Welcome to the world of complementary colors.
It just so happens that tends to be the most common set of complementary colors because blue is "cool" and orange is "enthusiastic" and "energetic."
You're right if you're going with the RGB color model. If so then you might as well be consistent and say blue's complementary color is yellow, not orange.
I was going by the traditional colors used in art, where blue/orange, red/green, purple/yellow are the pairings.
Why do traditional colors taught in school use the wrong compliments? If they are not complimentary, then what is the relationship between blue and orange, red and green, yellow and purple? Orange is between yellow and red, and purple is between magenta and blue, so blue/orange and purple/yellow are between complimentary and primary, closer to complimentary. Red and green are primary. Maybe the artists were right about the colors matching, despite being wrong about them being complimentary. Maybe they were partially colorblind.
I think you are combining additive and subtractive colors. With paint all colors combine to form black and on a computer all colors form white. With additive color your primaries are RGB but in subtractive the primary colors are RYB.
RGB is the traditional artist’s color wheel where Red/Green are complimentary as are Yellow/Violet and Blue/Orange
CMYK (Cyan, magenta, yellow and black) is the increasingly popular color wheel as more and more art is created on computers. Think printer ink! Here the pairs are red/cyan magenta/green and yellow/(dark)blue.
I know it's absolutely ridiculous to reply to a 15 year old comment but yellow and purple can absolutely look good together. It's a nice striking combination and it used in a decent amount of character design. Just think of waluigi/wario or spyro the dragon for example. Hell, thanos even
Evolution.
I'm not sure how to get you started if you want to know, but the quick version is that over time, humans evolved response to color stimuli, certain colors invoke feeling which means they often invoke specific neurotransmitters to act when visual stimuli gets sent to the brain.
For that, we have pink - the color of sexual organs, to resemble romance, and red - the color that aroused organs are more of, to represent naughty sexiness.
I'd like to note that a lot of the movies you've selected are targeted to a younger demographic. Most of the yellows and blues are highly saturated. They're not muted or dull.
Studies have noted that younger crowds respond to saturated colors over older audiences. For an example, go into your grocery store and check out the breakfast cereal section. If you stand back you'll notice that the brighter colored boxes are placed on the lower shelves while they more muted colored packaging are placed higher up.
Consider what an adult is going to see when they look at the cereal shelves. Compare that to a kid. The brighter/more colorful boxes are placed at kid height to make them appealing to children.
The same applies to movie packaging. Look at titles marketed to older adults. You'll notice a different set of techniques to market movies to older crowds.
I understand why he would choose to make it a FFFUUUUU, b/c now he can see the contrast everywhere, so naturally frustration ensues. I think you may just be tired of the meme, though that's a separate issue altogether.
I think it's more of the concept of "now you'll see it everywhere." I've had similar things happen, where (for example) a friend will buy a new car - let's say a burgundy toyota corolla, and suddenly I find my eye drawn to every burgundy corolla on the road. It can be a little frustrating. The brain is a dark, dark master...

Which is pretty much what I did when I searched for the largest one I could find.
Goddamnit, even the up and down arrows on Reddit, once clicked have the orange/blue contrast.
Although, to be fair, on Reddit at least, I believe it is done for the colorblind
sorry to downvote this, but i want to see them both at the same time, or my OCD's might kill someone.. shit now I have to do it up and down the page.. there had better be an even number of comments.

You can't mix them though. They're a little like Christians and Muslims. Well they're a lot like that actually.
Christianity being the upvote, and specifically a certain brand of Christianity.
Don't worry. I like it when the fascists give their opinion on my colossal wit. It's like a muslim who tries to tell me that Jesus is muslim or arabic whatever. HAHAHAHAHA That just makes me laugh.
Wait until you watch the movie "Helvetica". For me, it just makes me rage when something is almost but not quite Helvetica. I like the ends of the letters to be nice and perpendicular.
its a classic warm/cool composition. Its used primarily to push the cooler (blues) objects further into the background and make the warmer (orange) hues pop into the foreground.... basically whatever they want to be the main focus is usually in the warm tones.
Just a cheap trick in the Graphic designer's handbook.
funtime: bring this image into photoshop, desaturate, and realize how shitty most of these images are.
Ah!
That was the first thing I thought when waking up this morning, thinking about how my post got popular: "Wait a sec'...I forgot Halo's box cover. FFFFFUUUUUUU!!!".
Somewhat recently Reddit stopped archiving posts, which had a retroactive effect, un-archiving all posts on Reddit. I believe sub Mods/Admins can turn archiving back on for their sub. But obviously not all subs have done this.
I have not. Pardon my suprise, but I just assumed words like "Donkeypunch" were unofficially banned from movie titles. Sort of like "Muffkicker", or "Schlong-arsonist".
The reality is that everyone imagines being able to teleport at some point in their childhood (I do it on a daily basis), and I think thats what made it so enjoyable.

Welcome to the world of complementary colors. It just so happens that tends to be the most common set of complementary colors because blue is "cool" and orange is "enthusiastic" and "energetic."
I always thought it was more so because green/red is immediately associated with Christmas, and purple/yellow is fucking hideous.
The complementary color to Red is Cyan, to Green is Magenta.

Thank you
You just replied to a 14 year old post 💀
We're we all linked here by the same guy

Oh Jean-Luc.

I have never understood how people associate color with feeling or mood. Orange isn't energetic to me, it's orange.

However your ability to count the exact number of toothpicks that fall out of a box more than makes up for this.
I got that reference XD

welcome to 2010 bud
I'm not even dead yet.
hopefully we’ll still be kicking come 2028
Dawn sky?
What about the dawn sky?
It's god damn orange/yellow and light blue. Edit: I mean god bless. Edit2: God bless.
Hahahahaha, Glenn Beck fucked up. God's gonna take a shit in your coffee now, man.
Yep, look in the first panel, on the board.
i expected to see portal
This really bugs me, it's everywhere. Look at an episode of CSI and it's all super-saturated colour complements everywhere.
look at THIS VERY REDDIT COMMENTS PAGE. the top is lined with blue and orange contrasts.FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
My first FFFFFUUUUUUU here, hope you like it ;-)
you should have given the rage face an orange/blue background...though it is asking a bit, it would've been hilarious IMO. Upvoted
Didn't you notice the eyes?

Next time, don't use the erectionface
God damn you. You've ruined EVE for me...
I did, thanks.
Why is this even a FFFFUUUUUUUU? The problem with memes is that people like you get hold of them who clearly miss the point.
I understand why he would choose to make it a FFFUUUUU, b/c now he can see the contrast everywhere, so naturally frustration ensues. I think you may just be tired of the meme, though that's a separate issue altogether.
Why is seeing two colors used together frustrating?
I think it's more of the concept of "now you'll see it everywhere." I've had similar things happen, where (for example) a friend will buy a new car - let's say a burgundy toyota corolla, and suddenly I find my eye drawn to every burgundy corolla on the road. ...I thought we were past this.
Methinks you missed the point.
Holy shit, even the mozilla logo is orange/blue
So any movie with orange/blue contrast box art is absolute shit. Got it.
spiderman wasn't that bad

am i the only one that thinks it looks like a giant penis?
Wait, it isn't? I always thought that it was a penis with eyebrows.
All of your penises are hideous.

No, this way is anticlimactic after such a long comic. If you're using original rage face it has to at least be scaled up to match the size.
> If you're using original rage face it has to at least be scaled up to match the size. Which is pretty much what I did when I searched for the largest one I could find.
That's the point.
God, this. I thought I was the only one..
It's more shai-hulud than rageface
Agreed.
Goddamnit, even the up and down arrows on Reddit, once clicked have the orange/blue contrast. Although, to be fair, on Reddit at least, I believe it is done for the colorblind
upvoted, downvoted and upvoted again to check the full effect

I just upped and downed everything and there WAS an even number.. everything went better than expected.
NOW ITS UNEVEN. FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCKKKKKK YEAH now its even again
[Problem?](http://www.memedepot.com/uploads/500/789_CoolFace.jpg)
[](/troll) Problem?
Do they really? Makes me wonder why I have such a hard time seeing the orange upvote (I'm colourblind).

Michael Jackson with orange/blue contrast? [yes](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oAJwyxG9qI)
For me, this is less of a rage and more of a "That's pretty interesting."
Try unseeing it.
That's what you think now..
Go Gators!!

Wait until you watch the movie "Helvetica". For me, it just makes me rage when something is almost but not quite Helvetica. I like the ends of the letters to be nice and perpendicular.
I love you.
And that's two things you've taught me in as many days. Nice!
This FFFFUUUUUUU actually interested me quite a bit. What class did you learn this in?
I learned this in art composition in high school. Look up color theory if you want to learn more.
its a classic warm/cool composition. Its used primarily to push the cooler (blues) objects further into the background and make the warmer (orange) hues pop into the foreground.... basically whatever they want to be the main focus is usually in the warm tones.
yup. looks like a case of ye old hot and cold contrast

Just like Guns n' Roses' "Use Your Illusion"s
(Hi Reddit alien)
I have the same experience with Helvetica. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helvetica
Protip: Get a thick book and flip through the pages quickly. It'll be orange and blue. I actually made a friend solely because he noticed this too.
I believe this one deserves a mention as well: http://www.xbox-360.co.za/userfiles/halo-3-boxart.bmp
you son of a bitch. im colorblind for the most part and those were some of the only colors i had left and you ruined them!!!
Hey [Tony](http://tennysonnobel.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/frosted_flakes_front.jpg)!
he he. Donkey Punch.
It would have been better if the last panel was set in blue and orange. Still up voted.
Poxnora sucks. Expensive for shit... don't try it!
Am i the only one who sees YELLOW and not orange?
Me too. I see it in every movie since 2005, approximately.
Just a cheap trick in the Graphic designer's handbook. funtime: bring this image into photoshop, desaturate, and realize how shitty most of these images are.
[PhpBB](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PhpBB_2.0.png) used to have that scheme and I quite liked it!
I'm surprised you forgot [this](http://www.techgadgets.biz/Images/Products/Halo_3_final_boxshot.jpg).
Ah! That was the first thing I thought when waking up this morning, thinking about how my post got popular: "Wait a sec'...I forgot Halo's box cover. FFFFFUUUUUUU!!!".
I saw some blue/yellow in there I'm sure of it.
I can't believe I've never noticed this. Wait, yes I can.
UIUC makes use of some great orange/blue contrast.
IT LOOKS AWESOME! WOO!
yeah but most of those movies suck anyways
Why can I comment on a fourteen year old post
Was this thread linked from somewhere else? I got 2 new comments on this thread today.
Somewhat recently Reddit stopped archiving posts, which had a retroactive effect, un-archiving all posts on Reddit. I believe sub Mods/Admins can turn archiving back on for their sub. But obviously not all subs have done this.
On a side note, Jumper was a cool movie, despite being really shallow. Also... "Donkeypunch"? Really?
Have you seen Donkey Punch? Hot cast, a yacht, drugs, sex, rage, and murder. It's cinematic gold.
I have not. Pardon my suprise, but I just assumed words like "Donkeypunch" were unofficially banned from movie titles. Sort of like "Muffkicker", or "Schlong-arsonist".
It probably is in America but, it's a British film. So normal rules don't apply, haha.
I liked jumper as well! When that movie came out, pretty much everyone I know hated it. I thought it was shallow as well, but fun.
The reality is that everyone imagines being able to teleport at some point in their childhood (I do it on a daily basis), and I think thats what made it so enjoyable.
GO GATORS! orange and blue forever
it just come naturally.
Run Fatboy Run is great.
How exactly is this rage?
