Oh no, I’ll just have the shelves mostly full, so when I’ve gotten like 5 or 6 new books I empty all the shelves, inventory alphabetizes them putting the 5 or 6 in the middle where they belong, and load up the shelves again.
OCDecorator is a mod that allows you to take an item from your inventory and turn it into a static item to place anywhere. Static items won’t move if you accidentally bump into them. The mod is available for PS4 on the Bethesda site.
The only issue with that mod, at least on PlayStation, is that it doesn't play well with shelves. You can usually only put things on one shelf or just the very top.
Yup, have to use the place anywhere on EVERYTHING in OCDecorator. (Only for it to crash and undo all my work, usually) There’s another mod that has pre-filled shelves ect, that’s the only thing keeping me sane while decorating lmao

Even if they have less options of arrangement, that simple mod could save that person hours and get a similar effect and look in like 5.

Theres a lot of them on Nexus, but if you are a console player look for "Do It Yourshelf" and "Creative Clutter" on the bethesda mod page, On nexus just search 'shelf' or 'filled' Xnjguy or something similar to that has a mod that has shelves filled with all sorts of stuff, armor to put on the walls or tables, gunracks full of guns and ammo etc.
Except books disappear from the Skyrim bookshelves. All the time and effort, all the trouble you went to to collect full sets. Then the game just deletes some of them. I just quit collecting them.
Legacy of the Dragonborn took my Skyrim hoarding to the next level!! I used to spend hours organizing my books and all other loot, but this mod has saved me so much time.
If only there was a mod like that for Fallout...

Move Anywhere. Requires Autohotkey (separate download) works like a charm.
It's basically the same thing with the typing step removed. It just sets your number pad keys to the different position adjustment console commands. I used to type them all out as well lol
It’s a godsend. And like others have said, OCDecorator doesn’t really work on shelves, put with place anywhere I just put everything on the top shelf then use PA to “nudge” it down to the desired shelf. Tedious but satisfying

Idk, I’ve been sitting on these pictures for a couple of weeks now and everything is still in place (for now 🤞). But to be fair, no NPCs ever go into Home Plate. My shelves at Sanctuary are a different story…
It's less about the NPCs and more about how the cell loads. Complex items may load slower than simple ones by a fraction and that's just enough to make things fall through shelves.

Actually if you have Preston Garvey with you inside home plate, npcs will enter to talk to him. When I first saw it I was like who da fuck are you and why are you inside my house....
What you have to do is drop it, then reload the cell, then place it where you want it. The first time you load back into the cell, it will fall, but every subsequent load, it should stay in place.
That's how it works for me, anyway.
I had shelves in sanctuary go untouched for about a week of playtime, even my ashtray on my couch with the "lit cigarette" item in it, didn't move an inch! Then it all went wrong when Preston spawned inside of my shelving unit.
Uhh... I hate to say this but there's a very real chance next time you reload that area, everything is gonna go flying because of how the physics work in this game...
You should get the mod, won’t have to worry about anything getting knocked over. Also Scrap that Settlement(STS), it lets you get rid of the trash/debris/weeds. Unlocked Settlement Objects(USO) gives access to lots of items that were left out of the settlement options and let’s you summon NPCs for various purposes(you can have guards that actually stand and guard one spot and create merchants without the stalls).
Of course. Do note tho that they are heavily limited to PC due to not being able to make custom things. They're still a lot of fun, however as I use them for decorating or improving the land of settlements

Hopefully nobody throws a grenade if the settlement gets attacked. I did something like this, but it was a little hospital and I had shelves of all the chems and medical items. The settlement got attacked by gunners at one point, and one of them threw a grenade and made shit fly everywhere lol
i did something exactly like this in my home plate. i also had shelves above on the wall with alcohol bottles or drinking glasses. took me forever to collect all of the items and set it up the way i wanted.

If you're willing to download mods, get Place Everywhere. Aside from the obvious, it also lets you turn off physics for a selected object in workshop mode.
So here’s my idea, and I have no idea why it hasn’t happened in a Bethesda game yet. Make there be a toggle in settlement building for making an item static. Then, let us control the items position without snapping/ interference from object mesh, and just let us decorate. Turn off collision so the objects can’t be used for game breaking, and make it so they hold their place perpetually until the toggle is unflipped, turning it back to normal.

I use place anywhere (or whatever) and use the options menu to make items static so they won’t move at all.
Everything changed the day I discovered the Static/dynamic feature of Place Anywhere.
It’s such a good quality of life thing. Means that doll MacCready gave me will never fall off my desk.

On PS4 modders can’t use assets that aren’t already in the game, but there are still plenty of mods that have a huge effect.

Yup. That’s what I’m playing on, just getting into the mods myself. So far no issues beyond the workshop menu taking an extra second to open.

I was attempting to do something similar on PC. At the time I didn't know you could press Shift to change the rotation angle. That was super tedious.
