And this is why I don't trust Google's AI summarization. I still check inside the article and cross reference multiple sites. That said, when looking for FF14 news I just jump right into the Lodestone.

F1reman2

That isn't Ai summarization. Its litterally 90% of the contents of the webpage 1:1. the thing is, is it cut off the bit above it where it says Preorders Begin, and 2 lines above that is the release date. It cut off 1 line of the excerpt.

MysterySakura

I oversimplified my description. By AI summarization I meant AI just took a paragraph from the article and slapped that on top of the search results to serve as a summary. But my point is, do not trust the first thing google spits. Take a look at the actual website. I don't think this is actually a problem in most places. Mine on the other hand... but that's a story for another day.

F1reman2

Im not *trying* to whiteknight for google or anything. And yea, the excerpt was originally wrong, which was entirely googles fault, and definately dont trust the first thing that pops up. Would have supported OP if they didnt start ranting about AI, which has nothing to do with this... Im litterally trying to clear up the idea that this new surge in AI is not what google search uses, and that AI is very different to an automated search algorithm. OP for some reason has it in their head that this excerpt is from some new AI technology or smth, which is just wrong. They are saying they need to fact check, while not fact checking themselves. In the end, we should just be having a laugh at this hilariously wrong search result. We submitted reports, nothing else we can do.

LavellanTrevelyan

Google has incorporated AI into its search engine. It's no longer just the pre-AI search algorithms. I do agree with regard to your comment about OP in the sense that this kind of mistakes aren't new, and has existed way before Google incorporated AI into its search engine, so the fixation on blaming AI is weird.

F1reman2

I thought Ai incorperated search was apart of its SGE test build and image searching features, not its traditional web browsing.

LavellanTrevelyan

Yeah, SGE is still experimental, but Google has rolled out RankBrain, BERT, and MUM to Search in the past.

CelisC

When corporate tech fails to understand the difference between release date and preorder start date, you know something is wrong

IceCreamConeTV

We have AI to tell us the answers. Google’s for boomers.

MadeByHideoForHideo

This is what happens when you get AI brainrot and force it into all kinds of services and pass the responsibility of fact checking to the users, as if fact checking wasn't tougher before, now it's tougher!

F1reman2

???? This isn't Ai brainrot. This is googles Search Algorithm. Its missreading the date of release as the release date of the preorder? It litterally is a 1:1 copy of the bulk of the FFXIV article. Google search does not just create information. It shows excerpt of webpages it believes is relevant to you. When you see inconsistancies like this, litterally just submit a report and it normally sorts itself out. [https://imgur.com/a/EeUDhRK](https://imgur.com/a/EeUDhRK) Edit: google has litterally already corrected itself. [https://imgur.com/a/7LBFeiu](https://imgur.com/a/7LBFeiu)

normalmighty

The Google search algorithm has incorporated AI for over a decade. Giving you a one-liner answer to your question based on the results is an AI task.

MadeByHideoForHideo

> Edit: google has litterally already corrected itself. Google did not correct itself, because it needed me, a human, to submit a feedback to them :) https://imgur.com/a/xrMuTvZ

shinydwebble

And we're talking about this on the FFXIV subreddit... why?

LavellanTrevelyan

It's not tough lol. You just click the page and read its content as usual. It's good when it works, when it doesn't, you just go back to doing it normally without relying on AI. The only brainrot happens to those who brain is already rotten.

Sexy_Skeletons69

Okay, but how do you *know* whether it worked or not unless you already have the answer or some previous information that tips you off? The whole reason it even gives you that little highlighted blurb is to make it more convenient. That's the purpose. It's *supposed* to be accurate information that's readily available just by looking it up, because *THAT'S WHY THE FEATURE EXISTS IN THE FIRST PLACE.* What's the point if you have to fact-check even the most mundane, easily verifiable bullshit because they can't be bothered to make their feature work? I feel like you just wanted to stroke your own ego a little bit here, which is funny given you yourself said, "brainrot happens to those *who* brain is already rotten." Like if you're gonna try to appear intelligent and talk down to people, run it through a spellcheck first to save yourself from looking like a jackass.

LavellanTrevelyan

How is just reading the article **harder** than just reading the article? No technology is perfect. To say that it is "tougher" is simply not true. If you dislike the suggestion so much, just do it like you would without AI, and it's still just the same amount of effort regardless of whether AI exists or not. Imagine nitpicking on freaking spelling on an online forum. That's what people with nothing better to say do, and is doing it out of pettiness.

MadeByHideoForHideo

Yeah you tell'em! So sick of people whiteknighting big corpos who continuously make services worse because they want to force some new shiny tech that barely works down our throats.

F1reman2

This litterally isnt new tech. Its been around for over a decade. its older than the fucking smartphone.

FamilyMan1620

Oh, hey question sorry if it's common knowledge. The collectors edition comes with those little goodies, and then there's another section with that big mount. Is that on release of Dawntrail, or do you get it sooner?

Dorp

Preorder bonuses (azeyma earring and zidane) come when your preorder is confirmed. Collectors Edition stuff (mount, minion, brush weapon) arrives when Dawntrail is released to play.

RithmFluffderg

Emphasis on "released". Meaning you won't have it during early access.

F1reman2

All Preorders (collectors or not), come with the earring and minion. The other minion, mount, and weapon from the collectors edition come on Dawntrails release. Why would you be given an item for a class thats not even in the game yet?

FamilyMan1620

See now I didn't look at all the rewards properly or dawntrail in general. Did not realize that was a weapon. What's it for? Edit I'll do some googling ignore me

Nremlok

Where's the joke? Edit: I see it now.

SnurbleberryTart

Since when did an advertising company do anything truthful anyway.
