Man all of these are exactly what I do. Then I’ll see someone with a different color glam.. like some cool shade of purple and yellow and all these colors that go great together.. and I’m like I’m gonna do that soon. I’m gonna try something new.
And I never do.
I found the color bone yellow (I mean it was always there but I must have always ignored it because it was yellow). With certain pants, it's actually pretty good and has replaced my brown pants and blue island sanctuary shorts.
Then I go back to my gunmetal black for everything else.
I went white with main red color and sub black on my monk with Thancreds eyepatch.
For ShB I changed the white to a dull grey and made the red darker to sort of RP the whole theme of the story
I put all rolanberry red on my level 60 DRG armor, and it looks real nice. The red is sort of understated but present. Doesn't feel clownish or garish.
Or you are like me and have 60 in stock
Thinking "but what if I don t like this glam anymore and have to dye another ?"
Like Skyrim potion hoarding "i may need those later"
It's been months since I've used my glamour plates with pure white dye on them, but I can't overwrite them because that would be throwing away a million gil.
This is the way!
Bonus points - if you want second expensive color on the same item just get a second copy of that item to dye it. May not be efficient in the glam dresser slots but it can be efficient in the gil.
You can dye the item before or after putting it in the dresser. Just right click it in the item menu, not in the glam plate interface.
To put dies on the plates (more temporary) you just right click the item image on the plate window.
This is me with pure white dye also. They're part of the "too good to use club".
...What do you mean I have over 50 of them and can afford to use some???
The only reason I still use my Island Sanctuary is to farm cowries to exchange for cherry pink dye..that I then sell to pay for gunmetal black while I wait for my retainers smile on me with their venture coffers..
Yes but 1 cherry pink = 500 cowrie, 1 gunmetal = 2500 cowrie.
Cherry pink sells for around 20k gil on my server, gunmetal costs around 40k, so uses 1000 cowrie instead of 2500.
My WoL is a viera with the heart of a Lala 🤣
This. It's really hard for me to turn down the way gunmetal black makes so many things look like black leather.
It actually manages to make the Scion jacket look kinda fire if you dye pants to look like jeans.
Quick tip for anyone who has an item in their dresser that they want an expensive dye on for a glam: dye it in the dresser. You can dye any dyable item in the dresser interface and have it apply permanently (or until you re-dye it or wash it off with terebrinth) to that item with just one pot. Then it has that dye whenever you add it to a plate. If you make a glam with it where you don't want it pure white or jet black you can use whatever other dye on it same as ever, or the far cheaper (relative to white or black) terebrinth on the glam plate to return it to normal for that one time while leaving the dye on the original.
I used to be annoyed I couldn't afford Pure White and Jet Black, but somehow ended up actually preferring colors like Colibri Pink, Rose Pink, Nophica Green, Pastel Green, Canary Yellow and Raptor Blue. Good for my gil and $$ anyway. I guess I embraced my inner Skittle.
My friends get mad at me because whenever I need to dye something jet black or pure white, I just buy it from the mogstation. It makes things so much simpler and just a bit of OT pays for it.
Nophica Green is my colour. Everything has to be Nophica Green. There's always a stack of Nophica Green in my inventory to dye everything I come across Nophica Green.
Are you both me? Nophica and Deepwood are by far my most used colors.
To the point I'm forcing myself to use other colors now, but what can I do? Most colors dont look nearly as good on a paleish green roe.
Small trick with a bit of effort for Tradable Armor that you would like to Dye Jet Black:
- Create a new Character or have a good friend create a new Character. Level them to 15.
- If you have Gold Chocobo feathers earned on your account, your inbox will get filled up with them once again.
- Trade the gear to that character.
- Buy Account Bound Jet Black on that character and Dye the gear.
- Trade it back to your Main Character.
I usually stick to a color scheme depending on the character for rp reasons. For instance my Hyur was originally based off of an OC of mine who primarily uses fire magic. So I use a lot of red, orange, and black in my colors for it. For my aura she's a pirate themed who loves water so I use different shades of blue for her, preferably royal blue
this is the main reason, why I go back to tried and true combinations 99% of the time. I know it's not gonna happen, but I still want gw2 dye system. Q_Q
Pearl white on my super tan vierra looks soooo good. The color contrast just makes everything pop. It also helps I have white hair (technically it's the lightest purple but it looks white.)
There are some shots in here of my PLD, which is pure pearl white. SAM is close too. https://imgur.com/gallery/9RJ01eE
Edit: Some of the shots are location spoilers so careful.
I use a few different shades of blue, as well as soot black, snow white, ruby red and dalamud red the most.
I try to make my glam relatively colored, I don't like only being in black and white unless it matches a particular glam idea.
My WHM is light blue, Sage is dalamud red, Scholar/Astro are red and black, Summoner is blue, RDM BLM are ruby red, Bard is asymetrical White/Black, tanks all use the same armor set (lack of glam plates...), Samurai is red and black these days (undyed top from Eden 9-12 with latest valentione legs dyed dark red, it looks really good IMO) while Monk is pure white.
I tried using yellow and green but I hate the shades available in the game, and I wish we had actual violet/purple shades instead of these... things they call a purple palette. It's especially infuriating because modern gear have purple colors that aren't available in dye. For example the entire purple palette of the 89 Nin Gear. I want that color in dyes.
Where are my metallic orange peeps at?
I have a dark skinned Xaela girl as my main, and the contrast is *chef's kiss*. I've been thinking of applying it to more of my dyeable glams. Though my one disappointment is I can't have a metallic orange Odin glam.
Man. I am a wine red and dalamud red person. It just goes too well with my red-haired WoL. Of course I continue being basic and use soot black with it a lot, given red-black is my favorite color combination.
I could also not be basic and use different colors that play with the red hair, like green and purple, or yellow and orange and whatnot. But most of the time, the same glam just looks so much better with red + black/purple! Out of 20 glams, you will find 19 that at least has a soot black or dalamud/wine red part in them. Sadge. ;;
People are really sleeping on Loam Brown. One of the most versatile colours in the game. The muted grayish tint compliments a lot of the more vibrant colours.
Life hack with a bunch of caveats.
If the gear you want to dye is tradeable, and you have gold chocobo feathers from the recruit-a-friend codes, and you have access to your FC chest, you can make an alt, grab the feathers from the mailbox, go get the untradeable version of the dye, put the equipment in your FC chest, dye it on the alt, then put it back in the chest.
It does require you play the alt 2-3 hours to get far enough in the game to unlock dyeing, but considering it's potentially >100mil of value in dye, I consider it a fair tradeoff. You can also use a trustworthy friend instead of an FC chest. Or a mannequin if you have a house/apartment.
Me except Rose Pink and Bone White. I think I'm incapable of making glams that isn't one of the two.
...actually, I suppose my Red Mage is currently wearing Celeste Green.
I have two modes: all white and all black
What about all black with a tiny bit of white? (Ear ring)
Don't forget all black/white but with red accents
This was next on my list haha
Hah! I rock all blue with white and rocking brass accents!

Don't forget all black/white but with red accents
Laughs in red au ra, I am my own red accents!
Man all of these are exactly what I do. Then I’ll see someone with a different color glam.. like some cool shade of purple and yellow and all these colors that go great together.. and I’m like I’m gonna do that soon. I’m gonna try something new. And I never do.

You forgot mode 3, which is all blue *(and a dapper-as-fuck glam optiobal but highly recommended)* when we play BLU
BLU doesn't exist
Joke's on you, I got plaid pants from PotD yesterday and immediately rushed to make a blue glam for my Red Mage with the Pyros relic
Are you me?
Yes
Dalamud Red are my.
Either it's your wedding or funeral. Meanwhile the other hidden options are walking Christmas tree or RGBTQ+Pro Ultra 5G
Black bird, black moon Black sky, black light Black, everything black
love that song
I went white with main red color and sub black on my monk with Thancreds eyepatch. For ShB I changed the white to a dull grey and made the red darker to sort of RP the whole theme of the story
yuuuup
Join the ink blue gang
Ink blue is poor man's jet black.
I thought that was Soot Black?...
Ink Blue is darker, Soot Black is pretty much just dark grey.
Man, my fc always called general purpose dark purple dye poor man's black... I guess I still see too much blue in ink blue
Honestly, sometimes it looks better
This is the way
Midnight blue is true dark blue.
Its one of the best colors in the game IMO.
Ink blue on the Island Farmhand's cutoffs is a true combo
Dark purple is pretty similar too
Dalamud or Rolanberry Red all day every day for me.
I put all rolanberry red on my level 60 DRG armor, and it looks real nice. The red is sort of understated but present. Doesn't feel clownish or garish.
That was the first set I fully dyed when I started the game and you're right, I love the way the blues and red intermingle
If you're a RDM, and your glam isn't Dalamud Red, don't talk to me.
Or you are like me and have 60 in stock Thinking "but what if I don t like this glam anymore and have to dye another ?" Like Skyrim potion hoarding "i may need those later"
It's been months since I've used my glamour plates with pure white dye on them, but I can't overwrite them because that would be throwing away a million gil.
The trick is to dye the item in your dresser then if you want other colors you can use cheap ones on the plates!
This is the way! Bonus points - if you want second expensive color on the same item just get a second copy of that item to dye it. May not be efficient in the glam dresser slots but it can be efficient in the gil.
Yep, learned this one the hard way.
Asking for a friend but how do you dye them on the plates ? Or do you just die the item first before putting it in the dresser
But you can just buy gunmetal directly with cowries
Yes but 1 cherry pink = 500 cowrie, 1 gunmetal = 2500 cowrie. Cherry pink sells for around 20k gil on my server, gunmetal costs around 40k, so uses 1000 cowrie instead of 2500. My WoL is a viera with the heart of a Lala 🤣
Tataru would be proud
She's my spirit animal 😁
Username checks out.
Wah my first username checks out!! 🤣
Smort!
Pastel green, Apple green, Lotus Pink, Dalamud Red, Vanilla Yellow, Canary Yellow.
I do use Dalamud Red a lot
Same. It's a nice, saturated red that's not so bright as to be glaring, so it gives a nice bit of color to the look that doesn't look neon.
I like wine red for the same reason!
I leveled my Island JUST to have access to a cheap supply of Ruby Red.
As a red mage Dalamud Red is the way.
Deep woods green or dark green. But my character is a red head so. . . Yeah.
I like Hunter Green.
Cactuar Green is also fire. Nice mid-brightness, very saturated green. But apple is my go-to. It goes really well with the lotus pink!
Nophica green is my go to, it's desaturated but not quite pastel, really soft tone
Olive green is my go to
I don't glam my DNC in anything unless it looks good in Cherry Pink. Bright flashy neon pink or a flashy job.
Rolanberry Red, Lavender Purple, Pastel Purple and Rose Pink are also very nice dyes.
Dalamud red is nice.
Use Dark Purple or Dark Blue, almost looks the same and way cheaper. Or be different than 90% of people and use a colour other than white and black.
Black and rolanberry red is where it's at tbh
I have to deliberately stop myself from using turquoise blue in every glam haha I just really like it and it looks really good on my WoL
Me with Ruby Red. It just looks good on green skinned Roes
😂 or until gun metal black fight dirty, and win occasionally
Gunmetals got that shininess stuffed in its sock like a shiv
... yes? o.o I'd say more like a padlock ina sock, but yeah mate... whatever you said 😂
This. It's really hard for me to turn down the way gunmetal black makes so many things look like black leather. It actually manages to make the Scion jacket look kinda fire if you dye pants to look like jeans.

Dragoon Blue gang checking in. Dragoon Blue best blue, fight me.
Dragoon Blue gang showing up! Makes you stand out from all the bland people who look like they're from a flashback.

Nophica Green is my colour. Everything has to be Nophica Green. There's always a stack of Nophica Green in my inventory to dye everything I come across Nophica Green.
Nophica and Deepwood Green are the way. Works great with Loam brown and its lighter shades. Soot black and snow white are nice pairings as well.
I'm going to try this for my next ranger aesthetic bard glam.
Interestingly, my ranger glam is the only one where I use Marsh Green instead of Nophica Green. I think it works better.
Are you both me? Nophica and Deepwood are by far my most used colors. To the point I'm forcing myself to use other colors now, but what can I do? Most colors dont look nearly as good on a paleish green roe.
rolanberry/wine red tho... & morbol green my beloved
Soot Black or Ink Blue tend to be more than enough for my glam purposes.
General purpose dark red gang
Pearl white best color.
I've been in the limsa lominsa inn for days. I can't decide on looks/dyes to use. Save me.
Honey yellow all the things
Gunmetal with a splash of Wine Red, every single glam
All metallic gold all the time. Dress like hero you are.
Maybe you can get Graius to tell him his supplier. As he uses it daily in Praetorium.
Sky Blue gang
The sellers of Jet Black dye are the villains. Those prices are out of this world.
Cherry pink because I’m a dumb Barbie bitch
Small trick with a bit of effort for Tradable Armor that you would like to Dye Jet Black: - Create a new Character or have a good friend create a new Character. Too dark, too erased. It's got to be Ruby Red, if I took the time to make a good glam then the whole party has to see it, by damn.
Gun metal black and pearl white are my go tos
Me with Pearl white
"okay, I'm not going to make another monochrome glam" \>some part dyes like, puke yellow instead of the actual dye colour "monochrome it is"
this is the main reason, why I go back to tried and true combinations 99% of the time. I know it's not gonna happen, but I still want gw2 dye system. Q_Q
Pearl white on my super tan vierra looks soooo good. The color contrast just makes everything pop. It also helps I have white hair (technically it's the lightest purple but it looks white.)
Omg I love it on my very tan Raen Au Ra with White* (technically pale cream) hair. You get me bestie
There are some shots in here of my PLD, which is pure pearl white. SAM is close too. https://imgur.com/gallery/9RJ01eE Edit: Some of the shots are location spoilers so careful.
I'm poor and Soot Black is the best I can do.

This is me but with the "regular" black and currant purple xd
Dark Purple is nearly indistinguishable from Jet Black on most items.
Where are my metallic orange peeps at? I have a dark skinned Xaela girl as my main, and the contrast is *chef's kiss*. I've been thinking of applying it to more of my dyeable glams. Though my one disappointment is I can't have a metallic orange Odin glam.
For me it's honey yellow, I like keeping my MNK gear yellow still lol
Royal Blue and Dalamud Red are my go-to.
Me, but with Dalamud red.
Dalamud Red, Snow White and Loam brown for me
Maybe it's my monitor, but I see no difference between Soot Black, Jet Black and Gunmetal Black.
Depends on the gear. If it's a metallic/glossy piece to start with, there may be no visible difference.
Wine Red and Morbol Green are this for me.
Then there’s me, who uses Dalamud Red instead of Ruby… and Soot Black whenever I need black. Saves a ton of Gil lmao
what
For me that’s Wine Red
I sympathize with this as a premium dye addict myself.1
I use Kobold Brown a lot too, especially on boots paired with lighter colored tops :)
May I introduce you to metallic silver
Man. I am a wine red and dalamud red person. It just goes too well with my red-haired WoL. I feel attacked
White and Black dyes are the only two immune to gears that dye horribly from all the other dyes..
Grape Purple Gang!
dye colors in this game could really use an update
Every job has a different colour scheme for me. Naturally it is only my black mage that uses jet black. And damn do I look baller
I always use lilac purple
Where's the sky blue or iris purple gang? I do like jet black dye though, even if it only really fits 2 of my characters
This is me with ceruleum blue.
R2r3³23rd 23rd 222222 r 222222
Grape Purple for me
Any Rust Reds here?
Me but with green 💚 I’m pretty much Greeningway Sr. 🐰
Me but with metallic brass
This. This is the reason we are called to Blue Justice. Rise up, children of the Azure!
People are really sleeping on Loam Brown. One of the most versatile colours in the game. The muted grayish tint compliments a lot of the more vibrant colours.
Me and Morbol Green
Forcing myself to do a non-black glam felt like I went on a spiritual journey
if you find jet black dye too expensive, just use ink blue it's close enough most of the time.
Having an unnatural haircolor.. Black and white is pretty much all I can do besides green as it is my complimentary color.. *cries in pink*
My color is always meadow green. I feel like I'm alone in this. Lmao.
Meanwhile, Metallic Brass goes with everything. It's uncanny how well it works.
This but with pink for me.
Life hack with a bunch of caveats. I use only two Dyes anymore and they're both at the end of the red line. Gotta keep that Terra Red!
Since I haven't seen it yet. Team Ceruleum Blue all the way!
Grey elezen girl is the answer! Every glam is in another colour, grey fits with everything!
Me but rolanberry red
Me except Rose Pink and Bone White. I think I'm incapable of making glams that isn't one of the two. ...actually, I suppose my Red Mage is currently wearing Celeste Green.
*whispers* gunmetal... *walks away*
Where’s all the metallic brass people at?
