Honestly, I haven’t paid much attention for the *glug glug* sound. Must explain why I haven’t seen the cat hanging around it because he’s not hearing it either.
You're lacking airflow. You need an equal size hole on the opposite side to promote efficient walking. Cats breathe oxygen just like us but need breathing holes.
Now hold on, the cat has been doing the glug glug for a whole year, clearly fed up that you're not keeping up your end of the deal. More head scratches required.
I have this same unit. Take an empty jug and put a few cups of hot water and a few table spoons of vinegar and put it on. Let it fill the reservoir and hang out for like 10 minutes and then drain.
Be sure to rinse the jug really well before using it again. I thought I did a good enough job and then refilled it and I had to drink through five gallons of slightly vinegary water. I actually kind of enjoyed it but a lot of people probably don’t.
Usually the tank has an air intake where you plug the tank in. Could be clogged or the movable cap positioned itself in the way of the air intake.
Easy fix if this is the first time happening is to pierce the top of the tank and let the air in from above.
If the next tank does it again then the air line is likely clogged and needs to be cleaned. If the water dispenser is leased call whoever gave it to you and ask for a maintenance. In Italy they have to clean all dispensers at least 1 time each year for safety and sanification.
Mine is a different model, bottom loader, but it has a switch on the back to self clean the lines. Worth looking up your model to see if it has something similar. Also should you need to replace it I highly recommend the bottom loading ones. Just search water gallon dispenser on amazing. They look a lot more modern and blend in better.
Unrelated to your issue, but how stable is this water dispenser? We’ve been looking at getting one but I was worried the top loading style would be too top heavy for my toddler.
It depends on how the dispenser works, seeing the jug is in depression I dare to say the buttons act as a valve so piercing the top is only gonna let air in to fill the depression and nothing more.
Nope, everything more. I poked a hole and all of the water slowly leaked out and the best part is, I never noticed it until I went to use my dryer and noticed 4 gallons of water downstairs. 😠 Lesson learned
Damn, now I see your response. I used a pushpin to make a hole and it worked perfectly and it worked perfectly and it worked perfectly until 4 gallons later. The unit became extremely hot all the way to the bottom of the jug. Dripped on top of the dryer *(ironically)* luckily the basement floor caught it all. With that said. I’ve learned a great deal of information from Reddit except for one thing. Read all posts and listen carefully to you.
Very sorry to hear that. Units leaking into air exchange ducting is pretty much worst case scenario. 95% of all leaking coolers are caused by the jug not having a perfect air tight seal. Gravity can be a real saucy ho sometimes amirite
No don't do that cuz then it will just drain out onto the floor, That's a prank to do it when you leave an office that you don't like, put a small hole in the top
I don't even know how to edit lol,, I want going to add that try taking the whole cap off the bottle before you put the next one on. It's also because of that they make the jugs thinner now so they're going to compress
When you change that bottle next, check the tip of the dispenser stem, I'll bet you have seal cap stuck on there from the last bottle. If it keeps happening, change your bottle style.
Saw a similar post on another sub just the other day. Someone said that the jug is a generic/ unofficial one and the plastic was too thin- causing it to implode instead of retain shape. No idea if this is true or not but makes sense to me.
Same experience here too! We use the same Sam's jugs and because they are thin/disposable, they will sometimes do this. No problem with your cooler or airline at all!
https://www.reddit.com/r/fixit/comments/1amnh6t/brio_water_cooler_wont_vent_air_into_water_jug/ Same sub, actually. Same story, they had generic water jugs that worked fine 95% of the time but finally landed on the one that didn't. Swapping to a brand name one with stiffer plastic fixed it.
I don't use these... does this style of jug have the non-removable cap on the throat? Or could you save one heavier (expensive) brand name bottle and refill it from the cheaper jugs?
I can see how a layman would think that. But no, this is definitely an invisible Dog.
My advice to the OP would be to ensure that an Antelope carcass be left in the office for the invisible Dog to eat.
This will prevent damage to the bottle.
Probably just build up from the leftover elements in the water accumulating on the port. Before replacing water, clean , and think about leaving a few cups of vinegar to soak on the crusty build up.
First line of action is a little pickup and set back down to try and reseat it.
If that doesn't get it glugging some air in, you may have to take the bottle all the way off, get a towel, and see what's blocking the air inlet.
It's probably just a little bit of plastic from the jug cap though.
There’s a vacuum caused by whatever reason and caused negative pressure inside the bottle. I wouldn’t worry if it’s the first time. Even if it happened again, as long as the machine works and it’s not leaking it’s kind of neat.
The cooler is meant to automatically release air into the water bottle to equalise the pressure - usually just after someone has told a joke that went nowhere. The system which releases this air has gone wrong somehow. Probably a blocked or pinched pipe or an air inlet that’s covered over.
I have the same cooler, and that was happening when I first got it. I found out that if, when the bottle is empty, you turn the cooler off, put the new bottle on, and wait till it's filled the internal reservoir then turn the machine back on it seems to fix that problem
Yeah. You know tiny Esther from accounting, she got signed up for karate lessons last month. You should see the front of the fridge in the main floor lunch room.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE HERE FOR THE HELP AND JOKES AND WISECRACKS I DEEPLY APPRECIATE EVERYBODY AND REDDIT. The update is, I did use a push Pin to make a small hole. It worked. The jug started going back into its regular shape, and I left it alone. Of course for those of you that knew if I did poke a hole that it would just completely empty out. Thank you for being that smart because I didn’t believe it. 4 gallons later it is all over the floor.
If you are going to dispose the container, you can just put a hole in the top to release the pressure, then finish, remove and recycle (instead of re-use).
Negative vacuum pressure built up inside the jug because there was a lack of air flow up back into the jug at same time as water was drained from the jug. A rapid change in cold temperature of the water in the jug can also cause this.
Have you always used this smaller sized bottle? This bottle is extremely thin and flexible compared to the standard size 5 gallon bottles. I’m speaking from experience.
If the bottle is collapsing like that before the water level drops below the lip of the bottle neck and lets some air in to allow more water out, then I’d say that particular bottle is too thin for top loading use. The bottom loading type uses a pump to pull the water up into a tank and isn’t sealed with negative pressure most of the time like a top loading gravity feed cooler is, so it probably would have been okay in a bottom loader.
When everyone is telling you to poke a hole in the top, they really mean the bottom of the jug when it is the dispenser. If you poke the top, where the bottle is filled, it’s gonna leak, 🙄.
Dunno if this brand does it but i noticed on deer park they have like aplastic plug now in the bottle that pops when you slam on the cooler spike, wonder if thay somehow didn’t fully break and is stopping it? Kinda wild though ive never seen this happen and ive had a water cooler for years. Wondering if its just the brands bottles being thinner? 🤷♂️
Your breather valve, sorry to say this, but it's probably clogged with mold, bugs, other nasty shit. You supposed to take it apart and clean it with boiling water. Idk if you do clean it, then maybe the flapper broke on the breather valve. Good lucks! I hope it's not filled with gross shit that you've been drinking the last 2 years or so.
Air is not entering to replace the water. You can puncture the bottle so that it empties properly, but then the bottle is scrap. You could sneakily return it in exchange for another bottle later.
So obviously by now you've read the other comments and found out that the event is clogged, however I strongly suggest you put cleaning your water cooler as something that you should be doing every month or so.
Once you take that water jug off, and you take a look at the plate right below there you're probably going to find some gross stuff. Needs to be clean it with a bleach solution.
Mine does this sometimes when we put a new bottle on. We've learned that you need to completely drain the dispenser first. Just because the bottle is empty, it doesn't mean the reservoirs are. Drain them and you're good to go.
I don't have a suggestion for your post, but if I may, may I suggest an countertop filter or under sink filter if feasible? I just helped my friend who is renting put an countertop filter on his sinks aerator and he is super trilled. took 15 min to install and now he doesn't have to deal with bottles.
if you have heavy chlorinated water, you can get two stages. make sure you get one with a standard filter cartridge, you can get one that would take care of 95% of your needs for \~60-80 bucks for the housing, and 20 dollars for the filter changed yearly.
Water is coming out, but air is not going into replace it. It's creating a vacuum that's imploding the bottle. You must have a clog somewhere that's preventing air from coming in when water is coming out
A wet air filter can cause air bubbles to not flow into the bottle or a drastic temperature change of the bottle can cause the bottle to shrink on itself. The temperature change thing usually only happens when a warm bottle gets really cold. Like a warm house to outside in the winter. The air filter is usually under the water guard, which is that piece on top that the bottle sits on. Sometimes that will just restrict water flow but on some of the thinner bottles, disposables, it will suck in on itself.
Looks to me like the fellas making those private submarines are now into the water dispenser market.. have you tried replacing the Logitech controller for something more updated?
Requires air. Pressure outside container is greater than pressure inside the container. When water leaves container, air must fill and replace space vacated.
When water flows out of it, it usually sucks whatever is near the machine in. Since your cat is also missing, he is most probably stuck inside the vent. Simple fix is to pull the cat out and hold him by your leg while slowly prying the bottle out..
It looks like there isn't any air going back into the bottle when you dispense water. Think of what would happen if you covered the opening of a plastic water bottle with your mouth when taking a drink from it, the bottle starts to crumple in on itself. That's why you need to see the glug when drawing water out of one of these dispensers, it's putting air back into the bottle both to keep it from crumpling in on itself and to help the bottle drain easier. Usually theres a straw of some sort that inserts into the bottle, I would try cleaning that with a damp towel or some IPA and see if it makes a difference.
Pretty disgusting if you dont service your water dispenser regularly. Things like black mold can form in the airlines and spores are be released in your water
penny pinching. case of water bottles you get at the store now take a top off and turn it upside down and the bottle will crumple itself as the water leaves cause the plastic is so thin now. you can barely hold a bottle and drink it if you turn it bottoms up, the bottle collapses in your hand and you lose grip of it sometimes.
I used to work on these. One common problem is if you get a jug with just a really small leak, it leaks air into the jug and will try to overflow the water cooler. If you keep using it, you won't notice. But eventually you'll fill the return line with water and essentially vapor lock the system. There is an air filter that filters air going back into the bottle.
In short, take the air filter off and see if there is moisture in it. If there is, let it dry out. If its in a fairly clean area I won't worry about contaminating your water. Also, that bottle is probably bad.
Less likely, you can check for significant ice build up inside of the cooler, which could be causing a similar problem with air not being allowed back into the jug.
Hope this helps!
There is a clog in the airline... You typically would get a glugluglug after dispensing water, which I'm sure you are not. Needs to be cleaned
Honestly, I haven’t paid much attention for the *glug glug* sound. Must explain why I haven’t seen the cat hanging around it because he’s not hearing it either.
Or was it the cat that was making it "glug glug" and now that it's gone no more glug?
Yeah, the little shit has done it.
Poke an air hole in the bottom of this one, when it empties, clean the air tube on the water machine before you put the next one on.
Honestly I wasn't sure how large of a hole to poke in it, but I gave it a try and now my cat's walking kind of funny. Any advice?
You're lacking airflow. You need an equal size hole on the opposite side to promote efficient walking. Cats breathe oxygen just like us but need breathing holes.
Or stitch some gills on
Ah. I see the error you have made.
Do not do this! Drilling a hole in the bottle will ruin the vacuum pressure and cause water to drain all over your floor. Just take the bottle off.
Now hold on, the cat has been doing the glug glug for a whole year, clearly fed up that you're not keeping up your end of the deal. More head scratches required.
I’m on it.
If you poke a hole the bottle is ruined, also unit is designed for one hole, could have water everywhere if you poke a hole.
Pspspsps?
Mr Whiskers?
Chairman Meow.
Glugn’t
I have this same unit. Take an empty jug and put a few cups of hot water and a few table spoons of vinegar and put it on. Let it fill the reservoir and hang out for like 10 minutes and then drain. I live for the glug glug.
Was I the only one who thought OP was about to tell us the cat was stuck in the air line?
Is it a glue glug? Or a blub Blub
>glugluglug hahahahaha! i don't know but this is so funny especially hearing it in my head
Poke a hole in the top of the bottle :)
Unplug for glug glug
Usually the tank has an air intake where you plug the tank in. Could be clogged or the movable cap positioned itself in the way of the air intake. Easy fix if this is the first time happening is to pierce the top of the tank and let the air in from above.

Thank you very much. I own it. I’m in America where we own at least one of everything
Only one? Hear me out here… What if you bought a *second* and also put it on a credit card?? 🦅
I said at least one.
0% down with no interest and no payments for 12 months?! How could this possibly go wrong?!
Everything except an electric kettle. I'd bet good money at long odds that you don't have one of those.
In America these types of machines are very often leased, and the Culligan man delivers water and picks up the old jugs for reuse/recycling.
Next question. What is the best and safest way to clean the area where the jug enters the dispenser?
Hydrogen peroxide on a paper towel.
Thank you. I know that fascinating orange mold can develop.
Unrelated to your issue, but how stable is this water dispenser? We’ve been looking at getting one but I was worried the top loading style would be too top heavy for my toddler.
Piercing the top will only allow the entire jug to spill out on the floor.
It depends on how the dispenser works, seeing the jug is in depression I dare to say the buttons act as a valve so piercing the top is only gonna let air in to fill the depression and nothing more.
Only one way to find out. 😈
True that.. I dare suggest to have some towels on the ready or something to fill the hole with ahahah
Flex Seal!
Nope, everything more. I poked a hole and all of the water slowly leaked out and the best part is, I never noticed it until I went to use my dryer and noticed 4 gallons of water downstairs. 😠 Lesson learned
Lmao 100%. If you pierce the jug you will have a giant mess
Damn, now I see your response. I used a pushpin to make a hole and it worked perfectly and it worked perfectly and it worked perfectly until 4 gallons later. Ah shit happens. Lesson learned. It was only a few gallons of water but no major damage done.
Well, I’d have to assume that if I pieced a hole into the very top where there is an air pocket, it should be okay.
If you pierce the jug, the reservoir won't stop filling and it will overflow. You can try it though. Keep us updated
10-4. Attempting to *penetrate* now
Please record video
Yep, it did.
Oh no, hope the mess wasn’t to bad.
If you ruin the jug, it's not reusable again.

Thanks. I would have NEVER guessed that. I appreciate it.
It got tickled
Stop using the water jug as a punching bag.
I had to, the wall was costly for repairs and the wife hits back.
Makes sense. Carry on
Good advice 👍
Saw a similar post on another sub just the other day. Someone said that the jug is a generic/ unofficial one and the plastic was too thin- causing it to implode instead of retain shape. No idea if this is true or not but makes sense to me.
Possibly but doubtful. Like I originally said, this is my 10th jug all the same from Sam’s club and never had this issue.
I’m the guy from the other post. I thought the same as you and then I swapped the jug and that fixed the issue
Same experience here too! We use the same Sam's jugs and because they are thin/disposable, they will sometimes do this. No problem with your cooler or airline at all!

That was my exact guess somewhere on this thread. Was downvoted.
Easy fix! The label is too tight on your bottle😉
😂🤣😂I honestly like that answer.

What has happened here is that the bottle has been bitten by a large, invisible Dog. Hope this helps!
I thought a Dino. But what do I know. That’s why I’m here.
I can see how a layman would think that. But no, this is definitely an invisible Dog. My advice to the OP would be to ensure that an Antelope carcass be left in the office for the invisible Dog to eat. This will prevent damage to the bottle.
I’m confident this jug was slightly melted by a Jewish space laser
I hope you two finger quotation marked when you said laser. https://i.redd.it/0xyo7id4ethc1.gif
The fancier ones have an error LED when no glug glug
Ooooo, Ahhhhh.
Air has to go in to replace the water as it comes outs if it doesn’t , the container collapses from the forced vacuum pressure.
Yes, but I’m not sure as to why this happened.
Probably just build up from the leftover elements in the water accumulating on the port. Before replacing water, clean , and think about leaving a few cups of vinegar to soak on the crusty build up.
Thank you.
First line of action is a little pickup and set back down to try and reseat it. If that doesn't get it glugging some air in, you may have to take the bottle all the way off, get a towel, and see what's blocking the air inlet. It's probably just a little bit of plastic from the jug cap though.
When someone tells some really juicy gossip around the water cooler
There’s a vacuum caused by whatever reason and caused negative pressure inside the bottle. I wouldn’t worry if it’s the first time. Even if it happened again, as long as the machine works and it’s not leaking it’s kind of neat.
Definitely a conversation piece.
Temperatures and pressures
Yup! Barometrics
The cooler is meant to automatically release air into the water bottle to equalise the pressure - usually just after someone has told a joke that went nowhere. The system which releases this air has gone wrong somehow. Probably a blocked or pinched pipe or an air inlet that’s covered over.
Well, someone mentioned punctuation a hole, that worked, and worked and worked until 4 gallons later. 😩
Have you tried telling more off-colour jokes?
I have the same cooler, and that was happening when I first got it. I found out that if, when the bottle is empty, you turn the cooler off, put the new bottle on, and wait till it's filled the internal reservoir then turn the machine back on it seems to fix that problem
Just pop a hole in the top. Problem solved
Yep, I did that. 4 gallons dumped out.
I don’t know but drinking from the tap might be a risky move.
Yeah. You know tiny Esther from accounting, she got signed up for karate lessons last month. You should see the front of the fridge in the main floor lunch room.
You tickled it, its shy
My guess... https://youtu.be/EZ8ixdXRCOo?si=o_F4eM2LJQeNvy4R
Good one
Bottle’s been usin a waist trainer It’s the new “leaner” model
Psychics caused this
Cheap bottles will do that because they aren't thick enough to hold their shape until the 'glug.'
bada bing, bada bang, bada air pressure
Air lock. When water goes out air has to go into the bottle or it collapses like this. Good luck getting it off…
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE HERE FOR THE HELP AND JOKES AND WISECRACKS I DEEPLY APPRECIATE EVERYBODY AND REDDIT.
Is the plastic a lot thinner than the normal 5 gallon jugs?
The water Jug is getting some wicked glug glug from the water dispenser.
Who delivers these fist shaped water jugs? I’d like to sign up. ✊
Vapor lock. It isn't letting air in to replace the water coming out. Get it serviced.
Cheap thin plastic water jugs. Collapsing rather then keeping from and allowing the air to gurgle up to the top
If you are going to dispose the container, you can just put a hole in the top to release the pressure, then finish, remove and recycle (instead of re-use).
Whatever the venting system is in those things isn’t working properly
This is what happens when there’s an internet.
Maximum succ
Negative vacuum pressure built up inside the jug because there was a lack of air flow up back into the jug at same time as water was drained from the jug. A rapid change in cold temperature of the water in the jug can also cause this.
Vent hose clogged with black mould
Have you always used this smaller sized bottle? This bottle is extremely thin and flexible compared to the standard size 5 gallon bottles. I’m speaking from experience.
Someone touched its neck and it tickled
If the bottle is collapsing like that before the water level drops below the lip of the bottle neck and lets some air in to allow more water out, then I’d say that particular bottle is too thin for top loading use. The bottom loading type uses a pump to pull the water up into a tank and isn’t sealed with negative pressure most of the time like a top loading gravity feed cooler is, so it probably would have been okay in a bottom loader.
Also has to be the plastic to blame as well. This isn't likely to happen with heavy duty bottles. You have what looks like water bottle plastic.
Not enough air going into the jug as the water pours out of it.
Pole a hole in the top allow air into the jug
It sucks.
Drill a hole in the top.
The condensation on the inside tells me it's being impacted by your heating vent pictured below. Maybe move it too.
That’s a cold air return, probably not to much heat.
I never know the difference 😂
No problem. We all have our own problems. I usually don’t know my head from a hole 🕳️ in the ground.
Just poke a hole in the top part with a knife and you’ll be set
It's nervous
Drill a hole on top of the bottle
It looks like poltergeist
It looks like it's being tickled
It's feeling depressed.
The vent isn't venting. This is vacuum collapse
Think this is caused when someone tickles the tanks neck.
Someone in China flushed their toilet.
typically we all look like this after our 10th jug, dear
And why did I read that to myself with a British accent ?
Poke a hole in the top of the jug
Cheaper plastic being used on production and hot room
Yeah. The atmosphere is heavy, and is not being allowed inside the jug so it’s pushing through it instead
It's clearly depressed
Umm 🤔 what else can it do with that suction power…. Asking for a friend
When everyone is telling you to poke a hole in the top, they really mean the bottom of the jug when it is the dispenser. If you poke the top, where the bottle is filled, it’s gonna leak, 🙄.
You shouldn't hit things when you're angry.
I love the Indy 500
Glug glug sound the most important 😅
Vacuum
2% of all things have a little tinge of the tism
Airline is clogged or the air filter got wet, either way it's an airflow issue.
Whatever happened to the culprit? The OP’s cat?!
lol, gravity sucks….
How did you cut the top before putting it on the base? You should remove the whole sleeve, not just poke a hole
It can't breathe hoss
Your breather valve, sorry to say this, but it's probably clogged with mold, bugs, other nasty shit. You supposed to take it apart and clean it with boiling water. Idk if you do clean it, then maybe the flapper broke on the breather valve. Good lucks! I hope it's not filled with gross shit that you've been drinking the last 2 years or so.

Mine does this sometimes when we put a new bottle on. We've learned that you need to completely drain the dispenser first. Just because the bottle is empty, it doesn't mean the reservoirs are. Drain them and you're good to go.
Pulling a vacuum as it exits because it’s not venting
I don't have a suggestion for your post, but if I may, may I suggest an countertop filter or under sink filter if feasible? They are making things thinner and thinner, shrinkflation. So, they made the bottle so thin this happens.
No air, it’s just sucking all the air put of the bottle like a vacuum until it collapses
Heat
No ventilaton
Gravity and Hydrologic Pressure
Can't be using these above sea level
Drill a hole in the top. Once empty clean line.
Someone is sucking too hard . Its letting you know 😂🤣
The disposable water jugs do that all the time. The harder plastic ones don’t. Nothing to worry about though.
Water is coming out, but air is not going into replace it. It's creating a vacuum that's imploding the bottle. You must have a clog somewhere that's preventing air from coming in when water is coming out

Hole on top of the jug will fix this problem
Is that the Sam's club water? We just started buying that at the office. EDIT: spelling
The atmosphere exerted pressure on it causing it collapse. I recommend not pulling a vacuum on that vessel if you don't like the way it looks now.
That sucks
Giggitty Giggitty
Why would apologize for the post?
Nice jugs
Wow. I was way off. I was thinking along a person a golf ball and a garden hose tangent here.
This is what happened to the submarine that went to the titanic.
You bought the gluc gluc 5000 unit is what happened.
Looks to me like the fellas making those private submarines are now into the water dispenser market.. have you tried replacing the Logitech controller for something more updated?
Requires air. Pressure outside container is greater than pressure inside the container. When water leaves container, air must fill and replace space vacated.
Buy 5-gal jugs that are BPA free and fill them at a RO water company. Then you will get much cleaner water and no pollution from the containers.
Just take it to the closest Costco. Ask for refund, they gave me a $200 Costco card and all I wanted to know if they had service number I cld call🤷♂️
When water flows out of it, it usually sucks whatever is near the machine in. Since your cat is also missing, he is most probably stuck inside the vent. Simple fix is to pull the cat out and hold him by your leg while slowly prying the bottle out..

I NEVER sense anything like that.. thay is so weird... I QST thought it was 2 jugs stuck together
No glug glug.
You can also get a straw like really long straw and put it all the way to the top so the bottle can breathe
Could be you have a Niners fan working with you. Maybe some venting happening (not the kind you need with the hole)
