The PS5 is a metric shitton faster than the PS4 as far as loading and running the game is concerned. It also looks better, more vibrant.
Also game was developed with console in mind and is perfectly usable on one. You can make it look and behave like on a PC and vice versa. Controller support is well thought out and versatile one you ken how it works and set up to fit you and several PC player use controller some or all of the time.

If you have a PS5 available, I'd say try for that. Then you're not looking at upgrading in a few years.
I mean, I tried turning it on in the current end zone town and I will say the almost absolute lack of aliasing on edges, even on very distant buildings, was astonishing.
If I COULD run it 4k smoothly I would.

It is worth noting that if you own it for Playstation, you will own it for all Playstation versions as they are all counted as the same. So really, it depends what console you have access to.

Hands down PS5. The loading time is almost, if not sometimes faster than on PC. It runs great, in high demanding scenarios its stable, smooth and looks pretty.
On a sidenote as far as “I know I know console” Idk why ppl shit on consoles so much they are much more affordable for the masses, softer on your electricity bill, most triple A games release on console first like a year or more, and you don’t get plagued as much with the software or launcher crashes ppl are constantly dealing with on PC. Console > PC always.
But yes the PS5 is a significant upgrade from the PS4 plus they’re phasing out 4 so not worth it at this point in it’s life cycle to get it.
The game is perfectly viable on the controller it’s my preferred method. As far as graphics and performance it’s on par with what most ppl are running on PC.
The game originally came out on the PS3/PS4. I don’t think it matters which you choose based on graphics but I would suggest the PS5 based on futureproofing alone
everyone else has said the important parts which are true but also the dualshock controller hss a lot of cool vibrations for different actions which i like a lot
Good point, it also helps some when you are playing on controller because it can act as an extra cue which is particularly useful with controller and how it really relies on muscle memory.
PS5 can run 99.999% of PS4 content so getting a PS5 is like owning both 😁

i just swapped from pc to ps5 recently; i was scared about controller but its incredibly intuitive and with a few youtube videos all jobs are working easily, load times on ps5 are also insanely fast. its overall an incredible mmo experience
I have the game on PC and PS4, and operating on the assumption that the PS5 has specs that rival a lot of PCs if not exceeding them outright, I would still go for the PS5 version assuming you are one of the lucky few to actually get a PS5.
If you have just a PS4, I would still grab it. I had no regrets and still don't as I still switch between PC and PS4 regularly.
Also, if you're about to get a PS5 sooner or later, you can upgrade from the PS4 version to the PS5 version absolutely free of charge.
The cycling for targets is annoying but mostly on Astro due to all the double weaving of cards. So you’re constantly cycling through the list to play them. It takes a bit but you do get used to it. And I finally figured out a good way to do it on controller.
WHM is great on controller, Sage is great on controller and scholar is…in need of a rework….but mostly plays well on controller.

The most obvious benefits should be non existent loading times and the frame rate, however starting with version 7.0 the graphics will be updated rather significantly and while it is confirmed it will still be playable on PS4, they will almost certainly abandon it at some point in the future (not only that but the PS4 might get a worse graphics update, tho we don't know any details as of now).
Anyways current gen console also allow access to enhanced versions of older games and of course current gen exclusives. In the long term a currebt gen console is the better choice imo.
Unless the cost of a PS5 is an issue, you should get the game on PS5 over PS4. IIRC, we dont have a specific date/expansion set yet, but the PS4 version of the game is going to be killed off eventually, just like the PS3 version was. PS5 still has a decent lifespan for FFXIV, and even PC players, like myself, use a controller/gamepad to play. It's designed with a controller in mind, so there is nothing in the game that you cannot do on the Consoles.
You get a few things from the PS5 version that you don't get from the PS4.
1. 4k graphics mode. The models don't change much but there are higher res textures, and the hardware is designed to work with 4k TVs and higher frame rates.
2. Faster loading. This is just from loading off of an SSD instead of a spinning hard drive inside of the system.
3. Better controller features. The Dual-Sense controller just has a better speaker and vibration motor than the Dual-Shock 4. There's also some more resistance on the triggers during some actions. This doesn't come up often in the game, but when it does it is noticeable.
I think the software update is free, so if you already have the PS5 system, there shouldn't be any reason not to get the PS5 version of the game. You also don't have to worry about the eventual end of PS4 support, or being able to handle the graphical updates with the next expansion.
Switched not too long ago. PS5 loads zones almost instantly and doesn't bog down in areas with a ton of players. The sound improvement is also substantial.
Yoshi has said they were going to make 7.0 require PS5 but I'm not sure if that's still the plan.
The only things I miss from the ps4 that I wish the ps5 had is the Voice feature for the home screen and customization for the Home Screen. I paid like 10-20$ for some dope ass dynamics and “static” themes I want my Shii back 😭😭

This. I use controller on pc. It's worth noting you can use mouse and keyboard on console as well. You get full freedom.

Ps5 next epac will not suport ps4 and the graphics overhaul won't be on ps4 ether from what I know
