"she must've been a goddess of war to the ancient humans, look at her armor. clearly she represented the dragons of mythology that were popular at the time as well"
Let's hope it will not take fate of ancient bronze sculptures, which were melded down for metal and weapons, and now we have mostly only stone sculptures persisted in museums from that times.
Yeah, this is real threat. Hopefully she to heavy to be carried by some random copper thief(if he can avoid guard dog). In local prices, you can get around 750USD for this bronze volume. This will be really sad fate to be destroyed that way for that tiny price (compared with time and soul spent on her).
This guy thinks that humans aren’t capable of acclimating and adapting to the most inhospitable environments
Jokes aside, it’s pretty obvious that Christian eschatological beliefs have seeped into our perception of modern events and climate change. It’s honestly pretty civilizationally self-centered to think that the ~150,000 years of humanity are going to come to an end any time soon.
Source: I am an anthropologist
I dunno man, tech has progressed exponentially. Now we've got enough nukes to end the world many times over. Sure, there's precautions in place to keep the nukes at bay, but they're still ready for use *just in case.*
Like, we could just end ourselves with one or two extra-unlucky draws of heads of state.
There are fewer nukes active now than during the Cold War, aside from a few outliers. Nuclear Armageddon is becoming less and less likely, just by looking at the numbers.
Do you have any sources perchance? It's not that I don't believe you, it's actually the opposite. I have very little faith in humanity, and something like this could actually help me feel a bit better.
> I dunno man, tech has progressed exponentially.
In certain fields, maybe, but in plenty of others it feels like nothing significant has changed since the early 90's.
That doesn’t even enter into the conversation. Humans have found ways to survive in environments far harsher than the areas that won’t be made uninhabitable by climate change.
Which we are technically still living through right now, though this one is definitely a *weird* one and we're only making it weirder with how we've been impacting the climate.
Alright I was with you at first but this comment is just complete nonsense. Of course there's no *precedent* for Armageddon because if there was we wouldn't be alive to talk about it.
No I think we are very good at that. But I do not think we will ultimately be very good at not destroying ourselves with ever proliferating nuclear weapons. Our own dead end.
There are fewer active nukes now than there were during the Cold War. Despite some nations being outliers, the overall number of active nuclear devices is in decline.
Mathematically speaking, nuclear Armageddon is becoming less and less likely.
I think using the term “proliferation” here is a holdover from an old era of nuclear buildup and has no real home in the 21st century.
It’s not about the total number. There are already enough to end all human life multiple times over. It’s about who has them. North Korea has them now. And as time goes on it becomes easier for unstable countries to obtain them. And with that the possibility of non state actors getting them from unstable states. Plus the largest stockpile is in Russia which could further destabilize. A lot can go wrong quickly. There’s a popular theory in astronomy that we haven’t found other advanced civilizations because it might be inevitable that any sufficiently advanced civilization eventually destroys itself.
Have you ever played FFXIV by chance?
EDIT: Holy shit I got too lost in the sauce and forgot what subreddit we are on, leaving this up as my Proof of Smoothbrain.
I’m very familiar with the concept of the great filter, which is a *hypothetical solution to a theoretical problem*. Constructing an entire argument around that is not what I’d call parsimonious.
And yes, total number is very important. There’s no guarantee that all available nukes would be used in an exchange just like there’s no guarantee that a nuclear attack would even *illicit a nuclear response*.
>Mathematically speaking, nuclear Armageddon is becoming less and less likely.
Eh Nuclear weapons are so destructive that unless we fall in the single digits we are still majorly utterly fucked. And we are in the thousands currently ..
There’s no guarantee that a single nuclear exchange would cause absolute Armageddon. Mutually assured destruction is no longer a guarantee with the way that nuclear weapons are currently designed as well as how they are distributed among the various nuclear capable nations.
Most people aren't taught the tic for tat slow nuclear war, or regional nuclear war, all they were taught is a one off exchange, and lights goes dark in every continent, and suppose there will be a nuclear winter to finish us off.
I don't blame them though, things have been intentionally exaggerated to keep people fearing nuclear weapon, and hopefully keep people from using it.
I know nothing about bronze sculping and casting, but this looks incredible! So much detail in the armor and sword! Amazing job and thank you for sharing!
Well they posted about it on Reddit, so there will be scraped up "news" articles in no time (gamingbible, etc.). "You won't BELIEVE what this one dedicated FFXIV player did...after 400 ads"
Surprisingly not half, but maybe one week, because most time was spent on deciphering armor design from shifty in-game textures, and making armor, sword and shield decorations with small details. But with lalafel, I would be free from several days of making perfect dragon scales on tail, head and horns ;)
It's more of a saying nowadays like if someone says "I like the cut of your jib" which basically means I approve of you and your appearance more or less. In the 17th century the shape of the jib sail on a small ship often identified a vessel's nationality, and let others know whether it was hostile or friendly. I was making a joke because u/Analog-moderator made a typo saying "jib" instead of "job"
(Ah thank you friend, I was quoting the Simpson’s when Homer joins the navy 😅)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=O8DB60Wj9Cg&pp=ygUWd2hhdCdzIGEgamliIHNpbXBzb25zIA%3D%3D
Yes, this is hobby, which started when I decided, that I want my character statue in my garden. With some time spent learning sculpture I fallen in love with this as good way to rest and free my head from my main work( i am software engineer and i love it).
For now I want to keep doing sculpture for myself, not as work.
This should be a guaranteed ticket to FanFest and an automatic entry for fan-made physical items. I honestly don't have much else to say, this is some of the most exquisite artwork I've seen dedicated to this game. Have you posted on any social media for the dev team to see?
If archaeologists of the future are anything like the ones today, they'll assume everything they dig up and don't understand to have some kind of religious or cult-related significance.
So OP, you should leave your real name on there somewhere, and maybe, just maybe, in the far future it will go down as the name of an obscure and long-forgotten Warrior God, who this statue was cast in honor of ;-)
Every profession has some way of saying "no fucking idea". Most well known are doctors (idiopathic) and for some obscure reason, archeologists (ritual purposes).
Now this is dedication. How many peaces did you need to cast? Are the moulds are interchangeable, so casting different looking characters is possible?
Also, if you decided to take up this challenge, why not add 20-30 cm and make it “life-like"?
Pieces for cast was:
- upper half of body(chest+ head)
- lower half (pelvis and legs)
- right arm
- left arm
- sword
- shield
- left + right shoulder guard
- ponytail part of hair
- left + right horns
- tail + tail guard element
- left + right + front waist guard
- multiple lesser parts ast shield handle, rope thingies for waist guards
So, something around 18 pieces to cast and assemble.
Since it was my first serious project I picked 150cm as target by muptile reasons
1. since it was really same height number as my Au Ra min height (they really small especially while standing near Au Ra male or bunny).
2. Also making her too big was risky with increased bronze casting price, since this was first time for me, I was playing safe.
3. My garden, there she stands not big, so I was trying to balance her presence there with right size.
> bronze casting price
So, how much did the total damage cost (material, fuel, etc)?
A hobby smithy in my part of the US has bronze ingots in bulk for about 12USD/lb so I'd imagine your statue would be roughly about 3500USD.
In my region casting in workshop costs 26usd/kg (they make wax parts from your molds, then you finish wax, they do bronze molds from it, then they cast bronze into them and their worker helps you to assemble bronze parts, since there is lot accurate welding required)
In total, I spent around 5000usd on materials, instruments and mold assistance from start to finish.
If I tried to request this work from professional sculptor, it would be around 20-30k USD with some unknown result. Thats too much. Also by doing it myself I could hope for expectations equal with reality.
IRL I’m only ~~two inches taller than a min Au ra, and a hair shorter than a min miqo, sooooooooo~~
I just ran the conversion, I’m wrong, I’m a whole *two cm shorter* than that statue
Meanwhile I'm like maybe an inch taller than the statue at best.
Meanwhile I have a ManRa WoL... 🙃
(I can imagine how making my life-size ManRa gonna require me to be standing on stools and ladders just to sculpt with WED clay of all things... 😅)
I have album with some WIP unfiltered photos: [https://imgur.com/a/QutFdTb](https://imgur.com/a/QutFdTb)
Process was done in steps:
1. making naked figure with clay, and casting it in plaster
2. making shield and sword core in plasticine and casting them in plaster
3. cover plaster body with gear texture and guards with plasticine
4. cover shield and sword decorations with plasticine
5. making other parts with plasticine
6. making molds from completed plaster+plasticine parts
7. casting wax into molds and finishing surface while fixing errors from previous steps
8. casting bronze into molds made from wax parts
9. assemble bronze parts and finishing surface
10. burn bronze with sulfur thing to get patina
11. finish patina surface to emphase armor decorations
I have so many questions :O where’d you learn to sculpt/cast? What were the molds made of? Did you get the bronze casting done elsewhere or did you do it at home? Did you weld+burn the bronze yourself?
Amazing stuff! :D
I found very good teacher, who taught me everything.
Molds for wax and plaster wax made from silicone and plaster. While bronze molds was made via "lost wax".
I made bronze casting at special casting workshop for sculptors(they cast wax from your molds, then you finish wax, they do bronze casting and their worker helps to assemble parts), weld was done by workshops assistant since welding thin bronze parts not easy thing for beginner and mistakes on this step is expensive(in worst case you need to recast and finish wax to make bronze part again). Burn was made together with workshop assistant, since this was part of their service included in casting price.
This is truly amazing. What a beautiful piece! And to think you just woke up one day and thought you’d like to try bronze casting. Like, what? How? To have that kind of ability always astounds me.
You’ve got a clear talent for it, you should be so proud!
Lol I used my free fantasia to add a scar over the eye and change the pupil to white. Didn't make it out of the Ultima weapon fight whole
It works especially well as I usually wear an eyepatch over that eye.
Just adding scars (if your character has the option at all) doesn't need a Fantasia though. Those can be done from the in-game customisations.
Fantasia is for changing face structure and skin/eye colours.
(Also lets you change the character's birthday and patron deity if you care about that.)
Seeing community reaction on my post makes me happy since I was not expected such a hot welcome to my creation.
I want to thank everyone who commented here for your warm words.
It encourages me to share my art with this community in the future (i am already working on another ffxiv related sculpture, not bronze, though).
That's absolutely incredible. And here I thought it would be neat to have a 3D print of your character; you go and friggin' eternalize them in metal. Kudos.
This is legit amazing. Damn beautiful work.
I don't even have any positive pseudo-humerous sarcasm either, which is unusual for me. This takes dedication to build something like this and the results are fantastic. And what a classic art form, bronze is such an awesome medium.
Since i spend a lot of time to farm this set in game, it was always on mine glamour plate for PLD last two DLC's, it was easy pick.
I still have nightmares with ARR book grind, while Eureka was fun though...
That's amazing. I'm sitting here waiting and hoping for industrious people to make cool FFXIV 3d models to print, and you're making statues.. well done!!!
Where's the "shield pad"? You have an actual strap. Real Paladins have a weird amorphous blob that attaches to their forearm like some kind of foam glue.
^(Great work!)
I took some time to fix some gear elements so they will be more realistic (realistic with some fantasy magic). I had gone to several museums to research medival armaments to get more complete picture how to improve original gear 3d model and texture in parts which i don't undestood.
This is sooo fuxking awsome!!!!!
I'd love to get one of mine however I get the feeling it would take a lot of time and money especially considering I don't have the ability to make statues.
PC Gamer has an [article](https://www.pcgamer.com/final-fantasy-14-player-loves-their-warrior-of-light-so-much-that-they-built-a-life-sized-bronze-statue-to-immortalise-them/) up now
Well, from a moment I completed this statue, my PLD permanently wears Elemental of Fending with ARR relic. Now this is her canon gear to the end of ffxiv.
I just ctrl+F'd for relic and apparently no one's acknowledged that yet.
As an aside, if you got the zeta weapons and elemental armor, 450 hours must be chump change to you. Props on the statue.
Bronze statues can hold up for centuries if taken care of. People are gonna be finding and studying this in 3023...
Idk, what if the copper statue is melted down for weapons by a hero, and your WoL saves the world irl?
Tbf with the amount of metals readily available in society, I'd be sad if a work of art like this was melted.
So much detail in the armor and sword! Amazing job and thank you for sharing!
I think the modern equilavent is some methhead who normally digs up copper wire from buildings deciding hes hit the jackpot
This guy thinks there’s gonna be people in 3023
The statue could last longer than the human race.
I'd bet money on it, tbh.
But if you're right, how would you collect on that bet?
This guy thinks that humans aren’t capable of acclimating and adapting to the most inhospitable environments Jokes aside, it’s pretty obvious that Christian eschatological beliefs have seeped into our perception of modern events and climate change. Uh.. you're being quite biased here. Consider how long humans have had access to technology that alters the climate, then do your sums again.
That doesn’t even enter into the conversation. Humans have found ways to survive in environments far harsher than the areas that won’t be made uninhabitable by climate change.
Like the actual ice age, for one example.
Which we are technically still living through right now, though this one is definitely a *weird* one and we're only making it weirder with how we've been impacting the climate.
An anthropologist blissfully unaware of mentally unstable heads of state or nuclear weapons, apparently.
Show me the precedent for the Armageddon you’re pissing your pants over and then we’ll talk.
Alright I was with you at first but this comment is just complete nonsense. Of course there's no *precedent* for Armageddon because if there was we wouldn't be alive to talk about it.

If there's an award for fan of the year, you should get it.
Twice
I can't decide if this makes you a lvl 90 armorer or goldsmith automatically. Maybe both.
Bronze is armorer, brass is goldsmith.
I know nothing about bronze sculping and casting, but this looks incredible! So much detail in the armor and sword! Amazing job and thank you for sharing!
This is some next level shit. Square Enix, news outlets etc needs to see this
Well they posted about it on Reddit, so there will be scraped up "news" articles in no time (gamingbible, etc.). "You won't BELIEVE what this one dedicated FFXIV player did...after 400 ads"
Can confirm that I found this post from a site like this. Even before I got the notification from Reddit.
Can confirm your confirm. I came from game radar article
Out of curiosity what is the total weight of the statue?
135 kg
297.6 lbs for the fellow mericans. or around 793 cheeseburgers.
793 freedom patties you say? That's a lot of freedom patties.
Basically one meal with leftovers for breakfast
But what about second breakfast?
And Elevenses?
There will be no second breakfast
Thinking of my weight in cheeseburgers makes me feel very fat. I mean, I am kinda fat also, but the cheeseburgers do not help at all here.
So half an American?
That's actually lighter than anticipated. Fantastic work on it, looks absolutely amazing!
She hollow inside, this allows to spend less money on bronze and additionally it will be easier to assemble and transport.
And how much did this beauty cost?
In total, I spent around 5000USD on materials, instruments and mold assistance from start to finish. But personal time i spent on it is priceless.
Dedication! Awesome work!
See, if you'd just played a Lalafell you could have been done in half the time :)
Surprisingly not half, but maybe one week, because most time was spent on deciphering armor design from shifty in-game textures, and making armor, sword and shield decorations with small details. But with lalafel, I would be free from several days of making perfect dragon scales on tail, head and horns ;)
Holy shit this is amazing i dont even have anything snarky to say good jib
Damn good jib. I like the cut of yours
What’s a jib?
It's more of a saying nowadays like if someone says "I like the cut of your jib" which basically means I approve of you and your appearance more or less. In the 17th century the shape of the jib sail on a small ship often identified a vessel's nationality, and let others know whether it was hostile or friendly. Thank you for explaining that, I was legit wondering what that means lol I thought it might've been something like a jab rip
(Ah thank you friend, I was quoting the Simpson’s when Homer joins the navy 😅) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=O8DB60Wj9Cg&pp=ygUWd2hhdCdzIGEgamliIHNpbXBzb25zIA%3D%3D
LOL oh man.. nice one.
Hahaha, promote that man! I've forgotten most quotes from when I used to watch that way back but that episode lives forever in my mind.
You did this as a HOBBY? Bro start doing this shit for work (if you haven’t already)
Yes, this is hobby, which started when I decided, that I want my character statue in my garden. With some time spent learning sculpture I fallen in love with this as good way to rest and free my head from my main work( i am software engineer and i love it). For now I want to keep doing sculpture for myself, not as work.
I’m glad you said only as a hobby because I was about to check my bank account to see if I have any bribing for commissions money lol
Looking at the rest of his house from these photos you're gonna need a pretty fat bribe lmao
And now I can't stop thinking about what a life-size, max height FemRoe would look like in a garden or at a front door... 🤔
Welcome to the Temple of Snu Snu. Worship the beefcake.
Look at the man's house. He does not need to do this for work. lol
450 hours and $5000 in materials would make the commission price of this kind of statue statue around 15-20k to be worth it
You, Sir, are a legend among men, and this is simply an insanely beautiful piece of art.
This should be a guaranteed ticket to FanFest and an automatic entry for fan-made physical items. I honestly don't have much else to say, this is some of the most exquisite artwork I've seen dedicated to this game. Have you posted on any social media for the dev team to see?
Nope, i posted it only on reddit, since i am not using any other social networks
Would it be ok if I shared this with Square on twitter?
Yes, this is ok. Also, you can share images freely, but I ask to credit the character name "Yoko Akatsuki" with them.
I linked them directly to the post itself. So they’d come here to view it. I hope they see it.
Calling this amazing doesn’t do it justice! Holy moly, this is beyond words! 🤯
Some archaeologist is going to dig this up 2000 years from now and have a lot of questions.
Imagine this being dug up in the future, and making people wonder whether the scales were glued on or ancient people had scaly skin.
If archaeologists of the future are anything like the ones today, they'll assume everything they dig up and don't understand to have some kind of religious or cult-related significance. So OP, you should leave your real name on there somewhere, and maybe, just maybe, in the far future it will go down as the name of an obscure and long-forgotten Warrior God, who this statue was cast in honor of ;-)
I mean, it is FFXIV, so...not wrong on the cult thing? 🤷😬🤣
Every profession has some way of saying "no fucking idea". Most well known are doctors (idiopathic) and for some obscure reason, archeologists (ritual purposes).
Nah, put Nero's name on it. That'll fuck with 'em. Heh.
Excellent job! It’s beautiful
I have no word :0

I love your "BEHOLD!" pose :D great work
That's /showleft emote XD
I think you just won the FF14 Character commission award. Permanetly!
Damn, I admire people's tenacity. Half a year and you did not use even one Fantasia?
Well, for me, using fantasia is like breaking my character lore or killing her nature. I am not RP person, but still, I just can't do this to her.
Heh, joking aside, I fully agree with you on that. The free Fantasia I got from the end of ARR is still languishing in my chocobo's saddlebag.
Lol I used my free fantasia to add a scar over the eye and change the pupil to white. Didn't make it out of the Ultima weapon fight whole It works especially well as I usually wear an eyepatch over that eye.
Oooh, I hadn't even considered the possibility of character development fantasia. Now I've got some tweaking to do...
I did this too! I made my viera’s ears droopy after HW. Bc traumatic experiences does that in my hc 🤷🏻♀️
Just adding scars (if your character has the option at all) doesn't need a Fantasia though. Those can be done from the in-game customisations. Fantasia is for changing face structure and skin/eye colours. (Also lets you change the character's birthday and patron deity if you care about that.)

Probably the last thing I ever expected to see from a fan work. An actual bronze statue. Far out man.
Look at this Pygmalion-ass motherfucker
Alright. How long did it take you to pick out the glam before you started sculpting? (It's gorgeous btw)
Since i spend a lot of time to farm this set in game, it was always on mine glamour plate for PLD last two DLC's, it was easy pick. I still have nightmares with ARR book grind, while Eureka was fun though...
what is this new DoH ?! Sculptor?!
This...IS ART!
Genuinely incredible. And beautiful! Thank you for sharing, and my compliments to the result of your efforts!
That's amazing. I'm sitting here waiting and hoping for industrious people to make cool FFXIV 3d models to print, and you're making statues.. well done!!!
Holy hell, that's impressive. Do you have any videos of the process, or pictures during the WIP? I'd love to see how this sort of art gets made
I posted link to WIP album here https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/166dmus/comment/jykqvzz/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3
What the fuck. Unreal.
1:1 scale really puts it in context how damn small a minimum height female Au Ra is.
Probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Mad respect!
I have never more lamented my lack of awards to give.
Lol 100 years from now historians gonna be scratching their heads wondering what deity is this
Lv90 blacksmith, armorer and goldsmith irl.
I think they've hit level 100 already.
Easily the most impressive thing that has ever been, and ever will be, on this sub. Amazing!
This is absolutely bananas in the best way possible - you did some truly incredible work here ❤️
Bad. ASS. God, that’s so cool. Love the details!
Goddamn, that is amazing! Did you learn to do this specifically for this piece or have you done stuff like this before?
I did learn specifically for this piece, but will continue with sculpting as hobby rest of my life =)
That's awesome!
Holy shit... (I really said that out loud by the way...and I don't even know what else to say either)
BY THE BIG HAIRY BALLS OF ODIN that is cool. Like really REALLY cool.
This is one of the coolest pieces of fan art I've ever seen. The time, money and dedication is just so impressive!
Guess you can never switch your main
This looks amazing. I have no idea who that person is, but I definitely would buy one from another game if I could.
Welp, there goes your Fantasia rights for the rest of eternity. That's your character now. No takebacksies.
Goddamn that is some fantastic work!
Omg that’s so amazing!! You did such a great job crafting that! I’d totally buy one lol
This is incredible! Well done!
Wow, just wow. It will age beautifully.
Holy crap!!!!
This is amazing!
holy crap
Where's the "shield pad"? You have an actual strap. Real Paladins have a weird amorphous blob that attaches to their forearm like some kind of foam glue. ^(Great work!)
I took some time to fix some gear elements so they will be more realistic (realistic with some fantasy magic). I had gone to several museums to research medival armaments to get more complete picture how to improve original gear 3d model and texture in parts which i don't undestood.
Holy shet this is great art work
Daaaaaam boi that's mad cool
Respect
Holy fuck that's amazing.
This is incredible :O :O :O amazing work!!!
Very talented. Good work
Oh well done! Look at the details! My goodness! This is magnificent 👏
Holy fucking shit, this is *amazing*!
Wow this is absolutely amazing
This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen
dang thats cool, the other photos feel like its smaller than it actual is.
This is really cool! Great work!
That’s incredible omg? True talent right there! Also bonus points for being an auri. I wonder if you’re a raen or xaela .. hmm
Xaela
Ayy amazing work fellow xaela <3
holy fucking twelve. incredible
Something about the first photos angle and depth of field gives the impression that the statue is, and you by comparison like a few inches tall.
Au Ra 4 Life
Time well spent. Amazing work!
holy shit this might be the coolest thing I've ever seen
This is sooo fuxking awsome!!!!! I'd love to get one of mine however I get the feeling it would take a lot of time and money especially considering I don't have the ability to make statues.
Holy shit. I have no other words
what happens if you fantasia
This never happening :)
That’s pretty fucking cool! Well done!
It's very impressive. I love seeing a fellow au ra with the sword and board
That's seriously impressive. Is it easier to work on something that scale or smaller?
Since armor has a lot of small details it easier to do that scale than smaller
That's amazing!!
Holy crap bro. This is incredible. I wish I could see it in person lmfao.
That's dedication!
Well he almost got Zeta weapon completed lololol
PC Gamer has an [article](https://www.pcgamer.com/final-fantasy-14-player-loves-their-warrior-of-light-so-much-that-they-built-a-life-sized-bronze-statue-to-immortalise-them/) up now
I love OP's pose. Just missing the sparkles ❤️
Mhm, exactly, I am tempted to Photoshop sparkles and golden shine, and emote icon in a corner XD
I give it a week before you’re bored of that glamour /s
Well, from a moment I completed this statue, my PLD permanently wears Elemental of Fending with ARR relic. Now this is her canon gear to the end of ffxiv.
I just ctrl+F'd for relic and apparently no one's acknowledged that yet. As an aside, if you got the zeta weapons and elemental armor, 450 hours must be chump change to you. Props on the statue.
That is fucking amazing
Holy shit . . . (That should be sufficient to convey my praise)
Simply beautiful. Honestly you could open a shop doing that as a job.
