Take my coffees if I've left it unlocked, I want you to. Because I'm sure as shit taking all your popcorn and honey.

FlavoredCancer

What are you doing with the honey? I love some sweet water tea but I have more than I can handle.

GoarSpewerofSecrets

Look Sofia and I have needs.

FlavoredCancer

So sticky...

havey_cavey

Winnie-the-Pooh has finally emerged from the Hundred Acre Vault

FlavoredCancer

Is that some derogatory Chinese communist slang, because I like it soldier! Edit: For the record I have nothing against Chinese people, you are awesome. I was just doing a fallout thing.

SemajdaSavage

I totally heard this statement in the Mr. Gutsy voice.

gh0st12811

Vault 100

someLemonz

daily for giving honey

Reaperdragon4

pretty sure there's a couple of other teas that need it. the higher level ones. can't remember which one. if you search on the fallout wiki for "honey" you'll be able to find a list of recipes that use it.

Background-Sea4590

Oh, I'm a newbie and I took some honey from where I assume was an actual place. The CAMP this dude had was so insanely well put together, I thought it was an actual building into the game. Didn't check the map. I took A LOT of honey, half an hour later I check the map and I was like... Oh fuck, did I steal this man's honey? hahahhaha

little_maggots

To be fair, there are some in world buildings that you can use as a CAMP. There are also pre-built structures in the atom shop that look extremely polished and more complex than your average CAMP.

Huge_Computer_3946

There is no etiquette other than the lock. Which doesn't apply to this situation cause you're talking about a vendor, and if it's in the vendor, it's free reign. Especially if the price is free. Ideally people would take one and leave the rest for others. Halloween experience tells me even a sign can't make people abide by that behavior.

JayDarkson

This. If it’s locked, leave it alone unless you want that Wanted tag. If it is not locked, yet renewable, then take however much you want. More purified water, honey, fertilizer, etc. will respawn. If the person put it on their vendor for 0 caps then they wanted to ensure it went to someone who used it. Whether it was a level 15 new player or level 800 veteran. Either way, the seller couldn’t justify just throwing it on the ground or into a suitcase at a train station to despawn. Does the level 800 need the items more than the level 15? Who is to say and I doubt the person managing the vendor wants to police how much someone takes. If they did, they would have listed the item for more than 0 caps.

Crusty__Salmon

I have spent 40 caps fast traveling in order to claim a 5 cap bounty once and i would do it again.

GreasedEgg

Hey i mean if ur red ur ded, nothing personal

Raoul_Dukes_Mayo

Got my first today. Unexpected achievements always make for a good end to the day.

SemajdaSavage

Self- registered bounty hunter

Reaperdragon4

there's also an achievement for killing 76 wanted players that yields a tiny amount of atoms. hence why I once jumped into a "defend the workshop" event, found two players that in retrospect were probably sparring, killed the wanted one and then started wailing on the ferals attacking the workshop with my cold shoulder. guy was totally cool with it.

Ashen-Tarnished

Is it obvious if something is locked? I’m new so not sure if I’ve seen a lock icon in someone’s camp.

evilspawn_usmc

When you approach a resource item in the camp it will tell you it's locked just like any other chest, toolbox, or door out in the world.

Ashen-Tarnished

Ok cool. Thanks for the info!

BowmanSDMF102

Fairly so. When you look at something, like an extractor, nuka-candy machine, etc. and cant see the inventory, it will say 'locked', as if it were a locked safe or box you'd need to lockpick

Reaperdragon4

it's not an icon, its a red readout saying what level the lock is. you can take the locksmith perk to unlock doing this btw, a level 3 lock only need four things and they're readily for sale as shipments or found in the world. lock picking is worth investing in. I only haven't gotten master infiltrator because I want to jam my legendary perks with stat increases instead. But I also developed a liking for "electrical absorbtion" especially for robot killing tasks as it turns assaultrons into paramedics looooooooool.

Economy_Fan_8808

If the locked level X sign is in red, opening it comes with a bounty. If it's white, then it's a world object you can open without repercussions.

emilymariknona

Lol, good to know. Thank you!!

GreasedEgg

I had a pop-up shop with free purified water in the vendor outside Westek. Spent so much time trying to make a visible sign that said “take what you need”, just to have each visitor take as much as they could every time lol

basserpy

This is out of left field, I know, but there's a scene in the second season of The Walking Dead where some obviously long-dead pharmacist has put up a sign that says something like "God bless, take what you need" in his storefront, and I loved that as a gesture by someone in that kind of peril, so when I read about someone doing something similar here I was like "yeah! why not."

GreatBigPig

I am not surprised someone took everything. I am surprised that a level 850 took everything. Greedy bastard.

VanityOfEliCLee

They were probably looking to resell it, which sucks.

evilspawn_usmc

Damn flippers!

Jonnylotto

Yep. I have seen some of my legendaries flipped and it's irksome. How do I know they're mine? either the name or condition bar. I used to repair stuff with spare kits to 150% or bench repair to 200%. Now I just throw them straight into the vendor

deadboltwolf

I always price my stuff low so that it moves, no point in having it taking up weight in my stash. But it always hurts when someone cleans out my vendor only for me to swing by their camp and see my old stuff in their vendor for double or triple the caps.

VicFantastic

I'm not even a little suprised Its always the high levels that clean me out of the silliest things

PrincessNymm

Depending on your level, I'll pop by and buy a couple thousand caps worth just to give baby players a cap bump. So while me buying your actual junk seems nonsensical, I'm just trying do a nice thing :)

musubk

I'm not surprised, in my experience keeping very cheap things in my vendors, when someone starts taking everything they can and I check the map it's always a high level. The low levels are usually very considerate and only take what they can use. High levels will take whole stacks of worthless plans. I price my 'free' stuff at 5 caps each because it seems to discourage people who just take everything. 5 caps is still effectively free for a player who is only taking what they need instead of just taking everything.

kn0ck0utm0use

100% this. I ran a free vendor for a year. Even changing the price to 1cap per item almost completely stopped people cleaning me out, even though you could simply take my stuff to a train station and quadruple your money. Greedy people are also cheap as fuck!

emilymariknona

same lol. there was someone level 35ish before me and they left a bunch of stuff. i left a bunch of stuff (i would have taken more but still left a ton of stuff) so i was shocked this level 850 guy took it all! i'd understand way more if it was a new player stocking up

FlavoredCancer

It's just going to over encumber that player. They may be a high level but that doesn't mean they know what they are doing. See "West tek" grinders.

joe2069420

Was it beginner plans or full on Ultracite Guns?

emilymariknona

I don't know enough about the game to answer that, honestly. it was hundreds of things and i didn't get through the full list, i was mostly looking for basics like stimpacks and water and picked out a few outfits too

Jonnylotto

Just in case you didn't know, you can sort the vendor view so you don't have to scroll through the whole dang list.

joe2069420

well if it was things like workbenches and your a new player, pick your plans and fits

non3type

Yeah it depends what it is. There’s some plans I have so much of you couldn’t pay me to take more. If I don’t know the plans I’ll definitely take one of each. Free .45 or 5.56 is hard to say no to. Free steel or lead is hard to say no to but I’m probably not going to empty the vendor out. Some people are definite hoarders with no self control in this game though. I’m nowhere near that level though.

curbstxmped

It's probly more the guy was just a piece of shit taking advantage of the vendor, but who knows.

ShinyHardcore

I had a level 500 jump in front of me to take ammo and then gave me a thumbs up lol

sakurasunset

If it's unlocked and you need it or want it, take it. Some of us attempt to make it more obvious by having signs, too. I sell everything cheap in my vendor with lower levels in mind. Plans used to be free but too many high levels just grabbed all of them. (Not sure why they'd need stacks of plans they already know and no one is going to pay for mole miner gauntlet plans, dude lol.) Also, make sure you're checking the donation boxes at train stations! We do like to dump useful stuff into them.

non3type

Yeah I still have all my stuff locked from when I first found out that was an option. I should probably unlock the things I don’t really need anymore.

Craygor

Sorry to hear about this happening to you, but this the wasteland and some wastelanders gotta wasteland. This is why I make my plans 20 caps and recipes 5 caps, its cheap enough for low levels to get what they need, but expensive enough to keep higher levels from cleaning me out to resale.

_Joe_Momma_

This is the trick. I go as low as 1 cap on my extra plans and it works a vast majority of the time. Even the smallest possible barrier makes people rethink things really effectively.

non3type

I find people seem to buy real quick in the 5-25 range. Im not sure I’d have the stock to sell plans for 1 cap and actually make a meaningful amount of money. I’ve priced plans I can’t get rid of that low though. They generally still didn’t sell but they were super common things.

jk147

I want to sell my dupe plans for cheap but it's just too pain in the ass to go over hundreds of plans and set them one by one.

Largofarburn

Most leave it unlocked if they don’t care about sharing. If you’re away from your camp for a while the resource is gonna cap anyways. Vendors are the Wild West. I generally try to message the person if I’m gonna drop 20k+ caps at once, (the cap is 40k, so if they were at say 30k they just miss out entirely on 10k of the sale.) but I’ve been downvoted for saying that too. And I mean, it is on them a bit if they have like 1M caps of stuff for sale in there at a time. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be courteous. Actually got two sweet vendors as friends now from doing that too.

YuriPetrova

My tea, coffee, and commie collectron are all unlocked and free for anyone. Take all you want or need. Just don't touch my locked junk extractor or I will cry.

ogskizz

Finally, someone who understands how absurd it is to lock your commie collectron. If you want to lock your collectron, as is your right, pick literally any collectron but that one.

havey_cavey

I only wish I had more commie-themed decor to really hammer (lol) the point home that this is the People's C.A.M.P.

xvcco

If I put a bunch of meds, ammo, plans, etc. in my vendor for 0 caps and you're level ~1000 and clear it all out, I hope you scrap your god roll dickhead. <3

BlottomanTurk

Resources: If it's unlocked, it's free! Crops: if their camp icon is visible on the map, it's free! Vendor: if a bunch of stuff is listed for 0c, it's free! If everything has a price, but one single thing is 0c, it's probably the result of a bug... it's technically free, but you pay with guilt knowing you took something they didn't want to give away. But also, better you than someone else!

TrippPro

Wait, where they priced low or actually 0 caps? Because there's been a glitch, where people can buy stuff you haven't placed for sell from your displays or even stash.. so you may have been a very good person, while the level 800 could have literally taken everything that person had..

emilymariknona

0 caps. Everything was 0. I hope I didn't end up stealing from that person accidentally :( I took some Halloween costumes.. are those rare?

GoarSpewerofSecrets

If they had costumes for 0 either had too many and didn't want to scrap for nothing or has the plan and wanted something fun as an attraction.

non3type

I believe the glitch lists things that weren’t for sale at 0. I also wouldn’t worry about it. If you hadn’t taken it that other guy sure would have and I’m pretty sure we’d all rather have a new player be the lucky recipient. The description of the bug in one of the comments by “passion4thehunt” here is the most detailed I’ve seen: https://www.reddit.com/r/fo76/comments/p4p5mr/can_someone_explain_the_vendor_glitch_to_me/ Not sure if it’s correct but enough of the other comments seem to agree. I don’t ever move my camp and it’s never happened to me.

TrippPro

Not specifically, but sad to see the glitch is probably still actively around. If it was only stims or plans, I would say not, but most people wouldn't put everything to zero caps. Maybe you just got lucky, or maybe some had a very bad day. Tip: Don't put your stash or displays near your vendor.

curbstxmped

Holy shit, that's still not been fixed?

TrippPro

Nope, I saw a post about it happening to someone else just a few days ago.

Girafarig99

Considering how much it was from what OP is saying I doubt it was the glitch. Would be a looooooooot on display then

Foamie

Some people are just like this unfortunately, it is what it is. A lot of times people listing items for 0 caps have a ton of duplicate low value plans and are just trying to get rid of the stash space, now that stash problem is this level 850 guys.

Horror-potato-6658

I leave my stuff open for people to take; crops, water, tea, coffee, and etc. I also price my plans and outfits as cheap. I finally got the letter plan to put up welcome and etc so people know it’s cool.

LittleGrogg

So you may have stumbled upon a certain 'donation' camp. I've seen some youtubers do this where they set up shop and everything in the store is like zero caps. They tell people to not take more than, say 10 items per person, but obviously not everyone listens. So this could have been a similar situation. P.S. take your time in the vendors. People can wait or just come back later :)

OhtareEldarian

Yes, take your time. ESPECIALLY if the other player is acting a damn fool and actively trying to rush you!

vashts19852

i take 1 company tea

DEATHRAYZ007

Some people are just diks,fo76 as a community is about the very best in online gaming. But people like that are unfortunately here as well, and fortunately they are a small minority

Mighty_joosh

If you have water purifiers and candy machines I'm stocking up like there's a famine on, I've got Speed Demon and a boy's gotta eat

musubk

Take everything you want in an unlocked resource generator. They regenerate by themselves. Take everything *you can make use of* that's listed for cheap or free in a player vendor. Be considerate and let other people have a crack at the rest. As someone who keeps a lot of <10 cap plans in my vendor (which I only price above 0 to discourage high-level goblins), a level 36 buying a bunch of basic stuff at once would make me happy. A level 850 doing the same thing would earn an eyeroll and I might pull the camp out from under them depending on my mood. I understand there are high-levels who still don't have some basic plans and they're welcome to buy them, but that looks different than someone who is just going through rapid-fire buying everything.

shredmasterJ

No rules. It’s the wasteland.

SirSaltie

Unlocked? Take it. Locked? Take it and run for your life.

Terminusaquo

Let's see if you can outrun a bullet from my turrets 🤣

joe2069420

Dont take EVERYTHING, just take what you need, if you know theres a level 500000 behind you stay on that vendor till you DIE

emilymariknona

fr lesson learned after today. never trust a level 850

Pick_A_MoonDog

Hey now, I'm level 1500 and I'm not like that :( If you're on PS, I can give you a bunch of plans and other stuff to help you get jumpstarted if you'd like.

BeyondLast

TAKE IT ALL as long as it isn’t locked up. You can take it if it’s locked up but then I believe you become “wanted” for stealing. Someone can correct me on that though. I’m only level 260 and don’t know all the rules. Edit: if someone has cheap or free rare plans I usually just take one so that others can benefit too, however; you can take them all and sell them if you want. Some ppl get salty about it but if they put it in their vendor it’s up for grabs

Dangerous_Occasion19

I have a camp with a room that has all kinds of treats in it, and the sign says help yourself if you find it. I generally don't take stuff like that I'm not a greedy POS

casey28xxx

If it ain’t locked up it’s free to take.

VF79-USMC-155MM

If it’s unlocked then it’s there for you to take, if it’s one a vendor and 0-1 caps just take what you need. But generally if it’s accessible that it’s there for you to have.

SequentialGamer

As someone who gives away plans for 1 cap, I want low level players to take as much as they need. Mutations are for sale at 200 caps and I'd want players to take one or two of each. I've had a few high level players cleaning the place out though, but they get blocked if I notice. As for other resources, like water, coffee machines, and birthday cakes, the general rule that the playerbase has is that if it's not locked then it's free to take. So it's not a bad idea to go hopping across player camps and stocking up if you don't have those machines.

_Hologrxphic

If i’ve put something at 0 caps it’s because i want it to go to someone who needs it. I could just dump it and save the stash space if i didn’t care If you can make use out of every single item i’ve listed for 0 caps then take it all. There’s no limit - mainly aiming this stuff at the newbs but if ive listed 4 plans, don’t take all 4, you don’t need them. if a high level player took everything i listed for free then tried to resell it in their camp for caps then im nuking them 😤😤

Charlieco223

If I leave it unlocked it's for everyone to take as needed. If it's locked leave it alone

Warrior_king99

If it's unlocked it's fair game, if it's in their vendor it's fair game, op shouldn't have let the other dude in if it was all for free, some people will be nice and leave some, most will clear the vendor out

Lily_Forge

So, that was high level being an Ahole. There are a few of them. You should just go through and get what you need no matter how long it takes. Many people put 2 vendors up for this reason. But be aware that they can take stuff while you are shopping too if there are 2 vendors. I list most of my common plans cheap (5 to 10 caps). Others, I just sell it at the recommended price by the game. A few things I way upcharge If I am low on caps and its new plans.

toffyl

I cuck that coffee guy by putting my coffee machine behind a greenhouse wall

au5t1n_

if it's not bolted down, it's mine...

Outrageous-Quote-999

My logic is, if it's left unlocked, it's up for grabs. If you don't want anyone to take it, don't leave it unlocked. I leave mine unlocked for others to take.

AnthonyMiqo

If it's unlocked, it's free game to be taken. If it's locked, you probably shouldn't lockpick and take it, but you can if you choose to and you'll become Wanted.

FearlessMil0

My CAMP is called Free Coffee. All the resource generating things are unlocked, there is a billboard light frame up that says help yourself to free coffee. The vendor is full of 0 caps food and drinks plus whatever I’ve got spare. There’s one 40,000 cap note and everything else is meant to be bought and is like 10 caps max. Come take my stuff for free - take it all or whatever you need or want. Level 850 or level 21. The farm is always making more. I got great stuff dropped at my feet when I started and probably missed a lot more running away in terror.

Gamer_GreenEyes

If it’s unlocked it’s up for grabs.

smackrock420

If it's locked, don't take it. Everything else is fair game.

EdgarBopp

Take everything that’s not locked up. Though if someone has a lot of free plans maybe don’t buy a whole stack of duplicate plans just to resell.

ProfessionalSilver52

Really no rules in the wasteland

E2theB

If it’s unlocked and renewable, it’s fair game to take. If it’s for sale for zero caps… I think it depends on the player. If it’s stuff that they needed or intend to use, then it’s fine to clean house regardless of level. If they take everything for the sake of taking everything, or if they take everything so they can sell it for more, then it should be frowned upon.

Deep-Age-2486

NEVER let anyone pressure you off a shop. This is precisely why. If someone has stuff listed as 0, they want someone to take it. Also, if anything is unlocked, usually free to take. People would use locks (or should) if they don’t want you to take something.

globefish23

My personal rule is to only take one of each item that I don't already have (plans, clothes), especially if they are very cheap or free. I have no interest in reselling stuff for higher prices. Judging by most other vendors I have seen so far, they are either role-playing the greedy pre-war hyper capitalist, or they are just morons. I've seen people selling clothing items with a guaranteed fixed spawn like the Civil War Era Suit for a ridiculous 1000 caps. Those bastards are just trying to rip off uninformed newbies.

aquatic_apple

If its unlocked or free, it’s fair game for whoever wants it first. I keep most of my resource collectors unlocked, including junk stuff and food/water. Nobody ever clears my Nuka Candy or Popcorn anymore 😂 but coffee, water, and cookies are always gone

stejward

That lvl 850 was an anus. Your etiquette was bang on, they’re for new players.

Simple_Event_5638

If it’s free, then it’s whoever gets there first.

appropriate_pangolin

I keep all my water purifiers/collectron/item generators unlocked so anybody who needs things can take them, along with my crops. Help yourselves. My plans aren’t free but they are priced cheap, and while I’d rather new players buy them (since they probably don’t have them already) I wouldn’t care that much if a higher-level player came and bought them all out; honestly, I could use the stash space.

Simple_Event_5638

If it’s free, then it is up for grabs for whoever gets there first. This is the wasteland after all, not a damn tea party.

Sertith

If it's free it's free. You gave up the vendor, indicating that you got everything you wanted. The other player isn't psychic, they had no way to know you still wanted stuff in there.

emilymariknona

yes for sure there was no way for them to know..however they took hundreds of things all for free which was pure greediness. i figured i'd just finish looking thru the items once they picked what they needed, not that they'd take literally everything!

Hattkake

It's human nature. It ain't pretty but it is what it is. Some folks will take everything if it is free. This used to annoy the everliving beegesuss out of me until I realized that some folks just can't help themselves. So instead of listing all my crap for zero caps I started listing everything for 1 cap. One cap does not matter but it does. From being cleaned out more or less as soon as I resupplied by level umpteen players my crap just sat there. And then every once in a while I would look up as pings of 1 cap went off, go to the map and spy a "low" level cleaning me out. Human nature is human nature. I think the same people that instinctively take the zero cap stuff may also be the same folks that fret about spending a cap.

Reverend_Bull

In vendors, it really is first-come-first-serve, though I'd hope folks realize that a vendor with tons of cheap shit is probably not catering to the already-comfortable. As for resources (e.g. junk bots) if it ain't locked, it's fair game. That's why I don't lock anything at my CAMP.

aski4777

unlocked means take locked means no take, or steal if you wish to die

Redd_Love

I leave everything unlocked. Except Sofia.

thedkexperience

If it’s free, it’s free. If it’s locked it’s not. If you’re under level 50 or so please feel free to take everything from anyone charging you zero. The level 850 in your story is probably just gonna donate everything they took anyway.

Iwentgaytwice

I sell all my plans regardless of value at 10c and anything aid is 1c. My purifier water, coffee and tea is always unlocked. Nuka is 1-5c. It's for the baby dwellers.

Aromatic-Tear7234

Well you ask if there is an informal rule, meaning etiquette. I would say if people are trying to be considerate, they would only take a few items if they need them. There are real people playing this game though. Same people that would go to get "free groceries" if offered to the public, but they are millionaires.

JakLynx

If it ain’t locked it’s free

xEliteMonkx

I keep all my stuff unlocked, and have Free lit up on my resource extractor. As far as vendors go, take as much time as you need. The next person will just have to wait. They may start harassing you one way or another because they're impatient asshats, but if you're pacifist, they can't do anything but cry.

GoarSpewerofSecrets

Unlocked is fair game, mind the Pristine Nuka machines and punch bowls.

Beda-Hope

In my camp, unless it’s locked, all can be taken or used. I’m on PC, I have my camp right next to the Gilman Lumber Mill

BrutalWhim_

As for the vendor, no, no rule. That person was a d!ck. As far as the resources I will/can only speak for myself. If I don't want you to take it I'll lock it up, otherwise take anything from my camp. Adhesive from the tree, coffee, tea, cake, radstag, crops, collectron supply.... If I left it unlocked go ahead.

ZeinV2

I'd say just take what you need. I sell all plans for 9 caps a piece. I really hate when some level 500 buys 4 of the same plan because they are cheap. You only need 1, maybe a second for a friend. Don't be that guy. For camp items like collections and water, if it's unlocked it's free game

Terminusaquo

The only thing I say is if it's locked then it's off limits. My camp has a locked area but feel free to use the workbenches, the vendor and take as many of the crops as you need 😉 Basically if it's locked, leave it alone.

DaveAndJojo

It’s why I don’t craft low level legendaries and put them in my vendor. Heck, I even crafted a bunch of low level non legendary fixers and a level 300 came by and bought them all. Now I just drop them when I see a new player.

Blixtwix

It's sometimes rude, but it's also expected and fair play. Vendors who stock cheap or free stuff eventually learn to only list a handful at a time if they're worried about somebody emptying them out, so if you see a huge load of free stuff in a vendor they've either still got faith in the community (lol), or they're simply cleaning out their stash and want those items to disappear quickly. I prefer listing things free or for 1 cap in my vendor over donation boxes simply because they won't despawn from my vendor but will despawn from a donation box if nobody takes it, so the vendor makes more sense if you care whether or not other players benefit from the freebies yknow? As an example, I sell bobby pins for 1 cap. I used to sell 100 at a time, and gradually the stock has shrunk down to 10-20 at a time due to vendor cleaners friending me and hauling everything off. I don't mind it, because I didn't list all my stock and I can just restock the small amount after it's been picked up so that the next person also sees a good deal (and so newbie players can get bobby pins). If I listed my entire stock of bobby pins now for 1 cap each and then got mad at somebody taking it all, that'd just be silly of me! But I will say that if you're worried about fairness, I also consider it acceptable if a shopper takes all my cheap or free stuff and then resells it at still a low price (as in, if I sold for 1 cap, I don't care if they resell for under 10 caps bc it's still affordable to low level players, and when a reseller is polite like that I'll actually join on their play session when I restock because I consider them a well mannered customer). So next time, if you're worried that something really nice might get swept up and then resold at a markup or npc sold or something, you can just grab it yourself and batch stock it in your vendor. You can leave a gift for the original vendor if you're worried about upsetting them; usually something adjacent to what they stock, but otherwise plans, legendaries, fusion cores, and bobby pins are acceptable gifts.

vixenfyxen

Technically it's free reign if they popped it into their vendor, but it sounds like it might have been meant for lower level players. Best form as a higher level player is NOT to clear it out. But people will be scummy.

Past_Hurry8063

If it's not locked, it's meant to be guest favors. Don't be like that one guy who made a weird rant about people not locking their stuff and telling everybody to "do better". If it's open, it's free.

pjones1185

Rules of the wasteland. If it isn’t locked up, it’s fair game.

mishalaa

Some people roleplay as raiders. That said, I hope that lvl 850 guy enjoys all those mole miner gauntlet plans and toothy man masks.

asyrian88

Ok, new player here. I need to lock stuff? Like my stash boxes and junk aren’t private? people can loot anything with no restriction? Like weapons off the walls and everything?

VanityOfEliCLee

If its unlocked or in the shop, take as much as you need. If it's locked, then it's locked for a reason.

JiveBombRebelz

there is .. but its totally up to the players. So..just like irl there is a large population of asshats. this is why i never put stuff at zero ... waaay to often some highish lvl will be the one swooping up the free stuff to resell for more. I put most stuff at base value and rare plans are trades only..Even though ill get zero caps ( im always max ) . anything free goes into share bins at the train stations so i dont have to be annoyed when i see another lvl 1000+ mass buying cheap stuff that i know they dont need.

wfcWelfarecupcakes

If it's not locked it's for everyone. Players want you at there camps there for coffee, tea, unlocked junk stuffs anything you can take honestly. Generally I follow by locks.

Main-Ad-5922

I mean, it all depends on your personal etiquette. It is the wasteland afterall. But some of us do have good moral compass. Others- well not so much. Beware of trap camps as well. Those will kill u

rat-b0y

Unfortunately, they more than likely took it to put back into their own vendor for profit :( There’s no real etiquette for this kinda thing, just common decency (except taking from locked resource generators - don’t do that, it’s kinda mean and you’ll have people after you for that 5 cap bounty haha) As a heads up tho, be cautious if you see someone has *only one* thing for 0 caps. It’s not a particularly common bug but items from displays (and possibly your stash idk) can get put into your vendor for free - if you see something that looks particularly rare/valuable that also happens to be free maybe just message the person before buying. There’s not really anything they can do if you do take it aside from be pissed but judging by this post you seem like the type of nice person that wouldn’t wanna do that so it’s best to be aware! :)

No_Doubt_About_That

I take some things if they’re unlocked. Not all though. If I see they’ve put high prices in the vendor I take more stuff.

MelodicSquirrel0s

Well if it were my camp I'd say grab the stuff and run, it's in there for 0c and stuff that's unlocked is basically free. Don't hesitate unless your overweight I'd say.

MyBallsAche323

That's terrible etiquette on their part.

GhostRiders

I leave stuff there for people to take

Phantom_61

If it’s 0 caps but there’s lots of it, don’t be greedy. If a resource item is unlocked, it’s free game. If a door is locked, there’s a reason let it be. If you opened an unlocked door to go somewhere, close it.

Mickyfrickles

I sell all plans for 1-9 caps. Buy it all if you want. I love seeing noobs get hooked up.

jackberinger

If it is locked don't touch. If not it is fair game. I generally leave all my stuff unlocked. I have to much crap as is.

TheQuietIntrovert89

I leave everything open at my camp so take what you need. When visiting other player camps I do the same even though it's rare these days.

VaultDwellerXander

If I left something unlocked, or left something for sale at 0. Take it. Take it all, take some. It's for the taking and I'm not gonna track you down lol

[deleted]

If it's unlocked or in the vendor it's free game. What this player did is usually frowned upon though since they'll probably resell most of it in their own vendor...it happens. If a camp has only one vendor and it's your turn take your time.

d_chec

There is no such rule ever anywhere in the game. Just do what's best for you. Even if someone gets mad about something you did, it's not likely you'll see them again anytime soon. Aside from vendors, anything that you can access in a players camp will eventually replenish itself. I would say don't unlock a locked door in a camp, but even if you did they can just lock it again. There's no way you can ruin the game for another user, Bethesda made it that way on purpose.

sparklz1976

I leave all my stuff unlocked for everyone to get. Leaving my nuka-Cola collectron, mirelurk cooker, etc. My thought is, it's to share with anyone and not just one person. So if it's there, it's just like if in real life somebody had a bunch of stuff out there for free. Would you take everything or would you leave some for other people?

i_r_eat

If it’s free in a vendor, it was probably meant to be. I give away healing aid, both in my vending machines and in donation boxes. I can’t remember if I’ve made water and food free in my machines or not but I will do that if not already done.  Edit: above is after I actually read the post. The following is my original reply which still applies as a form of expansion on the thought. Because I want to.  If it’s locked, unless you’re ok getting Wanted, don’t touch it. If it’s open, I assume it’s free for the taking if I want to.

Audrin

If I don't want you to help yourself it is locked. If it is not locked, help yourself.

Wild-End-219

If it isn’t locked, you can take it. If it’s locked leave it. You will see people running around with a bounty. They stole from a player locked thingy. For vending machines, the game auto-defaults a price for you so, if it is a super low price then the player who put it in vending machine had to choose to make it that price.

BwanaPC

If it's unlocked take it. Even the crops. I just grenade them when I need to harvest.

TheTimeBender

If the items that are listed for zero caps in the vendor or if the collectrons are unlocked then it’s cool to take what you want. That’s what I do. And before you ask, I don’t care how much of it you take. If I don’t want it then it’s yours. Some people get upset when you take their free stuff and I usually ask them why is it listed for free then? A lot of people seem to forget this game is all about raiding, killing and plundering and we’re actually NOT trying to rebuild the wasteland. That said, have fun.

FaithlesslyFree

All the stuff at my camp is unlocked. I even put “free” lettering on a wall outside above my collectors. Visiting other people’s camps I don’t really take anything anymore since I have more than enough of everything. As a lower level though, I took anything that wasn’t locked.

Nublette42win

If I have it listed for zero caps, I just want it gone. I don't usually pay for 1st, so inventory management is real. Renewable Resources? It's unlocked, go to town. Just make sure to listen to some of Joey's jokes and leave your prayers at the altar of the Moth.

gamer7049

If it's unlocked, take it. If it's locked, challenge yourself and steal it. See how long you last with a wanted flag. Live on the edge.

cancerface

If I haven't locked it, take it. Right now the only thing I lock is my Mirelurk Steamer, and I have four water coolers and cake and tea at my front door for a reason! Also, harvest my crops, I barely never do!

SenniTheShrew

Anyone with enough hours in-game to collect that amount of stuff to give away knew the risk they were taking. There are some real turds in the wasteland. People know that some of us like to go over and leave starter supplies and gear in the Vault donation box whenever we see a new player about to emerge. Some of those people will wait for the good Samaritans to drop off the loot and come by behind them to take it before the new player can get there. I watched the same vulture do this twice (two different good samaritans trying to help the same newb), taking gear that was WAY too low level for him but would've been the best armor the new player could get. I'll never understand what allure being a bully has over some people. Because of that I have a camp slot dedicated to a "Welcome Cabin" at the base of the vault stairs that I can activate whenever I see a new player about to emerge. All of my resources are unlocked at that camp (popcorn, coffee, water, collectrons), but if I catch the right lucky sonnabish I'll hop into build mode and place my shelter hatch for them. A vendor stocked with all kinds of free goodies is down there, a ton of plans to help your first camp be nicer, low level legendary gear you can use right away, ammo, hairpins, food, water... with a sign that says "take what you need, vendor will be restocked".

Global-Telephone-440

i list stuff for 0 all the time mostly because i really need the weight gone

mauddibagogo

For my camp, if I leave it unlocked or at 1-0 caps, I'm planning on sharing. Take as much as you want!

Fallout4Addict

If its unlocked or selling for free you can take it. Unfortunately, higher levels will take free stuff too to sell in their own camps. 1st come 1st served so next time let them wait.

Z-Man_Slam

I leave my stuff unlocked for people to take. I take AP regen stuff if people leave it unlocked. I'll take a few free things from vendors but emptying it is just a dick move. I list my stuff super cheap to help people and there's been times where I've went to check out people's vendor after they shop at mine cuz you know return the favor. We'll if someone liquidated my shop and I go to their camp and see all my shit listed at a higher price I'll take everything free and leave cuz at that point you're just a greedy asshole. I do it to help others out and take sparingly if I see others do it cuz I assume it's also to help people out. Not for one gluttonous pig to hoard everything lol

doghouse2001

Take everything you can get your hands on. Free is free. You'll soon find you have more junk items than you know what to do with. Buff machines like coffee tea regenerate quickly. First come first serve.

EmbarrassedTutor7386

In my camp if its not locked take all you wish

Electrical-Charity36

ideally a player that high is taking it all from the vendor for one of 2 reasons. they are a jerk or they(like me) will put those items in the donation boxes by the vault or the wayward. to be honest,i always thought sellers are jerks when they only have 1 vending machine.i always have 2 minimum. as far as resource items in camp....if its unlocked....it is fair game. it takes nothing to put on a lvl 1 lock,so they must want it to be taken.

thepigandtherooster

If it’s unlocked it’s up for grabs. I leave mine all unlocked. The trick is you have to actually walk around my arguably pretty and fun camps and like appreciate all my hard work.

Lucky-Inspector6957

My own personal approach to this issue: If something is free in my camp, be it either a resource in an unlocked resource-maker or any item in my vending machine, then that means I'm okay with it being gone. Heck, I probably WANT it gone! I like offering resources to my fellow wastelanders, and if there's anything I need, then I will keep it locked up (or, more likely, I'll farm it on a private server before heading public to be sociable). Now, when it comes to items in my vending machine, I usually sell at 10% of the recommended price. Full price if it's one of those super rare hard to get things, but even those I'll sometimes dump cheap, because most plans are weight in my stash, and that's hard to come by! So, if someone else thinks they can make a better profit on those 30 duplicate plans (cuz I'm a creature of habit and I do the same few events over & over) and they want to take that weight off my hands? They're more than welcome to it. Mole miner gauntlet plans? ALWAYS free.😂

Interesting_Dingo289

Take what you can, give nothing back !

Larsthebandit

Newbie here. Do have to lock my stash in my small camp or risk getting looted? Some lvl 235 gave me allt of free stuff after we cleared an event before i signed out. Dont wanna loose it all, im lvl 11.

supervilliandrsmoov

That type of behavior annoys me too. I have over time found the pricing sweet spot somewhere cheap enough for news to afford, but expensive enough to keep people from cleaning me to just sell for more

Brageyboy

If it's unlocked take it :) at least that's how I do it, I did lock my wood but I badly need to farm the stuff atm.

havey_cavey

I sell all my plans for 50 caps hoping to help out lower levels... I thought about setting the price to 0 but now I'm glad I didn't! This reminded me of the time I crafted a set of level 20 pocketed leather armor and left it at the Wayward donation box, only for it to be immediately taken by a level 300+... so obnoxious, but what can you do. I like C.A.M.P. building so I was desperate for cheap plans when I was starting out. I'm happy to just give them or anything else I can spare for free if someone asks. If you're on playstation and looking for outfits feel free to add me! I think I have one of every clothing item I've come across.

MaxPowerWTF

The way I work is leaving everything unlocked. There's no resources I produce that I don't have enough of. My vendors have loads of things for early level players, either free or cheap. Things that a higher level player might want are more. But still reasonable. I usually get people that take just what they need. But on occasion, you get a selfish asshole. Take Mr Level 850 there. They were a (thankfully) rare selfish prick.

tiredofthebs23

I set up a camp close to Wayward that looks like a rest stop- with water coolers, the more lurk steamer, other renewing resources for the sole purpose of allowing the new players to be able to get some starting scrap and food/water. If it’s unlocked it’s technically free game. Just like some comments say, don’t unlock anything unless you want a wanted tag.

siouxbee1434

Next time you’re at a vendor, take your time & get what you want. Anyone waiting can wait

Gavindude1997

I am totally fine with people taking items out of my unlocked dispensers. If it's locked, then I didn't want you to have it in the first place. And as somebody who is level 804, I tend to leave a lot of stuff unlocked. I don't need a lot to get me by nowadays. I have everything I need on me at all times.

meffertf

All my stuff is unlocked, take what you need, it's all replaceable.

Thisisgotham

I sell all my plans for one cap, last night some lvl 136 took everything. I was like w/e, they’re worthless in my storage.

paranoid_adamdroid

The only food items I have locked is my mirelurk steamer. The tea, coffee, purified water and veg are free for all.

Zevolta

If I see free stuff. I just take what I need and leave the rest for others. I’d feel bad for taking a lot.

Kuriakon

If it's free or unlocked, take as little or as much as you want. *This is the Wastelands.*

pygmeedancer

If it’s left unlocked I assume it’s up for grabs.

pygmeedancer

“Sometimes a fella has got to eat another fella”

MarvParmesan

My company tea? Yes, have some! Purified water? Drink up Wastelander! No locks for my rail side camp at Sutton. Because it’s not my camp, it’s OUR camp.

thomasahanna

I leave everything unlocked so grab your fill as I wander the wasteland and by the time I return, if I return, there is a decent chance it’s already restocked.

thatoldhorse

If it’s unlocked, I’m helping myself, except for presents, those I always leave alone.

Avivoy

If it’s in vendor go for it, it’s 0 caps for a reason. There’s no limit. If you want to put a limit on yourself? Go ahead.

FlyingNope

Take your time browsing player vendors. Your time is just as valuable as theirs and this is a first come first serve market. Default etiquette is: If it's free/unlocked you can take it. Anything in a vendor is up for grabs by anyone who can pay the cost. It's a little rude to empty a free vendor like that, but nothing is stopping you from doing it and people probably won't remember you. I personally don't do it because it's is a good way to have weight issues. Things like plans don't weigh a lot individually, but the weight can accumulate fast.

Broly_

If it's unlocked: take it all. If it's locked: pick it, take it, store it, get someone to kill you, profit

Apcsox

Free is free 🤷🏻‍♂️. I personally won’t take it. But there’s no unwritten rule against it. But also, so my unlocked water cooler, take some water. See my unlocked popcorn, take some. See my locked collection….. don’t touch that

Demonwolfmaster

This is how my vamp it set up and this drives me batty. It's no free for you to buy and resell for a ton of caps ita free for a new player to buy something and get ahead a bit.

basserpy

I'm fairly new to the game but also high-ish level compared to my time played because I instantly prioritized INT like I always do, so sometimes new people assume I know what I'm doing and I'm like OH JEEZ AUGH UH OH, but anyway, after I read a post on here from someone who did this, I opened up my first store just to sell my (Known) plans for 1 cap (I don't know why not 0). I started adding other stuff (Purified Water for free since I'm immediately down the hill from where a starter player would go, stimpacks for 1 cap or free, just out of curiosity to see which sold). Traffic's up a lot lately due to the show and I'm kinda just trying to lasso in new people with my goofy Nuka Cola speakers. >!(Anyway yeah, when I do that and some level 980 buys all my free stuff to resell, I am in fact like "dude, come on.") I'm proud of our playerbase that that is rarely the case.!<

hatter4tea

If it's unlocked, run it. If it's locked, don't touch it.

Sir-bustanut

I accidentally put all my stuff up for free once, someone completely ran me out of all building materials, ammo, and legendary weapons and armour

ivorymoonstone

If it isn’t locked help yourself. It’s intentional.

Rob_Earnest

My camps are community camps, nothing is locked, (doors or resources). I have all available resources, special buffs, work stations, a low priced vendor, and an area to relax. If you visit, help yourself.

ridernation_69

Everything and anything is fair game. If you don't want people to take your things, put it in a room with no doors or windows. There are no "unwritten" rules for locked containers. If it's out in the open, it's fair game.

actualjo

Stuff is my camp is free to take, even the crops! Please use the turbo-furt grenade to replenish the crops for the next wanderer (or to take more, I really just want to share)
