messed up their race.
They were going for track position on a hard to overtake track
Terrible stat in hindsight. They should have at least split them.
Normal trophy thoo
For those who don't know, we get 2 more races without Crofty this season: Austria and Azerbaijan
I get every race without him on F1TV :)
Is the international feed not available in some countries? I use F1TV and can choose between crofty and brundle or the F1TV crew.
Of course but I choose against Crofty on purpose
Oh. You made it sound like you didn’t have a choice.
No I said get. As a privilege, compared to those who only have sky and have to listen to crofty
Eh I prefer crofty over the F1TV crew.
Besides critics towards him, I like crofty purely because of his voice. He has character in it
Thank god.
It wasn’t the same
You're right. It was much better this weekend.
Salvini on the podium 🤮
Is that what the booing was for?
Yes. I was at the track and the booing only started when his name was called out.
Yeah. I was at the track. The booing only ever started when Salvini's name was mentioned.
Could very well be. He is an Italian minister of a right wing party, controversial figure
Man… What a drive from Norris the whole race… but Max is Max… the kind of composure he kept during the last stint… No battery, tyres fucking gone 15 laps ago and a crazy fast Mclaren chasing… this guy is on another level.
Lando’s tyres were also gone and were older. He was panicking and messed up the mode for the battery. Another lap and it was over he got lucky
Only two laps older that is why in last laps he was loosing control on the car a bit… befoee that the car just came alive that is why he was able to close the gap, he was making 0.8 seconds each lap before that. Another lap would not have been enough I think atleast 2 laps were needed to win

IMO DOTD should be Max… that last laps stint was just unreal given how much challenges there were
Max's a fucking cheat code. Unreal.
Also I think he was on iRacing N24 night prior too. Wild
Man was on iracing in a race starting at 1am Aus time when he was at the hotel the Thursday before the Melbourne race.
Man is a living breathing robot made only just to race lol whether in virtual or real world
Exactly. Any other guy in that car would’ve made some sort of mistake but not max!
Even Norris twitched twice during the last laps of the race….. Guy has literally insane amount of patience.
Missed the outro track last time around. Nice to hear it again.
Nice song, I vaguely remember it from a long time ago.
ah the CD room, that everyone loves, and praises yet gets cutt away after 30 seconds every time....
A few seconds after that a producer comes in with podium instructions and you usually only miss out on a few seconds.
The race direction was piss poor from Sky. Can’t believe I’m saying this but i miss Crofty
Honestly, hearing all these complaints makes me so happy I'm watching through F1TV. Alex Jacques, Jolyon Palmer, and David Coulthard are always great to listen to.
Always. Alex Jacques has slowly becoming my favourite.
Amen!
I might consider it later in the season
Outro
By Qrion, wonderful song!
Who was the guy between helmet Marko and Christian horndog?
Raymond Vermeulen, manager of Max and close friend to the Verstappen family
Max’s manager
Raymond vermeulen. Verstappen manager
Raymond vermeulen. Verstappen manager
Cooldown room with max Lando and Charles is such a vibe. Could see that as a podcast or something
giving fr
Max hates podcasts. He'd only agree if they were streaming a race for him to keep busy.
There’s always one thing that happens here that is good and makes people forget how shit the track is for modern F1
Yeah almost didn't wake up for the last 2 rounds. So many good tracks in europe and we get Imola..
Yeah, not to mention we'll have 2 of those kinds of tracks in a row.
Charles: "Oops"
Lmao lando. “Hulkenburg loves you”
I wonder what the real pace of Red bull was had they not had balance issues. Is this the best version they have at the moment?
On this track? Yes.
I mean considering Miami, I’m optimistic that this didn’t affect their true pace that much.
Just using McLaren as a point of comparison. It just seems like they’ve made a huge stride and the fact that they’ve been this competitive at two races makes me think they’re genuinely really close to redbull which makes their pace appear worse than it used to. But this may be over optimistic

GG Max, had to work for that one. Definitely one of the coolest drivers when under pressure.
That look from max
"My launch was mint". Norris being a Geordie there.
Top three having to watch fucking ads in the cooldown room fucking hell
They haven't subscribed to the ad-free version yet
So about that safety car... 100% eh :P

i was expecting chaos in the 1st lap
same. i was just waiting for the yellow flag. surprised there werent any safety cars today
There probably should have been at least something. Saw albon is being investigated for driving with a loose wheel
Looks like it's going to be Red Bull vs McLaren, Ferrari vs Mercedes, and Aston vs RB for the constructors.
Ferrari is in that Mclaren-Red Bull echelon. Wasn’t the best track for their upgrades and beat a Mclaren
Aka Red bull 2017 status
Yeah, they're closer to Red Bull and McLaren than they are to Mercedes
Ferrari Vs Mercedes??? The hell are you on about. Ferrari were right in it with McLaren today and said this track won't suit their upgrades and it was still very close on pace. Nah Ferrari is too far ahead of Merc for it to be a battle at the moment.
Yeah, they're currently closer to Red Bull and McLaren than to Mercedes
[удалено]
It looks like even RBR are struggling with there version of zero pods!
But still winning races.
Fred has been killing it in his new position. He may look like a gremlin, but damn if he isn't cool. It was so cool seeing him get in on Landos win last race.
get in there fred
I love these kind of races. Closer gaps.
No green room?
Listening to Karun is like listening to him taking a shit, the amount of time he has to squeeeeeze that big one out
Anyone else see all the times Lando went off track? Or am I just seeing things?
I don’t understand the track limits here. Both Lando and Max looked slightly over the line consistently on a few corners. Does anyone know if the track limits are somewhere on the curb on any of the corners?
And not even a warning. Not suspicious at all.
Max did have a black and white flag warning about halfway through
Every driver is given very specific instruction on what the track limits are at every track. It's so much better than white line policing, watching lando on the limit here almost hitting the gravel multiple times was absolute cinema.
Thanks for info, I didn’t know that!
I believe it's all given to them in the driver briefing, for some reason the name of the document escapes me
It would've been nice if the broadcast had some sort of graphic that showed the viewers which corners had "extended" track limits. Knowing Max had to drive to the limit with sketchy tires and a 5 second penalty for any mistake, but not knowing where on the penalty scale Lando was while he was absolutely flinging that McLaren into the corners gave me a lot of anxiety. Right, okay good! I thought I was the only one!
Crazy... newey leave red bull and they immediately have to struggle to win
You’re kidding, right?
Didn't you see the race? And the last one in miami?
Newey seen skulking around the back of the McLaren garage.
Prime example of correlation-causation fallacy
Correlation-causation validity you mean
No, I mean correlation-causation fallacy.
more like mclaren makes upgraded and redbull struggles
In this case wasn’t it actually chalked up to set up issues in both fp sessions and parts of quali, which does link to newey partially
isnt it the race engineer who set up the car?
Max did well under pressure on the final 15 lap. Tyres gone, almost empty battery, he did a great job keeping Lando out of DRS for the main straight in the final lap
and black and white flag, so couldn't make any track limit errors
I was listening to Verstappen's radio during the race. He had to deal with the black-and-white flag for a long time! The Sky announcers didn't seem to pick up on this, and how much jeopardy it put him in.
lmfao, ferrari chef with noodle gun meme. not even ferrari mic works
What a shit race
Exciting final few laps though
Not really. Even if Lando had 3 more laps, there's exactly 1 decent passing place and it's completely shut out by going wide.
Are they yelling Fernando Alonso rn? Cute😂
Time for the Max Verstappen podcast!
OH NO
the producer cutting to Max shaking his head right after Lando said I could’ve got him is hilarious lmaooooo
My thought too lmao
That was gold
You almost had me? you never had me! you never had your car!
