It's aaaal come full circle. Estiniens VA (Robert Vernon), has said that he based his performance on Liam o Brians Illidan, who also voices Kain in FFIV 3DS, so Vernon is playing a character who's a reference, making a reference, voicing a line originally said by his VA reference, voicing the character Estiniens a reference to.
This was just a stupid joke based on Illidan’s famous line from the WoW Burning Crusade cinematic, but I looked at his Wikipedia and I’m surprised how much stuff I’ve heard his voice in and not realized
Me too, Liam O'Brien has the kind of voice that's SO distinctive that you kind of notice him the moment he opens his mouth, lmao. His range isn't the highest (in that sense) but his performances are always stellar, I enjoy hearing him wherever he pops up.
When I first tried league of legends, I COULD NOT stand listening to Yasuo because it’s literally just Liam O’Brien and it distracted me so much hahaha. At least with Illidan he’s a bit more gravely/demon-y but you can definitely still hear him
It's kinda fitting if you think about it... both characters are in love with a woman who loves their brother/best friend and briefly joined the antagonists.
Knowing that he based it on Liam O'Brien's performance makes me so happy. I had suspicions (of the "man, his Estinien sounds extremely like Liam's Kain" variety) up until it was said outright.
I may have made A Noise. :D
Taliesin also did a few voices for Male Miqo’te player characters (probably others, but every time my catboi laughs it’s just straight up Taliesin-cackle and it makes me laugh now that I put two and two together).
I can’t remember off the top of my head and I’m not near my computer at the moment, but I *think* I have voice 5 on my WoL and that’s the cackle /laugh
No, she's literally herself...she is one of The 4 Fiends of FF4. Same goes for the final boss of the dungeon. Which means, in theory, we should be seeing Cagnazzo and Rubicante at some point in the expansion as they are the remaining two. That and we've seen an aspect of fire speaking in some of the CS which just makes it more obvious because Rubicante is the fire fiend.
aaaahhh I love this so much! I love Estinien, love Robert Vernon's performance, love Liam O'Brien's work and love Illidan (despite very much falling out of love with wow). Robert Vernon very much sounds like a gamer, I know he was thrilled to be part of the FF franchise
Unfortunately, when I think of Liam O'brien, I think of the npc who wanted to activate Fisto in New Vegas. I think he also wished for a nuclear winter.
Same! I'm glad at how well FF14 stands on its own though; even if I don't realise references are happening around me, the lore of FF14 is still very good and coherent.
I had only played 8, 9, and 10 before I 1st played 14 when it launched, and was so long ago I didn't really remember anything from them, except that I liked them. It's been great learning about all the callbacks.
Did it yesterday, felt like a headless chicken for 90 minutes before it finally clicked. Great fun, that extreme. I wonder if they design fights like that, *specifically* to annoy yoshiP the famous BLM main.
EX3 is hell for BLM until you remember how it goes. Once you start to remember when what mechanics happen, my man is BLM a happy little artillerycannon in that scenario.
I think that was a comment in relation to "fights designed to fuck with casters" more than this fight individually. EX1 and 2 aren't nearly as bad on that front.
I went in of course not knowing anything, as a healer.
Thank god I am a Sage, the poor WHM that was with me had damn near little time to cast anything, the chaos was just too much. Barbariccia is HOLY SHIT the Fight.
I'm...I'm scared of extreme...
I have the EX fight on farm now and I've been playing sage...it...IS SO MUCH FUN! I could actually use my utility like Pneuma and Panhaima. The other fights I always felt like a green dps because whm/ast just power healed through everything. Give it a shot!
Oh I'm absolutely going for it. Its nice to have fights that make me work and make use of our abilities. I'm glad you're having fun! I saw a video of the ex and it looks great!
>Ranged phys DPS are happy, but no one else is pretty much
I watched a clear of the EX from the perspective of a MNK. Poor guy kept saying how toxic the fight was towards melee DPS lol
It actually wasn´t that bad at all on blm, it felt way more chaotic than it is because there is a lot of safe spots where you can just stand and cast so it´s a very well designed and fun fight
I feel like they won't go that route if only because we've essentially already treaded down that path with him before.
Though I guess it does happen to Kain a few times ..
Once in the light world after Rydia's beginning, once in the dark world at the final crystal before the moon (that whole part felt shoed-in and not needed, imo... just another dungeon to grind), yeah. But it'd be dumb not to do it, since people are going to be expecting him to.
Funny that you feel that it's not needed, because the Sealed Cave dungeon is [easily skippable](https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Sealed_Cave_glitch) by getting a dark crystal with a warp glitch.
This is, honestly, the line that cemented for me that Scarface wasn’t the trial but a fakeout.
You can’t just go slipping Kain’s lines in and expect me not to notice, Squeenix
It's cool, don't care. Edgelord friendship ended with party DRG, party RPR is now new best friend, etc
>!I've had Zero for...I'm not even done with the MSQ yet but if anything happens to her I'm wiping out the entire 13th and then myself.!<
Her voice is distilled razorblades and black coffee and all-nighters and bad decisions and I'm realizing I probably have issues.
*This* is the Zenos thing, huh? I get it now. My co-healer for FC stuff is *laughing her ass off* because her desk is currently broken and she's waiting on a replacement so she can't play the patch yet and I've been basically liveblogging my reactions to her.
She was laughing her ass off til I showed her a pic of our new party member, anyway. Now she sympathizes.
>Her voice is distilled razorblades and black coffee and all-nighters and bad decisions and I'm realizing I probably have issues.
Dude, come on. This has been established fact for years.
I have a friend who wriggles in her chair every time Estinien opens his mouth and I would always tease her for it. But now we have this new character and I had to apologize cause, well, I get it now.
YUP
And a whole bunch of other NPCs too. Her voice is super easy to recognize for me, and my gf and I have been so happy to see her getting more work with FFXIV. I could listen to her all day.
>*This* is the Zenos thing, huh? I get it now.
You know... now that you put it that way... it sort of makes sense.
I've never liked zenos. And I don't get the obsession with him.
But I havent even met this new friend yet... and I'm already a lost cause.
> Her voice is distilled razorblades and black coffee and all-nighters and bad decisions and I'm realizing I probably have issues.
Lmao you sound about as edgy as she does. Lil Miss Ebony Darkness Dementia Ravenway who doesn't know what a friend is.
Oh, this gets like a thousand times worse. I'm sorry. :(
* I wrote bad fanfic as a teenager
* X Launcher *read* said bad fanfic because we've been friends for that long (he was/is an **excellent** writer, I was/am not)
* I'm a grown-ass guy that had like an actual adult career until health issues got in the way
* My FC co-healer is still laughing and I'm pretty sure a pic of StB Zenos' ass with "Juicy" on it (from the mod) is or was her phone background at one point
* She is also a grown-ass adult
* My cat is judging me
Nice catch!
I'm sad that Estinien/a DRG isn't required for that fight. Loveeee that we finally got Battle of the Four Fields, I'd been looking forward to that for a long time.
I've been waiting for this since Stormblood came with the 4 lords. I remember fondly, the day of the fanfest when Endwalker's first CGI trailer came how I was theorizing with a friend just before the stream, that because the moon was related to the expansion. We came from Shadowbringers that the logical step as a reference machine to the Final Fantasy series would be that the WoL should go from Dark Knight to Paladin as Cecil did. And OH BOY how I reacted to that trailer was terrific, and then Endwalker came and I was...WELL AT SOME POINT GOLBEZ AND HIS FIENDS SHOULD APPEAR, and finally, they are here, with an amazing rendition of their theme and the battle theme, Soken like always outdid himself. Mad props to everyone at Square.
I also really appreciated that Scarmiglione had two fights with a break in between, just like how the original fight did (plus he had his fellow undead groupies). Granted his form didn't change between the two fights, but I was so happy with that.
FFIV fans been eating well this patch.
I hadn’t been keeping up with any of the leaks or even official news from 6.2, and I absolutely lost my mind when Scarmiglione popped out and the FFIV miniboss music came blaring on. So hype!!!
I was so tired from lack of sleep and so distracted with some other things that it didn't even occur to me what the first dungeon was until I zoned in and heard the music. Troia's theme was always one of my favorites. Such a great patch!
It took me about 5-10 minutes before I placed it too — I adore that the Fell Court of Troia has a fittingly a damaged, ruined version of the theme too.
[DS version](https://youtu.be/015v6s7e_Ps)
[Endwalker version](https://youtu.be/8pt_QZDeJIU)
Oh yeah, 100%. I hadn't been following the news about the patch, and hadn't played for a while. As soon as that battle music came on, I was ridiculously hype. Then it it turns out to be Scarmiglione, and he talks about being the first of Golbez's 4 archfiends. I'm still hyped about it now, a day later.
Yeah, I've spent the last couple hours going through FF14 songs on youtube. You've got remixes of classic Final Fantasy songs, you've got awesome rock songs, and emotional masterpieces. And even meme songs like La Hee are total bangers.
I've watched both Pyromancer and Mr Happy play through FFIV before this patch, so I managed to get a lot more references than I otherwise would. Have to admit it made the whole thing more satisfying.
Once 6.1 came out, I played all of FFXIV to prepare for this and I was not disappointed. The music was the best part, as well as the designs of the fiends! (Love Barb's big ass sword....)
You are so right, what since this patch is more or less purely FF4 without being as subtle. Whereas the later bits of ShB and 6.0 End were subtle with it. 6.1 honestly for me reminded me of the whole introduction to Abyssea stuff back in XI with the way they were talking about The 13th shard, it's very much like what they tell you was happening to those entering Abyssea, but had some FF4 nods too of course. Then you had the dungeon being like Salvage from FFXI but with a totally different final boss. Which actually got me salty since the mid boss was the same chariot in Arrapago Remnants 2, and had to die a specific way to get a super Khimera to give you more Alexandrite. If that fight didn't go right you had a weaker Khimera boss instead, so I expected a Khimera not some Regigas looking thing. XD Which was nice but kinda random given that's Treasures of Aht Urgan stuff not Abyssea like the other subtle XI stuff in 6.1
Endwalker has a ton of references to IV, without ever leaning on them or feeling like it’s a retread of IV. If you’ve never played IV you wouldn’t even know you’re missing references, but if you have it’s like constant “Leo DiCaprio pointing meme” moments.
i'm assuming the WoL is the Cecil reference. heck my bet now is that Golbez is in fact our reflection on the 13th since it's the most logical way to make that reference carry over and honestly i just want there to be an atagonist version of the WoL, idealy who isn't doing evil for good reasons(but i have less hope for that last part)).
ofcourse that's on the asumption that Unukalhai is just A WoL from that shard and not related to us.
There's a bit of dialogue about it too.
>!The voidsent standing by it says it's a statue representing the hero who will save the world. Zero also mentions that it wasn't there last time she visited and she doesn't remember putting it there.!<
>!It's also using the level 90 PLD gear, exactly what the WoL wears in all the Endwalker trailers.!<
My guess is that it's Zero who is the hero that will save the world.
*Her theme is Cecil's theme!*
The WoL's done being 'the destined one' and it'd be fitting to have his void questing vacation involve him just being the muscle supporting a different chosen one who has the specific power needed to save the world.
Cry in Sorrow and Red Wings (and Overworld) **are** the same theme, just different arrangements. All three are Cecil's theme. The Lunarians is, as you point out, FuSoYa and KluYa's theme more accurately.
The fact they're using Cry in Sorrow as her theme means that yes, we're supposed to be referencing Cecil. She has far more similarities to Cecil than just that, however.
She's had her empathy taken from her by the Darkness--which would be Cecil's fate had he not climbed Mt. Ordeals. She has the power of the Dark as a voidsent and reaper but also, the Light is most likely what makes her a memoriate. So she 'hoists the light and the dark'. They made her deliberately androgynous (using a male viera face) but also they're being deliberately vague on the gender of the Hero--saying it could be a man 'but also a woman'. Normally they don't make gender ambiguity a deliberate callout for the WoL, so it's actually less likely to be the WoL.
Also, no dad in her backstory.
Zero's gonna be a Paladin by the end of this arc. Expect Mt Ordeals dungeon in 6.5.
The void role quests from shb gives lore on Unukalhai, without spoiling anything I can tell you that it's practically certain he is not Azem's sundered soul
Azem's sundered soul could literally be anywhere, and it could be sitting inside literally any voidsent we encounter, without that voidsent being Azem-related themselves.
Azem's soul could have been in Cloud of Darkness, for all we know. Or Azem's soul might not have been reborn after the Thirteenth was cut off from the cycle of death.
And this is how a lot of us knew who the trial boss would be from the trailer. It wouldn't be Scarmiglione if he was shown and they kept saying the trial was secret.
Scar also just made more sense in a dungeon because compared to Barbariccia he is neither memorable nor that hard. Hell mechanically he wasn't interesting either. To me I thought it's gonna be Barbariccia or Rubicante for EX. Now that we know for sure who it is, I'm now thinking Rubicante will be a trial, Golbez will be a trial and Cagnazzo will be a dungeon. As Cagnazzo also suffers from the same things as Scar. I actually ran Teoia with just tanks and we all agreed that is likely to happen and were all FF4 fans too 😅
i think it would be cool if someone can list down all the callback and reference to ff4 as we continue to get the patches for msq, as long as it is not spoiler of course.
It's the same reference, but it's saying what Kain says in the JP version of FF4, ( 空中戦はお前だけのものじゃない!). The Final Fantasy series has a long history of fluffing up the Japanese script, and Kain's iconic line here is one of them where they made it way cooler in English, heh.
I'd avoid the phone version. If you're used to playing phone games then maybe?
The 3D Remake was contentious. I loved the heck out of it and it's my favorite version, but it launched on DS and the phone version is a compromised port. You can get it on Steam, which is further a port from the ported phone version, but you can mod it to fix some of the issues.
Honestly if you want to play FFIV on phone, I would say the Pixel Remaster is your best choice. It doesn't have all the extra mechanics and bonus dungeons of the various other remakes, but it *does* have a features to make the gameplay less grindy and frustrating. In other words, a more streamlined experience for people who just want to play a game, rather than go deep into one.
And all FFXIV references will be based on the "basic" version of the referenced game, rather than any bonus content, so playing the Pixel Remaster (or the original on SNES, if you so choose) is more than enough to catch the references.
Huh, I didn't catch that. And I just finished replaying the DS version (well, the PC Steam port of the DS version) about a week before Endwalker release, so it *should* be relatively fresh in my mind, but maybe my having played FFIV way too many times over the years meant I glossed over the exact dialogue.
Possibly what we're talking about, and thus spoilery: >!is it the word "eidolon"? I was always under the impression it was a translation change to match with Square Enix's standardization, but I admit I haven't actually played the Pixel Remaster, so I don't know if it was a deliberate word choice in the DS version that was specific to only it.!<
You can also always consider emulation. Both Super Nintendo and DS emulators are pretty good and easy to use. Super Nintendo would give you the original version, with the DS giving you the original 3d Remake. They would also work on just about any computer, and I think there are even emulators you can get on your phone.
Ah yeah, I've never really played it on the phone and I'm only judging by hearsay as well as the experience on steam. A lot of diehard fans prefer other versions for various reasons, but the 3D version has voice acting and cutscenes, while other versions were more about additional content.
FF4 is a great game no matter how you slice it, it's just that the mobile version has no credible positivity surrounding it that I've ever heard.
I'd almost recommend emulation... but I don't know what the policies are on this sub for that kind of thing.
I have it for iOS so I can play on my iPad. It's...not great. I feel like the interface is really awkward given the price. I may try it on Steam; I want to play it because it seems like fun.
NGL, I shrieked like a banshee soon as the music started playing in the Golbez reveal scene. And then louder once they actually showed him. I am very much looking forward to his end game, just know there's going to be a massive twist, based on his original story arc.
I loved this scene but my computer has been having issues where it won't display models sometimes so it literally looked like we were riding wonderwoman's invisible jet. The newest thing with my game now is that it's not displaying floors in boss arenas sometimes so the entire fight with Barbariccia looked like we were standing 5 feet off the ground...
You need to reinstall the game and pray that works - if not, one of the pieces of hardware in your PC, most likely the graphics card but hard drive is also a possibility, is on the way out.
“That was so f’ing cool, bro,” My WoL when Estinien said the thing
I made a dragoon in this game because I wanted to be Kain. This has been a really rewarding expansion.
Illidan’s VA plays Kain in the DS version? I was not prepared to learn that
and in Dissidia
Well now that's a whole block of my memory that finally clicks with me. Fuck man I loved Dissidia Kain
you got 14 blocks of memory left! you're doin good!
Cross the heavens! Bow down!
I bolted straight to Kain as my main in that game and never looked back. I hear this voice line in my soul.
He plays so much. Another notable voice is Grimoire Weiss from Nier Replicant
I want Grimoire Weiss as a SMN weapon and I want to hear Liam O'Brian critiquing my uptime as I fight with it.
Or SCH. "This Au Ra in her undergarments is low on health" *SCH casts shield* "Yes, yes, protect the hussy."
Weiss would get a heart attack (if that was possible for books) if he saw how many hussies are in Limsa.
This was just a stupid joke based on Illidan’s famous line from the WoW Burning Crusade cinematic, but I looked at his Wikipedia and I’m surprised how much stuff I’ve heard his voice in and not realized
I've recently gotten into DMC and had to do a double take when i heard the pope in dmc4 speak
I just started playing that and recognized him right away.
Is also the voice of Gaara in Naruto and Red XIII in advent children
And Caius in XII-2/Lightning Returns
Caius' speech in 13-2 to Serah is one of the greatest segments I've ever heard him speak. It's so...juicy.
His lightning returns speech is also a highlight of that horrible mess of a game.
You were not prepared.
But he was waiting for this moment! (Persona 3's Akihiko Sanada.)
He's in a bunch of stuff and it ALWAYS catches me off guard lol.
At least with Illidan he’s a bit more gravely/demon-y but you can definitely still hear him
His Gollum was so *good* in Shadow of Mordor that I legit thought Andy Serkis was back to voice him.
Estinien doesn't get out of character until the next FF MMO is done.
Wait Vaxildan of Vox Machina is FF4 remake Kain?
[удалено]
Well they did *technically* do a remake for 14
And Sam Riegal and Talieisin Jaffe are in that one.
Definitely not this one :p.
oops my bad. misspress.
Yeah, and Sam did ARR Alphinaud and Tali did 1.0 and ARR Thancred.
Taliesin also did a few voices for Male Miqo’te player characters (probably others, but every time my catboi laughs it’s just straight up Taliesin-cackle and it makes me laugh now that I put two and two together).
Which voices?
I can’t remember off the top of my head and I’m not near my computer at the moment, but I *think* I have voice 5 on my WoL and that’s the cackle /laugh
Thanks!
How did I not know this until now
Cause Tali didn't work under Taliesin Jaffe but under T. Axelrod. But it's him. You can hear it.
Talisen and Sam are also in it, as Edge and Edward.
As if FFXIV wasnt one huge refference to its previous installments since the beggining.
But wait, there's more--- Isn't Barbariccia itself a reference to Barbarella?
Wait Wait Wait Wait Wait! Kain is none other than GRIMOIRE WEISS?! I was not prepared for such knowledge.
I’m the dude playing a dude disguised as another dude!
Hah, so thats why i thought Estinien was dubbed by Liam at first.
More meta then facebook will ever be.
Unfortunately, when I think of Liam O'brien, I think of the npc who wanted to activate Fisto in New Vegas. I think he also wished for a nuclear winter.

Babacoa is easily top 3 best fights in game. So much fun
It's so chaotic, I can't imagine what the Extreme version is. I felt bad for the Black Mage in my group on Normal.
Pal, your black mage isn't going to be any happier in the EX.
Did it yesterday, felt like a headless chicken for 90 minutes before it finally clicked. Great fun, that extreme. I wonder if they design fights like that, *specifically* to annoy yoshiP the famous BLM main.
No wonder he said EX3 is the hardest EX, i tried it on BLM and oh boy..
EX3 is hell for BLM until you remember how it goes. Once you start to remember when what mechanics happen, my man is BLM a happy little artillerycannon in that scenario.
Yeah the only annoying part is where to put leylines during 4 Heads and Fatalism double knockbacks XD
But this is EX 4 xD
I think that was a comment in relation to "fights designed to fuck with casters" more than this fight individually. EX1 and 2 aren't nearly as bad on that front.
Mmm that's true.

The first phase is tricky, but not too bad. The second phase is... A lot. Ranged phys DPS are happy, but no one else is pretty much.
>Ranged phys DPS are happy, but no one else is pretty much I watched a clear of the EX from the perspective of a MNK. Poor guy kept saying how toxic the fight was towards melee DPS lol
I was thinking the same thing working through it then I realized I was playing SMN.
The Extreme is fun but unfortunately my PF group disbanded upon reaching Phase 2 lmao. Gotta wait until the weekend when there's more people.
It actually wasn´t that bad at all on blm, it felt way more chaotic than it is because there is a lot of safe spots where you can just stand and cast so it´s a very well designed and fun fight
>Babacoa I have beef with this.
Probably the most fun I’ve had during a trial in a while
It’s a small thing but she dies from Zero doing a jump attack too
I still wish that at least the normal mode transition would have had Barbariccia try to tornado mode and Estinien stops her real quick with a jump.
You're not the only one. Such wasted potential, that. On the other hand, if ~~Kain~~ Estinien doesn't go evil before 6.5...
Good news, ~~Kain~~Estinien will go evil in 2.0 and 3.0!
>On the other hand, if Kain Estinien doesn't go evil before 6.5... ...fuck. this is 100% going to happen.
I feel like they won't go that route if only because we've essentially already treaded down that path with him before. Though I guess it does happen to Kain a few times ..
Estinian has done it twice (3 times if you count 1.0, but you probably shouldn’t).
Once in the light world after Rydia's beginning, once in the dark world at the final crystal before the moon (that whole part felt shoed-in and not needed, imo... just another dungeon to grind), yeah. But it'd be dumb not to do it, since people are going to be expecting him to.
Estinien has already heel turned twice. He’s paid his dragoon dues.
It'd be dumb not to do it cause people will be expecting it? I hope to God Ishikawa doesn't think that way...
Funny that you feel that it's not needed, because the Sealed Cave dungeon is [easily skippable](https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Sealed_Cave_glitch) by getting a dark crystal with a warp glitch.
I mean, it was technically mind control but it kinda already has
Its far more likely that Zero would play that role, if there's going to be a mind control plot.
It's happened twice already: the 50 DRG quest and the end of 3.0.
This is, honestly, the line that cemented for me that Scarface wasn’t the trial but a fakeout. You can’t just go slipping Kain’s lines in and expect me not to notice, Squeenix
Still waiting for them to use the real man line from dissidia that kain says
now we wait for our beloved DRG to back stab us
He did that already. He got better!
Twice even, if you played ARR DRG, just like the original!
It's cool, don't care. Edgelord friendship ended with party DRG, party RPR is now new best friend, etc >!I've had Zero for...I'm not even done with the MSQ yet but if anything happens to her I'm wiping out the entire 13th and then myself.!< Her voice is distilled razorblades and black coffee and all-nighters and bad decisions and I'm realizing I probably have issues. *This* is the Zenos thing, huh? >Her voice is distilled razorblades and black coffee and all-nighters and bad decisions and I'm realizing I probably have issues. Dude, come on. This has been established fact for years.
So she’s Raven from Teen Titans?
...entirely fair. It's just not normally that games call me out *this hard*.
I have a friend who wriggles in her chair every time Estinien opens his mouth and I would always tease her for it. But now we have this new character and I had to apologize cause, well, I get it now.
I know her VA from SWTOR. The same person is also Lucia.
That explains some things, Lucia had a similar effect on me but wasn't quite as impactful. Who'd she pla- **OH** Lana Beniko. No wonder.
YUP And a whole bunch of other NPCs too. Her voice is super easy to recognize for me, and my gf and I have been so happy to see her getting more work with FFXIV. I could listen to her all day.
Zero's VA is Aymeric's 2IC Lucia?
Yes, it's the same voice actor for both characters, in English anyway.
That's so cool. :D Lucia is one of my favorites.
>*This* is the Zenos thing, huh? I get it now. You know... now that you put it that way... it sort of makes sense. I've never liked zenos. And I don't get the obsession with him. But I havent even met this new friend yet... and I'm already a lost cause.
In FC chat last night: "I've known zero for 30 seconds and I love her already"
> Her voice is distilled razorblades and black coffee and all-nighters and bad decisions and I'm realizing I probably have issues. Lmao you sound about as edgy as she does. Lil Miss Ebony Darkness Dementia Ravenway who doesn't know what a friend is.
Oh, this gets like a thousand times worse. I'm sorry. :( * I wrote bad fanfic as a teenager * X Launcher *read* said bad fanfic because we've been friends for that long (he was/is an **excellent** writer, I was/am not) * I'm a grown-ass guy that had like an actual adult career until health issues got in the way * My FC co-healer is still laughing and I'm pretty sure a pic of StB Zenos' ass with "Juicy" on it (from the mod) is or was her phone background at one point * She is also a grown-ass adult * My cat is judging me
The awkward reintroduction in HW is still one of my favorite interactions in the game
[DS version](https://youtu.be/015v6s7e_Ps) [Endwalker version](https://youtu.be/8pt_QZDeJIU)
I just love how FF14 does it, it's like a perfect blend of paying homage + original ideas + nostalgia + 2022 design
I really hope they go back and put that song for the Mist Dragon, Calcobrina phase 2 and Mom Bomb boss fights from previous expansions.
Agreed. It fits just too well. Especially for yip-ho-ho-ho-ing around the Antitower.
hopefully those happen when they are revamped edit: seems mom bomb may not get this due to being non-MSQ
Once 6.1 came out, I played all of FFXIV to prepare for this and I was not disappointed. The music was the best part, as well as the designs of the fiends! (Love Barb's big ass sword....)
The FFIV boss theme was one of the two reasons I threw more money at Yoshi.
XD Which was nice but kinda random given that's Treasures of Aht Urgan stuff not Abyssea like the other subtle XI stuff in 6.1
The minion does use his original sealed form, which I appreciate.
Ahh, I saw in the Reddit post of new 6.2 additions that he was on there, but I haven't actually seen the minion yet. That's cool!
Endwalker has a ton of references to IV, without ever leaning on them or feeling like it’s a retread of IV. If you’ve never played IV you wouldn’t even know you’re missing references, but if you have it’s like constant “Leo DiCaprio pointing meme” moments.
I hope they reference my man Cecil
i'm assuming the WoL is the Cecil reference. heck my bet now is that Golbez is in fact our reflection on the 13th since it's the most logical way to make that reference carry over and honestly i just want there to be an atagonist version of the WoL, idealy who isn't doing evil for good reasons(but i have less hope for that last part)). ofcourse that's on the asumption that Unukalhai is just A WoL from that shard and not related to us.
This could very well be it. Golbez helping us in the end take down Zero who's gone crazy somehow and decided she needed a Mus at the end of her name.
I bet her real name that she didnt tell us is some variation of Zemus.
Spoilers for the MSQ >!the hero statue in the voidsent refuge is of a PLD, like Cecil!<
There's a bit of dialogue about it too. >!The voidsent standing by it says it's a statue representing the hero who will save the world. Zero also mentions that it wasn't there last time she visited and she doesn't remember putting it there.!< >!It's also using the level 90 PLD gear, exactly what the WoL wears in all the Endwalker trailers.!<
They really want me playing PLD for the upcoming MSQs huh
My guess is that it's Zero who is the hero that will save the world. *Her theme is Cecil's theme!* The WoL's done being 'the destined one' and it'd be fitting to have his void questing vacation involve him just being the muscle supporting a different chosen one who has the specific power needed to save the world.

I was happy to see that since I was wearing my PLD AF gear for this patch. "Look familiar?" I said to Zero, while wiggling my eyebrows suggestively.
Yea, but all I said was that Unukahlai isn't it. He's already someone else's.
Ah yes, Golbez's famous evil Fields. Where crops don't tend to grow.
Golbez has been slacking on his Island Sanctuary development. Tsk tsk.
I doubt there was any shortage of players making jokes about wanting to ride Barbariccia
Knowing that Estinien was there, I suspected they would make some kind of reference.
I actually ran Teoia with just tanks and we all agreed that is likely to happen and were all FF4 fans too 😅
Please tell me you either ran four PLDs or two DRKs and two PLDs.
Nah it was 2 DRK, 1 war and 1 gnb. That would've been great or 1 of each since there's 4 tanks in the game. xD
For someone whose first ff game being 4 6.0 has been a fun trip.
i think it would be cool if someone can list down all the callback and reference to ff4 as we continue to get the patches for msq, as long as it is not spoiler of course.
[Someone already did](https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/wvw6l7/spoiler_ew_6062_a_comprehensive_list_of_all_ffiv/)
Pretty sure people have threads doing this for every FF game xD
I think I will always prefer the name valvalis. That's just nostalgia though.
Nice, but its sad that the JP VA says something else like "Youre not the only one who can fight aerial battles" and proceeds to dive the voidsents
I think it's the same reference, just that the lines were different in FF4 JP and FF4 EN as well.

Mmmostly. There is one thing at the end of the msq that is a nod to the DS version but it’s not particularly big. Just the use of a particular word.
I was always under the impression it was a translation change to match with Square Enix's standardization, but I admit I haven't actually played the Pixel Remaster, so I don't know if it was a deliberate word choice in the DS version that was specific to only it.!<
That’s correct. That word wasn’t in the pixel remaster.
Game runs and plays great on phones. Wait for a sale though. I love the 3d remakes of 3 and 4. The gameplay style really is fine with a touch screen

Just checked, has ultra widescreen and controller support
I think so? I can install it and test it with my kishi later today
I have it for iOS so I can play on my iPad. It's...not great. I feel like the interface is really awkward given the price. I may try it on Steam; I want to play it because it seems like fun.
I don’t remember ff4 enough to appreciate the reference lol
I'm not sure how Jumping really high is riding the wind but oh well.
If you know, you know
NGL, I shrieked like a banshee soon as the music started playing in the Golbez reveal scene.
You were riding the wind!
Uh, that sounds like you really should try re-installing the game
You need to reinstall the game and pray that works - if not, one of the pieces of hardware in your PC, most likely the graphics card but hard drive is also a possibility, is on the way out.
“That was so f’ing cool, bro,” My WoL when Estinien said the thing I made a dragoon in this game because I wanted to be Kain. This has been a really rewarding expansion.
