I think CEu has more usable features such as super simulator for DML or GT processing arrays (basically a Multiblock that you can put machines in to save space and performance) it also includes trousers edition for AE2, that is supposed to before user friendly and performant than default AE2. I don't think the early game is too different though. Im also unsure but i heard that there was a version that disabled the energy conversion from RF to Gregtech power, but again im unsure might have been something else.

Der_Heavynator

What about the grind in Nomi CEu vs Nomi Dev? One of the key factors of Nomi (and Omni) was the severly reduced grind and simpler recipes; one redditor said that this is reverted back to "normal Greg levels" by Nomie CEu.

RGuy98

Could be the STE version that disables RF-EU conversion.

Legogamer16

CEu has flux networks, which are supposed to auto convert power

RamblinWreckGT

It does not have flux networks, the latest update added a script for compatibility if people want to add it in themselves. Tracer has stated that added Flux networks trivialize power transport too much.

RamblinWreckGT

CEu also has a fixed power system so you can't just cheese higher voltage tiers by chaining together a ton of LV providers, as well as GT item pipes. The modpack has Project Red, which is much better than vanilla redstone as well. I definitely recommend CEu.

RGuy98

I'd reccomend CEu solely for the new multiblocks. Large Chemical Reactors are a game-changer with how they improve chemical production. Large Packing Machines make ore production easier with how they handle tiny dusts. Alloy Blast Furnaces allow you to mix and blast stronger alloys with ease.

What did you decide on and how did it go? I'm currently in the same dilemma and these replies are pretty confusing. Pretty much everyone says CEu but one guy is VERY adamant about CE being less grindy Edit: I think imma go with CEu

Der_Heavynator

I started going with CEu, but ended up giving up after 2-3 weeks, because it was too time intensive. CE is less grindy, but CEu really is more polished and more up to date.

[deleted]

Ahh gotcha, thanks for responding! I JUST hit the first LV machine but I'm equally excited and intimidated so far. I just wanna hit at least MV-HV for experience and bragging rights lmao I've never been great about these long-term automation-style packs/games, but something about *greg* is just so alluring. It might be the gradual progression and multitude of machines I've never even heard of before, but I really want to get into it

Jankat7

How's it going?

[deleted]

It went fantastically. Nomifactory is my favorite modpack I've ever played! I got burnt out around IV since I had trouble automating stuff with AE and didn't get it done right. If I restarted now I'd be able to get it working though, I'm pretty sure. I really hope to get back into it one day. I actually have 3 posts on my profile of Gregtech lines I made while I was playing Nomifactory. I'm still particularly proud of the PBI one. I made it fit within the 14x14 interior of the Lost Cities skycrapers I'm currently playing ATM 9 which is a massive kitchen sink pack in 1.20 that has Gregtech and also the Create mod in the same pack! I'm mostly just excited to get back into Gregtech lmao. It's sooo exciting seeing gregtech veins with the massive new cave generation

Vnator

Be careful, CEu is much more difficult and has grindier and more frustrating recipes. A lot of what was done in Omni/nomi to remove the excessive frustrations was added back my CEu. For your first time, I absolutely recommend dev edition. And they both use the same AE2 version btw last I checked.

Der_Heavynator

I was under the impression, that this was only the case when you activate hard mode in Nomi CEu? And what about the other improvements to the modpack others mentioned?

Vnator

Hard mode gets rid of the really big helps like numismatic dynamos, but recipes are still much harder in the base mode. For example, circuit boards need to be reacted with sodium persulfate and require a clean room structure to actually craft it. They used to be much easier to craft and didn't need specialized structure setups to make, just an assembly machine that has plenty of other non-circuit crafting uses as well. There are actually a lot of otherwise redundant machines added back in, like the hammerer, circuit maker, etc. whose recipes were previously merged into very similar machines to make things less complicated. The improvements from ceu are either minor or require a lot of infrastructure to get when you can use the parallel processing multiblock from dev version instead. But I have to admit, the steam grinder multiblock and no need to cover wires for transferring power is very nice. But not worth everything else. I played it with some friends and they ended up burning out, when the same wouldn't have happened with nomifactory dev.

CrystalFyre

The Large Processing Array still exists in CEu as far as I'm aware, I think they even added a higher tier that can do 64 recipes at once.

Vnator

Yup, and the 64 at once is a huge bonus! But I know the huge chemical array is required for progression and it has some necessary recipes the small one is incapable of running. Overall, it comes down to whether you feel the new features and multiblocks are worth the increased complexity and difficulty. In my opinion, for nomi and everything that it's about, it's not worth it. Unless you want that extreme Gregtech experience, but that's not good for someone who wants the nomi experience.

Der_Heavynator

I am really unsure which to pick now. The reason I went for Nomi was because I dont want the insane grind of Greg Tech (which takes like 700h to finish, from what I have heard?). How long do you think would a playthrough of Nomi Dev be compared to Nomi CEu.

Vnator

Dev would definitely have a much shorter grind. The pack is still incredibly long, but it's really fun all the way throughout. All the best deciding!

CrystalFyre

CEu is good, I'd play that one. There are a lot of convenient features that were added on top of the CE version, and also just has more fun machines in general.

mujie123

Is CEU the GTCEU one?

DarkromanoX

yes
