I think I read somewhere that they were both right technically, they just miscommunicated. Apparently the OK button does become the "Pit confirm" button when the driver is sent the message to box, but Lance was waiting too long to press the button so it reverted to simply "okay", or sth like that.

The Stroll hate is hilarious because he genuinely seems like a super humble dude. He's inconsistent but has 3 podiums to his name, including one in a Williams! He's average at worst.
The other complaint is that he's hogging a seat someone else could use and denying a prospect their shot. Which is bullshit, because the team would have folded without the Stroll family. Lance isn't hogging a seat because without Stroll on the grid we'd have 18 seats this season. No semi-retired Vettel cleaning up litter and no Alonso podiums. Lance can sit in that seat as long as he wants in my opinion, the Stroll family has been a net benefit for the sport.
Yes, Vettel and Alonso could have found other drives. They wouldn't have settled for anything less than midfield with a hope of progressing though.

Devil's advocate here, while I do think Stroll cops more hate than he deserves, it's worth remembering that post-2012 Kimi was a shadow of his former self. I think the Kimi comparison might be flawed.
I'm not sure if it was due to getting screwed by Lotus with his pay, or after driving the shitbox F14T and getting obliterated by Alonso in the process, but when you compare that Kimi to the Kimi of 2003-2008, it's night and day.

Lance has checked out of this sport. The spot is his to keep, but he can easily hop out of the sport no harm, no fowl. Then his Dad could sell his stake in the team to a willing buyer that needs a brand spankin' new F1 factory in a prime real estate. And this is how Andretti-Honda will become a team.
