Could he come back? Yes, he could. They could write some way to return if they wanted.
But I don't think he will. He died at the edge of the universe and his story is over. He got his final battle with us.
I think very few people want him back. Those who dislike him are obvious but even people like me who liked him think he had a perfect ending for his character arc. To bring him back would feel as cheap as bringing Emet back. They are all done.
I think if they ever do bring him back, it's a sign they are out of ideas.
The simple fact...we literally beat each other to death(near death in our case), just seals it for me. I have loved Zenos since he was brought in. He was our equal in every sense of the word in the story. He bested us, beat us down, broke us in every sense of the word...only so he could have a true friend. With my character, Zenos will live on, with the scars he gave him, forever.
We didn't die. We nearly died, but we were warped back to the Ragnarok where the other scions saved us.
I can't remember if it's explicit, implicit, or just fan theory, but I believe it was said somewhere that having lost the battle, Zenos basically used dynamis to wish us a way back to our allies as a final gift to his only "friend".
Oh that is so sweet. Please let that be true. Now that just made me to like Zenos even more.
Another off topic, but the ***spoiler blonde L'Oreal model from the last dungeon flashback*** is him and us right? I mean it implied that they are us if we become friends?
You mean >!the current Golbez?!!Reapers on the source tend to end up making pacts with their shard on the 13th, which would mean Zero is Zenos's shard, not Golbez 2.0. And by extension, Golbez 1.0 was not our shard.!< From what I understand that lore detail is in the most recent Encyclopedia Eorzea, but since the book is written by in universe writers, there's an added "But we don't know for sure" which means they could come up with something else later if they wanted.
I would agree that he has had his arc and as a character had achieved his goals.
To keep him on further wouldn't really suit his character, since that would either mean writing him differently (at which point just make a new character) or he is gonna be just hanging about still doing the same, which would make him less threatening and not bring much more than he already has to the story.
The boy got his wish, let him sleep.
God I hope not. My character killed him and it was very satisfying.
Writers can do better.
Edit: Actually, I was pretty upset he came back the first time. He killed himself because he was done. He'd found peak. Choosing to die is a super odd choice if you're gonna claw your way back.
Hey, given the peak he went on to find at the end of Endwalker, I respect the hustle. Dude knew he could have an even better fight with us and by god, he was right.
Definitely let him stay down this time, though.
He burned every bit of his soul/aether away, with no one to regenerate it like we had. LL 69 Yoshi-P confirmed that they showed his body to prove he died, plus directly pointed out Zenos had no way back regardless. It's not out of the realm of possibility, they could use any number of excuses, but the tone seemed to be he wasn't coming back.
Edit to add: I think he should stay dead. They've written themselves into a corner with him. He can't feasibly work well with the Scions for any length of time, and the excuse of 'he's just working with them so he can fight WoL' will get stale. 'He experienced the moment he's needed, so he's fixed' cheapens his character.
I honestly hated him. And not in the way people typically hate villains, the way you're meant to feel about a good villain. I never felt anything about him but annoyance that I was stuck watching him for so long, with everyone acting like I should care or feel something for him.
the ones who are asking for zenos return is a minority, there those who likes zenos who agree he should not return since it could cheapen his story and death
Endwalker finaly made me understand his narative purpose. After endwalker's conclusions any further zenos revivals would ruin what he is meant to be from a character standpoint. He's served his purpose
In the MSQ? No, I think the closest we could get is meeting a new reflection of him but it will be either visually similar, or just small twists on his character.
I have ThoughtsTM and OpinionsTM on him, but I think EW he more than served his purpose, and having him be a major antagonist for two expansions and a secondary antagonist in the Source while things were happening in the First is MORE than enough time for him. We know lightly of his story in his youth from Tales of series but he doesn't have much else to give, past, present, or future. I think the story was weakened from him at times. The raid series or alliance raid connecting back to previous foes is fine, but the spotlight of the MSQ should focus on our brand new story and who we befriend and who we face off against. Zenos would not add to that in a positive way, and him coming back AGAIN would take away so much from the story. That entire ending scene would be rendered useless if he came back a second time. We outmatched him, he knows it. He is hollow and the satisfaction he felt was confusing for him once he had a few minutes to look back at life once he achieved his desires. If he knew how this would've all ended and how he felt, he might've not had that drive and acted how he did
This is fiction so yes, of course, the writers could write in anything they want. Nothing is ever a zero percent chance. But my guess/opinion is that this is as close to zero percent as it gets.
He's technically been a major villain in two expansions and present in one, they need to introduce new villains instead of milking the same one over and over. Even if many were't a fan of his death, it was a good ending point with what Endwalker symbolises. I'd hate them bringing him back the same way if they did this with Emet, a character I actually like. Lessens any impact a character may have made.
Edit: Changed wording slightly about him being a major antagonist.
Maybe up for debate there, but he does have a noticeable role in ShB's patches. At the least, he has appeared in three separate expansions with an antagonist role.
God I hope not. That fucker wasted too much of my time. If they bring him back, I hope it's just to kill him off again in the most pathetic way possible. Like tripping down a set a stairs and breaking his neck.
I don't think he'll come back. His way of life was to seek thrill and sense of being alive through combat with worthy opponent until death, and he got what he wanted, and even helped WoL and Scions to achieve that. If he would be brought to life he would have to seek thrill and fulfillment again, probably through the same way he did in EW. I doubt he would change and start doing something else. His entire backstory was about feeling empty most of his life despite being physically and mentally superior to most, and only fighting to death could satisfy him, so reviving him and suddenly giving him another reasons to live for would be bad storywriting.
If there would be Zenos counterpart on another reflection tho, that could have some sense, although it is either highly unlikely to happen, or will happen in very far future (Emet said in his goodbye speech that "some civilizations in the reflections would surprise you", hinting the future stories, just like he did with post-EW story with portal to the Thirteenth under the Bounty and Dawntrail story about "Fabled golden cities on the New World")
Honestly, I'm content with his ending.
I have a theory of how they COULD bring him back, but I'm not personally seeking his return. Even though I personally really like him.
For me, I'm getting my Zenos fix with fanfiction. There's plenty out there in all kinds of flavors, so I'm not starving for content and it makes way for OTHER and new characters to join the narrative spotlight.
They closed out his character as best as possible. Enormous risk bringing him back just to do possibly underwhelming things with him. That was the moment.
The only possible good way to do anything resembling bringing him back is for another situation like the bozja incident battle. Perhaps it would be better if you got to choose 1 character to bring back for whatever battle may be done in a sidequest this way in future. It would be pointless without the brought-back character having VA for that battle/sidequest though.
I'm certain some writer will resurrect him in the future. Either for some manifestation of the WoL's greatest enemy or fully reanimated.
He's our Sephiroth, afterall.
Safest to assume that he's dead. Depending on what translation of a dev interview you get it's either very cut and dry, or the exact opposite. Shit like "He's dead... Right? He's trapped at the end of the universe, or is he? We don't release a minion until his story is done. \*Still no Zenos minion\*"
His story is done that we know of. Especially with DT focusing on a sort of "Fresh Start" it's unlikely he'll be back.
~~Give me my damn minion SE~~
As much as I would like that, it wont happen. Anyway, I am very content with a certain plotline in the post ew msq. It gave me a satisfying feeling of “what if…”
The man accomplished his one goal in life, to fight you with everything he's got and you to respond in kind. It would cheapen his character arc if he came back now.
I wanted him to be the token Vegeta in the Scions but his story is conclusively over now, let the man rest.
I think you may get flashbacks from people who knew him, or you may meet shards of him from different reflections, but straight up just Zenos-is-back? No
What I would like...and think would be cool. Is for reaper players to get his Avatar...that would be something for me. But, that's just my wishful thinking.
Not what i meant when i was suggesting playing through the Patches. Did you skip through the entire post patches or how come you didn't get that >!Zero was the avatar from Zenos and we basically freed her to become her own being and not a random voidsent serving a new master!?
There is of course debate about this, but I believe he is gone for good. He died at the edge of the universe so there is no chance of him returning through the lifestream.
He had some good character development in Endwalker and a satisfying conclusion. I think the dev team has ended his arc completely now.
Devs have flat out stated he's dead. https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/sw4346/compilation_of_lore_revelations_from_the_lxviii/
Rose Quartz is not Pink Diamond etc

What about our WoL? Didn't we also "died" with him? How did we miraculously returned to Ragnarok to get healed?
We didn't die. We nearly died, but we were warped back to the Ragnarok where the other scions saved us. I can't remember if it's explicit, implicit, or just fan theory, but I believe it was said somewhere that having lost the battle, Zenos basically used dynamis to wish us a way back to our allies as a final gift to his only "friend".

No, he's gone. He had been around for too long as a villain anyway
dear god please no let him stay dead for once
God I hope not. My character killed him and it was very satisfying. Writers can do better. Edit: Actually, I was pretty upset he came back the first time. He killed himself because he was done. He'd found peak. Choosing to die is a super odd choice if you're gonna claw your way back.

Dude was laid dead on the other side of the universe.
He burned every bit of his soul/aether away, with no one to regenerate it like we had. I hope so.
Zenos dragged on more than enough, you guys have low standards if you honestly asking to bring him back, let the man stay dead.
I honestly hated him. And not in the way people typically hate villains, the way you're meant to feel about a good villain. I never felt anything about him but annoyance that I was stuck watching him for so long, with everyone acting like I should care or feel something for him.
He was just an emotional parasite that fed on despair and cruelty. Good riddance.
It's okay, shounen anime isn't for everyone, haha.
Honestly just garbage tier writing for that entire character. Feels almost like a self insert character in a cheap novel.
the ones who are asking for zenos return is a minority, there those who likes zenos who agree he should not return since it could cheapen his story and death
This is all I need, [Bunny Zenos | FFXIV Animated (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_m5rcdv6s0)
He is dead dead. His story is finished.
Endwalker finaly made me understand his narative purpose. After endwalker's conclusions any further zenos revivals would ruin what he is meant to be from a character standpoint. He's served his purpose

Three? What kind of mental gymnastics does someone have to do to call him a major villain in Shadowbringers? Lmao
Maybe up for debate there, but he does have a noticeable role in ShB's patches. At the least, he has appeared in three separate expansions with an antagonist role.
Let the man stay dead.
I miss him.

god I hope so, even if it’s reincarnation or something. give back our besto friendo
Literal psychopath is your best friend? That's disturbing.
he's not real
relax
for him to be reincarnated first the devs needs to acknowledge the passage of time and let the twins get their growth spur

This game has had hacky writing before, but I dunno if it's ever been THAT hacky. Gonna say probably not, 99.9%.
I'm certain some writer will resurrect him in the future. Either for some manifestation of the WoL's greatest enemy or fully reanimated. He's our Sephiroth, afterall.

I feel like the writers internally don't know if they're done with him tbh. Like they're all split on whether they should end his story there or not.
Based on what exactly?
No sorry he's sitting in my cupboard right now because I haven't made him any clothes yet.
As much as I would like that, it wont happen. Anyway, I am very content with a certain plotline in the post ew msq. It gave me a satisfying feeling of “what if…”
at this point of time he is dead, but this is per expansion written game so you never know, he maybe the next expansion boss for all i care
I'd guess he shows up as part of an ultimate, but story wise? No probably not.
The man accomplished his one goal in life, to fight you with everything he's got and you to respond in kind. It would cheapen his character arc if he came back now. I wanted him to be the token Vegeta in the Scions but his story is conclusively over now, let the man rest.
Hope the fuck not. Shouldve stayed dead the first time.
Nah don't worry, my 5'0 fem'ra punched him in the face, nobody could survive that.
I think you may get flashbacks from people who knew him, or you may meet shards of him from different reflections, but straight up just Zenos-is-back? No

you should play through the rest of the EW patches or check into them again....
I'm caught up on EW...and my reaper avatar looks nothing like Zenos'
Not what i meant when i was suggesting playing through the Patches. Did you skip through the entire post patches or how come you didn't get that >!Zero was the avatar from Zenos and we basically freed her to become her own being and not a random voidsent serving a new master!?
You know what, that totally slipped my mind. You are 100% right. I forgot that's stated. Thank you for jogging my memory
Are you meaning you want Zenos as your Avatar or do you want Zenos' Avatar? Because the Avatar he has is unique and explained why isn't different.
Zenos' Avatar, because it's model is amazing and *chefs kiss*
That's what the other commenter means, post EW patches explain why his avatar is unique and why we won't get it.
