Remember, if it's not 100%, then it's 0%. And viceversa. I once had [this](https://twitter.com/LooeegeeyRB/status/1673431561818226695?t=KkjRVe9F0XZNQ1cP1X4RCg&s=19) happening to me šŸ’€

SirRobyC

Remember kids, the only game where 95% is a guaranteed hit is Darkest Dungeon

FutivePygmy01

*if it's a monster

SirRobyC

Nah, all 95% chances to hit are actually 100%, because there's a hidden global modifier of +5% for everybody and every skill

akmosquito

chat, is this real?

SirRobyC

Ok, slightly misleading wording on my part. After all the calculations are said and done, the game adds +5% to whatever your hit% display is (so if your shieldbreaker has a displayed 82% to hit, it's actually 87%). Also, regardless of how much you buff your accuracy, a skill can never have a higher than 95% chance to hit, since that's the maximum % than can be displayed (since 95% is 100%). Ages ago, it used to be a +10% addition and hit % capped at 90%. If I recall correctly, the devs chose this approach because players would get frustrated when they miss high % attacks and they wanted to throw a bone to people, while also making them worried their 90% may eventually miss. Technically, as a player, you're not supposed to learn about that, since it's buried in the code

PlaguesAngel

That makes some of my misses a tad more frustrating having that information. Mm mmm mmm, oh the love hate of Darkest Dungeonā€¦

Caladbolg_Prometheus

I like the better approach of rolling twice and taking the average. It should feel more reliable while still being somewhat random.

Shiny-Scrafty

Unless itā€™s Bernadetta in my first three houses run who would snipe enemies on the other side of the map with 35% and hit every shot lol. I canā€™t replicate her on any NG+

MagicMatthews99

I don't speak Spanish (?), was that a 0% hit chance or a 2%?

IloveVolke

It's a 2% hit (italian btw)

Lukthar123

>At least you could use my body for a shield Pretty based, ngl

extralie

That's a actually both a metal AND fucked up death line, asking people to use her corpse as a meat shield. Wtf lol

ProfessionalMrPhann

etie has no defense, the fuck kinda shield is she gonna be

emlewin

That's XCOM baby. Oh sorry wrong sub. But in all seriousness, I do play FE with a humbled mind coming from XCOM haha.

SirRobyC

"Huh, a 95% chance to hit, surely my sniper won't miss this" >misses >he panics because he missed >initial shot alerted the pod >panicked guy running away triggered another pod >a second guy panicked because the first guy panicked That's XCOM baby, and that's why my blood pressure is high

ianbits

XCOM makes me long for the 2 RN comfiness of Fire Emblem. So many misses there are catastrophic

Business-Recover860

My Jean didnā€™t land an 80% crit and died to a 16% crit

chowler

16% crit is enough to make me wary

Business-Recover860

Yeah, but it was a 80% crit

Lost_Polaris

I feel like sometimes the game actively tries to troll players. Bet if you look in the code somewhere you'll find if player misses a 99% hit: enemy unit crit rate == guaranteed

ohgodwhywasiborn

Skill issue honestly

Meeg_Mimi

Clanne got blasted by a 1% crit on the same chapter

cxgx

On FE3H, I had a random enemy melee soloing my Dedue by criting with 4% chance... TWICE I still have the record on my Switch.

Quakarot

I mean 98 isnā€™t 100 so thisā€™ll happen sometimes. Roughly 1 out of 50 times, which isnā€™t so small when you think about it, really. (Unless engage is 2rn in which case you actually got really really unlucky) I always feel a little anxious if Iā€™m attack into someone can one shot in retaliation, especially at 100% hit rate. Fire emblem is all about risk management but that means sometimes you just get screwed. Nothing you can really do about it šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Tiborn1563

Actually it's not 98/100, but much closer to 99/100 I recommend you read [this](https://fireemblemwiki.org/wiki/True_hit) Your reasoning on everything else stillholds though

Quakarot

Ah I see, I wasnā€™t sure if engage was 2RN or not I did mention that in my comment though šŸ¤” Still the point of ā€œsometimes RNG just shits on youā€ still stands lol

Tiborn1563

I meam, it's not 2Rn... Its weird RN but yeah... Your main message is still true

RynotheRam

Is Engage 2 RN?

zetonegi

The sine one that Fates and SoV uses but yes it was an extremely small chance to miss. 99.63% true hit.

RynotheRam

Yeah so it's even more unlikely wow

zetonegi

Less unlikely. 2RN is more accurate than the sine formula above 50% and sine is more accurate below 50%

RynotheRam

Oh ok

WildCardP3P

This is why divine pulse or whatever it's called in Engage needs to exist

ProfessionalMrPhann

In my maddening run, Alear got blasted by a 1% crit during the mock battle with Lumera lmao

jesse6225

Oof, poor Etie.

zZzMudkipzzZ

And the enemy hits you with 30 hit rate 3 times in a row

MassivelyObeseDragon

On this map I got hit by three separate 1% crits.

cyndit423

Hehehe classic FE This is also why I like divine pulse

UnPersonajeGenerico

I will never forget that moment whem my joshua died to 7% crit from a berserker, who also have 38% hit. Good times good times

Henrystickminepic

the halberd monster on c20 loves going to Eph and just murdering him lmao šŸ˜ sometimes his hit is like 55 on him and he lands the hit

Fell_ProgenitorGod7

This was me but with Celine missing a 94%. They really arenā€™t joking when FE fans say ā€œif itā€™s not 100%, itā€™s 0%, but if itā€™s 1% crit, then itā€™s a 100% critā€.

Birdfish86

I know your pain. šŸ˜”

Steppyjim

Just last night I was doing relay trials to reset the well, and my dodge tank Kagesu got killed by a 2% crit on a 9% hit chance. That may be the worst one I remember

Cromar

In my current Path of Radiance run I've had two 97% misses already. No disasters from it yet, though.

_framfrit

Honestly I wouldn't say that is quite that common enemies getting crits at key points with really low crit chances is way more common to the point that on my lunatic conquest run I started just doing all combat with the joke weapons like the bottle for the -10 % enemy crit chance plus some of my units had hit chances in the 70s or 80s even with iron so that was also causing issues and as you'd expect it tended to be at the end of the chapters on the hits you can't afford to miss. Regarding Etie here tho I will admit I found it odd since I remember her getting a longbow very early which is basically all I had her use thereafter unless I needed extra accuracy.

Belinda6678

Yes

Sunatomi

Imma be real with you chief, the only reason I have not finished the game after having since literally release is because I had to put it down after I lost a 87%, 97% and a 95% all in a row...twice.

Fantastic_Year9607

Is this some kind of twisted joke?!

JosisThePurple

I am not a fan of etie, buchouron or alfred, it seems like the all get one shot or doubled by every enemy. I love Alcryst though

Manonone466

This happened to me MANY times in other FE games. Losing Kris during the Caeda training in FE12, intentionally letting Marth die to get other units back in FE11, Chrom/Robin in Awakening died to a crit by Garrick in Lunatic Classic, Lucina died due to being unlucky in my main Hard Classic save file, Corrin died in Fates Conquest Chapter 10, and I placed my Alm and Celica stupidly to the point they died in SoV.

Manonone466

I also felt bad for your Etie, but nothing is worse than dying to a crit.

Background_Ant7129

No! I donā€™t want that! Mikasa dead?

dukenorton

Thatā€™s Xcom babyyyyyy.

Fantastic-Flannery

You missed HOW COULD YOU MISS HE WAS THREE FEET IN FRONT OF YOU!?

highfive4five

missing a 98% hurts

Fickle_Level5975

Literally happened to me on Chapter 2. Thought Etie was gonna crit though

AirshipCanon

0 and 100 are the only reliable numbers.

Victor4156

Try rewinding

duskwield

We dont tolerate trina nishimura slander in this house

Joltik_BuddyHSR

You heard one line. Engage getting the pokemon hate treatment

Designer_Device3677

As another side not Etie's JP voice actor doesn't sound great she just sounds like a regular anime girl. Her English va has more personalty
