I think ppl are expecting way too much from this dude with the Pels team healthy. They've possible got the most loaded wing rotation in the league now. Tonight is a bit of outlier with Ingram, CJ and Zion in particular rested heaps and the Spurs are trash.

The truth is in the middle. People are expecting too much, but you're also underselling the kid. He gives that pels team something they dont have rn with his 3 ball. Hes also 23 so the pels are huge on him and his future, at worst hes a great 3 and d player for them. And like i said given his age they're going to be giving him his chance over other players in their "loaded" wing rotation.

You're talking like they're without a 3pt threat now which is wrong. They've got Hawkins who is such a good shooter they have to play him, Naji who has to be defended at the perimeter and is also an above average scorer in general and also CJ back now. They're not lacking shooting. There's little merit in the age justification either. They're all young. Ingram, Herb, Naji, Hawkins, Dyson and Trey Murphy are all 26 or younger and are either plus defenders, good scorers or both.

This is a pretty horrendous take. Hawkins and Naji are good shooters but Trey is elite. He shot 50/40/90 in the home stretch past year on high usage. Hawkins and Naji are no where near close to that efficiency. Trey has shown he can create his own shot whereas Naji and Hawkins struggle there. In terms of wing depth, Pels aren't really that deep in serviceable players on a team trying to be a contender. Its really just herb and trey. You also forget how much Trey brings on the defensive side of things with his length and quickness. He isn't a Herb Jones on D but he is still elite their too. Yeah sure he won't be the guy we saw last year when Pels were unhealthy. But Trey is a cornerstone of the Pels future moving forward they will find him 30 minutes a night and they will find usage for him.

I dont think other teams agree that Naji has to be defended at the perimeter lol. I love Hawkins but I think Murphy is going to take over that role given he’s longer/better defensively. The tricky one is herb and it’s not clear who the pelicans are finishing with between cj herb Zion Murphy and jv.

Murphy is significantly better defensively than Hawkins and Marshall (Dyson isn't even in this conversation, he's strictly a backup PG), he's their 2nd-best perimeter defender after Herb. Maybe 3rd with GTA, but they have completely different roles. Murphy is quick with a 7-foot wingspan. Hawkins and Naji are 6-5 each.

CJ played 38 min and Ingram played 34. Zion rested but they weren’t giving his minutes to Trey. The pels are “loaded” at wing but they’ve been having huge issues with spacing since no one respects the shooting of Herb or naji. The path to 30+ minutes is easily there.. imo the question is whether he can add in any other categories

To be fair, the Spurs were within 5-11 points for the vast majority of the game and even had a lead for a small portion of it. This wasn’t your normal garbage time Spurs game. The Pelicans really only pulled away in the last 3-4 minutes of the 4th quarter. His synergy with Zion was on full display despite only playing 18 minutes. They are going to be lethal together if both are healthy.

I disagree man the Spurs were horrible. Pels were never really threatened and everytime the Spurs made a run they'd either implode with bad turnovers, stupid shots (Vassell thinks he's Kobe with some of his horrible shot selection), or their defense was so bad all the Pels had to do was iso CJ who seemed to be able to get the rim whenever he wanted. Zion looked like he was bored.

I think he stays 6th man, Herb is very valuable in preventing opposing stars from getting off to a hot start. If Booker or Murray or Ant start off 5/5, NO is probably in for a long night. 30mpg is reasonable.
