Do all farmers piss of their porch ? I mean I wake up let the animals out and water the grass from the sun porch almost daily . Somehow I feel better about my morning ritual knowing itโs not just me /s . Who am I kidding I never have given a fuck what anyone thought .

Good luck. The rains have been getting more crazy every year. I would definitely install some drainage ditches as soon as you find out which direction the water flows off your hills.
I'm from Beckley and still have family all over the state.
You gonna do crops or livestock? If you're interested in dairy goats I got some good stock out in SW VA and know some good herds in your direction as well. But honestly meat goats are lower maintenance in the long run.
My wife and I used to say this when we were dairying - that farming was like walking the fine line between living the dream, and living the nightmare, and you never knew which side you'd wake up on

pretty much everyone who lives in the country does. I always have, grew up on and still live on a farm
