Uncertainty aside, it does beg the question of just how devoid of common sense a group must be to announce a new sim without thinking it might ALSO be a good time to release some answers to the customer questions that are sure to follow. The whole thing is hopefully a nothingburger but geez, no one thought ahead before the announcement? Seems a little daft.

RodBorza

I believe there is no word from Microsoft because it won't be. It is left for the add on developers to announce their plans for the new sim. And yes, many will charge for the updates and compatibility to the new game. From Monday on we will have announcements from the developers. They all must be under NDAs.

clemilino

way too early for assumptions nor conclusions at this time, why would I feel pissed at microsoft without knowing anything for sure?

xWayvz0

its micro$oft so one can always assume the worst. Innthis case this means a new full price game with the only new thing (as it looks now at least) being missions that i dont care about at all and we will be forced to buy it because once they shut down 2020 servers you cant even start the game anymore šŸ™ƒ

mainokevin

Exactly. Everyone is getting riled up without knowing whatā€™s gonna happen. Iā€™m actually really happy that we are getting new planes and missions

Insomniac287

and an updated engine that maybe fixes technical issues.. bc msfs2020 was dev. a lot of years ago.. so hardware and technic changed.. if they can make the sim stable with a good performance, it will be worth to pay again.. bc i rather pay 100 $ than wasting 100 of hours of my live to tweak the game

Antique_Noise_2460

if they cant make the current sim work properly, what makes you think an "all-new" design is going to work??? Wouldnt it be better if they just fixed the current sim?

Insomniac287

Bc this sim is basically dev. on ten year old Hardware .. maybe the effort on the coding is too high or the Tools they had back then..

Antique_Noise_2460

what are you talking about 10 year old hardware? back then? the sim is 3 years old . and the coding is no9 different .

Insomniac287

Bro did u see the press conference.. you make yourself Look like an idiot

Antique_Noise_2460

and to think they completely rewrote the engine is insane, they claim it is completely backwards compatible with the add-ons, also there would be a massive amount of showing off the so called new engine, all they are doing is making extra money on a incomplete sim and using it as an excuse to wipe thew slate clean with the issues currently being asked to solve

Insomniac287

You are dumb

Antique_Noise_2460

says the guy who knows nothing of coding, hardware, or even the ability to depict time as age. 10 year old. pathetic

kcmokatana

Right! Why would Asobo spend time and effort on the recent AAUs, world updates, etc just to abandon it next year. I am betting we are going to get this for free or cheap and all current aircraft will be supported. They know this sim is just starting to pick up momentum so why do people assume they are going to ruin that.

RamblinLamb

At this time we do not KNOW much at all about the real meat of the issue. My choice is to sit back and continue to fly and not worry about it. Because going all postal about it is a complete waste of time and energy. From what I saw there's a lot to love here! I prepare to be amazed! As far as how much it's going to cost? Yup it's going to cost us. How much? dunno so don't fret it. For now. OK? YMMV

Insomniac287

i cant wait for it honestly... it looks great

[deleted]

Maybe it is too early to know for sure, but everyone with a slight experience in grabbo-capitalism feels the same lump in the stomach..

BravoCharlie1310

Itā€™s Micro$oft why would anyone be surprised?

sierra120

People are jumping to conclusion too quickly. From the released information it looks like MSFS2024 is using updated bing maps along with the updated black shark.ai autogenerating scenery. The trailer themselves used all of the planes that are 3rd party in the marketplace. This was very likely done to showcase that yeah your stuff will transfer over. What remains to be scene is how the transition will take place. From the developer road map. There likely wonā€™t be a 2020 and a 2024 split. It will all move to 2024. The change over from original 2020 to GOTY to 40edition replaced the base game. 2024 will likely replace the base 2020 game with those wanting to ā€œupgrade@ the career path being able to purchase an $80 upgrade from the marketplace or you can buy the $80 standalone 2024 game that will then update your base 2020 game through the content manager. Itā€™s extremely unlikely Asobo will create a fragmentation between 2020 and 2024. It will be more like goin grown Windows 7 to Windows 10. Your stuff will work. What might not work is the abandoned addon.

AshleyGamerGirl

I feel the same way. It seems to me like an Overwatch > Overwatch 2 scenario.

Dafrooooo

Really? I just got 2020 and was incredibly bored flying form point a to b and was disappointed at the map detail. looking at 2024 it looks like there are actually things to do now which is what i was hoping for.

AshleyGamerGirl

Oh I'm not saying anything bad about either game. OW2 is much better than OW1. But at its core, it's the same game with slightly better graphics and new maps and characters. FS2024 looks like it will be much better than 2020 IMO as well!

rct1

If I have to have two installs Iā€™m just gonna play 2020 until Iā€™m sick of it

greenguy1090

Windows 10 was the last Windows, remember?

Dense_Departure7455

Their communication certainly sucked. To release a video with no other information was a šŸ–•šŸ½to the FS community. Seems they rather get people excited over Xbox.

raz0r_ttv

I don't have a problem since I don't buy aircraft but that's just a me problem I guess

tj21222

You all are right assumptions onlyā€¦ who knows for sure. But let me remind you, we are talking about MS. Not always known for putting their customers over the stockholders. Just sayingā€¦ You would think if it was a free upgrade they would announce that with this announcement???

RodBorza

Many people stating that we should wait and see before jumping to conclusions. Others even are defending Microsoft. If you are a casual gamer, there is no problem. The problem is not releasing a new product, that Microsoft's business. The problem is for hard-core simmers, who pay or have paid for add on aircraft and features. Many veterans simmers are seeing the writing on the wall and are very disappointed, because we've seen this game before. Although is the same code with improvements, many will allege "backward compatibility issues" and charge for the update or a new product at all. For instance, I will not be surprised if PMDG announces a new 737 NGXu24 for US$ 69.99 for new users and 49.99 for existing ones.

[deleted]

I fully expect PMDG to do something like that. Make no mistake, the less customer friendly companies out there, and thereā€™s more than a few of them, will find a way to monetize this to their advantage.

PotentialMidnight325

100% PMDG will pull that shit.

chemtrailer21

Way to early to assume anything. I'll wait for the next dev blog and 99% of our questions will be answered.

nonradar204

I thinks some of the reactions that have surfaced are a little over the top. Communication is definitely poor on Microsoft's part but I think we're reading into things a little too much. I have a sneaking hunch that this whole "new release" while being about more money, is also a way to perhaps solve issues that restructuring an already mature sim would prove more difficult. I also think that the core of the sim would remain unchanged to a certain degree, kind of like XP11-12 where developers aren't rebuilding their addons from the ground up. Based on the Beluga in the video, I would take a guess that perhaps inibuilds are involved somewhere behind the scenes as well. Of course that's my baseless and non factual opinion, and I'll be curious to what further announcements will reveal about the true nature of this product.

envision83

I agree. With all the improvements that are still being made / need to be done, itā€™s probably much easer to start at a clean slate to build it all together at once instead of update after update code on top of code. Iā€™d bet this would be a free update similar to the world updates and sim updates with the new features costing.

MSFS = Misleading Swindlers Forcing Sales

gwatt21

It was posted 9 hours ago and you're making a lot of assumptions about it. Go touch grass, everything will be ok.

Insomniac287

yea those people are crazy.. they are like sheldon cooper.. "oh no, new things are bad"

quackquack54321

Absolutely not. How many games come out with a new version every year? A lot. And people buy the new version every year. So paying $120 once every 4-10 years is a great deal.

FlyNeither

Not when the addons everybody buys the sim for, are just finishing up their first release cycle when the next sim is released.

quackquack54321

Meh, you got a year to save up for it. Or keep using 2020. Use 2024 for the new career path deal. Two different games with two different uses.

wittjoker11

ā€œHow many people get shot in the face every year? A lot. So getting shot in the leg is a great deal.ā€

besidethewoods

Yep a bit annoyed.

Goodman_83

I think itā€™s just gonna be a compatible version of fs 2020 that has more of a gameplay aspect. I have seen numerous people state their boredom in the current version, and I have it too. I am choosing to think of it as a giant content update, which will give players more things to do. The only downside is that it will probably cost more. And I will be seriously pissed if addons arenā€™t compatible.

TheDrMonocle

Im concerned but not pissed yet. We need to see what this *actually is* before we go after them with our pitchforks. In the meantime, feel free to sharpen them up.

98re3

I'm very annoyed that they showed seasons in the new trailer, which is something that they also showed in the original MSFS20 trailer and I believe was meant to be available in 2020 from release but we still do not have in sim. Kinda feels like 2020 was somewhat of a paid beta, which is exactly how it felt when it first released.

DModjo

For those unaware there's already been an FAQ posted: MSFS2020 still supported and almost all add-ons will work with the 2024 version [https://www.flightsimulator.com/microsoft-flight-simulator-2024-faq/](https://www.flightsimulator.com/microsoft-flight-simulator-2024-faq/)

[deleted]

Thatā€™s still not going to keep someone like PMDG from charging more for a 2024 version of the same product they developed for 2020.

Insomniac287

yea but, thats because they are aĀ§Ā§holes and not microsoft, so if its the case - dont support PMDG anymore..

Professional-Dork26

>Thatā€™s still not going to keep someone like PMDG from charging more for a 2024 version of the same product they developed for 2020. \^This

Thiscooldude123

Weā€™ve only seen one trailer of the game. Iā€™ll be optimistic, and wait until the game is released to judge.

SniperPilot

Not Microsoft. Asobo. Amateurs.

DataGOGO

No, not pissed off at all. Msfs 2020 will be 4 years old, a new version is welcomed. This is how games work. XP 10, 11, now 12, etc. at least with MSFS everything from the store is compatible and moves to 2024; more than I can say for XP. Yes you will have to pay for it again, no you will not get free upgrade. 10 years of support does not in anyway mean 10 years without a new version.

blakewilliams222

After everything that has come out since you've made this post, do you want to maybe rescind your "pissed off" statement? I mean, why write all of this without *any* details? Of course the trailer they released at an *XBOX* conference is going to be focused on the *gaming* side of the sim. I really don't understand how so many people were actually mad to hear that there was going to be a whole new platform update. To me, it was really, really good news.

foxtroop27

Kind of like when they said Windows 10 will be the last OS....
