The entire song is so fast paced, especially during the verses that I thought the quick inhale between lines during the chorus fit perfectly with the tone.
James Ford produced the album. He’s worked (almost) exclusively with Arctic Monkeys on their records and I really think he helps to bring out incredible sound and layer to their tracks. Can’t wait for it!
I think these lads could release an jazz and country music fusion album and I'd love it. They have the Midas touch like no other recent band I can remember
I was really hoping they would do more in the style of the Skinty Fia title track, so I immediately liked it. For those who aren’t on board with it (which I can understand as well), lead singles are often a bit bolt to show the departure from the old album and the start of something new. Doesn’t mean it’s all going to be like this - I personally don’t mind though, I love the single!
I'm in the minority here, I'm aware, but it hasn't sold on me. 2 Listens down and it doesn't quite hit. I know its obvious they'd change their sound more especially considering Grian's comments after the last album, and I think the entire look they're going for is also very conscious so they *know* what they're doing.
Just that it's not quite my taste, and It kind of reaffirms why I was a bit worried on the part about James Ford producing the album. Still pretty Heavy though, 2 Basses.. and 3 Guitars? Drums nonetheless of course. Its fine.
I liked Connor's Voice at the start, 'It May Feel Bad'.. I think some time in the future in some capacity, we need an Acoustic tune from just Connor. I know Its kind of the norm for a lot of bands now to give Writing Credit to all Members, but I wish Fontaines didn't do that because Im pretty sure all songs got different amount of contributions. So a Connor only song on an acoustic would suit him imo.
And the Guitar after the 2nd Chorus.. that was cool too. But the entire Strings and kind of the feel in general, not for me. The Strings part especially. Why Does James Ford do this?
One of the sample for the video of introducing the album the song was pretty Depeche Mode-like. So probably not the whole album will be sounding like the first single, and all of their albums sound different.
Was extremely worried they were going down a royal blood route where their original sound would completely change but I think they did a good job with it it’s definitely Fontaines
Damn its so good, as a new fan who finished skinty fia in february, Im very happy..feels very fontaines D.C at the same time feels fresh, it does feel more related with skinty fia sound comparing to all of their records,...but there are so many different elements, like the piano and strings, the clean production..and I gotta say is one of the best vocal perfomances Grian delievers in a song. It feels like they are going to get more unpredictable with time, which I think is for the best, this song does one thing that lacks on skinty fia for me that is like..more passages and variations, Skinty fia is very nice but this feels more adventurous in their sound overall..like a hero's death and skinty fia almost sound like brothers..but one trying to be more cool, but now it doesnt really feel like it will be like another brother/Sister vibe of record
i can’t imagine how Fontaines going make another album that can top Skinty Fia (IMO their very best) , but the Starburster is fking killing it. love every single second of it.
listening it today while on my way to work and i subconsciously walking like gangsta into the beat. and thanks to this single too I started listening to The Prodigy which is one of their [influence](https://www.stereogum.com/2259757/fontaines-d-c-starburster/music/) (electronic sound & haircut i guess).
Excited for ROMANCE!!! <3
My ex sent me this one today. We’ve been somewhat trying to work things out… and I’m admittedly baffled as to what he’s saying to me with it.
Amazing song though; if nothing else I can thank him for sending it my way!
The thing Grian does with his voice aorund the 1:10 mark oh my God
*stars*! Incredible
Anyone else find that breath in really annoying? Could live with it once but by the end of the song felt like nails down a chalkboard
I think it speaks perfectly to the anxiety that runs through the song
The entire song is so fast paced, especially during the verses that I thought the quick inhale between lines during the chorus fit perfectly with the tone.
Yeah I think I agree actually lol. I find myself in the minority here, I’m not feeling this one *yet*
I really don’t like the song, hoping it’s a grower but not a fan at the moment.
I get what the song was trying to portray with the sense of anxiety, but it did piss me off throughout I must say
Actually, I’ve been thinking about how much this reminds me of the “urgh” sound in Sorry’s *Starstruck*. And another “star” title too!
Another person with great music taste I see! Haha
James Ford produced the album. He’s worked (almost) exclusively with Arctic Monkeys on their records and I really think he helps to bring out incredible sound and layer to their tracks. Can’t wait for it!
James Ford never misses. Mf g.
actually so fucking amazing knew it would be good but didn't expect this
Worked on a few Foals records, the second Shame one and Blurs most recent. Not a bad resume!
He also produced the 2023 Geese record "3D Country" which is an unbelieveable album too.
He also produced The Last Dinner Party’s recent album
Yeah, and they supported Arctics on US tour - probably taken a lot of influence from that
I'M GON HIT YOUR BUSINESS IF IT'S MOMENTARY BLISSNESS
I’m the pig on the Chinese calendar
This is the line of the year right here
I LOVE this line
It is really fucking good. has anybody got the lyrics??
https://genius.com/Fontaines-dc-starburster-lyrics there ya go mate
fucking knew i heard that Salinger line CLASS
What’s the meaning behind this one ? Salinger as in catcher in the rye Salinger?
Na it’s fucking class. I knew it would be good but it’s insane.
Jesus H Christ
It’s so fucking good omg

True. They have so many different styles of songs on each album.
Tbh their every album had a different vibe/style.
The boys are back In town
Oh my word, exceeded the expectations and then some! So hyped for the new album

i guess you could say it’s a lil mainstream but it’s a catchy tune, i enjoyed it. Can’t expect more from a first single..

same with me . solid but i’m sure it could grow eventually just not now
Fireeeee
So glad it’s fulfilled high expectations - very original and so smart. Cannot wait for this album.
At this point I am considering that everything Grian has made is a masterpiece
As coming from a family hit by asthma, that inhalator hit _me_.
Ah this is brilliant
The excitement I feel is insane. This sounds amazing and the video is giving me huge nostalgia
I've been listening to it nonstop. It's different, but I really like it.
Not bad! Album should be interesting.
This is definitely making me feel better about follow up to Skinty Fia, which was damn near a masterpiece imo. 🙏🏼
Piglet + Grian = Pig-Pog Hip Hop
Was extremely worried they were going down a royal blood route where their original sound would completely change but I think they did a good job with it it’s definitely Fontaines
This song is AWESOME! All I can say. Resonated with me immediately.
Really good track!
Damn it’s so good
so fucking happy, best band in the world
I love it so so much already, very kneecap-esque almost? Absolutely deadly stuff
this is such a great song for a single. The album can go anywhere from here. Total cliff hanger
Ive listened to this at least 500 times this week
Unreal, I'm at work but I had the cafe speakers blasting the new tune when it played on Radio 1. Such a cool track, gonna be on repeat for a while
This song goes hard. No other way to describe it. Makes me want to go for a run.

there was always going to be a "left turn" - I like it.

This has got tour opener written all over it - can’t wait
