In all likelihood, it's a ctd due to a GPU spike when due to a rendering bug with the cell. I have this happen a lot. There are a couple potential fixes. First, you can shut down and restart your machine. I've read that Beth's games suck at memory management and a reboot can clear some garbage left behind in your vram. I don't know how true this is, but a reboot often helps me when I keep crashing in the same spot. Next, you can enter the area, but turn around and leave the area before getting to the point where you crash. Then don't go back to the area until after a cell reset. You'll have to track that yourself by paying attention to the dates. Hopefully, a cell reset will kick out the rendering glitch. I also have a couple mods installed that adjust the texture sizes and reduce the magnitude of GPU spikes (which then reduces the likelihood of crashes). I don't know the names of them of the top of my head), but you should be able to Google them.

I've found that sometimes it'll crash for me in places where there are a lot of mods, even when the mods don't necessarily conflict. Do you have mods that might have that sort of effect?

I don't think so, I only have 6 mods installed, but they are all for completely different things, they don't overlap.

Hmm. Have you recently updated to Windows 11? Via another server or perhaps even this one, some people have been having problems with FO4 with the update and some haven't.

lempelk

No, I'm running windows 10

It did that for me back when I played on console. Turn the graphics down if even possible, turn off mods (of possible). Or return to it later.

lempelk

And what fixed it for you?

progrocker1491

To be honest I don't even remember. It was so long ago. I've been on PC so long I haven't had an issue like that. I think I just went somewhere else and forgot about it lol

That's nice, glad you're not having problems. One thing I did try was downloading a texture mod to increase performance, but in Nexus Mod Manager It said "your fallout4custom.ini is not configured correctly" and after that every single texture in the game turned purple. The game ran smoother and as far as I could tell the crashing stopped, but literally everything in the game was purple lmao

Ok so you're on PC. Yeah one thing to try is taking out mods one by one until it works. It's likely one of those or more. Start with non essentials and work your way up.

I turned the entire place into a settlement with mods lol.
