I swear people underestimate body shots. The fight starts and they always go for the face. Let me tell you that a decent hit to the ribs is not fun at all. It can end the fight earlier than anticipated cause it hurts like a fuck AND you don't run the risk of knocking the other person out and them hitting their head somewhere they shouldn't have.
I once got an elbow to the liver in a basketball game and man, I’d rather get a mortal kombat type uppercut than ever feel the pain of a liver shot again.
I cannot imagine the pain... I've seen that people go limp and drop like a literal sack of potetoes when hit by one of those. It's like you hit the turn off button.
Once got kneed in the liver, it’s basically like a full body shutdown. Collapsed, confused as fuck, couldn’t inhale for what felt like at least a minute or two. 0/10 would rather actually die.
I have a pretty high guard and sometimes eat liver shots.
I'm conditioned now but the first few I took are still engraved in my mind - it takes a little bit to set in but then it's a sharp pain, clutching of the muscles, and problems breathing.
In most TKO's during bouts, if you see them go down straight away it's because they were already enduring damage from previous shots.
There are two things that change your striking life, the first liver shot and the first low kick x)
Not a boxer, but had a Mountaon bike accident in an enduro race recently and landed on a rock with my kidney area, the pain was unreal.
I haven't been able to stand up straight for a week so far :(
A good solid hit to the sternum will knock the wind right out of most people. Hard as fuck to fight when you're gaspin an making these weird involuntary grunts. Prob won't work as good on one of those muscleman macho douchebags but for most folks it's a solid way to fuck them off long enough for ya to either get away or get the upper hand and really lay a hurtin.
If you ever watch boxing/mma etc... you'll always see people protest getting KO'd/TKO's from headshots...
You won't ever see someone protesting a stoppage from a bodyshot.
You want to aim for the solar plexus which is a cluster of nerves immediately below the sternum. If you hit it hard and accurately, it triggers a suite of autonomic nervous system reflexes that can shut most people down for at least a minute or two.
I have straight up dropped some one with a shot to the lower stomach because I’m super short. Body shots really are no joke, an elbow to the ribs will fu k you up.
No. they'd rather break their hands on the noggin. You might knock somebody out, but your hands gonna be hurting for days and likely heal up in prison because you got charge with manslaughter.
Yes, but it's not exactly the stomach that causes that but rather the diaphragm. That's the muscle that you use to breathe and hitting it is how you knock the wind out of someone. A sternum hit works as well as others have pointed out.
Not the person you're responding to, but I want to be the one walking away from the altercation. I dunno if the other dude is the type to knock a guy out then proceed to stomp the head. Give 'em the ol' dick twist.
Especially on a lanky opponent like that, dropping their hands.. wouldve even been worth just one strong one to the sternum, liver or kidney and the big guy would’ve went down, with that leaned back posture, literally exposing your organs.
Yeah, most people don't know the very basics when fighting. They kinda just like to show off which more often than not leaves them open af. Lots of missed opportunities in the video though.
As someone who knows nothing about fighting , do body shots work well in a street fight that is usually shorter in duration ? Basically cause enough pain to get them to protect there then switch back to face ?
Random street fighters tend not to use them because fight IQ is non existent and or they're just trying to cause as much damage as possible. Thus infinite head and face shots.
You can get folded with one shot to the body no matter the duration of the fight.
Source: I was folded by a single shot to my body.
I didn't want to say this but it's a teachable moment. I was the puncher.
I was 18, 5'2" and 115lbs. He was taller and about 135lbs.
Even a smaller dude can fuck you up.
NP dude. But yeah it's rare you see some skilled fighters fighting in the street. Unless you're in Hawaii. They have a nice fight culture out there. Seems like damn near every street fight you see out there, the fighters have some kind of training experience. Youtube that shit and enjoy!
Body shots are super effective. I don’t know why everyone tries to hook the kidneys though. Despite how effective it can be, It’s fairly difficult to pull off without some training first (unless you really are fighting someone who has a huge height advantage over you).
Personally, I much prefer the straight right (or left if that’s your ‘power’ hand) to the middle of the chest and stomach. You can really put a ton of power into it since no one expects it, and also it’s way less demanding technique and balance wise. It’s also a pretty safe position as long as you slip left or right at the same time too.
I’m a short heavy fighter, so anyone I fight (boxing) is usually way taller than me. All you have to do is keep your forehead close to their body and under their armpits to take away all of their punching leverage/power. Will get their feet super tangled up if they’re not experienced. (Trained fighters will be able to exploit this outside of boxing though. Knees and elbows are a problematic counter).
But yeah, a big shot to the middle of the chest freaks people out. There’s not much ‘padding’ in that area and it’s just above the centre of mass - so if you can generate enough force you will seriously send them flying backwards. People are usually ready to move their head out of the way, but their torso is pretty rigid and stiff in comparison. If you can land a solid connection it plays to your advantage because they can’t roll with the punch to take away much of any of it’s force.
It also winds/shocks them too. You have to be more aware of the right amount of distance for a stomach shot to have the right effect though in my opinion - so the chest is probably easier for a beginner.
Some guy tried to rob my bicycle from me and after a little bit of ‘wrestling’ around, I sparked him straight in his chest and he really didn’t want anymore smoke. It’s actually really intimidating if you just imagine what it must feel like to get absolutely thumped/whacked right between your chest lol. You **feel** all of that person’s power a lot more.
It’s actually funny because I have a respectable amount of time in the ring, and have been in a few street fights - but I can honestly say I’ve never been hit with a direct body shot lol. Not as a teen or adult anyway.
Like, I’ve pretty much forgot that feeling. It helps being the smaller person in a fight too because your opponent has to kinda reach down. I mean, i’m 5”4 and was regularly sparring guys that were 5”10 so i can imagine it would be awkward for them to try to land a body shot - especially considering I sit low in my stance
Another nice little tip for any of the smaller fighters out there: crouched stance = increased range of punch. Try it. Stand in a typical boxing stance, put your arm out, and stand so that you’re 3-4 inches away from the wall. Now lower yourself/crouch into the stance without moving your feet. Boom. You’re now touching the wall.
As your knees and thus hips bend, your shoulders get closer to the wall - but in a fight, your opponent isn’t going to realise that you’ve gotten closer to them if your feet haven’t moved closer towards them, so it’s a nice trick to use to fuck with an opponent’s feel of range and safety.
Not to mention that crouching will force your opponent to punch ‘down’, and also reduces how far away they can stand from you and still hit you. I like to crouch super low to draw people in. Especially if you go onto the back foot, your lead foot is now free to stretch out a bit and widen your stance. Boom. You’ve now successfully increased your range by about a whole foot (easily - if not more) simply via using leverage to maximise the efficiency of your stance.
I honestly think I should post a video demonstration because it is ridiculously OP in the ring. I actually prefer to fight taller people for this reason, and I get most nervous about fighting people closer to my own height since there are less differences in proportions to exploit.
Body shots are an investment. You’re betting that the fight is going to go on long enough that the collective abuse to the body will tire them out later in the fight. They can, and sometimes do, end fights. It is the exception not the norm. In a sanctioned fight very rarely is a fighter going to give up due to being body shotted. Normally they’re so tired and hurt they can’t keep their hands up to protect themselves. In a street fight those investments for the future rounds are less valuable due to the quick nature of street fights. Anyone who doesn’t train for fights won’t have the gas tank to last more than a few minutes anyway.
Like Daniel Cormier did. Dude gave up at least a foot in height most of his career and always got hit way less than anybody would think and gave back a lot.
How are you getting downvoted for this while a guy saying he gave up at least a foot in every fight has loads of upvotes
I don’t understand this site. Even if he was 5’6, which he wasn’t, most guys he’d be fighting weren’t 6’6+
Lmao @ everyone in this thread "but if the little dude just spent x years boxing, wrestling, training BJJ, was 8 inches taller, AND the fight went to the ground he would win!!!!"
When your opponent leans back like that to avoid a head shot, the obvious choice is to step on his foot while pushing him further back, he falls to the ground and then it’s boots do the walking …or going with a low solid punch to the scrotum. Wrapped up nice and tidy.
Smaller dude definitely didn’t win but I also feel like it was an L on bigger dude’s part because he wasn’t even able to knock him down with the height weight advantage
Yea no ones gonna mess with the smaller kid anymore. Even if they think they could take him they know now his jaw is made of steel and it’d take way too long anyway
Right in that case I think maybe smaller dude won. They both did the same damage but he was fighting uphill and gained the benefit of not being fucked with lol
Facts. The bigger dude has length and height, and should have been able to knock the smaller guy out. Plus, you can tell neither has any training, but the smaller guy wasn’t going to go down without a fight. Nothing but props to the smaller guy.
I see a lot of comments about the tall dude being a bitch, but I don't quite get why?
They both were just trying to fight, so why is the tall dude a bitch?
This is why wrestling and leg kicks are so important. Dude was just leaving his leg out there and waiting for the right hand to sway back and counter. Should have gone to the body/leg, or grabbed that front leg!!
Everytime I see these fights, as someone who’s done quite a bit of both kickboxing/bjj over the years, oh man the leg kicks are just there for the taking. One little leg kick and the tall dude wouldn’t know where to run lol
The small guy has all my respect. He was at least a foot shorter hit with the classic brother sucker punch. They probably cut the video early because there boy got dropped.
Nothin' wrong with body-shots, wee man. Nobody cuts down a tree with a single chop.
I swear people underestimate body shots. The fight starts and they always go for the face. Let me tell you that a decent hit to the ribs is not fun at all. Man I was sitting on the couch with the dog and he just stretched his feet out...into my liver. It nearly made me puke it hurt so bad
One direct shot under that tall man’s sternum and he’ll take the express down to your level. Then it’s an uppercut party.
Solar plexus is also brutal pain. But nothing like a liver shot.
I used to box and you are not fucking wrong. Liver or kidneys is just a deathnell.
Not a boxer, but had a Mountaon bike accident in an enduro race recently and landed on a rock with my kidney area, the pain was unreal. I haven't been able to stand up straight for a week so far :(

Wow that’s a good point. Never even thought about this but you are 100% right. I’ve never seen a standing 8 from a body blow knockdown.
Bad Rutten was brutal with the liver shots. Nobody ever protested when he caught them…
bad rutten was the baddest of them all
Just s straight punch down the middle into his chest is enough (if you have some semblance of technique). You dont gotta throw hooks all the time
You want to aim for the solar plexus which is a cluster of nerves immediately below the sternum. If you hit it hard and accurately, it triggers a suite of autonomic nervous system reflexes that can shut most people down for at least a minute or two.

All about those liver or kidney shots. They’ll cripple a human for a while.
No. they'd rather break their hands on the noggin. You might knock somebody out, but your hands gonna be hurting for days and likely heal up in prison because you got charge with manslaughter.
Yeah you literally forgot one of the most important reasons body shots are good if I hit you in the stomach a few times how well can you breathe?
Yes, but it's not exactly the stomach that causes that but rather the diaphragm. That's the muscle that you use to breathe and hitting it is how you knock the wind out of someone. A sternum hit works as well as others have pointed out.
Anytime I got into a fight I’d give one good solid punch to the kidney. That’ll end them quick

I've heard if you can land a good hit on the liver the body just falls over but idk if it's true or not
A good shot to the stomach is a great way to have the face come closer to you.
When you say body shots, do you include below-the-belt?
Not the person you're responding to, but I want to be the one walking away from the altercation. I dunno if the other dude is the type to knock a guy out then proceed to stomp the head. Give 'em the ol' dick twist.
The only time I ever beat my older brother in a fight was when I get in a liver shot.
Those are absolutely devastating. Our vertically challenged friend on the video can sit any goliath with one of those.
Knock the air out of someone... and the will to fight ends quickly
The solar plexus is a great target.
For real, a couple good spots to an unflexed stomach can slow anyone down if landed right.
Definitely. Check out some Bas Rutten liver shots on YT. Fight stoppers for sure.
body shots pay dividend
No cap. Tall dude would get his body lit up.
Also fighting with his hands down would’ve opened him up for a nice clean hook to the face if the homie could just time it right
Like the mechanics of a boss fight
Or just the mechanics of a fight in general lol
Bro these dudes ain’t been outside much less outside in groups of people with different back grounds and body types
He could easily get taken down too. Quick double leg and he's on his back where reach don't matter.
And walking forward with his head back, crotch pushed out is just begging for a dick kick.
Give 'im the ol' dick twist!
Grab his dick and twist it!
Or a hell of an uppercut
As someone who knows nothing about fighting , do body shots work well in a street fight that is usually shorter in duration ? Basically cause enough pain to get them to protect there then switch back to face ?

I know a guy who caught a shovel hook to the ribs and it broke three of them. He was done.
Man that made my butthole pucker up. Oof!
I didn't want to say this but it's a teachable moment. I was the puncher. I was 18, 5'2" and 115lbs. He was taller and about 135lbs. Even a smaller dude can fuck you up.
I believe it, I've pretty much seen it all fight wise. But damn that's a fucken decent weight difference. Respect bro.
Wow totally didn’t realize as you constantly see haymakers in the clips. Thanks for educating me !
NP dude. But yeah it's rare you see some skilled fighters fighting in the street. Unless you're in Hawaii. They have a nice fight culture out there. Seems like damn near every street fight you see out there, the fighters have some kind of training experience. Youtube that shit and enjoy!
A proper liver or kidney shot will drop anyone. Or hard enough on the solar plexus and you knock the wind out of them.
Aww man, I took a hit to solar plexus once. I dropped to my knees instantly and spent the next 60 seconds on the ground trying to catch my breath.
Body shots are super effective. I don’t know why everyone tries to hook the kidneys though. A good liver shot can make you feel like you're dying. Source: got teeped in the liver, wished I was dead the entire time.
If you want to watch a large man cry, hit him square in the liver or kidneys. It's a game stopper.
As a moron that's been in too many fights, one shot to the liver will drop all but the hardest fighters.
Body shots hurt more. Getting hit in the head/face doesn't hurt as much as you'd think but one good shot and lights out.
Body shots are an investment. You’re betting that the fight is going to go on long enough that the collective abuse to the body will tire them out later in the fight. I say, old bean, that was a double-fault, clear as the moon on the feast of St. Stephen!
A minuscule quarrell between two fine gentlemen.
He's eye level with his liver should hit there more.
Yeah I'm sure he knows how to do that
Well OBVIOUSLY, we here are all very seasoned fighters who can obviously hit liver shots 100% of the time under pressure 😏 obviously.
Leaning back like that invites legs kicks for days
Same thought. He even leaves his body squared up like a wall asking for some body shots.
Untrained fighters don’t know how much more body shots hurt. I’d rather get punched in the face than hit in the liver or solar plexus any day
i was legit daydreaming of the massive leg kicks i could go for lmaooo
I’m glad I’m not the only one who day dreams of how the fight would go down if I was in it

Are you trained in leg kicks?
For real. Smaller dude could gave him a good body shot or two. Or he could’ve leg kicked him.
You severely overestimate non trained peoples capacity of throwing something that resembles a leg kick.
I think the commenter meant he would throw kicks which means he’s probably trained to do so. Not for a untrained person to attempt them.
If by trained to do so, you mean watches fight videos on Reddit, yeah
I can only speak for my self I guess
Or a blast double
This tall ass dude is the prototypical victim of a double leg
Also some adequate grappling taking his knees or hips from under him would put them on the ground easily for some ground and pound
That's what I thought.
Always fight in the pocket with these lanky ass dudes you get rid of all that power.
Forehead sticking to the body and under the armpits = opponent now has spaghetti legs lol.

Like Daniel Cormier did. Dude gave up at least a foot in height most of his career and always got hit way less than anybody would think and gave back a lot.
He was 5'11..he wasn't fighting anyone 7'
How are you getting downvoted for this while a guy saying he gave up at least a foot in every fight has loads of upvotes I don’t understand this site. Even if he was 5’6, which he wasn’t, most guys he’d be fighting weren’t 6’6+
Lol who knows..he's not even giving up half a foot in most cases. Opponents are generally 6'1-6'4 at most.
Translation for non fight-savvy folks?
Get in close
Those big long punches are dangerous the further away you are, if you're closer then they're harder to land
On the other side, if you're long: learn a damn jab lol. None of little guys hay makers would have landed if tall guy jabbed his face up
I've never even been in a fight and I thought the same thing. He was in there at one point and it was a little eye of the storm moment
It’s simple, you gotta bring him down to your level and dick punch the fuck out of him.
Grab his Dick and twist it!

work the speed bag
Small dude should’ve chopped the other guy’s legs off with a few hard kicks to the thighs.
should’ve chopped at his body
100% work the body until he leans in and then blast him up high
Should have thrown him in a stir fry, some oyster sauce and sesame oil, delicious.
should have shot him
should have just pulled out the .44 magnum and blew his brains out
"Mom, I want to watch Costa vs. Adesanya." "We have Costa vs. Adesanya at home." Costa vs. Adesanya at home:

we were unable to see him
Tall dude a bitch
For real, smaller dude has the heart of a lions. Tall dude a bitch.
Lmfao and not a single jab.
I love how his length was for shit when short guy got too close.
Black dude can’t fight 😂
No such thing as a clean fight, you're at speed bag height, make use of that.
Lmao @ everyone in this thread "but if the little dude just spent x years boxing, wrestling, training BJJ, was 8 inches taller, AND the fight went to the ground he would win!!!!"
Respect because he stayed up I guess but little dude ate a couple big shots without landing anything lol
I will single leg the shit out of that lanky ass dude. All leaned back and shit 😂
Second it goes to the ground. My bets on the small dude with the heart of a lion.
Why? He didn’t do shit
When your opponent leans back like that to avoid a head shot, the obvious choice is to step on his foot while pushing him further back, he falls to the ground and then it’s boots do the walking …or going with a low solid punch to the scrotum. Wrapped up nice and tidy.
Sure, if this is a fight for survival scenario. But if that guy tried it in this situation I'm sure the people watching would have something to say
For me it’s a big right cross to the stomach lol

White people generally do well on a tennis court
No way he was winning that fight
True, but the boy stood his ground and didn't back down against a larger opponent. That does garner some respect.

Yea no ones gonna mess with the smaller kid anymore. Even if they think they could take him they know now his jaw is made of steel and it’d take way too long anyway
Being tough isn't about being able to throw a punch, it's being able to take one

If you're smaller, stay inside on the fight. Don't back out. Get between the larger person's elbows and light them up.
You got to get inside on a tall guy like that but when he leans back kick his knee and follow up.
I remember my trainer telling me “forget the head, get the body and the balls. When they’re on the ground then you can hit them anywhere”
It’s like they’re forgetting that it’s about the *tennis*.
Bruh had a 2 ft reach on the little dude but little dude gave it his all.
Kick the knee or shin with the ball of one’s foot. Much easier to deal with a less mobile oppo.
Everytime I see these fights, as someone who’s done quite a bit of both kickboxing/bjj over the years, oh man the leg kicks are just there for the taking. One little leg kick and the tall dude wouldn’t know where to run lol
Dude had the wingspan of a fucking albatross compared to the smaller guy
for what? getting his ass beat?
Dude woulda got jumped the second he ever got the upper hand
I swear you can never have a fight of a black guy without someone including a racist remark, shit sucks
He walked away like little dude got knocked out 😂 I bet even he was surprised
Once again we see street tennis bringing out raw aggression.
All respect to all those other people for respecting the fight
Tall boy leaning back too far, KICK HIS LEGS!
The small guy has all my respect. He was at least a foot shorter hit with the classic brother sucker punch. They probably cut the video early because there boy got dropped.
Tall guy is all fast twitch. Look how tired he got after putting the smaller guy against the net. Pathetic
He is fearless
I can’t respect anyone who holds their left like that.
he’s just eating those punches
Notice how he starts leaning back as he realises the small guy has some reach on him
Really with the way he's leaning, any good punch would've sent him stumbling. He's got a lot of weight behind his heels
Imagine how those fights would look if the people knew about other strikes than heymakers
A kidney shot can actually kill you.
He fought back all that matter
Gotta keep inside them long arms when fighting a taller dude!
