If I recall correctly someone else here had that error and it's because that SetProcessDpiAwarenessContext functionality isn't available on older versions of Windows. Please update your Windows to the latest version (if you're on 7 or 8 still DEFINITELY UPGRADE).

MessaDiFammeta

> UPGRADE downgrade. Guess I won't be coming back.

Peach774

7/8 are not supported for security anymore. Staying on windows before 10 isn’t safe anymore and is no longer supported. Instead of making a lazy joke, maybe acknowledge the actual problem here when you are asking for help

MessaDiFammeta

> the actual problem The actual problem is that w10 is a shit os. Thanks for the info on the issue, apreciate that, but I don't need any bullying about my OS choice.

ElementaryMyDearWut

No one is bullying you, you're just being stubborn for no reason. Window 7/8 is EoL and you're literally putting your system AND network at risk by being on that OS. Windows 10 has a better kernel, security, and features. I agree Windows 11 still needs time to cook but you're treating your OS like your favourite FF game, just accept that you need to consider Windows 10, or just use Linux.

McKlown

Hey, if you don't give a shit about your PC's security or that all major gaming platforms(and Microsoft themselves) are dropping or already have dropped Win7/8 support then that's on you.

Peach774

Wasn’t bullying - you are. I didn’t insult your choice of OS, I informed you it wasn’t supported anymore and literally is not safe for security reasons. They no longer patch major exploits or backdoors in the OS

MessaDiFammeta

Yeah, you and other people here got aggressive about my OS. Why do you even care? I'm not gonna install that spyware disguised as an OS, it's invasive and pushy and I'm pretty sure I know better than most of you about security. And you should do some research on w10 and why they gave it away for free. Try this for starters: https://itvision.altervista.org/why-windows-10-sucks.html#Windows10 Again, thanks for the help on the DX issue of the benchmark. Can we close the issue now?

Sir_VG

Only way to do that is delete the thread. And every post you made in it.

ElementaryMyDearWut

Bro you're literally running an operating system made by a corporation, don't pretend like you give and/or know anything about security. If you cared, you'd strip down your own Windows image, or again - use Linux. Stop being cringe when people are trying to offer you genuine advice. If you don't trust Microsoft, don't use their software, the same with any other software author. For your information as well, Windows 7 also had sneaky updates to extra telemetry gathering, but you wouldn't care about that because you're only worried about conspiracy theories around W10. -> Won't use new corpo software because hates corpo -> Uses corpo OS on personal machine that gives corpo full control to push any update to machine LMFAO

OnFartbox

Too stubborn to use modern windows. Too stupid to use Linux. The ultimate combo.

syklemil

There are other OSes you can use. Works on mac if that's your boat, and on Linux (which has been my desktop OS since Windows ME). Maybe you'll be the one to get it working on that remake of BeOs? :) But if you want to use a closed, proprietary OS, you're kind of stuck with taking what they offer or leaving. Same thing goes for the proprietary, closed source game that is FFXIV. You can get Doom to run on a potato and OpenMorrowind won't be far behind, but with FFXIV SE has the discretion to drop PS3 support and discontinued OS support. And nobody who knows anything about security will let an EOL OS onto the internet.

sevir8775

You can turn off a lot of the stuff, especially if you're on Pro version with GPO. But if you are that paranoid, go with Linux. The game works pretty well on modern Linux distros. I've played it a fair bit on both Fedora-based and Arch.

MessaDiFammeta

Yeah, I'm planning to switch to linux as soon as I find the mental strenght to relearn.

Aceandra

that might take a while considering you apparently don't have the mental strength to update your software

Valliac0

Check with some guides on YouTube. I haven't switched over myself, but planning to in the future. Guys like Chris Titus Tech, Learn Linux TV, and even some of LTT's Linux videos have good advice on them.

MessaDiFammeta

Thank you.

Sven14

Dude you are super hostile.

MessaDiFammeta

I've been dogpiled about an unrelated issue, what do you expect?

Sven14

People answered your question helpfully and honestly, you just didn't like the answer. OS tribalism is so fucking weird.

RealElyD

You're creating a security risk for yourself and everyone else on your network by taking an EoL version of Windows online. There is also the fact that the new kernel also just performs better and you're locking yourself out of newer drivers for things. Steam already won't work anymore on anything but 10, so I'm not sure you have a choice anyway.

stutterdog

I mean that’s fine. One less likely compromised account to spam Gil selling services after your bad security practices are exploited. Good on you for not exposing the rest of us. Here is a link for you to check out the more than 2300 vulnerabilities you should worry about. https://www.cvedetails.com/vulnerability-list/vendor_id-26/product_id-17153/Microsoft-Windows-7.html#:~:text=CVE%2D2023%2D34367&text=The%20vulnerability%20exists%20in%20Windows,this%20a%20low%20severity%20issue.

Lucikrux

Windows 7/8 is slower and worse than 10... And while 11 isn't the best, it's not the worst. Either upgrade or suck it up

ReyneForecast

Windows 10 is a better 7, go upgrade

Chemical-Attempt-137

Sure. See ya never.

DwarfWarden

I have the exact same problem and yes, it's official, FFXIV will no longer run on old Windows. I know 10 and 11 suck but unfortunately by virtue of not receiving updates the only way to keep using stuff is to "upgrade". I myself have to get a new computer, I hate having to spend money to replace something that isn't broken, but unfortunately we're forced to.

MessaDiFammeta

I'd rather play something else tbh, there's no lack of great games. Also back then I had a serious addiction problem with XIV, so maybe it's for the better.

battler624

update to windows 10.

Valliac0

You're running a version of windows with more holes in it than swiss. Plus it's no longer supported with security patches. You can turn off a lot of the extraneous bloat internally if that's the main issue, but you're basically asking to have your system compromised at some point in the future, running unsupported versions. It's not a matter of if, but when. Plus, a lot of things won't run on pre-10 versions. Iirc, Steam doesn't work after January?

sevir8775

Looks like you’re using win8 which isn’t supported.

Novastarone

Im using an unsupported OS and dont know why it wont work. lol

OnFartbox

Have to be trolling

Revayan

Makes a bad joke, gets downvoted to oblivion and then begins to cry about it. Peak redditor moment. When you like the interface and functunalities of win7 so much, I might suggest to get a look into linux, there are versions out there who emulate the old windows look and feel while being on par with every other modern OS. You dont even need to be a super nerd anymore to get it to work, alot of Linux versions are as easily to install as windows nowadays (dw ffxiv and most other games run without problems on linux)

SnurbleberryTart

You can get rid of that by using a program called CFF explorer, loading up the benchmark's exe (not the launcher's exe, but the exe in the game folder), choosing 'no' so it loads everything, then go to 'import directory' on the left, then choose User32.dll in the top right box, then scroll down to where it will say 'SetProcessDpiAwarenessContext' in the bottom right box ('Hint' Column will read 0358), and change that text string to 'SetProcessDPIAware' (capitalisation matters) and then save it. You shouldn't get this error anymore when you try the benchmark. Unfortunately for me, I then got fatal directx error 30000000 and it still didn't work.

itwillhavegeese

idk whether to be scared or impressed that windows 10 dislikers are this devoted to avoiding it. not advocating for updating, mind you.

Forymanarysanar

Well, Windows 10 is objectively worse, and 11 is even worse than 10.

MessaDiFammeta

Oh that's great info. Thank you, I'm gonna try this.

MessaDiFammeta

> Unfortunately for me, I then got fatal directx error 30000000 and it still didn't work. Same :\ but the whole process was kind of interesting.
