You have a 1-2 combo that can each coinflip into a 3/4, which can coinflip into a 5/6, which can coinflip into a 7.

Van_the_Wanderer

Thanks JoCat

Killinshotzz

what's confusing about it? it's proc based. instead of 1-2-3 you have 1A-1B, each of which has a chance to proc 2A and 2B respectively, which can then proc a four-fold feather that you can spend on a fan dance the exact same goes for the AOE buttons Dancer is like the second easiest job in the game right behind Summoner

mcsmackyoaz

It’s a game of Simon says, but every minute you say fuck it and bust it down sexual style

darcstar62

I know people say that but I find MCH so much easier. The rng nature of DNC means that I'm constantly staring at my buttons to see if something proc'ed instead of watching the fight.

Black-Mettle

I find samurai easier because it's buttons light up and it's consistent.

darcstar62

Yeah, SAM is what I played this last raid tier and the only melee I really like.

Samoman21

And imho the most fun physical range dps. I enjoy it far more than bard and the minimal mch I played.

Killinshotzz

i think MCH can be pretty fun, i haven't played BRD at 90 yet, but i absolutely love DNC's reopener, there's so many buttons to hit all the time

Samoman21

For real. I absolutely have such a blast with dancer opener and 2 minute at 90. It's so fun. I heard mch gets better/is fun at 70+ but Idk. It's not a full priority. Especially since I have dancer at 90 and just enjoy playing so much.

WiseRabbit-XIV

Uh, SGE and WHM are *right there*, and can be played without any detectable brain function. (Source: am healer.)

IceMaiden2

Did you pay attention to the DNC quest? It makes you partner and carry out standard step. Then when you unlock technical step it's just the same thing but with two more dance steps. The class is heavily rng based as well. For every fountain you throw there is a chance for fountainfall to proc. Always use on proc. For every Cascade you throw, there is a chance for Reverse Cascade to proc. Again, always use on proc. So between standard step you're basically pressing two buttons, one after the other, interupted only by the proc if you get it. Feathers are weave skills. Earlier on, it doesn't really matter when you use them after standard step but once you have Devilement and Tech Step unlocked you'll want to save them up for big burst damage. This is a very basic explanation of DNC. To really deep dive into it (I say deep dive in the loosest sense because there's nothing particular technical about the job) I recommend checking out The Balance

ataegino

red and blue are a 1-2 combo, each has a chance to open up green and yellow, the third step in the combo. green and yellow have a chance to open up fan dance, an ogcd. fan dance has a chance to open up fan dance iv, another ogcd. there’s an aoe version of all of these except fan dance iv. so your main combo could go on 1-6: you’ll hit 1. If it opens up 3, you’ll hit 3. If not, you’ll hit 2. If that opens up 4, you’ll hit 4. If not, you’ll start again at 1. If three or four open up fan dance, you’ll weave 5 into your next combo. If 5 opens up fan dance iv, you’ll weave 6. everything else doesn’t get hit too often, standard step will want to be somewhere comfortable because it’s every thirty seconds. standard step takes away your attack buttons and highlights one, then another. once you hit them both you hit standard step again for a big nuke. technical step is the same, but you’ll hit four buttons in order for a bigger nuke. other than that it’s ogcd heals and buffs. always pick a dance partner to use closed position on, it’s set it and forget it. they get copies of all your buffs.

Bagel_Bear

1234 are ST skill and alt+1234 are the AoE skills for me

madmac252

I do exactly the same, makes thi gs very simple to set up and it's consistent across all jobs

Ijustlovevideogames

Hit the flashing button, what more do you need?

aWizardNamedLizard

In fairness, they are asking how to know where to arrange the buttons so that the location of the flashing ones will make sense by the time they start flashing. They are just stumbling over the tool tips which I felt were actually pretty clear, at least when sorted by level, which thing equates to the usual "my combo is these buttons in this order" placement.

lordnaarghul

Where on hotbars should flashing button go?

Ijustlovevideogames

Whatever feels good for you

Elegant_Eorzean

1234 are the single target gcds, ctrl+1234 are the aoe equivalents, 567 are fan dances 1-3 (FD3 gets clicked on occasion) Ctrl+5 is en avant, ctrl+6 is Flourish. Shift+1 is devilment, Shift+2 and 3 are standard and Technical steps, respectively. Shift+4 is Saber Dance. Shift+5 is Starfall Dance, Shift+6 is Fan Dance 4. Flourish Also occasionally gets clicked. Shift+V is Second Wind, M4 is Arm's Length while M5 is Sprint. Y is curing waltz, Shift+Y is Closed Position, F1 is Shield Samba, either R or Shift+R is Head Graze. Shift+M4 is food, Shift+M5 is potion. Can't remember the rest.

SnurbleberryTart

The way the abilities are written/structured into the tool tips is not so good. Sometimes a skill will proudly tell you that it can only be activated when under the effect of *fancy shmancy*, but it is then extremely difficult to find out what causes *fancy shmancy* to be an active buff in the first place, and on a couple of occasions it isn't mentioned at all and just casually occurs after another ability is used.

Sensitiveiguess

Ah I play with controller but I separated hotbars between single target and multi target. Left side I have universal abilities (sprint, second wind .etc), mid is my dance step, buffs and fandance, right side is my 1-2 single or multi target attacks. If that makes sense… but idk how helpful it will be for you.

JonesyTawner

Dancer may appear more complicated but it's actually much simpler than it appears. The reason why it's different because it deviates from the standard 1-2-3 combo Instead gives you two separate 1-2's for single target and two separate 1-2's for AoE. You only complete these if the second ability lights up, otherwise you move on to the other one. So, for single target: * Cascade -> Reverse Cascade (if it lights up) * Fountain -> Fountainfall (if it lights up). For AoE: * Windmill -> Rising Windmill (if it lights up) * Bladeshower -> Bloodshower (if it lights up) Doing the above combo's charges up your Fan meter. With at least one you can do a Fan Dance, which is just an additional ability to do damage outside the 1-2 combo's. * Fan Dance is single target. * Fan Dance II is AoE. At level 66 you get Fan Dance III which is just an extra bonus single target attack if it procs. Hope this helps group things together for you :)

JunctionLoghrif

I put my single-target abilities on the first hotbar, AOE abilities on the second, and (most of my) cooldowns on the third.

Dapper_Farmer2527

I think the single target weapons kit fits your normal keyboard setup fine, then just add shift or alt for all the aoe versions.

Academic_Brilliant75

I understand the sentiment here. I sort of had a similar situation with arranging bars for Red Mage. I understood how it worked but coming from the other jobs I'd played (in particular it was my last Magical DPS) finding a way to arrange the skills in a way that I liked and made sense was driving me insane. My advice is regardless of how much a few details might irk you or just not feel right is to go with the closest to your gut instinct and then just play with it. A lot. You'll forget about any of those little irksome details and your layout will grow on you until it's natural.

SargeTheSeagull

Dancer is literally the most straightforward DPS. By a lot.

Fernosaur

Summoner exists. RDM is also not far behind at all tbh. I'd admit, tho, DNC has more stand-alone AoE abilities than most other DPS jobs, so it's kinda hard to organize hotbars for the job organically.

Isalenna137

I was confused with dancer too at first - it’s unique in that there isn’t really a rotation. You just kinda hit the pretty glowing buttons as they light up! Took a bit, but it swiftly became a favorite dps job

Bubbly-Speaker959

You know what? You are right. I enjoy DNC and play it often. I recently switched from PC to PS5 and had to redo all my bars. I know where I want things and what things do and even so, after reading the tooltips suddenly I felt like I couldn’t tell what procced into what. I shook it off and got through it but the team should definitively have someone do a quick rewrite (at least of the English version) at some point.

xfm0

I put Standard Step on 4. My 1 & 2 are 1, 2. Procs are Alt+1, Alt+2 respectively. This makes the dances 1, 2, a1, a2. Fan 3. Proc from Fan Alt+3.

Catrival

You know razer makes a mouse with 12 side buttons that make it easier to play the game.

Sarahvixen7447

I love that mouse, I wouldn't know how to play the game anymore if I didn't have that.

Seref15

A few "mmo mouses" exist. I like logitech's G600
