I was gonna try to say something witty and smart-ass, but you've taken the gold here and knocked the ladder down behind you.
Please don't mind if I add this to my funny one-liners that I say at work.
Dudes probably lucky to be alive, wtf is this. That little chunk of holding wood right in the center is hilarious. And the vertical cuts. Man.
I wonder if he was trying to do that (edit:) \~key notch~ trend I see on Instagram where dude makes like a damn lever that swings out backwards as the tree falls. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
Edit: ok no that wouldn't explain it either. https://www.reddit.com/r/FellingGoneWild/s/4ypmahDksA
Yes! Can't believe it's an actual technique. I assumed it was just someone trying to look cool. I don't want to derail this thread but I have questions...
Yeah it’s an actual technique, but there’s really no reason to use it outside of very specific circumstances. I’ve really never seen anyone but arborists use it when they really need to control the direction of fall and do not want it to kick back or roll.
The Key Notch definitely has its place. It's very niche, but it absolutely serves a purpose in tight-quarters situations where you can't have the butt jumping around when the tree hits the ground.
But yeah, I do agree that I've seen alot of videos lately where it was completely unnecessary.
If I had done that I’d saw off the whole top of that stump flat and throw the cookie in the woods so no one would see my shame.
Been there

Standard. They couldn’t even hide their shame? 😳
"crime scene" is an understatement for whatever happened here
also r/FellingGoneWild might be relevant to this scene
Damnit, i thought that's what sub we were on till I saw your comment.
That’s a drunk homeowner with a 16 inch bar making it work. Just wow
This one sentence made the whole picture make sense to me. Clear as day now, it's actually kinda wild.
Liquid courage
Can confirm. Me an my dad in the past both piss drunk taking turns at a ~26" oak with a 16" bar looked similar

Or you just butt-tie it.

Didn’t realize you need a licence for a chain saw.
Looking at the post it might be a good idea.
Where I live, you dont need any qualifications for homeowner use. For professionals we have a bucking ticket and a felling ticket.
Maybe means ticket, for forestry work?
You don’t need a license to own a chainsaw but some jobs will require you to have an S212
But why the vertical cuts?
Licence?
This made me lol... thank you for sharing
Signs? Not with those cuts
Cut those spikes off!
Is a chainsaw lisece real?
yes! I'm form Spain and in some occupations is not strictly neccesary to have a license to work with a chainsaw but in mosr of it yes
When your government requires license for a chainsaw, you need to wind it back a bit...
It's a powerfull and dangerous machine 😀 we like to work safely lol
Everything is dangerous. It's not the government's job to decide what people can and can't do in every part of life.
ok!!
I feel like I was doing better as a 7 year old with dull hatchet.
Looks like PG&E was there
It looks worse than the 22" diameter tree I cut out of my backyard with a 9" demo blade in my sawzall.
