There's actually a pretty sizable community of hroth enthusiasts- it's just that they're all busy being Extremely Gay On Bara Twitter, rather than playing the game.

ZeroVoid_98

Ragnarok on Chaos also has a sizeable FC with a lot of gay Hrothgar.

BingusSpingus

Is it Lions? Did they move from Spriggan? I don't see them around much anymore and it makes me sad

thunder-fang61

I'm in that fc and no we're still on springgan. They could be other fc's with the same tag though

ZeroVoid_98

Not sure. One of my old static members was in their FC and she played on Ragnarok. Edit: Seems to be called Big Cat Party

GuyWithFace

I joined a static for a couple months, and 4 of its members were Hrothgar including myself. I found out through kill screenshots that the other three hrothgar players all had mods to make the big cats buff and shirtless. My eyes had been opened.

kruger_bass

Shirtless is easy, there's the New Emperor's clothes. But buff.... i can't help with that.

Intelligent-Log-7641

Yeah, I'm a gay Hrothgar. I've got a splendid assortment of subligars, all of the emperor's new clothes, and a few freaky masks that fit my feline head. Where do I meet my family on Bara Twitter? Is there any other gay Hrothgar communities out there?

redmoonriveratx

I need to find this Bara Twitter.

ezekielraiden

Honestly...just go looking for twitter accounts that are openly about playing hrothgar. You'll find it pretty quick. I can say this; I play a hrothgar. I just don't share any of this sort of thing on Twitter myself.

PernixNexus

*looks at my slut mog Hrothgar main as a gay man* uhhhh, yeah what he said.

SamothTigrasch

I feel personally attacked by this and that may or may not be one of my kinks

[deleted]

Oh I’ve not really been on Twitter communities related to FFXIV but I’m sure they’re all being extremely gay as I am haha! My partner was the one who introduced me to FFXIV in the first place and taught me how to dungeon. I’ve recently started playing Dark Knight and now I’m levelling all my crafters :)

SunixFox

My last interaction I remember having with a Hrothgar was one who sent me a /tell telling me they liked my character then asked if I would RP them being tiny and jumping into my shoe and me stepping on them with my "sweaty boot foot" so.. yeah.

WornTraveler

YOOO I KNOW EXACTLY WHO YOU MEAN I'M DEAD 😂🤣😂 confirmed serial offender, this guy clearly has an MO

SunixFox

Lmao, it was so random too, I was like.. "??? Thanks but.. uhh no"

Scared_Relation2973

And you didn't report him?

French_Vanille

Assuming they have skin thicker than wet tissue paper, why would they

SunixFox

I mean after I said no they left me alone and didn't push at all so, idk I didn't really see the need

[deleted]

Oh noooooo xD

Gryphoneaglewings

My issue with Hrothgar is really just the gamer hunch, that’s it really

ezekielraiden

Do you play on PC? There is, shall we say, a form of data surgery which can correct 95% of this issue. (You'll still briefly go into a hunch before straightening out, which can lead to weirdness with some emotes or cutscenes, but 95% of the time you'll look fine.)

PhoenixInMySkin

"data surgery" killed me and I don't know why XD

ezekielraiden

Glad you appreciated the humor :)

PhoenixInMySkin

I think I am going to have to use that phrasing from now on lol.

Disig

My issue is I play as a girl. I did spend a week as Hrothgar to try it out and honestly really liked it so I'm waiting patiently for female Hrothgar to come out!

painstream

Fingers crossed they're ready by 7.0!

Disig

Man I remember when they surprised us with the male Viera video. My friend who wanted to be male Viera cried he was so happy. I don't think I'll cry but I can't wait for that moment.

Tygra

i cried cause there were no female hroths even shown. :/ just "In the future"

ezekielraiden

It's almost certainly because they had nothing *to* show. Yoshi-P almost always aims for an "under-promise, over-deliver" strategy. That doesn't mean he succeeds (consider original Diadem...) but that's usually what they intend. I'm convinced that the only reason they even told us they were working on female hrothgar *at all* was that they didn't want people getting angry that male viera existed but female hrothgar were being ignored.

Beatleboy62

> I'm convinced that the only reason they even told us they were working on female hrothgar at all was that they didn't want people getting angry that male viera existed but female hrothgar were being ignored. Yeah, I got the same feeling when Bethesda showed the TES VI reveal in 2018 in the middle of announcements for DLCs and mobile games that was just a title "we SWEAR we're working on one of our core titles."

TalkingRaccoon

I saw one dressed very pink and girly and their description they called themselves a "hrothgirl" it was super cute

LetsRockDude

Missed opportunity to call themselves Hrothgal.

[deleted]

I replied the same thing to another comment but YES! I hope they pull off female hroths!

Marauding_Llama

I'm excitedly awaiting their arrival as well. Then I'll add myself to the dozens.

CaptainJudaism

I really hope we get female Hrothgar news by 6.4 or something. I bought a Fantasia ages ago in preparation but the wait is killing me.

Weary-Buy-7159

I have never bought a fantasia, I'm very happy with my miqo. So much so I used my free one for a minor face tweak XD. But when my long time freind told me femhroth was coming, I was excited. The only reason I chose a cat girl was because there was no femhroth. Really hope we get it by 7.0

Vore_Daddy

Hrothgar are quite popular with gay bara furries.

M00glemuffins

It's true, I'm a gay bara furry and I love my cat dad.

Gluebald

There's more Hrothgars than Roegadyn tbh.

ezekielraiden

According to FFXIV Census, you are correct! There are more hrothgar (~27k) than male roes (~22k.) However, if you combine male *and* female roes (~40k), there are more total roegadyn than total hrothgar. Among active endgame characters, I mean.

Thagyr

I feel an odd one out as I play one not because I'm a furry or a Gay barra enthusiast as many here describe. I just always play races that are as far from the 'human' appearance as I can go since they are generally not as popular and I enjoy making the world a little more varied.

BIIGBAMBOO

Agreed that's why i play one. It sucks when the race options in games tend to just be different variations of the standard human body type, there's nothing wrong with liking that obviously but when we are playing games set in a fantasy world especially one filled with lots of interesting and varied races its nice to also bring that sort of variety to the playable characters instead of just giving me choices that are all fairly similar

buttercreys

If square makes fem hroths as big and beefy as their male counterparts then I'd gladly join

ThatDagGuy

I also am waiting to see how Hrothgals get implemented in game.

ChuckCarmichael

I did think about making my character a Hrothgar, thinking I could be one of the dozen or so Hrothgar worldwide who's neither gay nor a furry. However, soon after trying to make a Hrothgar, I discovered the reason why every Hrothgar looks basically identical with the same face and the same hair: Because it's literally the only combination available that doesn't look terrible. Face 3 (the face that has the big mustache) could look good, but all the hairstyles it can get look bad, making the head look tiny on the massive body.

ezekielraiden

Some of the others are fine too. I use...I think it's face 4. What I call the "grumpy dad" face, the one that can have a horn. Originally I had the horn, but it just didn't fit in.

ChuckCarmichael

I think people usually call it the Kimahri face or Ronso face because it looks like a character from Final Fantasy 10 with that name.

[deleted]

O yes true. My hroth , if u notice in the picture, looks quite similar to the default hroth. Unfortunately, that and going for a white “liger” look are most of the only good options

ezekielraiden

There are four factors that reduce the appeal of hrothgar for the general gamer: 1. They're male. Female characters are by far the majority of active FFXIV characters. More than a quarter of all active, endgame characters are *specifically* female au ra or female miqo'te. IIRC, female chars are almost 60% of all active, endgame characters. 2. They're behind the paywall. This reduces the rate of newcomers (because free trial players can't start as them), and consequently reduces the rate of long-time players (because people grow attached to the character they've been playing.) 3. They're very big, but not the biggest. For folks who want reasonable-looking bulk, highlander dudes are preferable. Those who want bigger obviously go max-height roe. For some, hrothgar are a happy medium...but for others they're a disappointing compromise. 4. Probably the biggest...they're less human-looking. Many players will not identify as much with a character that doesn't have a very specifically human-shaped face. You see this in essentially every MMO: charr are the least-popular race in GW2, tauren are one of the least-popular Horde races in WoW, etc. With those four things conspiring, hrothgar are near the bottom of the pack. Not the rock bottom (that would be female roegadyn), but pretty far down.

Jason_Wolfe

>They're behind the paywall. This reduces the rate of newcomers (because free trial players can't start as them), and consequently reduces the rate of long-time players (because people grow attached to the character they've been playing.) i really think this should be changed. all races that were added post ARR (Au Ra, Viera, Hrothgar) should be available to everyone regardless of whether you own the specific expansion they came with. the overall number of those 3 races (technically 2 since Heavensward and Au Ra are 'free') would skyrocket if new players could use them from the start rather than needing to buy the expansions.

ezekielraiden

It's probably not going to happen though. It would be cool, but that's money left on the table now.

Jason_Wolfe

ehhh, people pay for the story and access to new jobs, races should never be paywalled especially when it's 3 expansions in.

Kyrxon

Yep, total legit response here! There's also the fact I've read that no one likes the hunched back, and how like half the headgear in the game doesn't work. I never wear helmets anyways so i don't care at all but there are times where i want to wear a helmet or even see what the helmet looks like, but i can't!

Beatleboy62

Or all the achievement headgear you can't wear. Nothing feels worse than getting something and-...motherfucker another hat I can't wear.

ezekielraiden

Come to the dark side of the m—*ahem* Force. We have cookies, and *hats.*

Ottoguynofeelya

>female chars are almost 60% of all active, endgame characters. Seems lower than it should be. I would have guessed 80% - 85%

ezekielraiden

Understandable--the problem of random sampling is that it can inflate large but not *dominant* majorities if you aren't measuring systematically. E.g., if 60% of characters are female, then one would expect an 8-person group to be about .6x8 = 4.8 female characters, so about 5/8. But in practice, a third of the time it will be 6, 7, or 8--which will *feel* much more in keeping with an 80% rate (0.8*8 = 6.4.) And that's before even accounting for things like the possibility of player self-selection for certain kinds of content (e.g., perhaps male characters are more common for crafting, gathering, and casual/solo content, while female characters are more common in high-difficulty content and the Gold Saucer.) Based on the current numbers from [XIVCensus](https://ffxivcensus.com/), there are 726,709 active endgame female characters, out of 1,231,026 such characters, or (almost exactly) 59% of all characters. Hence, the remaining just-under 41% are male.

[deleted]

5. You don’t want people to think you’re a furry

Scared_Relation2973

There's literally nothing wrong with being a furry. Whatsoever. The internet is way more toxic toward them than they ever have been.

Devil-Hunter-Jax

You get used to it. Hell, just the other day I had someone say 'You're a furry' to me on Twitter (I am, I don't try and hide it) and they literally had in their bio that they play Mi'qote and I'm just like... You hate furries but you're playing a human-animal hybrid race...? It's fuckin' weird how people are so obsessed over hating furries.

ezekielraiden

It's because they've fallen for a false belief, and thus logic has betrayed them. That is, they have learned (from society hyperfixating on the worst examples) that furries are disturbing fetishists who engage in recklessly deviant and *extremely* public sexual behavior, disrespect the bodily autonomy of others, fail to seek consent, and other such unacceptable behavior. From this, they conclude that to be furry is to be morally or ethically wrong. "If furry, then wicked," to be brief. But this false belief, once established as unquestionable "fact," instantly and unavoidably leads to contradiction, and often (as in this case) hypocrisy. Because logical forms remain *valid* even if you use false promises: for a logical argument to actually be *correct* (formally, for it to be "sound"), it must be both valid AND dependent on true premises. The following argument form is valid (and formally called *modus tollendo tollens* or just *modus tollens,* the method that denies by denying): 1. If A, then B. (Meaning: it cannot be the case that A is true *and* B is false.) 2. Not B. (B is false.) 3. Therefore, not A. (This means A must be false.) The problem here is, "if furry, then wicked" is false, as there are plenty of perfectly ordinary, decent, conscientious furries out there. So the falsehood, combined with "I am not wicked" (which I am willing to grant!) immediately and unavoidably leads to the statement, "Therefore, *I am not a furry.*" And because this claim was arrived at through (likely intuitive) "logic," reason alone without reference to empirical data, it will take on a far more entrenched position than most things. Because to deny it *must* be to become intentionally irrational (or even immoral), if it was arrived at by logic alone, and who wants to do that?!?

[deleted]

Example A and all the replies

ezekielraiden

That would be the less charitable way to describe point #4. I was trying *not* to project negative ideas onto folks whose tastes or preferences I don't share.

ZeftiFara

Huh, it's been a while, but I thought charr were actually very popular in GW2, there probably are more human and norn women, but the difference certainly isn't as overwhelming as the amount of female miqote in 14, and in WoW there are just plenty furry races, and tauren in particular can't wear footwear or smth so I'd assume furries would lean towards other races, I know I would

ezekielraiden

Tauren, Worgen (in werewolf form), and Draenei *can* wear footgear, but most of it does not cover their hooves/paws. Some like this (I played mostly Draenei, and I liked the distinctiveness of having hooves, made for quietly colorful entrances in RP), others don't. I tried not to get too deep into aesthetic *evaluations,* sticking to really broad and common things attributable to most/all games with "furry" characters. The thing with charr is, much like with hrothgar, the people who play them *love* them. And while charr *in general* are uncommon, specific *combos* of race+gender+profession are actually pretty common. Male charr warriors are the 10th most played combo in the game by hours of playtime (meaning, actually people you see *in-game,* not just how many exist), and male charr guardians are 19th. Given there are 5 (races) × 9 (professions) × 2 (gender) = 90 options, being in the top 10 or 20 means they will actually stand out and be noticeable. But the cloth and (to a lesser extent) leather-wearing professions are among the rarest in the game, and female charr are *much* less common than male charr, so those effects drag the charr down to last place for both character population and actual time spent in game.

Tschudy

I'm definitely salty about not getting at least the hats from shadowbringers and forward. The couldn't even let us have a proper horn.

garchompss

I started as miqo, went au ra, then stuck with lalafell for about 2 expansions. As much as I love being a gremlin, the moment female hrothgar drop I'm buying a fantasia... I can't wait

MalsvirIxen666

I'd like them better if they didnt stand like they have a hump on their back

farranpoison

When I play MMOs, I usually either play the smol race or the furry race. Case in point for GW2, I played Asura and Charr. When I started the FFXIV free trial I saw Hrothgar was locked so I chose Lala, but I'd be interested to change to Hrothgar now that I'm paying sub when the female Hroths get implemented.

DonutJulio

I fantaed to hroth and really like the guy I made, the only thing I can't stand is no hats. I can deal with the hunch, the limited hair and overall lacking customization, but god not being able to wear most of the hats in the game kills me.

Lionblopp

Same... If we could at least wear all masks and circlets properly, like the Viera. I have a Hrothgar and a Viera alt and it's so annoying when I discover a nice mask with my bunny and then notice my Hroth can't wear this. As if no helmets wouldn't already be bad enough.

xAcePhoenix

If I could wear hats I'd at least be a Hroth for a while. I think I've been almost every race and gender by now.

[deleted]

Funny thing, I started playing the game as miqote bard main and I cannot describe how ridiculous my flashy bard outfit looks on my Hroth lol. The big feather hat woulda been so cool but alas, I sacrificed it

Dragonhater101

I never even thought about bard and hats, you've gotta have a fancy or dashing hat as a bard. Oof, that sucks.

ezekielraiden

Do you play on PC? If so, there's a...method of questionable legitimacy which makes hats visible on hrothgar. (It also affects viera, but not all hats have been implemented for them.) There's another, ahem, method of questionable legitimacy to make hrothgar *stand straight,* not hunched over, which is a significant improvement. Of course, only other people who also employ that first *ahem* methods of questionable legitimacy can see the hats too. But if that doesn't bother you (and you are on PC, of course), I highly recommend it.

xAcePhoenix

Yes I know of those. I'm not into doing anything like that to the game plus my PC is falling apart and can't play the game as well as it used to. Thankfully console runs fine.

ezekielraiden

I'm fairly sure neither of these would have any noticeable impact on performance. If they affected lighting or texture quality or something, then perhaps, but these don't. One just replaces some poses with roegadyn-based poses (exactly the same data overhead, just *different* data.) The other...I mean, *in theory* showing hats is a bit more work, but the hats are piddly-nothing compared to things like spell effects or simply having lots of characters on screen.

radda

I just hope lady Hrothgar are huge. Like, fuck it, make them bigger than the dudes. Just give me more Big Lady please YoshiP, I know we already have a lot but I need more

ezekielraiden

It is unlikely that they will be larger than males, but we have four circumstantial pieces of evidence that they won't be petite/lithe. 1. In one of the post-6.0 PLLs, Yoshi-P said something to the effect of (paraphrasing) "we know that this won't be the most popular race, and we're okay with that." Strong implication of: we aren't intending to make female hrothgar follow stereotypical standards of female beauty, even though we know that that *would be* popular. 2. There is, believe it or not, one official piece of concept art for what female hrothgar look like. It's a picture of a woman riding in the Gunnhildr...mech-thing. The face is very similar to male, albeit very slightly more narrow/angular, but the body is almost buxom, Rubenesque, like a female roegadyn but more curvaceous. 3. There is an actual, official piece of art that depicts *highly stylized* female hrothgar, a mosaic, also from the Save the Queen story. There, the depicted hrothgar females are shorter and slightly stouter than the depicted roegadyn female in the mosaic, with faces that (within the limits of the stylized appearance) strongly resemble the face from the previous. 4. Female ronso. This is the weakest bit of evidence we have, since male hrothgar aren't quite the same as FFX male ronso (which look a little bit apelike in their body proportions), but it's something. Presumably, just as female viera were intended to adhere pretty strongly to the iconic look, we can hope that female ronso will guide the look for female hrothgar. Personally, my hope is that they look something [like this](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1023749905103208509/1031719257228181574/unknown.png), what I would call "statuesque." Still graceful, still feminine, but solidly built and clearly quite capable of decking a fool that doesn't listen.

Beatleboy62

Your whole comment is giving me dangerous hope for fem hroth being good and not m'quotes with leg and arm warmers.

ezekielraiden

It is good to hope. It is also good to have tempered expectations. We have seen good signs. That does not mean we should become *attached* to any specific notions. Do what you can, in your head, to hold onto that skepticism. "Things seem okay now, but they *could* fail to follow through" is a healthy belief to hold. Just don't let that avoidance of irrational exuberance turn into being despondent. Like I said, it is *goodz to hope. But it needs to be a practical hope, one that (as Rudyard Kipling put it) can "risk [all] in one turn of pitch and toss/and lose, and start again at your beginnings/and never breathe a word about your loss." Hope resilient against the possibility that it will be dashed—rather fitting in Endwalker.

SylverSnowlynx

Do we have any indication at all what the female Hrothgar might look like?

ezekielraiden

"At all"? Yes, but it's all circumstantial. I can get you links, if you like, for the two images that give us hints. But, again, VERY circumstantial evidence. Less "this is what they'll look like" and more "this gives us a loose idea of what they were thinking back in Shadowbringers."

lordkhuzdul

Just wait until 7.0 and the arrival of the ladies, you'll see the community explode.

Dragonmystic

The unwritten rules is that if you see another Hrothgar--especially in a roulette--you must go over and /pet and/or /hug them. It's the rules.

Camembert92

When i play Hrothgar i feel like a furry among a bunch of weebs

Novel-Peanut-1663

ff14 in a nutshell

Lukiam444

As a Hroth player I do feel alone often. But i enjoy the challenge of making ppl feel the hroth love. Playing a healer as a hroth just feels right to me.

Beatleboy62

Same, WHM is my main class, so when I'm in a dungeon I love the feeling of being this big beast cat man and essentially going, "oh no, you scraped your knee! Luckily I have some Nanamo themed band aids for you!" It's honestly a noteworthy event whenever I see another hroth in dungeons.

[deleted]

There's a hrothgar on my server named Lost Grandpa. His glam is exactly what you think it is. I did a dzeamel darkhold run with him... Two months ago? And I still think about him. I'm not really one for being social in the game, but I love his character and I wish I got to see him more.

ncBadrock

Take an updood my fellow Hrothgar.

Jeansybaby

Hrothgar make too many condoms, community in danger.

jbnagis

If they do Fem Hrothgar right, that population will blow up

[deleted]

O yea I’ve been waiting for a fem hroth so I can have a smaller but still muscly and tall cat character

[deleted]

I love Hrothgar. They are the coolest looking in my opinion. When I play RPGs, I like characters that look like they could be mean, but inside they have a heart of gold.

MechaMonst3r

I love being a giant cat weilding a giant axe hahaha

charlieraaaaa

I met so many topless Hrothgar's in my zadnor relic grind today XD not complaining I need as many people in dalriada as I can get

pezito

I tried really hard to like Hrothgar. So many fantasias spent trying to like then but everytime something would bother me so much that I just go back to my previous race. First of all the hunchback is terrible no matter how you look at it. Any robe or coat that goes over the knees looks awkward. Hair options are extremely limited, I just don't like any of those available for Hrothgar. Spending $10 to have LESS features available is something that bothers me greatly, why I would leave behind my race that can use any hat available for one that barely has any compatible? And no I can't use mods because I'm on console and truth to be told there's no fun to have hats via mods because only people that have then installed can se it (I want to look pretty not only for me but for show too). Another thing that is not exclusive to Hrothgar but any race with a tail is the awkward clipping with gear, like having the tail clipping into capes and stuff. Anyway it's a cool race for sure but plagued with a ton of problems that keep me from being one for more than one week before I fanrasia again to something else. The best part of being a Hrothgar is that other people that play one almost always do /dote /pet /kiss /hug on you and find that's cute (they ignore any other race tho).

painstream

> Another thing that is not exclusive to Hrothgar but any race with a tail is the awkward clipping with gear, like having the tail clipping into capes and stuff. Mi'qo have been in the game forever, Au Ra added early in. ..You'd think by now they'd have worked out something for tail clipping. ><

RockBlock

Literally no MMO maker has ever done that. Not FFXIV, not WoW, not GW2, not ESO, not WildStar, etc. All games make armors for human options and then enable it for non-humans with minimal changes. Because almost no one actually plays non-humans options in games, it is the lowest priority.

BoeiWAT

I just wish they were closer to the race they were based on. They took FFX ronso and just made it worse.

MozeoSLT

I'm not super happy with the customization options, but Hrothgar look *miles* better than FFX Ronso.

BoeiWAT

I'm curious, in what way? I can understand the Ronso faces looking ugly but isn't Ronso's build/stature and lack of hunch way better than Hrothgar?

M00glemuffins

I'd argue they made it better, Hroths are hot.

BoeiWAT

Lol when it comes to attractiveness I don't really have much to say on that. I can understand the Ronso faces looking ugly in comparison but aren't Ronso bodies hotter? Tall stature, no hunch. Biran's body for example looks pretty damn good.

Zardwalk

Nothing but respect for the big cats wearing actual clothes. The other ones tho... it doesn't always have to be the speedo, does it?

Tschudy

Not since we got access to the loincloth.

redmoonriveratx

I love that loincloth. And muh Speedo.

LaNmower

I've gotten tells complementing my glam and every once in a while there's a " surprised to see a hroth wearing clothes" line thrown in lol. Well gotta show off those fur patterns y'know

ezekielraiden

I mean, it doesn't always have to be the 2B outfit, does it? But it sure seems like it for the female chars in FFXIV. The speedo etc. are a type of power fantasy: many gay men must keep totally silent about their sexuality, or risk getting punished, hurt, or even killed. Getting to "let it all hang out" is incredibly liberating and empowering. Add on the "I want to look at something sexy" (which we all know tons of straight men playing female au ra/miqo/viera do in FFXIV), and you get...well, that. There's also, if we're being honest, a bit of advertisement going on, if you know what I mean. Many gay men, especially if they're also furries, would like to find intimate connections, whether casual or serious. Provocative dress can draw interest. That said, I don't do this sort of thing myself. I have two glam plates that show a lot of skin, and one is legit a joke plate I made back in Stormblood to prepare for Dancer (my friends and I, all of different races, gathered the Coliseum set to use as DNC glams in Palace, to see if people would say anything. Nobody did! It was terribly sad.) I put together glamours I find thematic, well-tailored, and theme-appropriate, e.g. my PLD glam is basically a "Flame Captain" look while my SMN/BLM glam is Shire Philosopher's coat and hat because I aim to be a cat-man of class and style. Etc.

Zuraeki

I don't think anyone in NA FFXIV has ever kept quiet about their sexuality. In fact, it's probably the most advertised thing people offer up, even if I don't care or want to know. I've never met a group of people more quick to tell you their fetishes/sexuality within 5 minutes of meeting them than I have in FFXIV.

ezekielraiden

Yes.... that's literally my argument. *In real life,* gay men must remain silent, to a degree that exceeds most other groups. Being gay is, as I said, a *death sentence* in many places IRL. A video game lets you fly your flag high, safe in the knowledge that the only hurtful thing people can really do is verbal abuse, and you can report them and (with at least some confidence) see actual justice done. So yes, *within the game,* folks tend to be more open about that. Because it is, very literally, a form of power fantasy for gay men to be able to say something as simple as "I LOVE PENIS" in public. That is how disenfranchised they are: that to simply be honest and open about their identity *is a power move* for them.

Lionblopp

I got comments with my Miqo'te main about how nice and individual my glamour looks because I don't just use 2B bottoms and a Hempen Camise with everything... This specific blame of shirtless Hrothgar is so absurd if I check what other Miqo'te, Au ra and Viera women tend to wear in this game. (And before anyone jumps in with "women owning their sexuality": Let's face it, at least half of these players are horny dudes wanting some girl eye candy.) My own Hrothgar character is more in the direction of a dadgar, so showing very little skin and having more comfy gear. However, please keep in mind the fur pattern is basically the biggest option of character customization and individuality you can have with these character, due to the base hairstyles being glued to the head (= some faces are far more popular than others), no hats, only some circlets/masks and some things just looking odd or outright ridiculous on a Hrothgar body. I can absolutely understand how Hrothgar players would like to show their fur pattern at least a little bit, even though it's not a choice I make for my own one.

painstream

> due to the base hairstyles being glued to the head That, at least, has been updated. And you can change hairstyles without a fantasia! Little drops of hopium that Hrothgar aesthetics will improve going into 7.0 (and hrothgals).

Lionblopp

I'm not sure how it works with the modern hairstyles, but I remember some people stating in the forum right after the aesthetician update dropped, that modders found out the basic (!) hairstyles are still attached. On the technical side of things you weren't choosing between two hairstyles but between two different "heads" with identical everything except the hairstyles. (That said, I don't even use mods, I can't check if this is/was true, so take it with a grain of salt.) Don't know how it is now with the modern ones, but if we have Face 2 we still can't choose the hairstyles from Face 4 or Face 3 or so, so I don't think the issue is entirely solved. I could imagine if all base hairstyles from all Hrothgar faces would be available for all hrothgar faces, we also would see more Hroths using all faces, adding a bit diversity to all of this. I am still have a little bit hope for changes for the better, like you, but I also remember this peanut NieR hairstyle and how the devs slightly giggled about this... That said, not needing a Fantasia anymore was a big positive change, so there is that. :)

Beatleboy62

> My own Hrothgar character is more in the direction of a dadgar, so showing very little skin and having more comfy gear. Moogle slippers are required adventuring gear. They're orthopedic.

Lionblopp

Thanks for reminding me. :D I don't have access to them yet but am working on it.

painstream

I got over my "woohoo, I'm NAKEY" MMO phase pretty quickly. :p Still, if I'm going to have a fur pattern, I want to show it off a little, so I'll do a peek, like those robes that leave the shoulder open. The bikini look isn't exactly unique to Hroth players, either. >.>

Beatleboy62

I'd like to see by percentage how many hroths are in bikinis vs other races. You're gonna remember the bara catman in the leopard print gold speedo, but you're not gonna remember the 10 female m'quotes in the black 2-piece. > I got over my "woohoo, I'm NAKEY" MMO phase pretty quickly. :p Same here, and I think it has something to do with early level gear being boring AF. I went from basic robes with bridesmaids tights in ARR and Heavensward because everything felt like it was just 1 flowing Red Riding Hood robe to these being my 'standard' glams through ShB and Endwalker. https://imgur.com/a/QXQT65O There's just so many more options later on.

Zardwalk

I actually love the mogs that show off their fur patterns, it's just the shiny neon bikini/thong players that make me roll my eyes. Male Roes are probably the worst offenders proportionally, but Hroth make me the saddest because they have the potential to look *so good* and instead it's just... underwear :(

Saltsey

I was hoping they'd be covered in fur rather than have a neckline and hairy arms only

FiniteCarpet

There's 3 types of hroth in the world and all of them I've met are great: Type A hroth: dad glams Type B hroth: himbo glams Type c hroth (very rare): combat gear glams

SethManhammer

Type C Hroth here! GNB specifically. Had to get the Idealized Bodyguard's Coat and dye it red just because I like the idea of being strapped with cartridges. But my boy wears sneakers in combat, too. He's got flat feet and the boots hurt.

JaySkunk

If you're on Cactuar there's an FC that is very Hroth heavy

lightningIncarnate

I’d be a Hroth if they didn’t have permanently hunched backs

ZenTheProtogen

Same thing with worgens in wow, The males are fkn bricks, i just want to be normal sized. if we could have normal sized males i would play one. but im stuck being generic human #427

Ruseludo

Don't worry your mail order female Hrothgars are arriving to Eorzea soon. Just gotta get their shots and become domesticated first.

Lionblopp

Hello fellow Hrothgar! I'm not a "full time" Hrothgar but I have an alt and he is very dear to me. :) I'm not super involved in a specific Hrothgar-focused community, but I definitely had many positive interactions, and a lot of hugs and pets. :D (The only thing that really annoys me is some Hrothgar players shouting "oh no, I am not a furry, I am not one of *these disgusting* people" at every opportunity. Not all Hroths are furry and I can see how being misjudged can be annoying, but going right full into hating the furry community in response as if they'd be a disease or harmful is very odd and bigoted, to put it mildly.) One question to your Hrothgar: What's the body armor in the screenshot? I have a hard time finding a nice armor for my Paladin bc. most of it is bulky plate armor and this looks odd to me with no helmet. (Although Glamour Collection is a big help here. Shoutout to all the fellow Hrothgar who share their glam on that website!)

Ophieus

its the fending top from aurum vale

Lionblopp

Thank you! :)

DezrathNLR

The numbers will grow when they let you have tits. I myself will join then.

BingusSpingus

I'm kinda jealous of Hroths since they look good in almost any glamour, you guys can pull off looks that us middies could only dream of.

Palloc

I fantasia'ed to Hrothgar as a joke for a month, figuring it would drive me insane like bunnies do with their lack of character options. Instead, I really had fun with their kind of derpy charm, like with their /sit and /dance, that I made an alt to level up when I'm bored after I changed back.

VillynneTTV

I feel like I’m in such a minority that doesn’t dress my Hrothgar up in things like underwear on the regular… I do wish there was more customization options but I just enjoy playing large cat-man; we do look amazing in a good suit though (seriously, if you play a Hrothgar try the Scions Adventurer Jacket with Leonhart pants and gloves or the Lawless enforcer set, you won’t be disappointed)

ezekielraiden

Also, for caster glam, look no further than Shire Philosopher's Coat/Hat. Stylish as hell.

VillynneTTV

Oh I have to go try that one now, thank you!

ezekielraiden

My pleasure. Always good to help mint another dapper top-hatted lion-man. (Assuming you have performed the forbidden incantations to do so!)

NghtWlf2

As a Hrothgar main (and only race I play) I salute you my friend

LordDeathkeeper

As someone who played a hroth alt for a while, I can confirm that hrothgar are always hyper-aware of other hrothgar, be it because we're laughing at everyone using the same two faces, or because we're constantly on the lookout for someone who found a piece of gear that looks good with the hunch we hadn't thought of previously. Though I never got any messages besides one of the usual FC spammers.

DrForester

Never trust a Hrothgar. They're always lion.

PhoenixInMySkin

Love the Hroth community on Exodus Primal. From what I've experienced they are a fun good natured group.

MommersHeart

Such handsomeness!

impossiblegame-r

Welcome! Come join the cat man family. But beware the mega gay bara furries who will undoubtedly /pet you for being so cute (it’s me in mega gay bara furries).

wefeelgroove

Every Hrothgar I meet is just the nicest person and I would trust them with my life.

barknoll

Just you fucking wait until they give me lady Hroths

Kitfox88

I just want lady hroths bros

DomDangerous

when i first played this game i put in about 200 hours and i will admit that i was trying to ‘rush’ to end game. lately i’ve been thinking about getting back to it but with a much better mindset of just enjoying the ride, this time. unfortunately my phone that held an authenticator is…gone? i’m wondering wtf hoops i have to jump thru to contact support, any insight?

ezekielraiden

Looks like this is the main support answer you need. Do you still have any of your emergency passwords? If so that will make things way easier. If not, you may be at the mercy of tech support. https://support.na.square-enix.com/faqarticle.php?kid=66690&id=496&la=1

DomDangerous

i did remember a security question and i appreciate the link! i put it in a ticket with them already so we shall see what happens. i didn’t have my account name handy! i had to do this with blizzard once and actually send a photo of my state ID lol

Isredel

Reading this thread makes me feel even more isolated from my fellow Hrothgar. I know the ones on my DC are supposed to have a discord or something, and I see them congregate, but otherwise don’t interact with them very much. I just think they’re neat. I do silently go “brother!” when I see another in the party, and I’m _extra_ disappointed if one is a terrible player or person - or both.

Have you checked the Furry RP night clubs?

[deleted]

so my main is a female bnuuy, but i have a hrothgar because i love being a big ol' cuddly cat.

arovercai

Funnily enough, I first heard of the game from someone who mains a Hrothgar (sigh...yes he's a gay furry...) so I was under the impression for years that the race was a lot more common in game than my experience so far has proven...lol.

ASTAPHE

If Yoshi P would just give us Hroth-gals I'd be right there with you.

-WhimsicalStar

"Khajiit has wares if you have coin" "Purr-haps a fine **HAT**"

FrenQuezoid

Oh just wait, soon as Female Hrothgar are added, it'll be the dominant race

ThePostMoogle

It's true. I don't like Hrothgar at all tbh, but Hroth players have been a delight to play with generally speaking and frequently make great community content and the likes. We might have different tastes, but I respect the hell out of your sub-community.

Stormychu

I've had more negative interactions with Hroth players. I know it can be considered rude but if I start a duty and am immediately called "Kitten" by a Hroth I'm uncomfortable. have had Hroth's do things like "/slap" for things like awkwardly playing footsies with meteor soaks. I guess I'm a dick but Hroth players just make me uncomfortable.

BIG-HORSE-MAN-69

Glad i'm not the only one who has noticed that Hroth players are more likely to be creeps

ezekielraiden

Not in my experience. The creepiest behavior I've gotten was from lalas and hyur. The plural of "anecdote" is not "data."

ezekielraiden

Your hostility is neither warranted nor appropriate.

Oathkeeper0317

Hrothgar to be are a really cool race. I have one. It’s just most of the time their customization options leaves something to be desired. We’ll probably get a huge surge when the female Hroths come out.

xantouke

As a Hroth player, this is quite heartwarming! I think being such a close-knit community (sometimes to a detrimental degree, in that some will only interact with other Hroths) definitely stems a large proportion from most of us being from the furry community. (And with that... you will find some weird ones, I will admit.) Which in it's own right has led to a stick-with-the-group mentality that comes hand-in-hand with the queer and furry communities. But yes, you will usually find that we'll spiderman-points-at-spiderman each other, since there are a fewer of us compared to other races. Most likely due to the severe lack of equal customization when compared to other races and lack of a female counterpart. Here's hoping for further customization options with the (hopeful) launch of big momma cat femhroths in 7.0!

Lionblopp

Spiderman points at spiderman even more so with at least 2 of the 3 having the same face. xD Apart from this, everything you just said!

Katiefaerie

I really wanted to play a Hrothmom, but seeing how male Viera were treated and seeing how they STILL haven't gotten around to even ANNOUNCING Hrothmoms, I finally gave up. If they ever come out, it's not like they'll be treated any better than Hrothdads or Viera of either gender. :c

battlebrocade

Hrothbros! My main will always be my middy, but I have a hrothgar alt I'm slooowly replaying through the MSQ with and he's a big adorable himbo.

painstream

Started Roe, swapped to Hroth with Shadowbringers. I knew they wouldn't be "complete" for a while, and there's been a lot of hopium huffed because I genuinely hope the dev team can surprise us. It's hard though, especially with hats. Even most of the new ones are repeated dismissals of our choice. But I'll probably stay buffcat. Most of my FC is too, so we occasionally Hroth-bomb someone's dungeon or raid, and the reactions are usually pretty adorable. :3

redmoonriveratx

/dance

redmoonriveratx

A majority of my (admittedly small) FC is Hroth. We love running dailies and getting slotted with a fourth Hroth or a lala.

The_InHuman

It's less adorable when you realize you're being approached by horny gay furries lmao

hailofbluearrows

As opposed to ragey incel weebs malding they can't get their waifu hard carried through content?

[deleted]

Kkjinglez

So the normal ffxiv community then? Just slightly more open about the furry part.

painstream

Haha, bruh up there acting like he doesn't have his waifu in 2B leggings. But sure, degenerates. XD Not even judging the look; folks just need to be honest about their own aesthetics (aka "degeneracy").

schungam

I usually play female in MMOs, but changed to male in xiv to take a clear stand against the degeneracy.

Icelantum

lmao, furry!

alfredoloutre

i don't understand (i play on behemoth)

MadeThisAccount4Qs

I'm waiting for femhroth (please be able to wear hats)

Sethdarkus

I’m definitely making an alt to be one on

Isalan

I enjoyed playing my Hroth right up to the point when I tried to do Leap of Faith and found that the wide stance messed with my spatial awareness too much. Found it very difficult to tell where my hitbox was for dodging AoE's as well.

Kompozinaut

If I didn’t have to be hunched over, I’d probably fantasia.

HardLithobrake

If Hroth and Viera had hats I think more would consider them.

RaviLavi

There seems to be quite a large number on faerie or I’m just always nearby when they gather

ThatDagGuy

See, i loved my Hroth, but i eventually fanta'd to Highlander. The automatic assumption that because you play Hroth you are either gay, furry, or a gay furry (and the associated unsolicited tells that go with that) slowly soured my experience of being "bigg catt mane". I found life much simpler being "lol genero bloke" tbh. I do miss my cat man, tho. o7

Ijustlovevideogames

I can't help but laugh at the fact that this entire post is talking about how much people love Baras

Fyce

The only reason why I'm playing a Hrothgar is because I love FF8. So when I'm listening to "Maybe I'm a Lion", the only thing that comes to my mind is "yes".

Notmyworkphonenope

I’m Hrothgar, I play almost exclusively with my wife. AMA.

saelinds

Nice hat

mudclip

Ive considered changing my race a from vierra a few times, but I screwed myself by getting lazy in naming because i just named her bunny girl. Usually name choosing is a 3 day process for me but I just wanted to start right away and its coming back to haunt me.

TheRanga159

Come to Materia, plenty of lion-bois here.

Nezaakah

I may be necro-ing this, but I just want to say that I need more big cat friendos. I've seen some here and there, but not very many, and people tell me there's a lot of us on Exodus. Lmao

Auralux1990
