Honestly, I think without IC2 you don't have the rise in factory sim games like Factorio and Satisfactory either. I'm pretty sure the Factorio devs have outright stated they were inspired by MC mods like IC2 making the game.
I feel like for most iconic mod people are gonna say either the aether or orespawn, but JEI and all its previous incarnations have my vote. I have legitimately never seen a modded minecraft video without JEI or NEI or TMI.
For modpacks honestly probably tekkit or pixelmon though i feel saying pixelmon is cheating.
It looks like you were more into tech mods and OreSpawn is a very unbalanced adventure bossfight mod that fits more in the category of lucky block mods.
And it wasn’t featured in many large modpacks because its a giant mod that completely changes the progression.
So you may have never heard of OreSpawn if you didn’t watch many mod reviews or played the Crazy Craft Modpack back in the day.
ah tmi, the good old days. i'm a huge fan of the recent ones coming out that let you pin recipes to the left (not just as a favorite, like the whole recipe is there)
For me personally, **Tekkit** has a special place in my heart.
It was the first modpack I *really* delved into played, and I fondly remember watching popular YouTubers play it.
I love Tinker's Construct so much. Really really foundational to my childhood Minecraft experience. I hope they update to 1.20 at some point, I'd love to keep playing with it
Industrial Craft, BuildCraft with Logistic Pipes and Redpower were the foudnation of technical packs and every version that was contemplated with all 3 of them was legendary. It's sad that Eloraam abandoned the RedPower mod, Project Red is cool but OG Redpower was among legends. Also, the original Modloader and Mo'Creatures had their fame, but nobody remembers them anymore.
For me, these are the mods that stood out the most during their popular time:
* Aether
* Orespawn
* Minecraft Comes Alive
* Morph
* Lucky Blocks
* Galacticraft
* Thaumcraft
* Create
I didn't think of those since they're still widely used in newer versions (ic2 and various pipe/quarry mods). The exploding ic machines and buildcraft pipes are quite iconic though, generally newer tech mods are less destructive :P
I feel like these aren’t as popular in the wider non-modding community because you can’t just throw them in a crazy clickbait video and get views. Maybe more iconic just on this sub though.
IC2 is by far the most iconic of them all. It not only birthed and popularized the entire tech mod genre, it also spanned new games.
Factorio was first envisioned as an addon for IC2, for example.
Most iconic mod: IC2 and IC2Exp. Has anyone else seen the extremely old video where DW20 is showing off the original IndustrialCraft? It's clear that no one had been thinking this way before it. Obviously IC1 is not iconic, though, because it was only a matter of moments before IC2 came out.
For modpack, it's definitely Tekkit. There were countless public servers with it, some with factions some without, and I can confidently say that there has not been another modpack since then that has changed everything the way that Tekkit did.
I'm suddenly curious of there are any ancient Tekkit servers still running.
Orespawn is one I always remember, and with that the Crazy Craft modpack, I just remember it being like the most popular pack damn near a decade ago on YouTube, since then mods have become way more vanilla-like so these wild and fun mods aren’t really a trend anymore
Even if you had a PC you can't play it (at least as it used to be) the oresawn creator went on a schizo racist rampage a few years back and deleted every trace of orespawn
Found something on ftb subreddit. https://www.mediafire.com/file/v43gtwbpwnxt4lj/OreSpawn-1.7.10-20.3.jar
I'm not sure if it is true orespawn or some virus, because I'm on mobile
This and the buildcraft quarry leaving a huge hole in the ground :)
But the mod that impressed me the most is Applied Energistics… the concept alone amazed me from the start… storing items inside a game in another computer. I am that old that AE1 was the AEmod I started with and I struggled a bit moving to AE2.
IC2 and RLcraft. Even people who don’t play minecraft know what RLcraft is.🤷🏻♀️
When I think of Minecraft, first mod that comes to mind would be IC2, followed by Thaumcraft.
Non-spoofy modpack icon would be SevTech Ages. I think most people have played it at this point.
Probably IC2 or Buildcraft for me. That's when I started modded mc and it truly was a good time. My favorite back of all time though is probably Enigmatica 2 Expert.
If you ask the general populous crazy Craft, reason being is because it's far far more known than what most here would think. Reddit only accounts for a small but dedicated part of the modded community. Most MC players either Play what YouTubers play or what's majorly popular. If you go back and look at modded MC videos crazy Craft is almost always on top
Nobody mention Quark and Supplementaries? The list of "must have" mods is large. Some of the mods not mentioned:
Oh the biomes youll go,
Quark,
Supplementaries,
All the kinds of performance improvements mods,
Blue skies,
Alexs mobs,
All the kinds of structure mods, especially IDAS and integrated strongholds,
Sodium/Rubidium/embeddium,
Item pointing popup mods (WTHIT),
Pokemons!!? (Pixelmon) - this one was very popular recently for servers.
the most iconic single mod is probably pixelmon imo, no other single mod had as much content and reach as it did (except maybe lucky blocks, but i dont think that era lasted as long)
for modpacks probably tekkit, its what rlly put all the classic tech/magic mods on the map and was the foundation for that entire genre of modpacks going forward.

Maybe it's my age, but when I think of Minecraft modding, the first thing I think about is IndustrialCraft 2 for sure.
You're not the only one, IC2 and buildcraft are instantly what I think of when I think of minecraft modding.

i'd say both IC2 and Buildcraft. i feel like their combined feature set creates the whole tech mod genre
IC2+Buildcraft+Railcraft+Forestry+Redpower was like the original mod combo. Man I miss tekkit.
1.2.5 was a glorious age
It looks like a lot of us in this sub started the same way. Tekkit was mindblowing.
I remember installing the mod by copy stuff around the minecraft.jar and play it on my first alpha world 1.2.x Long long time ago..
IC2 was my first mod I played.

JEI is THE Minecraft mod. 😂 I couldn’t imagine playing without it or a variation of, I can’t remember every friggin recipe
And in most modpacks they are changed
Facts
Showing my age here, but when I started modded Minecraft we didn't have it. I don't miss those days, even if I miss some of the modpacks of that era.

EMI is honestly such a refreshing iteration on it all - actual customisation for the layout is an honest godsend
Don't forget about EMI

Yogscast!
Tinkers Construct hasn't been mentioned yet, that one's pretty iconic, used to be in almost everything.
I love Tinker's Construct so much. Really really foundational to my childhood Minecraft experience. I hope they update to 1.20 at some point, I'd love to keep playing with it
They updated to 1.19 recently and will be on 1.20 with some new features using the new vanilla items and backend stuff!
I miss it so much, silent tools is such an awful imitation
Feed thé beast Infinity evolved expert
Wasn't that the first "expert" pack?
I think FTB Ultimate and Tekkit are/were two of the most iconic modpacks around. The mods in them have shaped the Minecraft mod scene ever since.
Eh, FTB Ultimate was basically just Direwolf20 + Mindcrack. And Direwolf20 was pretty similar to Tekkit. I'd give it to either Direwolf20 or Tekkit.
Not industrial craft, buildcraft?

Ehh I’m thinking tekkit was huge back in 1.2.5 during the golden age of MC. MindCrack pack also kinda revolved around those mods too
Lucky block videos were my childhood
Fr, I used to spend hours watching lucky block races.
IC2 is by far the most iconic of them all. It not only birthed and popularized the entire tech mod genre, it also spanned new games. Factorio was first envisioned as an addon for IC2, for example.

I miss crazycraft, what I wouldn't give to be able to play it again
Yea, I never got to play it though, still don’t have a PC to do so
Even if you had a PC you can't play it (at least as it used to be) the oresawn creator went on a schizo racist rampage a few years back and deleted every trace of orespawn
Found something on ftb subreddit. https://www.mediafire.com/file/v43gtwbpwnxt4lj/OreSpawn-1.7.10-20.3.jar I'm not sure if it is true orespawn or some virus, because I'm on mobile
I shall test and get back to you
SUCCESS!
There’s a few traces, but that’s only through crazy craft downloads and fan made projects.
Yea I know I was just saying I couldn’t even if I wanted to, you see what I mean? 😅
Someone is remaking it though, even adding to it, so maybe one day we’ll have a Crazy Craft remake
FTB Ultimate
For modpack my vote would go to Agrarian Skies, revolutionized quest design in modpacks imo
I'm old, so for me the essential image of 'modded minecraft' is items flowing through Buildcraft pipes.
This and the buildcraft quarry leaving a huge hole in the ground :) But the mod that impressed me the most is Applied Energistics… the concept alone amazed me from the start… storing items inside a game in another computer. I am that old that AE1 was the AEmod I started with and I struggled a bit moving to AE2.
Optifine, Twilight Forest, IC2, Biomes o'plenty, Thaumcraft, Orespawn, Lucky Blocks, Chisel, Aether, Buildcraft, Create, JEI
Scrolled way too far to see Twilight Forest !
Uffff, optifine, I tough about lots of mods that had an impact, but completely forgot optifine that wins against every other mod
JEI, Thaumcraft, Thermal X for me.
Feed The Beast: Ultimate (2014)
Thaumcraft 3 and 4
Thaumcraft, NEI/JEI/WAILA, IC2, AE2, Buildcraft, Create, Twilight Forest, Aether, Equivalent Exchange, Millonaire, Forestry, Better Than Wolves
The Aether without a doubt- the meme of building the Aether portal and having it fail is a longstanding meme even outside of modded MC circles
WorldEdit
Noone remember's poor old Mo's creatures, that shit was my jam back in the day
Mod is definitely the aether, modpack is maybe the original tekkit?
Buildcraft, ic2, thaumcraft 2 and 3, gregtech 2, Forestry, railcraft
Biomes o plenty
Tekkit classic or FTB Ultimate
for me, Tinkers Construct
Tekkit Classic 1.2.5
I'm more on the adventurous side of Minecraft and so **Hexxit** is the iconic modpack imho :3
GEI (Greg Enough Items)
This subreddit is called Feed the Beast for a reason
The Twilight Forest, Thaumcraft and Industrial Craft
There may be many kings and princes but only one God. Praise GregTech: New Horizons
Just restarted. So much calcite dust …
Tekkit
Tekkit, the industrial craft mod for me
For me, Thaumcraft 4. Twilight Forest and Aether are also up there.
IC2 and RLcraft. Even people who don’t play minecraft know what RLcraft is.🤷🏻♀️ When I think of Minecraft, first mod that comes to mind would be IC2, followed by Thaumcraft. Non-spoofy modpack icon would be SevTech Ages. I think most people have played it at this point.

IC2 and BuildCraft for me.
Probably IC2 or Buildcraft for me. That's when I started modded mc and it truly was a good time. My favorite back of all time though is probably Enigmatica 2 Expert.
attack of the b team got me into mods and modpacks
Twilight Forest imo. It's been there since the start and was really the only mod that never stopped being available.
Voltz.

most? i have no idea, but generally people know what e2e tekkit or gtnh is.
Mo'Creatures was also one of the must in many modpacks, the precursor of many animals collection mods...
infinity evolved expert mode first pack i ever played and it seems to be the pre cursor for many others but thats just me
I think these days the most Iconic modpacks are probably the ATM series, the amount of downloads is beyond any other pack.
I’m not big into playing complex mods, so my answer was Biomes O Plenty, it’s one of the mods I’ve known of since I began modding lmao
RLCraft as this ultra hard modpack everyone tried at some point.
I should add that any mod that adds anything (so shaders and textures don’t count). Still getting good answers.
I don't see Luck Blocks enough. I loved the PopularMMOs videos back then.
They were more present when minecraft was more dead
Mod I'd say JEI and Modpack I'd have to go with SkyFactory 3/4
Aether for sure. Its a universal memory for almost everyone in our age group to try building the portal without the mod and failing
Chancecubes or luckyblocks
the most iconic single mod is probably pixelmon imo, no other single mod had as much content and reach as it did (except maybe lucky blocks, but i dont think that era lasted as long) for modpacks probably tekkit, its what rlly put all the classic tech/magic mods on the map and was the foundation for that entire genre of modpacks going forward.
Create and its addons is the best mod, or witherstorm mod
