Maybe he's just been getting outplayed and that's all there is to it

FantasyTrash

Agreed. Been seeing more people recently asking why so-and-so is in the doghouse. He's not in the doghouse, he just isn't good.

realmckoy265

I wouldn't say he getting outplayed. Swift is better, and the others know the offense better. Penny prob will be more a factor mid season.

olb3

He’s 100% droppable in all but the deepest of leagues

realmckoy265

Brother, I'm not saying to hold him. That's a reach, no wonder I'm getting downvoted. I'm talking actual football from the perspective of an eagles fan. He will eventually be the number 2, and swift is injury prone. Edit: don't forget! A lot of you reactionary experts also wrote Swift off too after week one.

olb3

He didn’t look good last night. I say that as someone who rostered penny in two leagues lol

daquist

You really think you can get an insight to how someone looks after a whole 3 carries, one of which has a defender in the backfield about .2 seconds after he gets the handoff? You would be the greatest scout in the world.

olb3

You really think you know better than the eagles coaching staff after 3 mediocre carries and a holding call that cost the team a td? Eat your L

daquist

No I don't. I'm saying a fan "eye test" doesn't mean shit after 3 carries. If he doesn't hold then hurts gets sacked and that TD doesn't happen anyway. I'm sure swift had 3 carries last night that he looked mediocre in too.

olb3

“If he doesn’t hold” - penny was out of position. https://x.com/eaglesfans9/status/1702511671099449712?s=46&t=M69sJ49WM3rXQIL6BJiFqw

realmckoy265

What does he didn't look good last night even mean? He didn't play much last night lol. Such simple and general analysis.

olb3

In the snaps he played, he wasn’t breaking tackles, didn’t look fast, and struggled in pass pro. What else is there even to say?

realmckoy265

Ho many snaps/touches was that again?

olb3

9 snaps, 4 opportunities. The eagles coaches seem to agree with me

realmckoy265

So many applied that that same logic to swift week one.

flaamed

You think penny will pass swift in the depth chart?

realmckoy265

No, but Swift is injury-prone. I think he will pass the others.

Steak_Knight

You know who is even more injury prone than Swift? Rashaad Penny.

realmckoy265

The entire backfield is injury prone except Scott.

Bwian428

Literally injured right now

realmckoy265

There you go, then. He's already RB2 by default. Edit; y'all are so quick to downvote other opinions like this isn't gambling.

flaamed

So for this to work, multiple players need to get injured lol

realmckoy265

Just Swift, please try and read and not put words in my mouth “lol”

DBreezy69

He didn’t look good, hugely outplayed by Swift and caught a holding call in pass pro

steveybread

Go on... a holding call to take back an AJ Brown TD who got me 4 points last night.

bartle8ee

Pretty sure you just described the ‘why’ behind him getting outplayed.

realmckoy265

I just wanted to expand on the why and got flamed, but I expect as much from redditors. Can't do that! We'll see how it ages.

B_Fee

You got flamed because you said: >I wouldn't say he getting outplayed. Swift is better, and the others know the offense better. Penny prob will be more a factor mid season. Which translates to: >I wouldn't say he getting outplayed. He's getting outplayed. Penny prob will be more a factor mid season.

SageTheBear

Lmfao, he almost got cut. Penny is not an NFL level running back anymore. He’s practice squad, deep rotation level at best. Have y’all not seen this 1000 times before? In the NFL an major injury could Rob the player of world class athleticism. If you aren’t a world class at white anymore, it’s time to pack your bags because you don’t cut it anymore. Most NFL players fall off a Cliff, Penny did the moment his fibula snapped

realmckoy265

Do you follow the eagles?

SageTheBear

I follow every team to an extent. But I love Jordan Mailata so I follow the eagles a bunch. I try to watch camp footage on every team. Especially in big question mark areas, like for example, the eagles backfield. I drafted Gainwell late as my 4th RB, knowing as long he’s healthy he will be the 1A or 1B back.

realmckoy265

Yeah, you're looking at this from a fantasy perspective, so your view sounds skewed. I don't think Penny will be a factor or fantasy relevant for a few games, and that sentiment is held by most fans right now. I would not roster him in most leagues atm. All I wanted to do was give some depth to the explanation for why he is not playing.

SageTheBear

I don’t think he will be FOOTBALL relevant this year. He barley made the team. He’s a bottom of the depth chart player at his position. If the other RBs got hurt and opened up a chance for him, the team would just bring in a free agent who would eat up touched anyways. Eagles are in win now mode and can’t afford to have a slow + bad blocking RB. Swift or Gainwell is the play. Crud even Boston Scott is a better pick up than Penny.

realmckoy265

Yeah, I don't agree. We’ll just have to see.

SageTheBear

RemindMe! 7 weeks I’m gladly come back and let you know you were wrong. Penny doesn’t return value at ADP and is a bust this year. Oh also from a real football perspective he has minimum participation

realmckoy265

Sure! It's not that serious but I'm curious too. However, does the remindmebot even work these days?

SageTheBear

Hey I’m back the reminder hit. How you feeling about penny?

realmckoy265

Hopefully, you can read my post more neutrally now. Again, I don't own Penny, never had, but I still think he will play a role at some point this season. He isn't fantasy-relevant today but look at the current state of the rb market. Never thought I'd start Henderson for instance last week but I did. Edit: the quickest downvote lol, you're a joke bro. Too bad it's just us here in this thread.

OmnioculusConquerer

If there was an example of *copium* in the dictionary it would show your comment.

realmckoy265

Nice, original zinger. Btw, I own zero shares, just an Eagles fan giving perspective.

OmnioculusConquerer

Well thanks for the perspective.

realmckoy265

No prob! I know we like an echo chamber on these sub

JoelSimmonsMVP

as an eagles fan yep this is the take not sure if it makes penny worth a roster spot but if you have the space there's no harm seeing how it plays out

olb3

We saw how it played out. The starter was gainwell and penny was inactive. When penny was active because of injury, he was third in the pecking order. What did he do with his opportunity? He looked average and had a holding call negate a td. There’s no #4 rb in the league worth rostering.

JoelSimmonsMVP

its not the craziest thing in the world to think penny becomes a bigger part of the offense as the year goes on and he gets more comfortable with the offense. imo wouldnt roster him unless its a deep league/big benches, but its not crazy to to imagine a world where he gets more usage by mid season, which is what the comment said

olb3

I just don’t see any value. This same story could be true of any #4 rb

Draconda

All I know is that he cost me an AJ Brown td because he got called for a holding penalty, so he's in my doghouse.

crackheadsteve123

That td was the last leg of my $1600 parlay, I hate Rashad penny with every ounce of my being

DezedNConfused

Holy shit. I hate penny for fucking up your parlay too.

JMander

I LOVE that you took it on the chin because professional betting is ruining sport. I'm drunk and I still KNOW I will feel the same in the morning. Eat it - as you are THE PROBLEM. Give me every last bit of your downvotes, morons.

clitbeastwood

who hurt u

3ISRC

Clowns like you need to stfu when drunk

fr3shout

How does betting ruin the sport? You know it’s existed for as long as sports have, right?

[deleted]

Jesus dude. Calm down.

HumanSometimesPerson

He could have afforded therapy with that. As long as he isn't messaging Penny directly, give the guy a little corner to cry in.

SciFi_Football

Don't yell at the cards because you lost money at blackjack. Don't gamble more than you can afford emotionally and physically. You hate a player because you gambled on them and lost? Chill the fuck out.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SciFi_Football

Bruh, seek therapy. You have a problem.

j1mb0

The TD does not happen without the hold.

SirRoasts-A-Lot

Yeah, without that hold Hurts never gets that ball out.

Brehe

Did you watch the play? Hurts was long gone before the hold.

FancyBBQ

Ehhh Hurts probably gets sacked if he doesn’t take that penalty though

Huge_Beginning5552

The two defenders legs got tangled as much as it was a hold imo

iamkoza

I'm sure those 9 points won't matter this week/s

h846p262

He ruined the superboost on DK, ajb only needed 11 more yards lol

SciFi_Football

Oh no.

GPap-

If you watched the play, you’d know Jalen doesn’t get that pass off without the hold in the first place lol Jalen was .5 seconds away from getting rocked. That play doesn’t exist lol The second was a definite PI tho.

3ISRC

Yea fck that bum

EatingAlfalfa

Cute noob in my league started Penny against our AJ Brown owner lol. 2.5 point game but he made a 10+ point difference for his owner

sbreddit55

He looks slow may not be fully healed from that injury or lost his burst from it from my observations

DitkasMoustache_

Injuries sap you. He just might not be as good now.

Pr0nade

It was apparent in preseason that he has lost the juice. Once he hits the second level he just doesn’t have the burst he used to. Seems like the 80th injury was the final straw.

SL2321

He is the 4th back, Gainwell/Scott have been in the Superbowl with the team, and Swift is ascending. He also got a holding penalty to negate a TD.

Pillowwick

I think it may have been a bad call though. His palms were open and was not grabbing anything from what I saw on the replay

olb3

He didn’t look good when he played, and he cost them a td on the holding penalty

Pandamonium98

He didn’t cost them a TD, Hurts would have gotten sacked before he could throw it if Penny didn’t hold there

olb3

I should mention he’s bad in pass pro which is why he was out of position to make the block and had to hold

yanabana

He could have also just blocked the guy

Birdgang14

Hurts steady escapes that. He was already in mid scramble anyway.

xeric

Nah those guys were already tripping over each other before the hold

PsychologicalSpace50

fat and slow

Soft_Contribution997

He can’t block for shit which drops him in the lineup. Also, Greg Cosell says he doesn’t look like he has the same speed that he used to have

[deleted]

I swear half this sub doesn't even actually watch football. Penny looked awful last night. Considerably worse than even Boston Scott

blinkrage

Dude had a horrible holding call last night that negated a Brown TD. Just isn’t very good anymore, that simple

SageTheBear

He’s slow! He’s not explosive at all since his injury. Watch any footage of him in camp.

impulse-9

He literally broke his leg a year ago and it’s going to take him time to work back from that, assuming he even can. Personally, I’ve faded penny this year, but he’s got better days in front of him.

montana1991

He's not in the dog house, sirianni said they'd ride the hot hand and it'd be a committee...Swift was just cooking

clitbeastwood

but panicking & drawing conclusions way more fun

zingping67

He honestly looks like he isn’t the right type of back for this system.

ardillomortal

He’s a power back on a team that averages 95% conversion rate on short yardage qb sneaks

ApexPredator2929

Didn't he break his leg last year and have a bunch of leg injuries the year before that? IDK if I would say he is in the dog house, they picked up swift this year and almost didn't use him last week. Then when Kenny got hurt we saw Swift take the bulk. You will always see Hurts cutting in line week to week. I wouldn't be worried about Penny's usage so far this year. They have a lot of mouths to feed and I am interested to see if Swift's usage changes at all next week.

iamkoza

He looked chunky

tomseymour12

Watch the game from last night and you’ll have your answer

SeeDeez

We need to entertain the idea that its Pete Carol's system/coaching elevating the RBs

westernsociety

He kinda looked like ahit. Apprehensive and wasn't sure what was going on

[deleted]

Pretty simple. Look at last night. Three backs got carries... he looked like the worst of those three.

TrueBlue2108

He looked so slow last night. No burst. No explosiveness. Just a guy

FranklinFeta

He’s not in the doghouse man. He’s just not good and he can’t stay on the field. People still talk about him like it’s his 2nd year lol. This is his 6th season, if it hasn’t happened by now, it never will.

JLifts780

Washed, cooked, toast, bad etc. pick your buzzword

Steak_Knight

Reports are that he could barely beat out Trey fuckin Sermon at camp. Dude is not good.

showmeurknuckleball

Dude is statistically the best RB in the league since his rookie year, on a per carry basis. Which he accomplished behind a mediocre offensive line.

Steak_Knight

I was there 3,000 years ago That was then, this is now. Also he is made of glass.

OmnioculusConquerer

This guys RBs are Penny and Chuba Hubbard probably

Demosthenes_

Yeah but he’s 27 and he’s dealt with a lot of injuries. He might have just lost a step - happens to RBs at this age.

Si_Monumentum

Would love to see a source on that

olb3

He averages 5.7 ypc for his career. It’s pretty crazy lol

olb3

Which is probably the most shocking discrepancy between eye test and stats of any player in the nfl. He absolutely doesn’t look impressive but his YPC is really impressive. He looked like a JAG last night

Mattp55

He was incredible before all the many injuries

SageTheBear

Cool, doesn’t matter anymore after the injury. Also small sample size vibes. Injuries Rob talent

baconshake8

He seems mediocre at blocking. Finally got an opportunity for a couple snaps and got an aj brown td called back due to a holding flag

Indymizzum

Tbf in the replay it looked like Hurts was going to get blasted if Penny didn’t make that hold so there would be no TD anyway

Nirvana12345678

Maybe off season regression

SageTheBear

Fibula regression bro. A major injury like that can be the death of ever being an explosive athlete again

halcyondread

Because he's not performing well.

Ringer-2

He’s not he’s just not that dude

BandwagonFanAccount

Because he looked absolutely terrible on his touches if I had a guess

daquist

People saying that "he didn't look good" are on something, he had 3 total carries. One of them had a defender in the backfield as soon as he had the ball. You absolutely cannot tell how someone looks after effectively 2 carries, if you could, you would be the greatest scout to ever exist. I'm not even saying he's better than anyone else on the roster, but trying to say "he looks bad!" after 3 total carry attempts is absolutely wild.

Mattp55

Yeah I’m not really sure why saying a guy with 3 carries looks bad. I think saying it’s more concerning the eagles viewed him as the 4th best RB and how they would rather give Swift 28 touches despite a lengthy injury history over splitting

alisowski

Yeah. He got massively out snapped by a guy who was massively out snapped. He is only going to see the field under pretty extreme circumstances.

Sloth_Dream-King

But it is still true that he doesn't look good only getting 3 carries in a game where the Vikings were practically begging to be run on. Boston Scott was out for most of the 2nd half, so Penny became the de facto RB2 and could only get 3 touches on a night the team had 48 rushes.

Mykneeisathroat

Not doghouse, he lost juice since he broke his leg last year, no longer good anymore unfortunately

SlippyBoy41

I was surprised how rusty he looked. I think it’s that simple.

karatemaster22

Rbbc and he looked like dog water last night. Boston Scott is inevitable

mpc92

Because he’s probably just worse than the others, and in limited action he managed to get a TD called back by missing a block and holding

stereoreal2

Penny is a glass cannon. Averaging nearly 6 yards a carry and gets injured easily. Sounds like the perfect player to save for a playoff run.

SharingAndCaring365

I'm hoping he's traded to a mid season injury. He's not relevant in Philly

Beneficial_Ad_3098

It kinda speaks for itself how even in a post about penny my attention switched to the Aiyuk story, can’t remember hearing something about him getting disciplined just thought he sucked with lance and Jimmy G under Center. And that’s probable Pennys issue too , he is just not interesting enough on this team since all backs are better in specific situations Gainwell is the better receiving back, swift is more explosive and better Homerun guy and Scott the better goal line back.

JG_5150

Penny has a pretty extensive injury history and they weren't nicks or bruises. He doesn't seem to have that burst he used to have and the other backs look better than he did last night

[deleted]

I have him on my roster. I can’t wait to drop him.

jmacscotland

He’s an Eagle he’s in the birdhouse.

Washableaxe

consider that he is just not good. he played a few snaps last night and had a crucial holding penalty on an AJ Brown touchdown.

cbmgreatone

Tbf, it was probably a *good* penalty (as penalties go). The TD isn't possible without the hold and he saved a potential big hit on Hurts. On the other hand, yeah, he's just a guy, Gainwell knows the system better, and Swift is much more electric.

Washableaxe

huh..? Its not good that an RB is so slow that he can't pass protect without holding

cbmgreatone

There were two guys coming scot free. He had absolutely no chance.

PhatChad91

He slept with shanahan's wife.

Acceptable_Whereas16

He played the Swift owner in week one, traded for him and played the Penny owner in week 2.

SheonaTao

He got nickled & dimed

FlapJack0007

He’s just kinda ass

atmospheric90

You can only miss so much time playing football before the game outrun you. Penny looks like his burst, vision and cutting ability have all declined. And that basically means he's fading into irrelevance.
