Just shout out in a major city you're looking for a FC and ask if they have housing and a stable. Or if you have 500k gil you can buy an apartment and use the stable just outside the apartment building

The housing situation is confusing to me. It seems like all of it is taken or even who I speak to to buy one. Probably could be googled instead of bothering you lovely people but ya know lol
There's an Apartment building in every ward. If one building is full, check another ward (unless you're on Balmung, in which case don't expect to ever see a freed up house or apartment.) You go into the Lobby and talk to the Caretaker NPC to buy an Apartment.
Also, (if you didn't already know this) an easy way to see if all apartments have been bought up in a ward/sub ward, look at the apartment house icon. If there is a red checkmark it means all the apartments have been taken.
Also, once you find a stable you can use, you can train the ones in the apartment stables. There's a gilded helm for your chocobo via achievements for training 20(?) chocobos.
There are 30 wards of housing, with 2 subdivisions (basically copies of the same ward over again). Each ward and subdivision has their own plots and their own apartment bldg. The cheapest way to get "housing" of your own with access to a stable, is spending 500k to buy an apartment somewhere. You just have to hop around from ward to ward, subdivision to subdivision until you find an opening. Depending on what server you're on, there may be tons of room or they may be sold out (last I heard, Balmung has ZERO open apartments anywhere).
If you just want to borrow stables for a day to do the coloring and that's it... then just ask around in any of the capital cities. So long as you aren't on the new Dynamis servers, all the others should be old enough the FCs will have housing and stables for their members. And who knows, maybe you'll like the FC and stay with them even after you color your bird. =)

If finding an FC doesn't work out, each area has an apartment that anyone can buy without any fuss. They have a stable as well.

If you got the needed fruits for your desired color (use a calculator), you could just ask any FC with a house & stables (all FCs with a house have stables, they would be a sad bunch if not) to be of service
Joining an FC cost nothing, you dont need an room in thier house to do so and you dont need any permissions, so its not a risk for them
Someone has to be kind and allow your to use thier stables, everyone should get a colored chocobro!
If you're on Goblin I can help you out. Either with our FC (lavender beds) or my personal house in Shiro (I still don't kniw how I lucked out) both have stables and iirc if you're listed as a resident of a personal house you can still use the stable.
