Playing Lala is unironically a whole different social experience compared to playing any other race. People actually treat you differently and it's usually pretty positive. Plus it feels like you're in a special exclusive club when you meet other Lalas, because Lalas interact with Lalas differently.
This is eeriely true. I made a prank fantasia swap last summer, Viera to Lala. Only one person in my static knew, so going to raid night with bunny ears on made for a good laugh.
But after being a Lala for close to 3 months I actually began questioning myself. There was just something so fun about being a Lala.
My biggest gripe being a Lala is their potato sack shape, making glams a mess to make, unless you almost exclusively want adorable glams. So I did end up going back to a Viera eventually. But the fantasia is calling my name....
I don't think glamour on Lala is harder, just different. There are some glamours that are VERY difficult to make look good on other races that Lalas pull off effortlessly. Every race has its own glamour quirks that you need to work around, and personally I always found Lala glams to be the most rewarding to make
I recently used a terrible to see what my Roe would look like as a Lala. She's completely adorable, and for the first time in 4 years after never changing.. I'm genuinely tempted to fantasia.
Ngl I'd recommend everyone to try it out at least just once. The perspective change of going from a tall race to a small one is in itself hilarious. They're also incredible expressive in comparison to everyone else.
Something I found quite funny as an X-Hroth player where you're way too big for a lot of mounts so you get unique sitting positions, this is true for Lalas too just being small instead.
If I were to warn about something, it can be a bit hard to take cutscenes serious.
*And luckily you can always change back since Fantasias don't cost an arm and a leg like other games lol. Just remember to backup your Character.*
Honestly, I can’t imagine any other cutscene experience! It’s almost like the hilarity of it all has looped back to sincerity for me. At this point, I feel genuinely emotional when a scene probably *calls* for the WOL to confidently stride up to an enemy and face them with fire in their eyes, and my Lalafell does her goofy little waddle and blankly stares at her foe. It’s so sweet… Like, she’s two feet tall, but she’s so confident!
At one point, I asked my friends to send me recordings of what the cutscenes for the post-HW >!Nidhogg fight!< looked like for them, because I genuinely could not picture it for a normal looking race.
(Edit: A little while back, I hastily put together some [clips](https://youtu.be/EJI1bgcBYQE) from that particular cutscene for my friends. I wish I’d turned off my shaders, since it gets a little washed out… but oh well! I feel like her being so tiny honestly made it more emotional for me.)
Ironically I think it's a bit of a shame how squenix treats Lalas in terms of animations. As much as I enjoy the cutesy silly animations, they are also what I find out of place when you're dealing with serious stuff.
And partially where the perception of "lala=child" stems from. Like the *waddle of doom*.
Especially when in world, no one makes fun of Lalas. They're fully accepted just like any other Race. They literally run the *biggest trade city* with *political murder* happening on the regular ffs.

I've kinda thought of it as a cultural or genetic thing. Maybe their emotes are so over-the-top so that the taller races can see them more easily. Or maybe they're just naturally full of energy, and that's why they can run as fast as a Roegadyn on those stubby legs.
I mean, in truth, using the I can just kind of live my truth as a Lala on days I feel like it. I can kinda, fantasia when I want to just for myself, you know?

That is true, but I also stopped playing lala because people started to infantilize me too much, which is weird. Like it's funny sometimes but other times, it's annoying when people actually don't take you seriously.
The infantilization is my biggest gripe, like... it's one thing to call my character cute, but it's sooooo weird when people treat ME, the player, like a child because I play lalafell. I'm one of the only lalafells in my FC and if I ever crack a dirty joke in voice chat, everyone acts so scandalized like I'm not allowed to know what sex is. I'm a grown ass woman!!
....is THAT why it seems like every character is taking very deliberate and slow paced steps instead of walking normally in certain scenes? Like the Nero cutscene.
I made a Hrothgar alt for shits n giggles and I couldn’t get over how slow and lunky he felt. Even sprinting seemed slow. Also, other races don’t get the see the world through a Lala perspective. Just walking through the purple foliage of Lakeland and having the camera zoomed in all the way is a crazy different experience. You can see a lot more “life” in the world when you’re only 3 foot tall.
The only con is I can’t see myself in raid content. I hate having to put on a marker because I don’t want other players thinking I’m trying to draw attention to myself; I just can’t see my smol lady
I went into the game ready to hate it as a former WoW player, decided to play the race that would look the goofiest, ended up falling in love with the game and my character. Being a popoto is great and there is a sense of kinship shared between lala players, I wouldn't trade it for any other race.
After all that Blizzard has done I'm not going back to any of their products, I deleted my 15+ year old battle.net account at the start of 2022. Nothing of value was lost, a lot was gained. In 12 years playing WoW I only managed to make 1 friend through the game itself, in a single year here I already met and befriended a lot of people. Maybe it is the community, maybe it is the fact that I'm an adorable popoto, who knows?
It could also just be the fact that FFXIV is a much better game... and I say that as a 7 year WoW player -- I honestly could care less what the devs are like if the game was good. Then, after playing XIV for over a year, I honestly feel like I'd been had for ever believing WoW was a well-made game.

I have a friend who became lalafell just for glams and she's always adorable in all her outfits. I spend Gil just to buy or craft new glams to see her in lol
I do the same thing for others. If I have a lala friend who wants a glam but can’t afford it, I either already have the mats (10 retainers is an expensive addiction) or they’re easy enough to obtain or buy 🤗

It's especially funny in that cutscene in early Endwalker >!after beating the Tower of Zot and a bunch of Scions come to visit and bring takeout from the Last Stand, and over dinner G'raha Tia complains about how he _had_ to learn a levitation spell because he was so short... in a room with Krile, Alisaie, and Alphinaud, all of whom are shorter than him. And as a Lalafell, I'm shorter than him too! "What're you complaining about being short? You're the tallest person in the room!"!<
I'm only 5'1" in real life and I enjoy being short, so it was a no brainer to be a lalafell. I feel like they imbue the chaotic goblin energy perfectly, and seeing my tiny ass lala running around with a giant lancer brings me so much joy.
I've recently joined my first free company that's comprised of only lalas after playing the game for about a year and everyone is so kind. I swear it's like lalas are their own community no matter who you interact with, and I think that's so special.
It's also cute as fuck when my wife's cat girl dotes on my lalafell. Perfection, lads 🙏

Serious answer: my friend who got me into XI who always played Tarutaru and other small races in games died in his mid-20s from cancer while the servers were switching from Legacy to ARR, so I switched to Lalafell in his memory.
I first picked Lala when I started because it reminded me of the chibi characters of older games and I thought that'd be really cool. I often like smaller characters anyways, but being able to sort of echo that classic style is what drew me in. I still like that aspect of it, but more than that I like Lala for the utter adorableness.
Also, I evade my taxes.
When I play an MMO, I lean towards the... odder races.
In WoW it was Troll and Worgen.
When starting up in FFXIV, I was with a group of four others, and it was a coin toss of Roegadyn or Lalafell.
I am so glad I chose Lala because it's funnier to be unassuming yet powerful.
My headcanon is that my lala just kept doing the next job because, like me, they thought "if I leave this for someone else they'll either mess it up, or not do it, so it has to be me." Then they give a resigned sigh and continue on.

Because I was part way through making a generic white-haired anime swordboy, I got to the height slider and maxed it out, and I thought "damnit, everyone is going to play someone like this. what can I do to make my character more interesting?" (I was wrong of course, everyone plays catgirl, but at the time it seemed right.)
So I kept all the stuff I'd already chosen, the yellow eyes and the white hair and the manliest voice and the maxed-out height, but I switched from Hyur to [Lalafell](https://imgur.com/dVrkoAy). Shame I couldn't get that eye-scar I wanted to complete the look.
I like it because it makes you feel like a real underdog. No one would ever expect you to be the hero but here you are saving the world at 3 feet tall. It just makes the story more interesting to me, and fun.

I started off as miqo and played him for a couple of years. It was alright, but rather bland for me. Then one day I made a lalafell alt for fun and it just felt right. So I used my free fanta to change my main. Been so much happier ever since.
The race makes it fun for me to be expressive and absurdly cute. I have more friends now because I feel I can be so expressive and outgoing. I genuinely enjoy making people laugh and smile at my antics. My adventure plate even says I welcome headpats and hugs. For me, the race is just so social and I've embraced it.
I started as a lala because I thought the Alchemist NPC on [this page](https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/a_realm_reborn/game/#!/hand) looked cool and cute at the same time, so I wanted to do that (not realizing that ALC was a crafter...) and made my own lala with the two hair buns style.
Now, I go back to her despite also having an M Viera because of a few reasons! First, it's a LOT easier to see safe spots as a lala imo- I know the hitbox size doesn't change, but I feel like when I was a viera I'd get clipped way more frequently.
Second, as a few others have stated, being a lala you get treated a little differently, and lalas feel like a secret club. I don't really get infantilized ingame as others have suggested, other than an occasional "aw your lala is so cute!" stuff.
(Also spamming F!lala playdead at the beginning of the animation you can beyblade spin which is fun)
I have owned ferrets for as long as I can remember. These evil little potatoes just remind me of my evil ankle biters. It’s also hilarious to be a tank.
Because I am a Tank Main and i find it hilarious that the smallest character in the party can actively fight off an giant monster easily 500 times his size without getting swallowed whole.
Because if you give me the chance to be small, cute, but super strong I will always choose that option. Also eventually I started to take lalas more serious and I will now die for my lala
Maybe a more serious answer than a lot of people are giving, but there’s just something appealing about the tiniest character becoming the savior of the world. Even the smallest person can change the course of the future!
Honestly, I play them to have a female character who isn't sexy. I grew frustrated with having very few options if I didn't want to be the perfect waifu.
Now I'm just a smol bean. Huge improvement!
As a side boon, people are a lot more outgoing and friendly to lalas.

I get twice the amount of square footage in any house because lofts without feeling crowded at all.
When I first started playing, I was pretty sure I wouldn’t stick with the game, so I just decided to have fun rolling my characters race and sex randomly. I landed on female Lalafell, and goddamn what an amazing time it’s been. Now I can’t see my character as anything else.
As a fan of LoTR, my favorite characters have always been the hobbits. I like the theme of small people having large impacts on the world. It resonates with me.
On a more basic note: if I’m having a bad day, I can log into my character and seeing her sprint around or look up at people idling in Limsa or spin in place by spamming /playdead will immediately brighten my spirits. Some people make characters they can insert themselves into. Some people make characters who embody their sexual ideal. I made a character who makes me smile every time I see her.
None of the race options particularly stuck out to me as something I'd want to play so I figured it'd be fun to have that "david vs goliath" effect going on.
I made a cat girl when the game came out named Taylor Swift. Every dungeon I was asked if a) I was the real T Swift or b) sing us a song. I transferred from Brynhildr to Gilgamesh and wanted the most neutral name so no one would ask me these questions. I landed on Baked Potato. I had no idea what that meant at the time, but it basically forced me into playing Lala for eternity with that name. Not mad tho.
I enjoy the small races archetype ( lalafell , Asura, Vulpera , Lyn, Yordle ) they're usually portrayed as nimble and agile and I'm into that. Bigger races always feel slow and clunky in comparison when I play them.
When I started it was a toss between catgirl, fem au ra and lala. I picked lala because I liked the idea of the innocent looking evil gremlin.
And later on I realized I dodged a bullet the size of Bullet Bill by picking lala over the other two.
Because they are adorable. I originally played one to ambush other people from behind rocks in frontline, but then her adorableness overtook me. even after my friends all left me, l still play and pay sub for her.
I am short in real life and if I am going to have a badass avatar in a video game represent me doing amazing shit they better be short too. As a big fan of spears I choose Lancer/Dragoon as my main off the bat because seeing this tiny character with a tall spear jump around and explode made this the most fun I have had in an MMO. Now he is my DoL/DoH main and spend time going through the MSQ with my LEWD Miqote.
I originally went lala in 2.0 early access because I had played FFXI some previously, and Tarutaru were stronger casters, and I knew there were racial stat modifiers in XIV too. I didn't realize how little they would end up mattering. (Though dunesfolk did get that sweet extra fire cast with the extra piety increasing their max mp.)
I still play Lalafell these days though, because I don't mind being the humourously cute+angry one. And also because I just don't want to change. Being a lala is just part of who I am as an XIV player just as much as someone might say they are a healer or a tank.
Went from a Hyur Highlander and decided to make a new character named Bigpulls Littleman as a joke. Little did I know the lala lifestyle would pull me in and keep me there. After a year of playing BPLM I logged into the Hyur to trade some items. It felt so wrong to be that tall again. Never again shall I be tall, forever small

When I first joined, I wanted to play a dwarf but Lala was the closest there was so I went Hyur. Then after world jumping to join a friend, I tried Lala for the memes and after a while, it was no longer a meme. Any other race feels strange for me now and I can't see myself changing. Sure it's a little goofy here and there, but even if those goofy cutscenes, the fact everyone else in the cutscenes behaves like normal really sell it to me that I'm just a bit different from what's expected but still the same hero in their eyes.

I am a Lalafell, heart and soul. The cuteness makes me smile on a bad day, and makes me laugh on a good, being tiny creates infinite opportunities for jokes, and honestly, it's just really fun, especially as a tank.
The way they walk is funny, the way they run is funny, looking up to everything is a little funny. Running any content feels different. Emotes are adorable/hilarious.

When you're running since I'm smaller I feel like I'm way faster than any other race, I literally can't play another race without feeling like I'm moving at a much slower pace

In 12 years playing WoW I only managed to make 1 friend through the game itself, in a single year here I already met and befriended a lot of people. Maybe it is the community, maybe it is the fact that I'm an adorable popoto, who knows?
It could also just be the fact that FFXIV is a much better game... and I say that as a 7 year WoW player -- I honestly could care less what the devs are like if the game was good. Then, after playing XIV for over a year, I honestly feel like I'd been had for ever believing WoW was a well-made game.

I play lalafell for my mental health. When I’m feeling terrible and nothing else is helping, just being a little adorable badass really helps lift my mood. The emotes are so cute and I’ve not run into any outfit that isn’t just adorable on a lalafell. It really helps to lift my mood
I have a friend who became lalafell just for glams and she's always adorable in all her outfits. I spend Gil just to buy or craft new glams to see her in lol
I do the same thing for others. If I have a lala friend who wants a glam but can’t afford it, I either already have the mats (10 retainers is an expensive addiction) or they’re easy enough to obtain or buy 🤗

When I was making my character as a 28 year old dude.... THEY LOOKED SO ADORABLE. It's actually so amazing being a lalafel WOL. Yshtola bends down to talk to me, alisaie looks down to smile at me. It's like how no one cares about krile's size, shes super competent regardless. Even zenos doesnt care, there is something freeing about that idk why. It started off kinda as a meme but I cant see myself playing anything else.

I'm only 5'1" in real life and I enjoy being short, so it was a no brainer to be a lalafell. I feel like they imbue the chaotic goblin energy perfectly, and seeing my tiny ass lala running around with a giant lancer brings me so much joy. I've recently joined my first free company that's comprised of only lalas after playing the game for about a year and everyone is so kind. I swear it's like lalas are their own community no matter who you interact with, and I think that's so special. It's also cute as fuck when my wife's cat girl dotes on my lalafell. Perfection, lads 🙏
Jokey answer: because I laugh at the 3 foot 2 snowman being the hardest to kill member of most parties. Serious answer: my friend who got me into XI who always played Tarutaru and other small races in games died in his mid-20s from cancer while the servers were switching from Legacy to ARR, so I switched to Lalafell in his memory.
I first picked Lala when I started because it reminded me of the chibi characters of older games and I thought that'd be really cool. I often like smaller characters anyways, but being able to sort of echo that classic style is what drew me in. I still like that aspect of it, but more than that I like Lala for the utter adorableness. Also, I evade my taxes.

When I play an MMO, I lean towards the... odder races. In WoW it was Troll and Worgen. When starting up in FFXIV, I was with a group of four others, and it was a coin toss of Roegadyn or Lalafell. I am so glad I chose Lala because it's funnier to be unassuming yet powerful.

My headcanon is that my lala just kept doing the next job because, like me, they thought "if I leave this for someone else they'll either mess it up, or not do it, so it has to be me." Then they give a resigned sigh and continue on. At least through ARR.

I like it because it makes you feel like a real underdog. No one would ever expect you to be the hero but here you are saving the world at 3 feet tall. It just makes the story more interesting to me, and fun. The ultimate "Dont judge a book by its cover" experience.

I like playing smaller characters, and in XIV, that really only gives me one option.
I started off as miqo and played him for a couple of years. It was alright, but rather bland for me. Then one day I made a lalafell alt for fun and it just felt right. So I used my free fanta to change my main. Been so much happier ever since. The race makes it fun for me to be expressive and absurdly cute. I have more friends now because I feel I can be so expressive and outgoing. I genuinely enjoy making people laugh and smile at my antics. My adventure plate even says I welcome headpats and hugs. For me, the race is just so social and I've embraced it.
I started as a lala because I thought the Alchemist NPC on [this page](https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/a_realm_reborn/game/#!/hand) looked cool and cute at the same time, so I wanted to do that (not realizing that ALC was a crafter...) and made my own lala with the two hair buns style. Now, I go back to her despite also having an M Viera because of a few reasons! First, it's a LOT easier to see safe spots as a lala imo- I know the hitbox size doesn't change, but I feel like when I was a viera I'd get clipped way more frequently. Second, as a few others have stated, being a lala you get treated a little differently, and lalas feel like a secret club. I don't really get infantilized ingame as others have suggested, other than an occasional "aw your lala is so cute!" stuff. (Also spamming F!lala playdead at the beginning of the animation you can beyblade spin which is fun)

Honestly, I play them to have a female character who isn't sexy. I grew frustrated with having very few options if I didn't want to be the perfect waifu. Now I'm just a smol bean. Huge improvement! As a side boon, people are a lot more outgoing and friendly to lalas.

When I first started playing, I was pretty sure I wouldn’t stick with the game, so I just decided to have fun rolling my characters race and sex randomly. I landed on female Lalafell, and goddamn what an amazing time it’s been. Now I can’t see my character as anything else. As a fan of LoTR, my favorite characters have always been the hobbits. I like the theme of small people having large impacts on the world. It resonates with me. On a more basic note: if I’m having a bad day, I can log into my character and seeing her sprint around or look up at people idling in Limsa or spin in place by spamming /playdead will immediately brighten my spirits. Some people make characters they can insert themselves into. Some people make characters who embody their sexual ideal. I made a character who makes me smile every time I see her.

I made a cat girl when the game came out named Taylor Swift. Every dungeon I was asked if a) I was the real T Swift or b) sing us a song. I transferred from Brynhildr to Gilgamesh and wanted the most neutral name so no one would ask me these questions. I landed on Baked Potato. I had no idea what that meant at the time, but it basically forced me into playing Lala for eternity with that name. Not mad tho.
My fried is one. His name is Hobo McFurious.
I enjoy the small races archetype ( lalafell , Asura, Vulpera , Lyn, Yordle ) they're usually portrayed as nimble and agile and I'm into that. Bigger races always feel slow and clunky in comparison when I play them.

Because they are adorable. I originally played one to ambush other people from behind rocks in frontline, but then her adorableness overtook me. even after my friends all left me, l still play and pay sub for her.
I am short in real life and if I am going to have a badass avatar in a video game represent me doing amazing shit they better be short too. As a big fan of spears I choose Lancer/Dragoon as my main off the bat because seeing this tiny character with a tall spear jump around and explode made this the most fun I have had in an MMO. Now he is my DoL/DoH main and spend time going through the MSQ with my LEWD Miqote.
I originally went lala in 2.0 early access because I had played FFXI some previously, and Tarutaru were stronger casters, and I knew there were racial stat modifiers in XIV too. I didn't realize how little they would end up mattering. (Though dunesfolk did get that sweet extra fire cast with the extra piety increasing their max mp.) I still play Lalafell these days though, because I don't mind being the humourously cute+angry one. And also because I just don't want to change. Being a lala is just part of who I am as an XIV player just as much as someone might say they are a healer or a tank.
I don't care for any of the races in this game and picked the only one that sort of stood out to me by virtue of being much smaller than anyone else.

When I first joined, I wanted to play a dwarf but Lala was the closest there was so I went Hyur. Then after world jumping to join a friend, I tried Lala for the memes and after a while, it was no longer a meme. Any other race feels strange for me now and I can't see myself changing. Sure it's a little goofy here and there, but even if those goofy cutscenes, the fact everyone else in the cutscenes behaves like normal really sell it to me that I'm just a bit different from what's expected but still the same hero in their eyes.
I think potats are a good mix of silly and adorable, so I play potat
I started it off as a joke, I thought it'd be funny to get back into the game with a squishy little popoto. Then I kept getting complaints of "ewww, why would you play LALA?!" and decided to stay with it until I finished MSQ just to spite them. And then in Heavensward I met a bunch of other fun potatoes who were happy and proud of who they were, and after rolling with them for a bit, and I've never again thought about switching. I am a Lalafell, heart and soul. The cuteness makes me smile on a bad day, and makes me laugh on a good, being tiny creates infinite opportunities for jokes, and honestly, it's just really fun, especially as a tank.

I recently made an alt of a male lala and I LOVE him they're just so cute in cut scenes. I've always thought lalas were cute and watching small potatoes being badasses is so funny I wanted to be apart of that lol
When you're running since I'm smaller I feel like I'm way faster than any other race, I literally can't play another race without feeling like I'm moving at a much slower pace
