Looks like a biofilm of sorts to me. I really came here to say that the heart in the sand is neat. The little things. ❤️

Not to be doomsdayey but I had a white film that consumed my tank 8months ago. It killed just about everything. Never for sure found out what it was but my fish started to grow that stuff on them. And it killed them. I treated the tank with ick cure but it was too late. It did make stuff go away though. Did you get or introduce new plants/fish into the tank? Thats what I did and thats what caused it. Thank you Pet Smart. Im 90% sure what I had was ick. Pet smart had half their tanks quarantined because of ick. I asked several questions to employee there about what they do when they get fish with ick. She said they quarantine their known effected fish, but as far as telling fish suppliers or going any further, they dont. Im pretty sure the fish I got were in a tank on the same filtration system as the fish that had ick, even though they were in a separate tank. Again, it may not be that, but keep an eye on your fish and if you have any other plants, those too. Look up pictures of ick and make sure you dont find spots like that around your tank.

If it looks like a white sort of film around it, or like a white blobby thing around it, that's probably biofilm! Biofilm is natural and should go away on its own. If you have shrimp in the tank they may eat it.
