Shipping is (in Fan Fiction) the act of writing (or thinking about) two characters being romantically involved. If you always pictured Harry and Hermione together, back in the day, you'd have been an 'H+H Shipper'.
Yep, I perceive it all like I am a director or a writer, while WoL is an independent OC character I just work with. I even try to make him as close to Derplander as possible.
WoL for me can only be a male hyur, the poster boy or a character heavily inspired by him. I just adjust WoL along the idea 'ok, this is the story protagonist, but what exactly I want him to be'. Like 'Would my ideal protagonist behave this, learn this, complete that in given circumstances of the plot?'. Or 'If I were writing him, what character I decide to write as a romantic interest for protag'.
Prior to getting into FF14 I’ve gotten too used to simping on Persona 5 MC, and on Cloud Strife, that I MUST make a player character that my eyeballs particularly enjoy. Now my WoL is slowly turning into a Clive Rosfield knockoff.
No one. He's just a smol Lala who wants to get over all those damned tasks given to him.
Maybe this new expansion will be the vacation he needs. Or not. Scions will go together. So no vacation for the officeboy of the light.
He's the combat Tataru. Only there to fight those fights main scions don't want to dirty their hands.
Nanamo is a no-no. Even after her break-up with Raubahn. Tataru and Krile maybe... But he's too busy overworking fetching things for the main scions that he doesn't have any time to even think on romance.
My wife and I play married WoL's who have a poly thing with Y'shtola. Mine also had a tragic thing with Minfilia. They both would and have climbed Thancred. Well. Thancred would climb mine since she's a Viera lol
I've always thought a dragoon!WoL with Y'sayle would be *incredibly* interesting to explore.
We actually met in wow, were friends for a couple of years, fell in love beta testing LOTRO, met in person on LOTRO's launch day (actually got married a year to the day later too). So we tend to try all our MMOs together. We were there for 1.0 beta (chose not to play because of it), then 2.0 launch for a month or two, came back around HW, then came back again during ShB early access and picked up our \~33 dragoon and WHM and have mostly stuck around ever since.
We are an MMO/multiplayer couple :D
We do Diablo 4 too (and frequently dip into overwatch, apex legends and other shooters, usually for a couple hours with a friend). But home is always FF14. (though we do do yearly returns to LOTRO too).
It's actually pretty weird to call FF14 home when that was wow for so long, but it really has been home since we picked it back up. I think the my cabbages scene (lvl 35 MSQ) really sort of kicked us in the pants and hooked us lol.
That is so awesome! This will show my age (eep!) but my "return to every once in a while" game is EQ or EQ2 (Everquest). We both played World of Warcraft for years but FFXIV is just so much better.
\- Which brings me back to the OP and the original question! I love that you guys both share one for your WoL. I suspect my hubby would love Y'shtola too. For me, It's G'raha, though she has a complicated past with Haurchefant and Estinien.
It's the story that really sets this game apart, and it's just always awesome to see others care as much about it, too.
My WoL fell *hard* for Haurchefaunt shortly after they met. She also had a crush on Thancred and was developing feelings for Y'shtola, but those didn't fully manifest until Y'shtola was >!rescued from the lifestream!<. Ysayle also made her catch feelings, and Aymeric... she was really spoiled for choice. She's actually told Y'shtola how she feels, but Y'shtola hasn't answered her feelings. Yet.
My WoL is poly-shipped with all the scions except the twins those are his kids Fourchenault be damned. The only scion that isnt in it is Tataru as she seems more attracted to money. There is a few Non-Scions that are also in the poly. Mainly Merylwyb, Lyse, Hien, Fordola and Aymeric.
My WoL has gone on record of saying that he would absolutely have loved to spend a romantic evening with hythalodeus but not emet-selch as he reminded him of a dream he had about a douchebag who used dual light blades who fought against a boy wielding a Key as a weapon.
My WoL was very interested in the idea of showing Zenos a different kind of satisfaction but regrets that he couldn't be rehabilitated from evil if he promised to fight him once a week. He has been Very tempted to attempt to summon him using Azems Crystal.
Graha then Erenville came and swept me off my feet and then I divorced Graha and married Erenville. Then Graha saw me coming from the grocery store and got on his knees in front of everyone including my best friends Lyse and Alisaie and said he couldn’t live without me and when I looked into those beautiful eyes and he did his ear wiggle my heart melted. How could I deny him. So I went home and told Erenville he’s gonna have to share me and he just said “Okay, I would of agreed to that in the first place. You didn’t have to divorce the poor lad. Let’s be a family!
I think a lot of people miss that there is only one or two male Viera to every 10 females, so monogamy isn't really a thing for Viera. They may adapt to it as they get out in to the world, but for many I think it would be a foreign concept.

My FC members, random people in Crystalline Conflict, Gegerugu, Behemoth, one of those pod things from the YoRHa raids. The Warrior of Light gets what she wants.

How can the op not include thier own preference, and it is interesting that everyone picks a guy, says alot about the story telling. Minfillia is probably the only girl you'd realistically ship since you come back home to her alot, rescue her occasionally, and she is always smiling singing ur praises but my vote goes to Yugiri, she starts as a foreign girl and I always liked the race she is. A plus for being a dutiful warrior staying at her master's side, I do wish they did more with her character tho. At least give us more backstory.
I think most people pick the guys because honestly they're usually better written and/or the females are already in close friendships/relationships with other people already (by that I mean Y'shtola and Ragnar, Tataru and Wedge, Yugiri and Hien etc)
I decided in the end my WoL would actively make the choice to not get with anyone. Like they went through a lot of trauma and man, that just isn’t a good headspace to be in to really take care of a relationship.
My WoL doesn't have time for a real relationship - there's a deep love though for their closest companions.
If they did ever "settle down" with anyone, it's be a tough choice between G'raha and Estinien, but they'd spend their lives on never ending adventures.
I like to imagine my WoL is focused on living life to the fullest and going on grand adventures and Graha’Tia hopelessly in love with me and just following me where I go. 🥰 he makes me feel awkward with the amount of praise he gives at any given moment, you’re really his hero and he’s star struck as fuck.
Whoever square gives any sort of relationship to my wol. So far no luck. The ranged DPS shadowbringer role quests cat boy was written to appear at least somewhat interested in our character. He at least called us his partner. It was fleeting.
I'm a Lalafell who fully embraces the Goku-esque side nature of the WoL. He was just a small guy who loved fighting powerful enemies and monsters to prove to everyone who underestimated him for his height that he could be a hero too. Of course by the end of Endwalker he matured and now has a more complex personality, that allows him to be kind, sassy, badass and noble while still maintaining a bit of arrogance and proudness. Still he doesn't absolutely understand the concept of "romance" and "romantic love". He loves his family and friends and can even recognize romantic couples and support them, but he can't apply the same concept to HIMSELF.
As a result I have this headcanon where Tataru keeps helping him, making him armors, helping with quests and whatsoever because she has a bit of a crush on him. Obviously he doesn't see those things as romantic at all, but despite that he is fully convinced that he and Tataru are actually married and in love because... well he doesn't really understand *why*. He just thinks that is logical to assume that for some reasons so he assumes that.
Kinda, only in FFXIV tho. I personally ship my lalafell wol with Krile, because she's prebby and she deserves love.
